"Little" Things

I'm learning more & more to be grateful for the "little" things. I mean, the things we think are little! I think we get to the point where we take so much for granted. We get so caught up in what's going on or what's not going on that we lose focus on what God has given us.

For instance, EVERYDAY I hear the birds chirping & singing when I leave for work. I think of this as them thanking God for the sunrise, for the new day, & for the food they have. They do not hesitate to send up praise. We, most times, get up, rush to work, rush through the day, & forget to thank God for what He's given us. I'm trying to slow down a lot & take in the beautiful day, the sunrise & sunset, the ability to walk, to talk, to see, & more. In this slowing down, I realize that God is too good to me!!! Not because of anything I've done, but because of His mercy & grace!

Although you may not be where you want to be, you're where God wants you to be at this moment in time. Take in the complete season & the changes that come with it, while enjoying some of what's going on. The "little" things can get you through the big problems. I believe that this is what God wants for us to see. I know that during my "big problems season" my only prayer was "God you're in control"; I promised God that I would not lose sight of what He wanted for me to learn & what He wanted for me to focus on! I urge you to do the same.

Count your "little" things & those things you consider to be "small" blessings. These add up to be the bigger things that make life worthwhile!

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (NLT)

Until next time.

For My Singletons: Pt. 6

I realized that I haven't "talked" to my fellow singletons out there in a little bit. I think the most recent conversations I've had with my fellow sista-friends are ones dealing with, "Where are the good men at?" My cousin has even mention conversations with her male co-workers asking, "Where are the good women at?"

I think that both are like trying to find a needle in the haystack. We are all probably going around in circles & they are right in front of us. Do we realize it? Or do you see that good person/friend of yours in a relationship that has them going nowhere & they aren't happy? It's only imaginable to see where they would be if they end up with the person God has called them to be with.

Not that I don't believe good men are out there, I think that I've come across more of the non-good ones. You know, the ones with a bunch of children, or not willing to work, or something along these lines. I think a lot of this deals with your surroundings. Are you participating in the events where people on your level would be? Are you getting outside of the comfort zone of being the "healer" for these relationships you chose? Do you constantly end up in the same type of relationship over & over again? This calls for a self-evaluation.

I don't mind being single because I feel this is the phase where God continues to shape me into a better person for Him, myself, & my future husband. I think that we singletons need to focus on the inner growth & development of ourselves. Those special someones out there are being prepared as well. There's no way that God wants us to end up with less than He intended for us unless we chose otherwise! Always seek God's best and accept it when He brings it your way.

Until next time.

Comfort Zones & Thinking Outside of the Box

We, as humans, tend to stick to our normal everyday routines. We love to do what we've always done & love to get comfortable in our daily on-goings. I've been thinking on this lately, because I know at this time in my life there are still things I want to do. Am I working on these things or am I getting comfortable with where I am? I think I'm a bit in-between.

I know many people who wish they could go back & have a do-over. I know that I'm one of those people!! I just don't want to live life wishing I'd not taken the steps to do the big things on my "to-do" list.

My Pastor has said in his sermons, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always be what you've always been." This is one true statement. What changes are being made outside your norm to get out of that comfort zone & to think outside of the box?! What are you working towards or what is it that you're seeking? Change is needed for change to occur.

Determine what change needs to occur to lead you in that positive direction of thinking outside of the box. What change needs to happen in order for you to get moving & to get going? We cannot stay stagnant in life where God wants us to grow & to go.

Yes, it's time to get out of our comfort zones & to achieve things outside of our norms!!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Last Year At This Time

A close friend & I usually have these deep conversations about the years flying by. We always say, "I wonder where we'll be next year at this time." This makes me reflect on where I was last year at this time. I was working a number of jobs, very tired, and trying to find that place of peace. There was so much I was trying to do & so much I wanted to do, that I didn't have time for anything.

I think we all go through that phase of trying to find ourselves, or at least the happy medium. Trying to make things better, without realizing what we're going through at the time. Although last year at this time was tough for me, I am thankful for it. It was a time in my life that needed to happen.

So back to my friend & I conversing; this year at this time, I am in a much better place. God is providing blessings that I couldn't imagine. There are some that I didn't know that He was working on. He's just so amazing. I'm not just saying this because things are happening now, because things were happening for me last year during my difficult times as well. I just learned during that time, "God remains in control no matter what."

With this being said, where were you last year at this time? Where are you this year? You never know where you'll be next year. Try to be better than the year before. If you aren't where you want to be, there's always time for improvement. If you aren't where you need to be, there's always time for change. If you have no clue, try to be something that's enhancing you, helping others, & displaying God's overall love!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 3/13/09

Scriptures: Romans 3:22-23 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (NIV)

Nugget: Having faith gets us a long way; even mustard seed faith! We know that we fall short of what God expects of us & what He expects us to be, but we are saved through Jesus!

