The Serenity Prayer

Today, "The Serenity Prayer" came to mind:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

--Reinhold Niebuhr

I definitely needed this today.  It makes me think on and of the things that are necessary; throwing all else out of the window.  There are so many things we attempt to control that we have no control over.  Give it to God; He's working.

Enjoy this journey called life!!!

Until next time.

Praise Song: "That's When You Blessed Me"

This week's Praise Song is the L.A. Mass Choir's, "That's When You Blessed Me".  This song reminds me that sometimes we need to let go of the things we hold on to the most in order for God to step in.  We seek His guidance & wisdom, but we don't want to let things go.  How will He step in if we're in the way?  No one & nothing can work things out like God can!!!

(Male solo)
My life was torn beyond repair
I felt so alone, seemed no one cared
You came along, gave me a song
To ease the pain and erase the strain

(Bridge)
You could have left me standing there
With no one, no one to care
But You promised me You'd be there on time
And You did just what You said

(Female solo)
Against all odds, I made the choice
To give You my life, now I rejoice
You answered my prayers not a moment to soon
Your word I embraced, my sins You erased

Repeat Bridge

(Chorus)
(I gave it up) That's when You bless me
(Oh I let it go) That's when You bless me
(Lord, You brought me through, now I'm brand new)
Yes

(I said have Your way) That's when You bless me
(Oh I'm here to stay) That's when You bless me
(Lord, You promised me You would hear my plea)
And You did just what You said.

(Female solo)
Against all odds, I made the choice
To give You my trust, now I rejoice
You answered my prayers not a moment to soon
Your word I embraced, my sins You erased

(Repeat Bridge)

(Chorus w/ solo adlibs)

(Vamp)
And You did just what You said....
And You did just what You said....
And You did just what You said....

Until next time.

Today was a good day....

Wow, what a good day today was!!  My friend received the answer to her prayers: her son was drafted today by the NFL.  What an awesome blessing for her & her family.  I am truly happy for her, her family, & her son; after all of their hard work, we see that dreams do come true!  Her son & a few of his Alabama teammates will make their appearances as rookies in the NFL!!  May we keep them uplifted in prayer.

In other news for today, my friends & I went to an outdoor jazz concert put on by one of the local radio stations!  What a good time.  I haven't been to this event in previous years, so this was my first time attending.  I definitely enjoyed it.  I'm still learning the different jazz artists & only know of a few, but tonight, my favorite was Boney James.  He put on a good show!  One of the songs he performed was "Send One Your Love", tied to an old Stevie Wonder hit.  Another song, "Butter" is also good.  Check it out:

I'll definitely attend the next jazz event for sure.  A new fan has been born!!! :)

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/21/10

Scripture: Psalm 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are some things in life that we just have to wait for. No matter how much we want them, waiting will be a part of the process. For instance, women who are pregnant must go through the pregnancy before they go into labor; later, they receive their bundles of joy.

My Pastor always says, “We wanted it yesterday.” Which is so true!! If we could have everything we ever wanted, we would’ve requested it to be here on yesterday & not a moment later. The point is, things have to work themselves out! God is working on it. All things that are meant to be, according to God, will be in His time.

Daily Scriptures 4/20/10

Scripture: Psalm 105:4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. (NIV)

Nugget: Sometimes we have so many things going on & so much coming at us that we don’t know what to do. I’ve caught myself in these instances seeking help from everyone but God. Now I know better!! God is our source of strength—ALWAYS. We just have to seek his face. We cannot forget or overlook our main power source.

Who are you seeking help from? What is your source of strength?

Quote: “God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons we could not learn in any other way. The way we learn those lessons is not to deny the feelings, but to find the meanings underlying them.” –Stanley Lindquist

Praise Song: "I Am"

This week's Praise Song is CeCe Winans' "I Am".  I remember my friend playing this song in college; it was the first time I had heard it.  It's actually one of the first gospel songs that I remember being introduced to & I immediately liked it.  By the way, CeCe is great in concert & has a wonderful heart!  I had the chance to meet her & at the time, had no clue who I was really meeting & the impact her music would have on me.

