Daily Scriptures 4/29/11

Scripture: Job 19:25 “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.” (NIV)

Nugget: Job’s faith did not waiver, even after all that he experienced. Job knew that his Redeemer lives. What faith Job had; many of us would’ve faltered!

The best part is, the same Redeemer that was there for Job continues to be here for us now. May we demonstrate the faith of Job in our lives. Thanking God for Jesus, our Redeemer always.

Daily Scriptures 4/28/11

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. (NLT)

Nugget: God’s timing is His timing. He has a timeline for everything. For instance, a butterfly is growing inside a cocoon before it becomes a butterfly; it is not released from the cocoon until it’s fully developed.

This is the same way God is with us; He continues to work on us in order to allow us to be the people He wants us to be. Although we can’t see God’s full plan & final product until later, the blessing comes in knowing that He will complete His work from beginning to end!

Thanking God for His will & work always being completed in His time!

Daily Scriptures 4/27/11

Scripture: Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” (NLT)

Nugget: If anyone knew their purpose, it was definitely Jesus. He came to die for our sins; seeking & saving those who were lost (& still saving those who are!). What an amazing gift God gave us in Jesus. No one else could’ve come to do what Jesus had done.

Daily, I think on how grateful & blessed I am to be a child of God; not by my own might, but because of His mercy & grace. We must reach out to others & let them know about this love that we experience because of Jesus.

Daily Scriptures 4/26/11

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 1:2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. (NIV)

Nugget: It’s good to know that God has people He’s placed in our lives that are thankful we’re here & who can also pray for us. At times, it can appear that we’re on this journey alone, but God does something or sends someone to remind us that He’s taken care of everything.

I thank God for those who He’s brought along my path; whether it be through a phone call, text, email, or other means, God continues to bless my life with positive & encouraging people.

No matter what part of your journey you’re on, God places every person on your path for a reason. Don’t ever underestimate God’s reason for allowing your paths to cross; faith & positivity are endless!

Daily Scriptures 4/25/11

Scripture: Psalm 11:4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. (NIV)

Nugget: God is ALWAYS on the job; there is not a day that He isn’t working on your behalf. Is there anyone else you can say this about??

It’s amazing that we take this for granted in the midst of the storms; “For granted” in the sense that we sometimes ignore the fact that God is present & try to take things in our own hands. God “observes everyone on earth”; just amazing!!

Our God is amazing; allow Him to do His will in His way!! Step aside & let God continue to step up!

Happy Easter!!

Wishing everyone a Happy & Blessed Easter!! Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is risen!!  Thank you God, for your son, Jesus!

Matthew 28:5-6  5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (NIV)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 4/22/11

Scripture: Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (NLT)

Nugget: God is all around us; just looking up at the sky & seeing the sun, moon, birds, stars, etc. is proof of this. We take so much for granted regarding the planet & what God has created that we miss Him & His miraculous works!

I’m reminded of the phrase, “Take time to smell the roses”; this can also mean, “Take time to see what God has created.” There’s no excuse for us not to know Him & to spend time with Him; looking at everything around us proves that He exists!

Quote: "We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade, the presence of God." –C.S. Lewis

How You See Yourself…

A friend shared this with me. What a great word & reminder!!
______________________

The more time you spend feeling sorry for yourself, the more things you’ll have to be sorry about. If you insist on seeing yourself as a victim, you’ll end up experiencing your life as a victim.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Because you can choose right now, and every day, to see yourself in a positive, empowering light.

The way you see yourself is up to you. It doesn’t have anything to do with the circumstances you happen to be facing.

See yourself as the unique, beautiful, creative and effective person you know you are. See yourself as a bundle of positive, inspiring and meaningful possibilities that are well on their way to being fulfilled.

See that you are able to successfully handle whatever life sends your way. See that you are able to thrive and grow and make positive meaning out of the world in which you live.

See yourself as constantly moving forward through it all, with love and joy and purpose. And what you see, you will be.

