Home Sweet Home

One year ago today, I moved into my place. Amazing how fast this year has gone by! 3 of my good friends helped me to move in. 2 were there through the whole process from the beginning & my other friend has his own moving company & took time out of his schedule to do me a favor. I also had other friends who helped me move the remaining of my stuff throughout the week! I’ve heard the saying that, “you learn who your true friends are when you’re moving”. I can definitely see truth in this statement. Because moving last year, was no joke! But we got it done for sure :) I am truly blessed to have such great friends!

A lot has changed with the place over the year; I learned more about decorating, my likes & dislikes & more. I still have more to go, but I’m happy with how things are progressing!! I’m sure that there’s more learning on the way, though. But no worries, things always have a way of falling into place.

I give God all the credit & the glory for the blessings He’s allowed me to have. Believe me, I know it’s not because I’ve been so good. However, I do believe that we’re all a continuous work in progress. With this being said, God’s not done yet! I’m learning more & more about being content with where I am & being content with where God’s leading me.

My home feels like Home Sweet Home now. It’s a good feeling.

With God all things are possible.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 3/30/10

Scriptures: Psalm 121:7-8 7The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. 8The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. (NLT)

Nugget: God is on constant watch; He never sleeps or slumbers. God keeps on keeping us! No matter what’s going on around us & no matter what we get ourselves into, He’s on the job! What a great God we serve; ALWAYS dependable, loving, & on the lookout! We can’t say this about people, but we know it’s true about our God.

In spite of your current situations or circumstances, know that God’s in control (now and forever).

Quote: “Trusting God is the answer. He’ll never let you down.” –Larry Burkett

Daily Scriptures 3/29/10

Scripture: II Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (NIV)

Nugget: Wow, what a deep love God has for us. He brought Jesus to us in order for Him to die for our sins. By & through Him are we made right. As Easter approaches, we must reflect on Jesus & what He’s done for us. Our sins are forgiven, we are made right, we have another chance, & more because of His sacrifice!

What an amazing love.

Quote: “Easter is the demonstration of God that life is essentially spiritual and timeless.” -Charles M. Crowe

Praise Song: "I Need You to Survive"

This week's Praise Song is Hezekiah Walker's "I Need You to Survive".  This song reminds me of the importance of having good people in your life!  Good people who have your back & will pray for you, uplifting you.  We're all in this together!  I know that without good praying people (family, friends, etc) in my life, things would definitely be different today!  May God bless you with the words of this song.

Until next time.

A Day with the Students

Yesterday I chaperoned for my friend’s class trip to USF (the University of South Florida) & Busch Gardens. She teaches for a middle school, so the students are in grades 6-8. I had a great time! Just to see life through the eyes of a student again was so interesting. Many of the students wouldn’t have had this experience if it was not for this trip; as the students are a part of a program that enables them to learn about college, college life, and the steps to get into college.

At USF, we received a tour of the campus and learned more about the university. I have to say, the tour & the USF staff were very accommodating to the students, their questions, & their overall experience. The students received much needed information regarding college & campus life. They even received a tour of the dorms (which some were very surprised about the surroundings & what college life consists of!). I can completely understand their awe, because their experience made me flashback to my college tour trips years ago :)

At Busch Gardens, the students rode every ride in the park!! They (we) literally shut the park down! LOL. They did get me on a roller coaster & for some reason, this was the longest roller coaster in the park & the one that everyone remembers the most! It was no joke.

I truly enjoyed this experience. It reminds me of my past experiences & growing up with the desire to attend college & to gain the experience necessary to get there. In this manner, my background has similarities to theirs. I pray for these students & other students out there because even today’s times are different than those I grew up living (which was not too long ago at all!). May we be the encouragement & examples these students need in order to achieve their dreams & goals.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 3/22/10

Scripture: Psalm 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Nugget: Music definitely can be the cure for many things; it brings cheer, uplifting feelings, and joy. When we go through many things, there are many songs that we can listen to in order to bring us through. The thing is listening to the right song!

In this manner, God can definitely bring a new song to us; in our spirit! Do you ever notice that you can have that one song (or many) that uplifts your spirit when you’re down? If you don’t have a song, don’t worry, God will “put a new song” in your mouth that reaches your heart!

Quotes: “There is nothing in the world so much like prayer as music is.” -William P. Merrill and “We need music to restore the human spirit” -Leonard Slatkin

Praise Song: "The Presence of the Lord"

This week's Praise Song is "The Presence of the Lord" by Byron Cage.  I love it when our choir sings this song.  It's definitely a happy song!!  Makes you want to clap & sing (or at least try to sing)!  Enjoy!

The presence of the Lord is here,
The presence of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The presence of the Lord is here,
The presence of the Lord is here.
The spirit of the Lord is here,
The spirit of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The spirit of the Lord is here,
The spirit of the Lord is here.

The power of the Lord is here,
The power of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The power of the Lord is here,
The power of the Lord is here.

Everybody blow the trumpet,
And sound the alarm,
Because the Lord is in the temple,
Let everybody bow,
Let all the people praise Him now,
The Lord is here!

