Daily Scriptures 7/31/09

Scripture: Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whosoever confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Nugget: There is peace and prosperity in humbling yourself and admitting your wrong doing. But note, it's more than just confession - it is confessing and forsaking that leads to mercy.

Daily Scriptures 7/30/09

Scripture: Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. (NIV)

Nugget: Love must be from the heart & actions must demonstrate it. How can you love someone or something & do evil towards it? Those who love, seek to do good & to display the great things that are a part of it (even when parents chastise us for doing wrong, etc., they have our best interest in mind).

Do your actions match your words?

Quote: “An act of love that fails is just as much a part of the divine life as an act of love that succeeds, for love is measured by its own fullness, not by its reception.” –Harold Loukes

People....

People. The many that we cross in our lifetime; those who are suppose to stay & those who are supposed to go. Most of them making some sort of impact on our lives. The funny thing is, we as humans, tend to hang on to the ones who we need to let go of. I think that as I grow in my Christian walk & get a little older, I'm able to differentiate more & more.

The thing about people & living is forgiveness. We all feel that we've been done wrong at some point in time, but forgiveness is difficult regardless. I think of how many times God has forgiven me over & over again, regardless of what I've done (or what I haven't done). I don't know if I can take this same stance with people, as some step in & you forgive & forgive, but when do you not allow yourself to get walked all over? I think that the main thing is, with some people, we have to learn to forgive for ourselves: meaning, you forgive for you in order for you to let go & to move on. The more you hold on to stuff you need to let go of, the more you get weighed down.

As one of my wise mothers states, "People are people." We are a part of this "people" too; we've let others down & hurt some as well. But forgiveness, hmmmm. We seek this from people & they would want the same from us, right?

Live, learn, love. Live each day as if it were your last; Learn from experiences & grow; Love like God loves us. There's something to gather from every experience (at least this is what I think). I'm still working on forgiveness, but I'm a lot further along than I used to be. When it gets difficult to forgive & to let go, I think of God. I think of forgiving & moving on (whether the person is to remain in my life or not). Importantly, forgive and have peace.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 7/29/09

Scripture: Psalm 119:93 I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life. (NLT)

Nugget: Thank God for His commandments! They keep us going on the difficult days & keep us praising on other days. This is why we have to keep them in our remembrance; they help us make it through this thing we call life! We have to work at obeying these commandments though! There’s no limit to what obeying God can do.

Quote: “If you ask why we should obey God, in the last resort the answer is, 'I am.' To know God is to know that our obedience is due to Him.” –Clive Staples Lewis

Daily Scriptures 7/28/09

Scriptures: Titus 2:11-13 11For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. (NLT)

Nugget: As Christians, we live in this world, but don’t have to be of this world. We are examples of God’s love & should demonstrate wisdom, righteousness, and our devotion to God daily, despite of what we see going on around us. We know that our goal is to reach Heaven one day & that our stay on this Earth is temporary.

What are you demonstrating daily?

Rest

For the past few days, I've been off from work. I initially had plans for the weekend that fell through, but I'm understanding a little now of why this happened. The importance of rest: even God said to rest!!!

I'm one who rarely sits down & takes the time to just take in some of the simple things. This weekend I had the chance to do this!! From sitting with my child-cat on the porch to strolling the stores to taking in a good book to working on my writing---my rest was wonderful!!!!

I do think we tend to take for granted how important it is to rest; especially with everything that goes on in our fast-paced society. I'm just so happy to have had these days to myself & to reflect on many things along the way.

