Daily Scriptures 9/30/09

Scriptures: Philippians 1:9-10 9I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. (NLT)

Nugget: Each day, we should try to be better than we were the day before. After all, it’s another day to get it right! We should be growing in knowledge, understanding, and as a person, continuing to prepare ourselves for Christ’s return.

What would you do differently today than yesterday, if you could do it all over again? Well, here’s your chance, use it wisely!

Quote: “The knowledge of Christ's love for us should cause us to love Him in such a way that it is demonstrated in our attitude, conduct, and commitment to serve God. Spiritual maturity is marked by spiritual knowledge being put into action.” –Edward Bedore

Daily Scriptures 9/29/09

Scripture: Job 23:10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. (NIV)

Nugget: Job faced the ultimate test and he passed. Job didn’t lose sight of God, knowing that God had his back & then some!! Sometimes, we go through similar tests, but don’t have the same outlook. We get weak, worried, scared, & more. But God knows what the tests & trials of our lives are to bring out of us. He sees beyond the moment we’re in to the future He has laid out for us.

We must remember that at all times, God loves us. This love is sometimes demonstrated in the tough love shown to us by our parents. Just as with parents & tough love, God’s tough love brings out the destiny He has planned for us!

Quote: “You may not know why you have to face despair, but trust God’s love.” –T.D. Jakes

Daily Scriptures 9/28/09

Scripture: 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Nugget: There’s nothing like a parent seeing their children walking in the truth that was taught to them. When children take the lessons their parents taught them and utilize these lessons in their lives, it has to make any parent proud. When these lessons and knowledge include God, they’re things a child never forgets: to walk in truth!!

Parents, continue to encourage your children, teaching them life lessons. Children, listen to your parents, even when you think what they are saying doesn’t “sound right”, it could be right later on!!

Quote: “It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.” -Joyce Maynard

Praise Song: "Praise Him in Advance"

There's nothing like praising God!! Despite your circumstances, good or bad, He must be uplifted in praise. With all that God bestows upon us, He deserves it. Don't always take the tough times as completely bad times, blessings are on the horizon!! This week's praise song is Marvin Sapp's, "Praise Him in Advance".

I’ve had my share of ups and downs, times when there was no one around, God came and spoke these words to me, praise will confuse the enemy. (repeat 2x)

I started singing, I started clapping, I started dancing, people were laughing, they knew my problems, they knew my pain, but I knew God would take them away.

I have my share of ups and downs, times when there was no one around, God came and spoke these words to me, praise will confuse the enemy. (repeat 2x)

I started singing, I started clapping, I started dancing, people were laughing, they knew my problems, they knew my pain, but I knew God would take them away.

That’s why I praise him with my hands, that’s why I praise him with a dance, He’s given me a second chance, come on lets praise him in advance.

That’s why I praise him with a song, when things are right and when they’re wrong, He’s given me a second chance, come on lets praise Him in advance.

Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him in advance

Professor!!

God is good! I've been blessed with the opportunity to teach online. This is my first try at it & I'm excited. Not sure if an online instructor is a Professor, but I'll go with it for now :)

I know it will be a challenge, but I'm up to it. I want to do a great job & encourage students to do well. I know what it's like to be in class, to work hard, & to know in the end that it was all worth it. I encourage anyone who is seeking to further his/her education, to do so. Don't let anything hold you back!

I remember going to graduation ceremonies where grandmothers were graduating with their grandchildren!! How amazing. There's no time limit nor age limit on achieving goals. It's never too late to get started either.

Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today!!

Praying for my first semester to go well.

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 9/25/09

Scripture: Genesis 48:11 And Israel (Jacob) said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.

Nugget: Jacob was tripped with just seeing Joseph - the son he assumed was dead and in his wildest dreams never thought he would see again. But God showed him not just Joseph, but Joseph's kids. That is just God for you - able to do above and beyond our expectations. Lord help us be patient enough to see You perform.

Daily Scriptures 9/24/09

Scriptures: Genesis 45:4 & 8: 4And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. 8So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

Nugget: Joseph forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery. He saw God's purpose in their iniquity. He didn't deny the evil they had done, but he said despite this evil, don't worry, because God had a bigger plan. Amazing. It's not easy to not live in the past; to not try to understand, to reconcile why the heck your brothers did that, even when you know the outcome.

There is just something about human nature that seeks to understand. But it's better to have grace like Joseph to see God's hand and purpose even in the evil that was done to you, and write-off the evil. Easier said than done; but absolutely key for us to do in this journey called life.

