Daily Scriptures 2/25/10

Scripture: Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” (NLT)

Nugget: Daily, we should show our love for God. We should seek to be more like Jesus in our actions and deeds. It’s impossible for us to be perfect, but not impossible for us to be better than the day before.

May we show our love for God every day!

Quote: “You can't love God without having faith in Him, and you certainly can't have faith in Him without loving Him.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 2/23/10

Scripture: Proverbs 14:22 If you plan to do evil, you will be lost; if you plan to do good, you will receive unfailing love and faithfulness. (NLT)

Nugget: What we do and how we react to our situations determine a lot. If we set out to do evil, it does come back on us. Various emotions will have us so far out there; we wonder how we get to certain points. On the other hand, doing good has its rewards. We must do our best to do what’s right.

Quote: “While we’re free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions.” –Stephen R. Covey

Daily Scriptures 2/22/10

Scripture: Matthew 22:44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool

Nugget: So many people get caught up in getting revenge on those who have done them wrong. This revenge can, at times, come with dire consequences. This is why it’s good to leave things up to God. God can make your enemies your footstool! He can handle things better than we can!

Looking back, the human side of me wanted to do an “eye for an eye”, but thank God for the Christian part of me that says, “Treat people like you want to be treated”. We all have to answer to God for our choices and decisions, that’s why it’s good to remember that God’s got it all under control.

Quote: “By reflecting on God’s love, we may be inspired to love our friends and family a bit more, and maybe even learn to love our enemies.” –From http://www.beliefnet.com/

Praise Song: "Hosanna"

This week's Praise Song is Kirk Franklin's, Hosanna.  This is from his "The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin" album.  I just love this song!!  It's moving & makes you want to get up & shout.  May you be uplifted today!!!!

The angels bow down at the thought of You
The darkness gives way to the light for You
The price that you paid gives us life brand New
Hosanna forever we worship You
Hosanna forever we worship You [2x]

For you are the joy that my soul longs for
The lamb that was slain for my sins and the One I adore
King of kings, Ruler of everything
Hosanna forever we worship You
Hosanna forever we worship You [2x]

For your patience and kindness
And favor and mercy
And honor and glory
Because you are worthy
We can't live without You
We can't breathe without You
We can't sing without You
Hosanna Hosanna

No greater love in this world but You
No one can compare to the things You do
Wherever You go I will follow You
Hosanna forever we worship You
Hosanna forever we worship You

Someday every tongue shall confess Your name
This house made of clay soon shall pass away
Whatever the test You will bring us through

Hosanna forever we worship You [4x]

[Vamp]
Hosanna forever
Hosanna forever and ever and ever
Hosanna
We praise You
Hosanna forever and ever and ever

Hosanna forever
Hosanna forever and ever and ever
Hosanna forever
Hosanna forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever
Hosanna forever

Music: Food for the Soul

A good friend gave me a great CD; a compilation of good Gospel songs! This CD reminds me of the importance of good music in my life and the impact this music has on my thoughts and actions.

As my Pastor says, “When you’re going through something, don’t listen to Mary J.’s “I’m Goin’ Down”. What a true statement this is! Music can definitely affect our outlook on the things around us.

It’s very interesting the impact a good song will make. I feel that most Gospel and Inspirational songs can instantly change my mood. It can be both uplifting and reflective. This reflection can be a trip down memory lane to remember where God has brought me from to where I am today. The uplifting can be hearing that one good song to help make it through the day.

I will definitely continue to post the weekly Praise Song! It definitely helps me to know that good music is out there. May we continue to uplift each other in this thing we call life.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 2/16/10

Scriptures: Matthew 5:43-45 43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (NIV)

Nugget: One of the most difficult things to do is to pray for someone who has done you wrong. The Bible says, “pray for those who persecute you”. This made me think, “Wow, this must be wrong”. How do I begin to do this!?

I really think this is a true test of Christianity. If you only pray for those who you love & those who you consider “on your side”, what change does this make? Recently, I had someone who I no longer consider a friend, and who had treated me badly, say, “I need prayer”. I thought God was playing a joke. But in reality, this is what God has called us to do.

We are to be examples of God’s love walking the Earth. He loves us in spite of ourselves & we are to extend this same love to those around us—even those we consider enemies. We’re all in this together.

Quote: “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible to be alive without breathing.” –Martin Luther King Jr.

Daily Scriptures 2/15/10

Scripture: Proverbs 27:9 The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense. (NLT)

Nugget: There’s nothing like true friendship! A true friend will tell it like it is & will allow you to do the same. True friends offer counsel that makes you examine yourself & want to achieve more. A friend listens when you need it, laughs when you need to laugh, allows you to cry when you need to cry, & is there to pick up the pieces when necessary!