So, my friends, don't forget this learned lesson from me: rest.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Praise Song: "Glorious"

Today's Praise Song is Martha Munizzi's "Glorious". It reminds us of why we're here: to give God praise!! That's what we were created for :)

When you come into His presence
Lifting up the name of Jesus
And you hear the music playin'
And you see the people praisin'
Just forget about your worries
Let your troubles fall behind you
Don't you wait another minute
Just get up and on your feet and

Chorus:
Get to dancing Singing jumping leaping
Get to shouting
Make it loud and make it glorious
Start rejoicing praising lifting raising
Get to shouting
Make it loud and make His praise
Glorious glorious

(VAMP)
I was created To make Your praise glorious
I was created To make Your praise glorious glorious
Yes I was yes I was

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/23/09

Scripture: Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (NIV)

Nugget: Don’t underestimate the importance of children in God’s kingdom. Sometimes, I reflect back on when I was younger & how I viewed the world; children see things differently. When they say that God is going to do something, they believe it! They usually aren’t cynical or pessimistic like adults. They have a pure heart.

If we could do this sometimes! Thank God for children; they remind us to try to keep things simple & to trust.

Quote: "Children are a wonderful gift . . . They have an extraordinary capacity to see into the heart of things and to expose sham and humbug for what they are.” –Desmond Tutu

Daily Scriptures 7/22/09

Scripture: Psalm 62:6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

Nugget: God is our foundation: our rock! Standing in Him allows us to be firm in knowing that He has it all under control. This is why we can make it though life’s challenges & battles. Moving & wavering, rather than being firm, allows all other outside forces to step in. Be strong in Him.

Quote: “God, who foresaw your tribulation, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain.” –C.S. Lewis

"Hater" by Maya Angelou

In my search online today for Maya Angelou quotes, I came across many! She's one of the greats! So much knowledge, depth, & talent. I think we take for granted the impact she's made on the literary world, among many others.

I have a lot of friends (including myself) who've dealt with varying people recently; finding out who true friends are to finding out who true friends aren't. So when I came across Maya Angelou's, "Hater", I had to post it.

"Hater/ By Maya Angelou

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.

They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...

That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed...

It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?

You never know what people have gone through to get what they have...

The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story...

If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

We've all got some haters among us! Some people envy you because you can:
a) Have a relationship with God
b) Light up a room when you walk in
c) Start your own business
d) Tell a man / woman to hit the curb (if he / she isn't about the right thing)
e) Raise your children without both parents being in the home Haters can't stand to see you happy.

Haters will never want to see you succeed. Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be on our side.

How do you handle your undercover haters? You can handle these haters by:
1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are *(VERY IMPORTANT!!)

2. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled.

A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.

Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.

3. By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation. Fulfill your dreams!

You only have one life to live...when its your time to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME!

When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me...'

Pass this to all of your family & friends who you know are not hating on you including the person who sent it to you.

If you don't get it back, maybe you called somebody out!

Don't worry about it, it's not your problem, it's theirs.. Just pray for them, that their life can be as fulfilled as yours! Watch out for Haters...BUT most of all don't become a HATER!

Ms. Angelou tells it like it is for sure!! (and so eloquently at that). There are so many truths to her wise words. The thing is, we have to remember our favor comes from God, we have to live the life that He's set before us. He's the one who blesses & continues to bless. We have to acknowledge His favor on our lives; our thanks go to Him, not to those who don't know our story or know our King. Some people look only at the end product & have no clue as to what the struggle was to get there!!!

God is truly good!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 7/21/09

Scriptures: Psalm 120:1-2 1I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. 2Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: Sometimes all we have to do is call on God! How often do we go to others first before we go to Him? No matter the situation; God protects us from those who lie on us, those who deceive us, & more. This is why we don’t have to concern ourselves with revenge/etc. Call on God, pray, believe, & let Him step in & show out!!

Daily Scriptures 7/20/09

Scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-10 8I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. 9It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it.10 God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. (New Century Version)

Nugget: Our salvation is a great gift from God; sometimes we take this for granted & assume it’s because of something so great we’ve done, but it isn’t. God is the reason—He molded us before we were even a thought to our parents; He made us in His image to do His work.

With this great gift, do the work He’s called you to do! Don’t take this lightly; continue to strive for the plans He has for you.