Daily Scriptures 9/23/09

Scripture: Genesis 43:14 And may God Almighty grant you mercy before the man so that he will let your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved." (NIV)

Nugget: At times, we all must get to the point of "If I perish, I perish" in order to move forward. Jacob was in a situation where he had lost Joseph, his beloved son, and now was being asked to send Benjamin (his other beloved son) to Egypt with the possibility that he might not return. However, they were in the midst of a famine, and the only way to get food was to send Benjamin on this trip. That's life at times. We get to a crossroad where all the options look crappy, but look again - they say opportunity usually lies at the curve of crisis, and at times it just requires having some faith. God help our faith.

Daily Scriptures 9/22/09

Scripture: Romans 15:7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. (NLT)

Nugget: Accept one another—why is it so hard for us to do this? When there are differences, as well as similarities, between people, we still don’t get it. Accept one another, just as Christ accepted each of us & our differences. That’s some deep love!! If only we can follow His example & stop all of the nonsense in between, how different things could be!!

What could you change about yourself in order to be more accepting of others?

Fall is Here!!!

Today is the first day of Autumn/Fall. According the the calendar, it's here!!!!! Yay, my favorite time of the year. I am waiting for it to get cool, but it may take a while here in the Sunshine State. Now, I'm not referring to cold, but cool!! LOL

When this time of the year arrives, I wish I was up North to see the leaves changing colors & the changing of the seasons! I just think it's amazing to see God working & the beauty that goes with the seasons.

Happy first day of Autumn!!!
Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/21/09

Scriptures: Psalm 29:3-4 3The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea. 4The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. (NLT)

Nugget: God’s voice!! What a powerful thing. This is why it’s so important for us to seek Him in all we do. I think that at times, God speaks directly to us, & at other times, He sends confirmation through others. It’s up to us to pay attention & to seek discernment (because everyone who speaks into your life isn’t speaking on behalf of God).

Look for God’s continuous presence in your life: He’s there speaking to you.

The Latest.....

So last week was slow & tiring!! What a long week. I cannot complain though; everyday is a gift & a blessing.

I've been doing more volunteering in the past month: with church & with other things. All has been coming together nicely, but again, my body is letting me know about the importance of rest. So today consisted of church (which was amazing) & watching some football!!! Church was great; the praise & worship can always lift any spirit. I know that I am truly blessed to have found my church home!

As for football, glad that football season is here, both for the NFL & college. Me being an alumni of my university, am so glad that we won yesterday! Nothing like a win to get the season going. As for the NFL, I've had one or two favorite teams, so we'll see how this season goes. I do miss Tony Dungy as a coach; what a faithful man of God. He always speaks with knowledge & faith. I think that I'm going to have to read his book for sure.

Work is going well. I cannot believe that it's been 8 1/2 months for me on my job. Time sure flies. What a difference time makes :) Doing a lot better with things & continuing to learn. I really like what I do.

I'm continuing to work on my writing; it's been difficult to fit everything in, but I must continue to do what I love.

I hope that the weeks & days have been treating you all well. Keep the faith & remember, each day is a gift no matter what's going on!!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Praise Song: "Lift Him Up"

Today's Praise Song is Yolanda Adams' "Lift Him Up" featuring Donnie McClurkin and Mary Mary. This one is from her "Day by Day" CD. Love it!!!!

Oh Lord, Oh Lord we lift you ooh we lift you up yeah yeah yeah

[Verse 1:]
Raise my voice in testimony
'cause he's more than a friend to me
Gave my heart 'cause I believe he's the almighty
I can look at my life and see all the things that
He's done to set me free protecting me from harm
Raise my hands to show how I feel
His presence is oh so real
Till he's guiding me I'll be still
'cause I'd be lost without him
My heart and soul I dedicate and to show I appreciate his love
I'll give him praise

[Chorus:]
Lift Him up
Each and everyday we celebrate our faith
(Lift Him Up)
In a song of praise thanking him for everything (Lift Him up)
Devotion I express because I know I'm blessed (Lift Him up)
Praise Him with every breath
Glorify His name, Lift Him up

[Verse 2:]
Use the temple He gave us
Do a joyful dance of worship
'cause His mercy is so precious and new every morning
Always let Him know that we're grateful for another chance to say thank you
'Round the world sing it louder, for our heavenly father
To his almighty power
Let's glorify him, magnify him

[Repeat Chorus 2x]

You created the earth and the heavens above
And for our salvation you gave your own son
So we humble ourselves to your infinite power
Your love is greater than mine
(Your grace) and your grace is amazing
And through us we lift your holy name

[Repeat Chorus 2x]

My you be uplifted today!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 9/18/09

Scriptures: Proverbs 9:7-8: Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt. So don't bother correcting mockers, they will only hate you. But correct the wise and they will love you. (NLT)

Nugget: Everyone does not need or deserve your feedback. You must be able to discern fertile soil and then sow into that soil constructive feedback. Giving rebuke/feedback to mockers could be damaging - it's not worth your while.

