Daily Scriptures 1/29/10

Scripture: I Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy (NIV)

Nugget: Though we don’t see Jesus, we know that He’s here & our love for Him should be evident! Our joy comes from Him & knowing all He’s done for us. May we express this joy daily, through our actions & attitudes. There’s nothing like having the joy of the Lord within you!

Daily Scriptures 1/28/10

Scripture: Genesis 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Nugget: God made man in His image to do the things on earth that He called man to do; however, it got to the point where man eventually showed so much wickedness that it grieved God’s heart. Yes, God does grieve!

It’s amazing the things we put on God day after day, expecting forgiveness (which He does give), but it appears that we don’t think of God’s reaction to what we do. We should aim daily, to be more & more like the people God intended and created for us to be.

Quote: “In God's eyes, love is never absent. In God's heart, forgiveness is never impossible. In God's embrace, no one is ever alone or forgotten.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 1/26/10

Scripture: James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (NIV)

Nugget: Humble means, “not proud or haughty: not arrogant or assertive” (Webster’s Dictionary). In order to humble ourselves, this is the attitude we must have, removing arrogance and pride.

To humble ourselves before God takes work for many of us; because many think that it’s “all about them”. If this were the case, what do they need God for? Continue to work on humbleness, allowing God to step in. A humble spirit goes a long way & when God lifts you up, there’s nothing like it.

Quote: “Jesus is the God whom we can approach without pride and before whom we can humble ourselves without despair.” –Blaise Pascal

Daily Scriptures 1/25/10

Scriptures: Genesis 3:1,4-5 1Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 4"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (NIV)

Nugget: Satan's primary job is to make you doubt what God has said; his favorite line must be "did God really say?" Or "Did God really mean...?” Once he has gotten you to start "re-thinking" what God said, his next move is to make the sin look more exciting than it really is - basically get you to sin to obtain what God has already freely given you. He told Eve that she will be like God - but God already created man in "His image". God help us to resist the devil, by refusing to entertain doubt regarding what God has told us.

Praise Song: "Don't Do It Without Me"

This week's Praise Song is Bishop Paul S. Morton's "Don't Do It Without Me".  What a powerful song & a powerful word.  Bishop Morton lost his church in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina & has faced many other difficulties.  This song is definitely a testimony!

The song reminds me that God is in the blessing business, no matter our situations!  We have to expect the blessings & know that He is working on our behalf!

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Next Movie: "The Book of Eli"

I finally went to see "The Book of Eli" starring Denzel Washington.  What a good movie.  There are so many messages in the movie & the discussions I've had with my friends since seeing it have been pretty interesting.  For those interested in seeing it, the movie trailer is below.  FYI, the movie has an R rating.

If you see it, you have to post what you thought about it :)

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 1/22/10

Scripture: Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Nugget: Make sure the person you marry is someone you can be "naked", transparent with....bare, revealed, exposed; vulnerable; someone that you can be "all of you" (and not just a part of you) with and not ashamed.

Quote: "Distrust destroys passion." - Mike Murdock

Daily Scriptures 1/21/10

Scriptures: Genesis 2:21-22 21So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (NIV)

Nugget: To birth what God has in store, you must "sleep" - totally rest in Him. God brings the woman to the man; contrary to the expectation that a man must "seek" out his wife and "hunt" her down.....God "brought" Eve to Adam. Adam's role was then to discern what God had put in front of him - and he did, acknowledging - "this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh" - in other words, a suitable helper for me.

Daily Scriptures 1/20/10

Scripture: Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” (NKJV)

Nugget: God felt it was not good for Adam to be alone - without aid or help. God had just placed man in the Garden of Eden and told him to cultivate it and keep it. Couples of things come to mind here:

a) You only need help when you have something you are doing. Marriage is not about 2 kids and a dog or "Mr. and Mrs."; it’s about fulfilling a mission.

b) Not any or every help will do - a helper "suitable" to you is what is required.

c) Lastly, marriage was not Adam's idea - it was God's idea. Stop being over anxious - God knows what you need.God help us!

For My Singletons, Pt. 12

Hey fellow Singletons!! I have a story for you. It’s about the hook-ups and mix-ups of being set-up!! A friend of mine was introduced to this guy by her friend. The friend thought that they would be a “great” match for each other & had been trying to introduce the two for years. After a few conversations and many text messages later, the new duo decided to meet! Oh what a joyful occasion it is to meet the one you’ve been communicating with & the feeling that comes with it!