I’m grateful & blessed for the true friendships God has placed in my life. I pray that I’m being the same friend to them that they are being to me. Don’t take true friendships for granted.

Quote: “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.” –Muhammad Ali

Praise Song: "Good to Me"

This week's Praise Song is Mary Mary's "Good to Me", featuring Destiny's Child.  This song has a good beat & is uplifting.  I love the lyrics as well.  It's a reminder to count all blessings & to look back on where God has brought me from. Life is truly a blessing & if God does nothing else, He's already done enough (more than enough)!

No, No it ain't the way it used to be and
Yea, yes, it may be hard to believe
When, When I think about all my blessings
I, oh I'm telling you God's been good to me

Growing up in a real big family
I had to a take what I could get
There was always a sister or brother
I had to share every thing with
I had to share my room, wear hand-me-downs
'Cause we didn't have much money
But now there's not much I long for
Telling you God's been good to me

No, No it ain't the way it used to be and
Yea, yes, it may be hard to believe
When, When I think about all my blessings
I, oh I'm telling you God's been good to me

You may think I've got it easy
And that's the way it's always been
But that's not really my story
I'll tell you how it all happened
I had to work real hard to get here
But I didn't do it all alone
Someone was watching over me
And that is why I sing this song

No, No it ain't the way it used to be and
Yea, yes, it may be hard to believe
When, When I think about all my blessings
I, oh I'm telling you God's been good to me

If I began to count my blessings
I wouldn't know where to begin
God has done so much for me
He's been much more that a friend
He's been protector and provider
Though I didn't always know
Always been right beside me
And without him where would I be

No, No it ain't the way it used to be and
Yea, yes, it may be hard to believe
When, When I think about all my blessings
I, oh I'm telling you God's been good to me

Until next time.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Wishing you a great day with loved ones.  Value each & every day with the ones you love, don't just get caught up in one day & what the things around us want us to focus on (for example: the stores with all of the V-day stuff, candy, etc.).  Each day should hold importance as we should take nothing for granted.

I think that Holidays remind us of the importance of a lot of things: family, friends, love, blessings that we take for granted, & more.  I'm learning to take each day for what it is & to enjoy it to the fullest.  Tomorrow isn't guaranteed!

Have an awesome day!  Happy Everyday!!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

My Blog List

I have been blogging for a little more than a year now.  I have met a good number of fellow bloggers out here in Blog Land.  There are a few that you will find on "My Blog List" that I follow on a regular basis. (There are a few I knew before Blog Land)

I wanted to point out some of the ones that I visit and how they have helped in my blogging journey as well as other parts of my life (especially my Christian walk).  You should stop by them if you get a chance :)  These are in no particular order!

1) Love Abounds at Home:  Ms. Sandra has a way of reminding me to stay on track.  She doesn't know this, but her encouraging words come right on time!  Sometimes these words aren't words that I knew I needed until I read them on her blog!

2) Humble Heart: Becca's blog shows me that we have a lot in common.  From our posts to our way of thinking.  Her posts send me confirmation of things I've written about, prayed on, or both.

3) Like Water for Chocolat: My friend's blog lets me know to keep living & to try new things.  She's always on-the-go & living life!  The life lessons she posts help me along the way.

4) My Spot on the Shore: Lorrie's posts put a smile on my face & always get me to thinking.  Whether it's her trying vlogging for the first time or posting God's word, I'm guaranteed to walk away different than when I started reading!

5) Just Stuff: Daphine!  Just love her & her stories.  She shares life lessons that make me smile.  I enjoy all of her posts.  What a great spirit she has.

There's so much I can say and more blogs I can add (which I'll probably do at a later time).  But I wanted these fellow bloggers to know that they have made an impact on me with the stories & pictures they share.  Do not think that no one is reading what you're sharing & that it doesn't make a difference, because it does!! I'm glad to have met you in this world of blogging.

Until next time.

Next Movie: "Why Did I Get Married, Too?"

The next movie I want to see when it comes out at the theater is Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married, Too?"  I liked the first movie a lot.  Jill Scott, Janet Jackson, and the entire cast did an amazing job; they've all returned to be a part of "Too".  I'm sure that the sequel will be just as good!

The movie comes out April 2, 2010!  So it gives you time to catch the first one :)

Until next time.

Still Learning....

Okay all, I'm still learning the important of rest.  Had to stay home from work today due to me getting sick.  And anyone who knows me knows that I do not like sitting still!!  I may have to stay out tomorrow too :(  But our bodies let us know when something is wrong & we need to take heed!

As the year continues on, I also continue to learn about people, myself, and growth.  I'm glad to see the progression in myself & in those around me.  I'm glad to see my friends achieving goals they've set for themselves as well as those who are setting goals to achieve.  We all should have something we're working on.