Peace & Positivity

So today I reflected on peace & positivity; how these 2 words appear to correlate & always come together in my life. I'm learning more & more about the 2 in my life & am loving it. As time goes on, God continues to show me more & more of the peace I can obtain through Him & from Him, as well as in the people He's brought into my life. As He brings, He also removes & I am not complaining about that!!!

I'm enjoying more & more of the little things that are a part of my life. Now, these things at first may appear to be little, but they are becoming the big things that I appreciate more & more: getting together with friends for a Girls Day, spending time w/ my niece & nephews (they love their Auntie & I love them too), having my cat-child follow me around, finishing another sentence in my book although the Writer's Block is heavy, conversations with friends to share in their exciting news, picking out a new picture & comforter set for my place, just walking into a place I can call my own, & getting up everyday clothed in my right mind with the ability to use all of my being.

Also on this list is talking to my friends & family in other states & other places throughout my state; love those long distance phone calls where you can relate to one another (thank goodness for weekend minutes & mobile-to-mobile!) & talk about things. Knowing that no matter how far, they are still close. The list of "little big things" can go on & on.

I'm learning to take the peace & positivity & to incorporate them into my life: daily. Because they are definitely needed: each day has its challenges & we must be prepared to face them. Search & find the peace & positivity in your day!!! They are there.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Praise Song: "So You Would Know"

I had to search for this one as I didn't know who sings the song. Sis. Kathy @ church sings a lovely & wonderful version of this song that will bring tears to your eyes! The version I found is with the Radio Angels featuring Angela Spivey, who really gets into the song!! I love this song.

how many ways, must my love for you I show,
how many times, must I rescue you from trouble, so you would know,
just how much I love you(repeat)

How many days, must I be a fence all around you and how many nights, must I wipe your tears away, and how many storms, must I bring you safely through, so you would know, just how much I love you

Daily Scriptures 7/17/09

Scriptures: Romans 1:16-17 16For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. 17This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” (New Living Translation)

Nugget: We cannot be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He’s the one who saved us & died for our sins. We must continually be at work & share God’s Word with others, encouraging them along their Christian walks.

God is always working on us, and finishes what He starts; we have to do our part too: be faithful in our walks, share what He has done for us & what He’s doing in us, & not be ashamed.

Quote: “That is why He warned people to “count the cost” before becoming Christians. “Make no mistake,” He says, “if you let me, I will make you perfect. The moment you put yourself in my hands, that is what you are in for. Nothing less, or other than that.” –C.S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 7/14/09

Scripture: Ephesians 6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: We have so much power in prayer! I think we truly fail to use it to its full potential. We tend to either worry & not pray, or pray & then worry, but we must be persistent in our prayers & hold steadfast. That’s why it’s so important to be surrounded by other believers who can intercede on your behalf when you feel as if you cannot do it yourself.

Utilize your power of prayer!!

Quote: “Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan”. -John Bunyan

Daily Scriptures 7/13/09

Scripture: Psalm 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Nugget: God is in the blessing business! He prepares everything for us, even in front of our enemies. He does this in spite of ourselves & all that we do (& at times, in spite of the things that we don’t do!). And when God blesses, He will allow our cups to run over (He blesses us with our needs & from time to time, our wants).

When your cup runneth over, be prepared to accept God’s blessings; He in turn, blesses others through you! There’s nothing like overflow!

Quote: “However many blessings we expect from God, His infinite liberality will always exceed our wishes and our thoughts” –John Calvin

Praise Song: "Let Go"

The Praise Song for this week is "Let Go" by Dewayne Woods. This song reminds us that God is in control no matter what; we must turn things completely over to Him. I hope this is a blessing to you!!!