Stay in constant prayer & aim to be what God expects! Strength comes from Him.

Daily Scriptures 3/12/09

Scripture: Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Nugget: The psalmist reflects on his life, being young & now being old. He reminds us that he has not seen God turn away from His children or seen them in want. In all that’s going on today, I feel we need to be reminded of this.

God provides, but we must do our part. Some are without jobs, but not asking for help. Some know people without jobs, but aren’t offering help. Yes, at these times, we need to be focused on God, what He wants from us, and all that He provides.

Quote: “Some people think that all the world should share their misfortunes, though they do not share in the sufferings of anyone else.” –A. Poincelot

Daily Scriptures 3/11/09

Scripture: Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. (NIV)

Nugget: Wow, God is so good!!! Who else can be so faithful, full of promises (& keeps them), & loves us no matter what?!?! We couldn’t ask for anything more. All we have to do is believe in Him, know He’s there & His promises are on time, & follow His commands.

We should think at least once a day: “God is good and I am blessed!”

Quote: “We can't begin to understand what God has planned for us, but we face each day with a smile, and in his name we trust. For in this vast world . . . is Love. It seems sometimes he doesn't care, when things get rough and hard to bear. But with our Faith we can survive; Because in our hearts HE is Alive!!" –Beth Knight

Daily Scriptures 3/10/09

Scripture: Psalm 54:1 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.

Nugget: Sometimes when we experience things, the only way we make it out is by God’s grace & His strength. It’s not by our own might, but by His & what He bestows upon us to go on.
Thank God for that extra something that helps us to survive daily!

A little of this & a little of that...

Not too much to report right now. I did make it to my 2-month anniversary @ my new job!!! Yay! Time is truly passing quickly. I have to admit, I'm getting used to this new time change. My poor body is on it's own right now! LOL. I'm sure we're all feeling the crunch.

An upcoming event for me is a friend's wedding. I'm so excited for him. It's always good to see God bringing people together! Weddings are exciting & a blessing :)

In other news, I'm learning a lot about being humble. God works on certain things in us & we must take heed. I think humbleness is something we assume we have, but over time, we know it's a progression in individual growth. I'm glad for the lessons & I'm all about changing for good.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 3/9/09

Scripture: Isaiah 25:1 O Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God.You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: God has some big plans!! He has so much in store that we cannot see. He’s been working on things since your birth! Some things are still on their way & some things have happened already. Trust in Him, continue to praise Him in spite of your situation & circumstances, & wait for His plans to unfold.

God's Keeping Me

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you are so tired?!?!? I mean, physically & mentally tired. Well, that's how this week has been for me. I've been counting down to Friday since Monday :) I'm by no means complaining, because I am blessed with my job & I like what I do. But, you know that your body will let you know it's time for REST.

In the midst of my tiredness, I had a reflection on how God keeps keeping me. I looked back & remember various times where I knew His hand was at work in my life. I'm not even referring to the times where I didn't acknowledge Him at all!!

God keeps keeping us. In the midst of our tiredness, heartbreaks, joys, and more! We tend to forget or need to be reminded of this. So for those who are worrying & not getting rest, God does not sleep or slumber. For those who are down, find joy in Him! For those who are happy, acknowledge His presence and His blessings. I could go on & on.

I guess I needed this week to remind me that God keeps on keeping on in spite of us. We just have to sit back & take this in!

Thank you God for keep on keeping me & my loved ones.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Lisi P.

Is "The Game" Cancelled??!!!

Okay, so I don't watch that much TV, but one of my favorite shows is "The Game". Rumor has it, that the show will not come back for another season. Thanks CW!

I love football & used to help w/ recruiting for my college. The show tells a lot of what goes on in the football world from various aspects. I know people who don't watch football as much as I do & they love the show.

I'm disappointed about this. Right now, there are really no "ethnic" shows left on the CW as I heard, "I Hate Chris" may not be returning either.

Really, could the channels have stayed "UPN" and "The WB" rather than let go of shows people do watch & look forward to??

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

March is Here Already!!

Okay, it's official, this year is flying by. I don't know what's going on with the days, but they have their own time clock for sure. It's been a busy week.

I did get the chance to see "Madea Goes to Jail". It was a good movie. If you want to laugh, walk away with a lesson or two, and have fun with friends, you should go see it :)

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to my good friend's wedding. It was beautiful. It's good to see the happiness & joy she & her new husband share. I'm glad to have had the chance to experience it.

My new job continues to go well. Learning a lot & am excited about that. I love the challenge & am so blessed that God opened this door for me.

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.