So my friend got the chance to meet the young man on his own territory. When I say “territory”, boy do I mean it. This young man let my friend know that his aunt & mother came to visit him unexpectedly at the last minute. So basically, my friend was walking into an interesting situation. When she arrived, the introductions were nice & pleasant enough; however, nice & pleasant can become something else entirely.

My friend received a nice tour of the home, in which, she & the young man had good conversation & touched based on previous topics of the text messaging & phone correspondence. After a little time had passed, the mother came in & ended the conversations by letting her son (little boy) know, that it was, “Time for him to go to bed, as he had to work tomorrow”. Now this would be understandable if we were dealing with a teenager living at home, but not a GROWN man living in his OWN place, paying his own bills with his name on the mortgage. Next, the son was questioned about having to take my friend home, “You mean you gotta take her home too?!” (Now wouldn’t this be the gentlemanly thing to do, mom???) Not only were her comments rude & unexpected, but the “young man” whispered to my friend that he’s “sorry” that his mom acted in such a manner. Mind you ladies, he was whispering in his own home, where he pays his own bills, to a guest he invited over.

My friend handled this situation way better than I think I would’ve. I really would’ve had to remember my Christian values because such rudeness is uncalled for! The funny thing is, at the end of the evening the guy told my friend that his mom “liked her because my mom asked for your name.” Yeah, right. She probably was remembering for her own reasons.

For some reason, the friend match-making business has not worked out for me & my single friends for the past year. I don’t know what the new thing is to hook people up with people you’re not compatible with, but it’s not working! To make this even more interesting, the friend who hooked them up was related to the guy (now shouldn’t you know your own family?)

A tip for the Singletons, beware of the hook-ups and mix-ups of being set-up!

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 1/19/10

Scripture: Genesis 2:15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. (NKJV)

Nugget: God "positions" us. He took his time to create the Garden of Eden and then after that was done, created Adam and placed him in the garden. Likewise, there are things we are waiting for God to do in our lives, but we don't see any visible progress. Trust God - He might be preparing your "Eden" and details take time.

Daily Scriptures 1/15/10

Scriptures: John 8:31-32 31Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (NLT)

Nugget: “The truth” is God’s word. That’s why it’s so important for us to learn it, study it, and know it for ourselves. It’s more than opening the Bible when you go to church only; it’s taking the time to study the Word on your own. We must remain faithful servants to God, & knowing His word is part of the process!

In what areas of your Christian walk to you need to improve?

Quote: “The Bible is the authoritative Word of God and contains all truth.” –Bill Clinton

Praying for Haiti

Yesterday was a normal day for me: work, talking to friends, going out to lunch, & more.  A few friends & I even discussed the cold & freezing weather in Florida (wondering when it would pass over).  Later in the evening, I talked to a friend, who's from Haiti, & she let me know about the 7.0 earthquake that hit her home island.  I hadn't heard about it before this conversation.

Our conversation made me realize, even more, how much we take for granted.  It made me see the cold weather as nothing more than a passing thing.  I mean, Haiti, according to the commentators on TV, is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere!  The people of Haiti have experienced so much heartbreak and heartache, that it makes me wonder how much they can take!  What a true test of faith & determination.  I was reminded by the news that the people of Haiti are strong people with a lot of heart!  I'm still left wondering, when is their breaking point, as everyone has one.

I don't know if I can continue to look at the news, but then I want to know what's happening.  I definitely know I can pray!  No matter what, prayer reaches God's ears & it helps our hearts.

So in the midst of your day, when it's easy to get caught up in what may be little things, please remember Haiti & others who are less fortunate.  There's so much we can do besides complain or highlight our situations.  Someone needs our prayers & love.

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.

Daily Scriptures 1/13/10

Scripture: Proverbs 21:16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

Nugget: This scripture is a reminder to stay on the track of understanding. In always seeking understanding and knowledge, one remains on the path of growth. In wandering from this path, one could end up in the middle of nowhere, wondering what happened.

The saying, “the blind leading the blind”, comes to mind. Don’t follow anything or anyone that’s not leading to wise knowledge and continued growth.

Praise Song: "Here I Am to Worship"

This week's Praise Song is Michael W. Smith's "Here I Am to Worship".  What a wonderful worship song!!!  May you be moved to worship our Savior in your own way!