I couldn't seem to fall asleep
There was so much on my mind
Searching for that peace
But the peace I could not find
So then I kneeled down to pray
Praying help me please
Then He said you don't have to cry
Cause I'll supply all your needs

As soon as I stop worrying (soon as I stopped worrying)
Worrying how the story ends (When I let go)
I let go (And I let) and I let God (let Him have)
(Let Him Have) Let God have His way
(That's when things) That's when things start happening
I'll stop looking at back then
I let go and I'll let God have His way

There so much going on
Sometimes I can't find my way
And often times I struggle
Struggle from day to day
I have to realize that it's not my battle
It's not my battle to fight

I have to know if I to put it in His hands
That everything will be alright

(Back to Chorus)
Let go

Let God x5
My brother let go

And let God
My sister you can't handle it
Let God

Oh let go
And let God [x3]
Let go

Let God [x6]

Until next time.

Blessings,

Update...

6 months ago yesterday, I started my "new" job. Time definitely does fly! I can say, I've made a lot of progress & see the growth I've had during this time. It's such a good feeling for me :) I do like what I do, so this is a true blessing considering a lot of people cannot say that. I recently returned from a conference that helped to tie a few things together.

Also, during the last 6 months, I've had some major changes occur: moving, evaluations of friendships, and more. I think that the evaluation of friendships has been such a eye opener for me. There have been so many people who've shown me their "true selves" (as Maya Angelou would say). I'm talking about those who will call only when they need a "favor" to those who visited my home & would not get out the car (yes, I'm serious). People will show you who they truly are, if you take a closer look! And the "looks" I've come across are true jealousy & being envious. Which is truly sad considering most of the people know the struggle I've been through. I've seen the heart of them & glad that God has revealed this to me (& for some, it was just confirmation as to what I was praying on).

With this being said, life is too short to hang on to those who do not mean you any good. It's too short to waste any time on those who aren't contributing to your growth (especially your growth in the Lord). Do the evaluations if need be; we are more than 1/2 way through the year & time is not slowing down!!! With the time I have, I chose to be happy & joyful with all that God has given me (from life to friends to His Word alone!!)

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Look to God

One of the best gifts I've ever received is the T.D. Jakes Woman Thou Art Loosed! Bible. It was a gift to me at a time in my life when I really needed it (not that I didn't have other Bibles, but this one has a lot of additions such as "Gospel Pearls" and other encouraging sections). In reading today, I came across this:

Look to God
(Philippians 4:19-20)

Look to God when there are needs in your life. He satisfies. Like calm sheep grazing in the afternoon sun, you will find fulfillment for your soul and contentment within yourself.

There is a difference between wants and needs. There are many things that you will want and some that you will intensely desire. That doesn't necessarily mean you will have them. There will be many desires that are born in your heart through other sources. Some will come from your peers and friends. Some will come from your age and stage in life. There will be times when things as inanimate as a television set will influence what you feel you need. Amidst all of these influences, God will not grant to you everything you suggest. A good father doesn't give in to every whim. He decides carefully what is best.

It is going to require faith, but you must with maturity begin to conclude that if God doesn't grant it, you don't need it. You may want it; but if it were a need, He would have supplied it. He promised. You don't have to beg or plead. You don't have to manipulate or pout. If God has promised, His Word is sure. That means that when there is a discrepancy between what you think you need and what is being supplied, God cannot lie. If it were for your good--if it were a need, emotionally, physically, or spiritually--He would supply it.

Remember that you are to prosper and be in good health as your soul prospers (see 3 John 2). If your soul is not prospering, that is the primary need. Nothing should be of greater concern than that. Every other supply is going to flow "as your soul prospers." That is why you must be sure that you maintain a healthy heart for God and a sound mind. For what would it profit you to gain this whole world and lose your soul (see Mark 8:36)?

Don't lose your soul (mind, memory, and affections) over things. Don't stress out or burn out, become jealous or enter into warfare over things. They will not profit if your values are misconstrued. Keep your head in the right place. Seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things, whatever they are, shall be added unto you (see Matthew 6:33). Why? Because they will come to you as your soul prospers.

If you are reading this and your life has been ransacked, the very first thing you should do is make sure you are in a right relationship with Jesus Christ. It does matter. When you are in right standing with Him, you have a guarantee that if something is a need, He will supply it. It may not come when you think you should have it, but it will come when you need it most.