Let this song be a reminder that God is our "I Am".  He's everything & there's nothing too difficult or too much for Him.  Enjoy!

I am the one yes I created the whole universe
Greater than anything in heaven and in all the earth
It's my air you breathe so I'm the one that you should please
I am the one you need why should you be alone?

I am that I am
I'm all that you need
I can yes I can
no it ain't too hard for me
Do you know, really know, do you really believe
Every day, every night of your life
I am

It hurts my heart indeed to see those whom I love in need
Knowing all I wonder why they never call on me
If you just ask and I can satisfy you with the things
I'll give you everything, yes you can have it all
I tell the sun to shine, the wind to blow, the rain to fall
I move the mountains and the oceans rivers great and small
Yes everything I made I want to hear them give me praise
Especially you my children each and every day

I am that I am
I'm all that you need
I can yes I can
No it ain't too hard for me
Do you know really know
Do you really believe
Everyday
every night
of your life

I am...

Until next time.

Simple Things.....

Today I watched my child-cat sitting on the porch looking at the birds fly by.  It's amazing the things cats find to look at when we think that they are looking at "nothing".  He will sit out there for hours just observing.  As much as I tried to keep up with his watching, I couldn't & found something else that took away my time.

However, this lesson gave me the chance to look at my thought process differently :)  Watching him reminded me of taking in the simple things in life. The things we overlook, take for granted, or let pass us by.  The things we don't take the time to really see or listen to.  It reminded me of the mother who tells her child "in a minute" or the things I will put off to do "until tomorrow" (although there is no guarantee of tomorrow).

As each day goes by, my friends & I have been having more & more conversations about time passing too quickly.  I can't believe we're already this far into April!  Wow, just to pause in the middle of the day is a true blessing.  Then before I know it, it's Friday & then Monday all over again!

With all of this said, I think I'll sit out on the porch with my child-cat next time.  I'll make the effort to sit out there "a little while longer" too see what he sees; maybe, just maybe, I'll see something I haven't noticed before---taking in the beauty of the simple things!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/12/10

Scripture: Ezekiel 11:19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. (NIV)

Nugget: God can change anyone! Just looking back over my life & the lives of those around me, God is definitely in the transformation business! Keep praying for your loved ones & let God’s work be completed in them. Your prayer & steadfastness could be the catalyst to God’s work being completed.

Praise Song: "The Storm is Over Now"

The Young Adult choir sang this song today at church, Kirk Franklin's "The Storm is Over Now".  What a powerful song.  It reminds me of the things that have happened in my life & the things that I've overcome.  By God's mercy & grace---the storm is over now!!

This is to encourage anyone who's going through anything!!  Your storm will be over; God's working.  His master plan will come to pass.

Chorus
It's over now
It's over now
I feel like I can make it
the storm is over now

Solo 1
It's over now, it's over now
I feel like I can make it
the storm is over now

Solo 2
no more cloudy days
they're all gone, gone away
I feel like I can make it the
storm is over now...
can you help me say....

Chorus
If I walk alone
I'm not on my own
I feel like I can make it
the storm is over now
(repeat)

oooooh, oooooh ,oooooh (2x)

Everyone Can't be in Your FRONT ROW

This was sent to me via email.  What wise words it contains!!!  It definitely made me think about those around me & those who I surround myself with.  It all ties together.

Everyone Can't be in Your FRONT ROW
-Author Unknown

Life is a theater so invite your audiences carefully. Not everyone is holy enough and healthy enough to have a FRONT ROW seat in our lives.

There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance.

It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go, or at least minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere relationships, friendships, fellowships and family!

Everyone Can't be in Your FRONT ROW.

Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention to: Which ones lift and which ones lean? Which ones encourage and which ones discourage? Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are just going downhill? When you leave certain people, do you feel better or feel worse? Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know and appreciate you and the gift that lies within you?

Everyone Can't be in Your FRONT ROW.

The more you seek God and the things of God, the more you seek quality, the more you seek not just the hand of God but the face of God, the more you seek things honorable, the more you seek growth, peace of mind, love, & truth around you, the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the FRONT ROW and who should be moved to the balcony of your life.

Everyone Can't be in Your FRONT ROW.

You cannot change the people around you...but you can change the people you are around!

Ask God for wisdom and discernment and choose wisely the people who sit in the FRONT ROW of your life. Remember that FRONT ROW seats are for special and deserving people and those who sit in your FRONT ROW should be chosen carefully.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 4/7/10

Scriptures: Philippians 2:3-5 3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (NLT)

Nugget: Sometimes we get so caught up in our own lives that we don’t take the time to check on friends & family. True, everyone has something going on in their lives, but we are here to help each other through this journey called life. Of course, there will be times when we have to be a little selfish, but there will be times when we won’t have to be.

Who can you take an interest in today? Who haven’t you spoken to in a while? Who has come into your mind to contact, but you haven’t?

Quote: “The human being who lives only for himself finally reaps nothing but unhappiness. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others.” –B.C. Forbes

Daily Scriptures 4/6/10

Scripture: Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

Nugget: God supplies all of our needs. He always comes through. I remember the days when I thought I wouldn’t make it, but God made a way in spite of my circumstances. Now, when things come up that I believe I can’t handle, I reflect on what God has already done for me!!

This is the attitude we must have; God is always working. Don’t give up on Him because He hasn’t given up on you!

Quote: “I pray hard, work hard, and leave the rest to God.” –Florence Griffith Joyner

Praise Song: "Don't Cry"

This week's Praise Song is Kirk Franklin's "Don't Cry".  This song is a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice for us & that He's risen!!!  Happy Easter, everyone!!!

Why do you cry? He has risen.

Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
Why do you cry? he has risen.
Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
He paid it all on that lonely highway(hayyyy). And his anointing I can feel. He shed his blood (ohh ohh ohh). For my
transgressions (ohh ohh ohh). And by his stripes we are healed.

Why do you cry? He has risen.
Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
So as you go through lifes journey(neeeee). Don't you worry lift up your head. Don't you cry (ohh ohh ohh) stop your weeping
(ohh ohh ohh) He has risen He's not dead.

[Chorus]
Don't cry
wipe your eyes
He's not dead.

(ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Don't weep
He's not asleep
Je-hovah
He's not dead

(ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Don't cry
wipe your eyes
He's not dead

[with modulation repeat 4x's]

Until next time.

Happy Easter!!!

John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (NIV)

What a love God has for us, sending Jesus to die for our sins! This love is unconditional & deep! May we focus on this love as we celebrate Easter & its meaning. It’s more than the Easter egg hunts & baskets. It’s about recognizing the sacrifice of our Lord & Savior.

Too many times I take this love for granted. I think of those who’ve come into my life & who’ve let me down or disappointed me in some way, but then I’m reminded that I’ve done the same to someone. However, we’re all reminded of the unconditional love from above.

Take time out to acknowledge Jesus’ presence & role in your life. It’s definitely not something to take lightly! Because of Him, we’re saved!! Not only saved, but loved beyond belief.

May we work daily on becoming all that God wants us to become.

Happy Resurrection Day!! Jesus is always present!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/1/10

Scripture: James 4:14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (NIV)

Nugget: Life is so precious & very short! We must enjoy every moment that God has blessed us with. I always say, “Live, Love, Laugh”. These are so very important; we never know when our last day will be.

Take time out for the important things in life; there are many things that we leave to do for tomorrow, but tomorrow may never arrive. Make sure to tell friends & family that you love them, take in the beautiful sights around you (like the ocean waves crashing, the birds chirping), watch the sun rise, & more.

Enjoy life!