Daily Scriptures 1/12/10

Scripture: Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Nugget: There’s nothing like God’s love that can change you. He can take away the things within you that you never believed could be removed. You’ll look at yourself & wonder “what happened?”. When God changes you, nothing can compare to it!! It’s not a fleeting change; it’s a change that’s profound.

Daily Scriptures 1/11/10

Scripture: Psalm 100:3 Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. (NLT)

Nugget: The Lord is God; He made us just the way He wanted us to be! There were no mistakes when He formed us & all that He desired us to be. That’s why it’s so important not to compare ourselves to others, whether it is on a personal level, professional level, etc.

Acknowledge that God is good & He formed us exactly as we are to be; we are His people & He got it right!!

Daily Scriptures 1/7/10

Scriptures: Ephesians 5:1-2 1Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. (NLT)

Nugget: Daily, we should seek to be more & more like God. We are his children & the ultimate sacrifice was made for us--Jesus. In living as examples of his love & actions, we are showing God’s love in the human form.

Quote: “What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.” –Eleanor Powell

Daily Scriptures 1/6/10

Scriptures: Proverbs 22:17-18 17Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, 18for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. (NIV)

Nugget: Wise words from wise people, these are definitely the things you should keep in your heart and speak upon. There are so many times in which people will give you advice, but most of the times that advice isn’t based upon wisdom. This is why it’s so important to be mindful of whom you surround yourself with and who you receive advice from.

Seek wisdom and don’t let everyone speak into your life. There’s power and discernment when obtaining wisdom!

Quote: “The next best thing to being wise oneself is to live in a circle of those who are.” –C.S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 1/5/10

Scriptures: Genesis 37:5, 9-10 5And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. 9And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

Nugget: Joseph dreamed dreams and he shared the dreams with his family. Needless to say, Joseph’s family was not pleased with his “nerve” to dream & his desire to achieve these dreams.

Not everyone will support your dreams & some will definitely not be happy for you to achieve these dreams. This is why it’s very important to guard your dreams & who you share these dreams with. There will be times when you think someone is on your side & will learn otherwise.

Keep working to achieve what God has put in your heart. With Him having your back, the possibilities are endless!

Snuggie????

Okay everyone, they got me to try it! My co-worker and other friends have raved about the Snuggie. I thought I'd give it a try, so I went out & purchased the gift that appeared to be on everyone's Christmas list.

My opinion, I didn't get to snug with the Snuggie! LOL. First, I had to figure out how to put the thing on the right way. I guess I didn't pay too much attention to the commercials that are on TV (I think I spent too much time laughing at the commercials than anything else, then changing the channel). Secondly, my friend, Ms. K, told me that I should've taken a "Snuggie 101" class before purchasing! Thirdly, I don't think that it's made for everyone, even though the box states, "one size fits all" (& I'm not a large person by any means). It just didn't fit right to me. Lastly, I purchased this item one day & took it back to the store the next.

I commend those who have gotten exactly what they were seeking in purchasing this item. As for me, I'll take my good 'ol blanket any day. This, in my opinion, supersedes a Snuggie! The Snuggie isn't for everyone! My Snuggie was the "Snuggie that didn't".

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 1/4/10

Scriptures: Proverbs 22:1-2 1 Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold. 2 The rich and poor have this in common: The LORD made them both. (NLT)

Nugget: Our reputations are what we’re known by. We definitely want good reputations over anything else. Who wants his/her name associated with something (or someone) bad?

The Lord made us all to be His people; He wants us to act accordingly & to demonstrate the characteristics He’s instilled in us.

Happy 2010: Live, Love, Laugh

Happy 2010 everyone!!

One of my favorite sayings is "Live, Love, Laugh". This is definitely a great philosophy to carry into 2010 & beyond. Live life like you haven't before, Love like you've never had a broken heart, & Laugh like no one is watching! We've been given another opportunity to do this & I'm excited about the road ahead.

I recently watched Tyler Perry's "The Family that Preys" again. Isn't it always funny how when you watch a movie for the second, third, etc. time, you always see something you haven't before? Well, watching this movie from the eyes of my cousin (who had never seen the movie before), provided me with another way to see it. It definitely reminds us to live life & not to let life pass us by. If you haven't seen the movie, watch it if the opportunity arises.

"Don't be so busy making a living that you don't make a life." -Unknown

Let's leave it behind in 2009 & live this year like we haven't before. May God bless you with the opportunities you seek, the strength to carry them out, & the faith to believe that He's in control.
Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.