A blessing from the Lord is here,
A blessing from the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
A blessing from the Lord is here,
A blessing from the Lord is here.

Everybody blow the trumpet,
And sound the alarm,
Because the Lord is in the temple,
Let everybody bow,
Let all the people praise Him now,
The Lord is here!

I can feel the presence of the Lord,
And I'm gonna get my blessing right now.

The presence of the Lord is here

Until next time.

"The Game" May Be Returning!!!

I just read an article by Jawn Murray about my favorite show, "The Game".  In the the article, he states that the show's return is nearly finalized!!  Yay :)  In the last episode, we were left with the union of the characters Melanie and Derwin being married.  It was a good episode & definitely one of my favorites.

As most of my friends know, I'm a football fanatic & the show is based around the lives of those in football & those in their lives.  It has the twists & turns of the football world & then some.

You can check out the article here.  Currently, we're all awaiting the contracts of the actors/actresses!!!

I'm excited about my show returning.  I hope that all goes according to plan.  Maybe it'll return by football season!!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 3/15/10

Scripture: Psalm 62:7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. (NIV)

Nugget: Everything we do and all we are is based upon God. He is our refuge and strength. There are many times in my life, that I know if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t have made it! He’s a constant presence in our lives that we must not take for granted.

Each day, remember and acknowledge God’s presence, no matter what you’re going through. Our rock and refuge is present!

Quote: “Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage, and confidence.” –Og Mandino

Praise Song: "You Deserve My Praise"

One of my favorite Gospel singers is Tamela Mann.  You may know her from Tyler Perry's plays as well as the TV show "Meet the Browns".  I think she has one of the most beautiful voices out there!! It's both powerful and pure; she has a true gift.  This week's Praise Song is her song, "You Deserve My Praise".  Enjoy!!!!  May you be blessed :)

For all that U have done, you deserve my praise
Victories you have won, you deserve my praise
Because I am free, you deserve my praise
For blessing me lord, you deserve my praise

When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all he has done
my soul cries hallelujah! Lord you are the one that deserves all my praise [vamp]
For protecting me, you deserve my praise, for watching over me lord, you deserve my praise
For healing my body, you deserve my praise, for keeping me lord, you deserve my praise
back to vamp
I lift my hands open my mouth
I'll bless your name you deserve my praise

Until next time.

A Beautiful Day

It’s a beautiful day outside! I’m glad that the weather is finally looking up. I definitely plan to take in this day & enjoy it!!

The current school term ends soon, and believe me, this is one happy Professor!! I plan to enjoy the hiatus until the next term starts!! Yes, vacation is calling me :) I can say, that this has been a good term & I can see that my students are enjoying what they’ve learned. I can also see growth in them. My regular job is going well too! Being trained on new things & thanking God for all opportunities!

For vacation, I have a few ideas in mind! Working on finalizing the plans, but I want to have a good time with my friends. Definitely will try to visit a new place & see some sights!!

Spring is among us! Daylight Savings Time too! We lose an hour tonight, but will get it back later in the year :) So don’t forget to adjust your clocks!!

Until next time.

Achieving Balance

Wow, these days are flying by!! Time waits for no one. I’m learning more & more about achieving balance in my life. Lately, my schedule has been hectic. I find myself deciding what’s important & what I need to hold on to. In this analysis, I’m discovering that some things have to be let go.

I don’t have to volunteer for everything & I don’t have to overextend myself. My Pastor’s said before, “No is not a bad word!”. LOL, what a true statement. The thing is, letting go of some of the things I’ve been doing for years; the certain committees, the certain volunteer opportunities, etc. I think the lesson here is, things change & progress occurs. In these changes, you’re changing too.

Not that I don’t like what I’ve been doing, I just need a true break to regroup & to focus on the new things that are a part of my life. I need to go back & look at the Bucket List I made last year & start checking things off! Life is so precious & the next moment is not guaranteed. There’s so much left to do & so much to see!!! With each day, God grants me the opportunity, by His mercy & grace, to experience everything! I must not take this for granted.

So, vacation is coming soon! I can’t wait. In the meantime, it’s time to get things in order & to work on that balancing act!! My Libra scales are calling me :)

Until next time.

Praise Song: "I Never Lost My Praise"

At church today, the choir sung "I Never Lost My Praise" by Tramaine Hawkins.  Sis. Tina (at church) led the choir.  What a great song!! It just reminds me that no matter what I go through or what I've been through, praise should be a continuous part of my life. Sometimes the best way to get through things is by PRAISE.

Hope you enjoy the song!!

I've lost some good friends along life's way
Some loved ones departed in heaven to stay
But thank God I didn't lost everything
I've lost faith in people who said they cared
In time of my crisis they were never there
But in my disappointment, in my season of pain
One thing never wavered, one thing never changed

I never lost my hope,
I never lost my joy
I never lost my faith
But most of all, I never lost my praise

My praise still here,
My praise still here

I've let some blessings slip away
When I lost my focus and went astray
But thank God I didn't lost everything
I lost possessions that were so dear
I lost some battles walking in fear
But in the midst of my struggles, in my season of pain
One thing never wavered, one thing never changed

I never lost my hope,
I never lost my joy
I never lost my faith
But most of all, I never lost my praise

Praise, Praise, Praise, Praise, Praise
Most of all, I never lost my praise

My praise still here,
My praise still here

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 3/5/10

Scripture: Psalm 41:9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. (NIV)

Nugget: Everyone who’s around you isn’t necessarily for you or on your side. There are many people who we may have considered friends, who’ve let us down. These same people have done things we’ve never thought they’d do.