Daily Scriptures 9/17/09

Scripture: Proverbs 9:10: Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom, knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. (NLT)

Nugget: We all want to have 'good judgment'; we all crave the ability to easily make good decisions. Not to spend weeks and months agonizing over what is the right choice, but to make instant choices, to have great discernment - whether it be regarding an investment, a relationship, a career move, assessment of someone, etc.

But the answer to good judgment is embarrassingly simple. It doesn't require 40 day fasts, it doesn't require praying nonstop for hours; the Bible says 'knowledge' of the Holy One automatically results in good judgment. C'est fini. You want good judgment - you must be willing to pay the price to know God's word. As you spend time in God's word, and subconsciously over time, it becomes part of your operating fabric. However, note that the basis, the foundation for this good judgment is wisdom - which you get by having a fear of the Lord.

Daily Scriptures 9/16/09

Scripture: Proverbs 23:22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don't despise your mother when she is old. (NIV)

Nugget: At times growing up, we feel our parents just don't get it. They have no clue what we are going through, times have changed, we are different/unique, and the story goes on. But as we grow older, we realize that they actually do know quite a bit. It's probably a combination of age and self awareness that brings us to this point. Either way, whichever point you may be in - realize that most parents truly look out for your best interest (despite the somewhat annoying delivery method - lol), and are giving you sound judgment based on experience. At the end of the day, you alone must make your choices and be accountable for them, but do listen to the advice of your parents and let it hold weight in your decision process.

Daily Scriptures 9/15/09

Scripture: Psalm 28:6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. (NIV)

Nugget: Thank God for hearing us when we call out to Him!! It could be in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning; God is always there. Sometimes, we’ll go to everyone else before we go to God, but God is always on-call. Seek Him in everything & He’ll answer.

Daily Scriptures 9/14/09

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 1:11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Nugget: Are you living your life chasing milestones and markers that you really don't care about but somehow feel others do? If so, be released today - "there is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after". By all means chase those milestones if they mean something to you; if you get some joy or satisfaction from it; but if you don't - please stop chasing them. You can't afford to spend the currency of your life (time) chasing things you don't care about, but you think others do, when they don't. God help us........God free us!

Next Movie: "I Can Do Bad All By Myself"

My friends & I went out for Girls Day & saw Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself". What a good movie!! I laughed & cried too!! The movie has a great cast: Taraji P. Henson, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Marvin Winans, Adam Rodriguez, & Tyler Perry. The music was awesome in the movie as well.

As always, you will walk away with a message from the movie. That's what I like about Mr. Perry's movies: the messages that you get from them.

Ms. Henson is officially on my list of Favorite Actresses!!

Praise Song: "Lord You Are Good"

I wasn't able to post a praise song last week due to "technical difficulties"! The construction people in my area popped our phone line, which in turn stopped the Internet.

Israel and New Breed's "Lord You Are Good" is the praise song for last week. I love this song :)

Enjoy!!!

Lord You are Good
And your mercy endureth forever
Lord You are good
And your mercy endureth forever
(Repeat 3xs)

From every nation and every tongue
From generation to generationWe worship you
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
We worship you for who you are.
We worship you
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
We worship you for who you are
And You are Good.

You are good all the time
and all the time, You are good.
(Repeats)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/11/09

Scripture: Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Nugget: The virtuous woman's husband is "known in the gates"; he "sitteth" among the elders. Powerful. And yes, all the sisters said a big Amen. Lol!. On a more serious note, deep calleth unto deep. You can't expect to be with a virtuous woman, if you are not willing/able to carry your own weight plus lift her up: v28: "her children arise up, and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her. The virtuous woman's husband takes joy in her success.

Happy Anniversary!!!!

One year ago today I began Lisi's Place blog. Time passes so quickly!!! I thank the friends & family who've encouraged me in this process. I am so happy to have started the blog, sharing experiences as well as learning along the way.

I am grateful for those who stop by, follow, & leave comments :) I've met so many new people on here, who I never would've met otherwise. God has a way of leading like-minded people to us, we just have to pay attention!!

I've learned so much during this year & so many things have happened. I take the good with the bad & pray to learn from it all. I hope that this blog has helped you, encouraged you, & allowed you to grow in some way.

May God continue to bless this journey He's put me on :) I'm doing my best to keep up with Him & the direction He leads me in!

Keep reading, keep writing, & be encouraged. We have another year ahead of us!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/10/09

Scriptures: Proverbs 31:11-14 11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Nugget: Some indicators of a virtuous woman: (i) You can safely trust her

(ii) You believe she will do you good always (not some days, not when she is happy, not when things are good - but always; all the days of her life)

(iii) She is productive. Please note, not that she has a career; or that she works outside the home. Productive. Could be that but not necessarily. Self-motivated (seeketh wool and flax; worketh willingly).

