Daily Scriptures 2/28/11

Scripture: James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. (NIV)

Nugget: We all face trails, temptations, & challenges. The tough part of it all is enduring the tests & passing the tests that come along with what we face. The best part of it all is the outcome at the end of these tests---withstanding & persevering, winning the battles with God’s help. In the end, winning the battle with His promises & love supersede anything that comes our way.

Quote: “All that God requires of us is an opportunity to show what He can do.” -A.B. Simpson

Daily Scriptures 2/24/11

Scriptures: James 3:7-9 7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. (NIV)

Nugget: We, as humans, tend to try to control everything; however, controlling the tongue is something we can’t say that we’ve accomplished fully. We can say things to encourage people & in the next breath be spiteful. We can praise the Lord & next curse someone. It’s amazing what we allow our emotions to control.

We’ve heard the saying, “guard your heart”, but it appears that we need to also guard our tongues. We must work to have a God-like attitude with God-like actions. For many of us, this begins with taming the tongue.

Quote: “Guard your tongue. Once the words pass your lips they can never be called back again.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 2/23/11

Scripture: Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (NIV)

Nugget: Be joyful, patient, & faithful. This short scripture has a lot to “tell” us. With the things we face in our lives, most times, all we have are joy, patience, & faith. We are usually happy about something, waiting for something else, & keeping our faith in God.

In my opinion, these 3 things can carry us so far. They can help us to deal with so much. Daily, we must work to keep our joy, patience, & faith intact—what a balance!!

Daily Scriptures 2/22/11

Scripture: Psalm 39:5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” (NLT)

Nugget: Life is short….period. We really tend to forget this as we go on with our everyday lives & routines. God knows we take a lot for granted; this is why we must pay attention & take heed to His words. This scripture reminds us of how we’re designed---with our lives being just a moment in God’s eyes.

We must appreciate EVERY moment & day that we’re blessed with. Let’s use our time here wisely!

Daily Scriptures 2/21/11

Scripture: Proverbs 22:2 People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart. (NLT)

Nugget: So many times we’ve heard people say, “God knows my heart.” The thing is, God does know our hearts; however, people usually use this statement to justify something that’s being done outside of God’s will for them. Yes, they feel that they are right in their own eyes, but God sees the motives behind their actions.

We truly must examine our actions to make sure they line up with what God intends for us. We must think of how He would react to the actions we take & the thoughts we think (because thoughts can become actions).

How’re your actions & thoughts lining up with God’s examination of your heart?

Quote: "When God measures man, He puts the tape around his heart not his head." -Unknown

Praise Song: "Encore"

This week's Praise Song is James Fortune and FIYA's "Encore".  What great words this song has that speaks to us!  God is a God of encore; He can do so many things over & over again.  Looking back over my life, how many times has He performed an encore in my life??  Not only does He perform an encore, He continues to repeat & repeat performances without hesitation.  I thank God for being a God of the encore!!  May this song touch your heart.

Play Time!

Time continues to fly by! It’s been a bit since I’ve blogged. A lot has been going on & work has definitely been keeping me busy. But I’ve been trying to find time to play too!

I saw the play, “What My Husband Doesn’t Know”, starring Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), Brian J. White (“Stomp the Yard”), Clifton Davis (“Amen”), and Ann Nesby (gospel singer). There were a few new faces for me who were also in the play.

The play is by David E. Talbert; the following is a synopsis of the play from David’s website: “The perfect life for the perfect wife, or so it seems…A loving husband, a big house, health, and happiness is everything Lena Summer ever wished for. But with her husband’s demanding career, the thing she desires the most appears out of reach….until the day HE shows up at her door.”

Here’s a short clip of the cast at rehearsals:

The play was truly a reminder that the grass isn’t necessarily always greener on the other side. The play was good; there was humor, singing, drama, & more. Tour dates are available on David’s website.

Next on the play agenda for me: “Wicked”. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it & cannot wait to see it.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/7/11

Scripture: Ephesians 5:15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. (NLT)

Nugget: We always have to seek to carry ourselves with dignity & knowledge. There’s no reason for us to live life aimlessly as if we have no knowledge or direction. We should always be seeking to advance, to be better than the day we were before.

If you’re unsure of where you’re going & what to do, seek God; begin to work on your faith, use the gifts that He’s put in you, & take heed to what He’s trying to teach you.

Quote: "God be in my head, and in my understanding." -Sarum Primer

Daily Scriptures 2/1/11

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (NIV)

Nugget: Our love for God should be unconditional; however, at times, we turn our love off & on, especially when things don’t go our way or if we feel that God doesn’t do things the way we believe He should.

God is truly an example of what unconditional love is all about—He loves us no matter what; no matter what we do or say. We must work daily to demonstrate this same love in return, without faltering. God is truly good!! There’s no one & nothing we should love more than Him.

Quote: “You can see God from anywhere if your mind is set to love and obey Him.” –Aiden Wilson Tozer