No one can hurt you more than those whom you consider the closest to you & whom you love. The thing is, use the power of discernment God has given you to determine who should remain in your life & who’s not to be a part of it.

Quote: “Although you may grieve the betrayal of someone you thought was your friend, know that it's better to know than to be betrayed again.” –From http://www.love-quotes-and-quotations.com/

Daily Scriptures 3/2/10

Scriptures: Job 23:10-11 10 “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. 11 For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside. (NLT)

Nugget: Job was definitely a man who believed God, stayed on the path, and didn’t lose faith. There’s so much we can learn from him. In spite of the situation Job was in, He didn’t lose sight of God in the midst of it all.

In many ways, we go through things similar to that of Job, but our reactions to the situation(s) are completely different. Sometimes, we must look at the bigger picture of what God is trying to show us; we don’t want to lose the lesson in the storm. Faith goes a long way. Just look at Job!

Quote: “Faith isn’t faith until it’s all you’re holding on to.” -Unknown

Praise Song: "The Best in Me"

This week's Praise Song is Marvin Sapp's "The Best in Me".  This song is a reminder of God's constant love for us.  No matter what we've done, no matter where we came from, no matter where we're going---God's love is constant and has always been.  Thanking God for His unconditional love!!!  © Lisi P, 2010

He saw the best in me,
When everyone else around
Could only see the worst in me,

(Can I tell ya'll one more time, one more time?)

I said he saw the best in me,
When everyone else around
Could only see the worst in me,
(I wish I had a witness tonight, all I need is one)
Heyyy,

[Choir:]
He saw the best in me,
(When everyone else around me)
When everyone else around (OOOOh)
(Could only see)
Could only see the worst in me,

(Does anybody have that testimony? When folk walks you off, Said you would never make it, what did he see?)

He saw the best in me,
(When everyone else around you yeaaaa)
When everyone else around,
(OOOOOH, Could Only)
Could only see the worst in me,

(Can I tell ya'll one more thing? I just need to tell you one more thing)

(Listen to this)

See he's mine, and I am his,
It doesn't matter what I did,
He only sees me, for who I am,
(Does anybody know that today?)
OH OHH
See he's mine, and I am his,
It doesn't matter what I did,
See he only sees me for who I AM!
(HELP ME SING IT,)

[Choir:]
(Said that He is mine)
See he's mine,
(I'm his)
And I am his,
(Said it doesn't matter, what I did)
It doesn't matter what I did,
(He only sees me for who I) (Yea Yea)
He only sees me, for who I am,
Yeaaa, Yeaaa, Yea, Yea, Yeaaaaa Yea, Yea, YeaaAAA

He's mine,
(I am his)
And I'm his
(It doesn't matter what I did)
It doesn't matter what I did,
(Cause he only sees me for who I am, yea yea)
He only sees me for who I am,
(I'm so glad)

(That he is mine)
He's mine,
(Yeaaa)
And I'm his
(It doesn't matter what I did)
It doesn't matter what I did,
(He only Sees me...)
He only sees me for who I am

He saw the best in me,
When everyone else around
Could only see the worst in me,

(I wish I had a witness tonight, Can I ask ya'll one question? The question is simply this... What did he see?)

[Choir:]
He saw the Best

(I can't get no help up in here, because there are some folk in here, people have walked you off, said you would never amount to anything, said that you would never end up being anywhere, but [? ] tell them one more time)

Choir: He saw the Best

(When mama said you would never be nothing, When aunties, and uncles, said you would never amount to anything, When daddy didn't come home anymore, He didn't look at you and say that you wasn't going to make it, God looked at you... AND WHAT DID HE SEE! What did he see?)

[Choir:]
He saw the Best
The Best [x7] (I said what did he see [x6]

He saw the best in me
(Oh Lord, Oh, Lord)

(Can I sing the verse one more time, listen to this ya'll, I love this, I love this)

See he's mine, and I am his,
It doesn't matter what I did,
But, He only sees me for who I am,

OOOoooo, Lord Yeaaaaa

He's mine,..
And I'm his,
It doesn't matter what I did,..
He only sees me, for who I am,..

Sing it one time

(He is mine, ooooH)

He's mine,
And I am his,
(OOOOhh)
It doesn't matter what I did,
(He only sees me for who I am)
He only sees me, for who I am,

(And the reason he sees me for who I am, because he created me in his image and his likeness)

(He's mine...)
He's mine,
(And I am his)
And I'm his
(It doesn't matter what I did)
It doesn't matter what I did,
(He only sees me)
He only sees me for who I am,

(He saw the best)

He saw the best

Until next time.

Blessings,