-T.D. Jakes

This is such an encouraging word. I pray that it uplifts you in some way! There's nothing like God's word to put things in prospective. Look to God.....

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

For My Singletons: Pt. 8

I haved written to my fellow singletons in a while. Just some thoughts. Enjoy the season you're in right now because when the next one starts, the other ends. It's not that one is better or worse than the other--it's just time for the next phase to begin.

So, try not to put off for tomorrow what you can do today: travel, enjoy the company of friends, grow, & learn more about yourself. I've seen so many people who state that their mate "completes" them, but aren't you supposed to already be complete when you meet? Maybe it should be more that they are "complements" to each other? I don't know.

I think that learning to be by oneself in the mean time is a difficult thing; it's when God does some molding on you in preparation for the next phase. It's definitely a time for learning & growing, but it stretches you!! LOL

As God is preparing you, He is preparing the one for you!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/3/09

Scripture: Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Nugget: It is not being mean to correct/discipline your child; it is actually showing them love. In fact, not just children - but anyone; if you love someome, you will correct them if you think they are going off-track. Obviously, your manner of correction (tone, style, etc) should be appropriate so your message gets heard. "A child left to himself....". No child should be allowed to define their own rules.....they should be guided.

Chi-Town 2009!!

I returned yesterday from my first work conference & from my first trip to Chicago! The conference was informative, Chi-Town was great, & the weather was on-point!! I tell you, it was great getting away from the 90+ we've been having here!!!!

Not much to report from Day 1: settling in at the hotel, recovering from the flight, & getting used to the time change. But the hotel I stayed at was really nice; there was one glitch in the communication between the hotel & my job regarding payment, it was eventually settled though. However, the first person to help me at the hotel was not too impressive. BUT, the other employees made up for it.

Also, during Day 1, I realized I left the other 1/2 of my phone charger at home (the part that plugged into the wall!!), so I spent a lot of time in the Business Center charging the phone on the computer. I swear if I had my last phone, this would not have happened!! hahaha :) But it worked itself out. (Thank goodness for the person over registration who also let me use her computer to charge my phone during the conference!)

Day 2 was the start of the conference. I met a lot of people in my field from all over the U.S. It was good to see others who do the same thing I do & who are also getting started in the field. Later, my newfound friends & I attended the "Taste of Chicago" & also walked along the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. I had a great time at the "Taste" & sampled a lot of good food. In addition, the eye candy was good!!! (Cute cops in Chi-town!!)

By Day 3, the conference was more than 1/2 done & we realized more & more about our jobs. Later, my new friend, Amie & I, decided to venture out to the Cheesecake Factory on Michigan Street (which is full of the best stores & sites!!). Afterwards, our true adventure began in trying to find The Oprah Show. We didn't find Harpo Studios, but did find the Show!!! It was blocks & blocks of walking (& getting a little lost), but we found it. We made it to the building, but was told by the very polite security guard that it was not open (of course, it was late), but I realized this may be the closest I would get to Oprah!! LOL

The last day was 1/2 day for the conference & the weather changed. It was the first day that it rained & got really cool. I was glad that this happened on the last day, but felt bad for those who had to deal with the weather after my departure :)

I am definitely ready for another trip to Chicago (not during the winter though!!). This is a trip I could & would do again.

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 7/2/09

Scripture: Proverbs 29:12 If a ruler hearkens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

Nugget: Your followers are a reflection of the values you espouse. Culture change does not start from the bottom, it starts from the top. It starts by the leaders defining what behaviors get rewarded, and what behaviors don't. Think on it.

Daily Scriptures 7/1/09

Scripture: Proverbs 23:17: Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord all the day long. (Amplified Bible)

Nugget: Envy not sinners; in fact, envy no one - as nothing, absolutely nothing, is ever as it first appears. Reflect on that and you will realize it's true. The point being, don't get so caught up wanting what the next person seems to have - just ask God for what you want. Cause perharps once you get into the details of what they have, you just might not want it anymore :-)