Other qualities include: kindness; wisdom; heart for the needy; great dresser and takes good care of her body (and all the men said - amen!). A lot more qualities described in Proverbs 31. Worth a read and serious reflection.

Daily Scriptures 9/9/09

Scripture: Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

Nugget: Everyone is looking for a virtuous woman (or man).....but the Bible already said "who can find one"? It's not that easy people! Her price is far above rubies. How many of us own rubies? Again gives a sense that it's not that common. So when sense your self getting frustrated that you don't seem to run into them by the dozen, remember they are not that common. But the Bible says "riches and wealth is from fathers, but a good wife is an inheritance from God". Only God can lead you to that virtuous woman or man you are seeking.

For My Singletons: Pt. 10

Okay Singletons, I have a story for you. I was invited to a get-together during the Labor Day weekend & was put on the spotlight. When I say "spotlight", I really mean it!

At this particular get-together, I was part of a set-up that I knew nothing about. Meaning, walking into this blind as a bat. A friend wanted me & this young man to meet, but we had no idea that this was part of the get-together. Needless to say, I was at a loss for words (which is very rare for me!). The evening went on with hints & so-forth about "us" & what we thought of each other. Not to mention the various questions that were thrown at him regarding his life & background. I didn't get a chance to speak to him during the whole evening; everyone was looking & staring, trying to figure out what I "thought". AND when it was time to go, the hostess states, "Oh, I didn't get the chance to formally introduce you two." LOL. Wow.

Most of my friends know me well enough to know that I don't like being set-up. Especially when it's something like the situation I experienced over the weekend. It would've been easier to have a get-together & let everyone enjoy themselves & go with the flow. I know everyone meant well, but I think some should take into consideration what it's like to be in the spotlight & be the single one at that! As I definitely did not intend to go into this one expecting this scenario.

Okay matchmakers, remember this story when you do your planning! Think of how you would feel in the other person's shoes. There are many possible outcomes to this one, but no one wants to go into a situation blind with 20 questions going on along with "all eyes on me." Plus, it maybe deemed desparate (which I'm not). On another note, the young man seemed really nice & would probably be a friend. There's a silver lining somewhere in this & I will always have a story to reflect on!! LOL.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Gettin' on the Ball

Wow, time waits for no one. It's September already. This year continues to fly by. I didn't really make resolutions at the beginning of this year, but there are many things I've been praying on & things I've set out to accomplish this year. With only 4 months left in this year, I have to get on the ball!! Not that I'm going to try to squeeze it all into this time frame, but to work towards it is my goal.

Not that I haven't accomplished a lot so far, I just don't want to start pushing more things to the back burner. Before I know it, it'll be "Happy New Year" time again :) There's so much more I want to do with my writing; so this Labor Day weekend will be used wisely.

There are so many things that seem to supersede our time & days. I had my Godmother remind me that although there's a lot going on, I must make time for the gifts that God has given me. We all have gifts that He has given us, but are we sowing the seeds to allow these gifts to mature & to grow? Or do other things continue to get in the way? We must invest some time in what God has entrusted us with; 30 minutes a day, 15 minutes---starting somewhere is the key.

Continue to work on your dreams & your goals. Don't let things get to a standstill. It's never too late to get started! Let's get on the ball!!!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 9/3/09

Scripture: Psalm 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Nugget: We all have the strength that God has given us to make it! Some of us have yet to tap into this strength. We let circumstances, people, & things get us down. This is not how God designed things to be!! Our strength is there, we must utilize it & allow God to perfect our ways in the process.

Daily Scriptures 9/2/09

Scripture: Isaiah 43:25: “I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again. (NLT)

Nugget: God is a forgiving God! The thing about His forgiveness, He wipes our slates clean. Time after time, He gives us chances. We need to make the most of the opportunities God presents to us. We should try to be better & to do better; use these opportunities to grow.

If we could only follow God’s example with forgiving others, imagine how that would be!

Quote: "God is the original, master forgiver. Each time we grope our reluctant way through the minor miracle of forgiving, we are imitating his style. I am not at all sure that any of us would have had imagination enough to see the possibilities in this way to heal the wrongs of this life had He not done it first.” –Lewis B. Smedes

Daily Scriptures 9/1/09

Scripture: Isaiah 61:7 Instead of being ashamed, my people will receive twice as much wealth. Instead of being disgraced, they will be happy because of what they receive. They will receive a double share of the land, so their happiness will continue forever. (New Century Version)

Nugget: God’s people are abundantly blessed! This scripture mentions a double blessing. No matter what you’re going through, or what things look like, God has a way of blessing you in spite of your situation.

In speaking with a friend yesterday, we were discussing life & all that God’s done for us. If He does nothing else, He’s already done enough. Count all blessings, because God doesn’t do anything halfway! There are double blessings all around us! And He’s not done yet!

Quote: “Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.” –W.T. Purkiser