I've learned in the past year, that I can start a new job & excel in it.  I've learned that I can accomplish things I've set out to do & a few things I didn't know I could do :)  I've learned to keep working on the next thing--to step out on faith.  Learning & still learning......

Thanking God for all opportunities & more!!

Until next time.

Praise Song: "Hold On" (Change is Coming)

This week's Praise Song is Sounds of Blackness' "Hold On".  This song came to me through a conversation with my cousin.  She reminded me that no matter what's going on, a change is on the way.  God is in control!!

Yesterday, a man step to me,
He said how can you smile when your world is crumbling down
I said, here's my secret, when I wanna cry, I take a look around
And I see that I'm getting by
And I hold on
Hold On
A change is coming
Change is coming
Hold on
Hold on
Don't you worry
Don't worry bout a thing
Hold on
Hold on
You can make it
You can make it
Hold on
Hold on
Everything
Everything will be alright
Some people like to worry
Some people like hide
Some people like to run away
From the pain inside
Now it's your business
Do whatever you wanna do
But if it don't work out
Here's what you oughta do
When the troubles of life weigh you down, just lift your head
Yea, yea, yea
When the love you seek is hard to find,
Don't give up, just keep strong, keep ther faith and
Hold on

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 2/9/10

Scriptures: Psalm 62:1-2 1I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. 2He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.

Nugget: Yesterday was a tough Monday! Everything that could’ve happened did for myself & even for the friends I talked to. I later talked to my cousin who reminded me of God’s changes being on the way & how we have to focus on this.

There’s so much that God does for us, but it’s so easy to get caught up in what’s immediately going on in front of us. My cousin’s reminder opened my eyes to God’s work & waiting on Him to make things happen. He’s our strong tower, He’s our victory; waiting on Him can never be wrong.

God is & will always be what we seek strength from: we cannot be shaken, even by everyday occurrences.

Daily Scriptures 2/4/10

Scriptures: Exodus 13:21-22 21By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people. (NIV)

Nugget: These scriptures remind me of God being a constant guide and presence in our lives. Moses was leading his people to the Promised Land & God was the constant guide. Moses was doing what God instructed him to do & God never left him.

God is a constant in our lives, even when we think He’s not there. Imagine all of the things that God has instructed us to do, that we don’t pay attention to; let alone, the stuff we seek God’s guidance for & we ignore when He speaks.

Constant presence = God.

Quote: “God will be present, whether asked or not.” –Latin Proverb

Daily Scriptures 2/2/10

Scripture: Isaiah 64:4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. (NIV)

Nugget: There’s no one like God! From the ancient times, no one has seen or heard anyone like Him. God has so much in store for each of us; the point is, we have to wait on His time for His plans to come to fruition. Because the things that God can do---no one else has the power to do.

Our roles—wait and have faith; His role---working on our behalf in His time.

Quote: “Sometimes when we’re waiting for God to speak, He’s waiting for us to listen.” –Martha Bolton

Praise Song: "Open My Heart"

The first Gospel CD I purchased was Yolanda Adams' "Mountain High, Valley Low".  The song I remember listening to that caught my attention was "Open My Heart".  I remember the words speaking to me & reminding me of God's presence in my life.  I remember one day being in the car with a friend & the radio playing the song twice back to back; the DJ was like "someone definitely needed to hear that song today".  It's truly amazing how a song can "bring you back" to certain moments in your life & the memories these moments hold.  I hope this song touches you as it has touched me.

[Verse 1]
Alone in a room
It's just me and you
I feel so lost
'Cause I don't know what to do
Now what if choose the wrong thing to do
I'm so afraid, afraid of disappointing you

[Chorus]
So I need to talk to you
And ask you for your guidance
Especially today
When my life is so cloudy
Guide me until I'm sure
I open up my heart

[Verse 2]
My hopes and dreams
Are fading fast
I'm all burned out
And I don't think my strenghts gonna last
So I'm crying out
Crying out to you
Lord I know that you're the only one
Who is able to pull me through

[Chorus]
So I need to talk to you
And ask you for your guidance
Especially today
When my life is so cloudy
Guide me until I'm sure
I open up my heart

[Bridge]
So show me how
To do things your way
Don't let me make the same mistakes
Over and over again
Your will be done
And I'll be the one
To make sure the it's carried out
And in me, I don't want any doubt
That's why...

[Chorus]
I need to talk to you
And ask you for your guidance
Especially today
When my life is a little bit cloudy
Guide me until I'm sure
I open up my heart

[Chorus 2]
All I need to do
Is hear a single word from you
I open up my heart
Just one word could make
A difference in what I do Lord
I open my heart to you

You're the lover of my soul
Captain of my sea
I need a word from you
That's why I open up my heart

Until next time.

Blessings,

~Lisi P.