— Ralph Marston

We must all complete self-evaluations & keep ourselves in check.  We are fearfully & wonderfully made; may we keep each other uplifted in the journey called life!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/21/11

Scripture: Proverbs 17:1 Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict. (NLT)

Nugget: There’s nothing like being surrounding by peace. Most times, we give up this peace based upon our surroundings & who we surround ourselves with. Usually, the more people we have around us, the more strife that occurs. This is why it’s so important to keep these things in check.

Take time to evaluate who & what you have around you. Sometimes, less is truly better; aim towards the peace that you can receive, rather than the conflict & strife that comes with being surrounded by too many of the wrong people & things.

Quote: “It is better to live in peace than in bitterness and strife” –Confucius

Daily Scriptures 4/20/11

Scripture: 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (NIV)

Nugget: In John’s words, he expressed being joyful about the people walking in truth; God’s truth. If John was this joyful, can you imagine how joyful God is to see us do the same? It has to bring Him great joy & make Him proud that we’re on the path that He’s set for us.

This walk isn’t always easy, but this walk is truly rewarding. One of the most precious rewards is to have God say, “Well done my good & faithful servant”, one day. I pray for all of us on this walk & those who we can reach to join us as well! There’s no better path to be on.

Quote: “I would rather walk with God in the dark than go alone in the light.” -Mary Gardiner Brainard

Daily Scriptures 4/19/11

Scriptures: Psalm 91:11-12 11For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. (NIV)

Nugget: God is always concerned about us; He even has His angels at work regarding our wellbeing. God’s angels can come in so many forms; lately, I’ve been thinking about the angels here on Earth that He’s given me. These angels are an encouragement, uplifting, & definitely on the job!

We all have angels that keep us from stumbling. We definitely must not belittle the importance of this gift. The best part is how God orchestrated (& continues to orchestrate) everything to come together on our behalf!

Quote: "Angels are sent to bring us messages from God's heart." -Charles Hunter

Daily Scriptures 4/18/11

Scriptures: Romans 10:9-10 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (NIV)

Nugget: Jesus is Lord; how many of us truly believe this in our hearts & declare it with our mouths? We see many who proclaim Jesus as their Savior, but act completely opposite.

One of my prayers is to stay on the path God has set for me & to act as Jesus would want me to. I truly want to keep my heart in check & to stay in line with Him. Because of Him, we’re all saved.

With Easter approaching, it’s definitely time to do a faith check to see where you are in Him. We definitely want to stay on the right track!

Waiting or Making it Happen??

There are so many things that many of us have set out to do or have put on the “someday” list; believe me, I include myself in these categories. There’s so much that I want still accomplish, but am I really putting things into motion to make these things happen?

Yesterday, I attended a Book Festival with various authors (it was very inspiring & a learning experience) & these authors made valid points. One author made the statement that she kept putting things off for “someday”. I began to wonder “what makes us wait until ‘someday’ to do something?” What if someday never comes?

If there’s something that you want to accomplish, are you on the path to doing it? If not, what is keeping you from doing it? Is it your own thoughts or is it just you in general? A lot of things tie to the faith in God that we proclaim to have. If we truly have this faith, what is holding us back, especially if we’re doing what He’s calling us to do?

I’m going to re-evaluate my “someday” list & start checking things off as I accomplish & work towards these things. There’s so much left to do & I want to do this while there’s still time. “Someday” is truly not guaranteed. As one of my friends consistently reminds, “Make it Happen” (GAV). I truly want to strive for this.

What’s on your “someday” list?? Are you making it happen or sitting back & allowing life to happen to you?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 4/15/11

Scripture: Proverbs 16:8 Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest. (NLT)

Nugget: We must appreciate everything we have; whether we consider it large or small, it’s a blessing. From the blankets on our beds, to the roofs over our heads, to the ability to walk—don’t take anything for granted. Look at it this way, someone’s biggest prayer is the thing you may deem the smallest of your blessings.

As we can see, the spirit of Godliness supersedes any riches & thoughts that come with them. It’s better to appreciate the “little” things of a big God!

Quote: "The extraordinary person is someone who can see big blessings within small blessings." –Bo Sanchez

Daily Scriptures 4/14/11

Scripture: Psalm 92:10 But you have made me as strong as a wild ox. You have anointed me with the finest oil. (NLT)

Nugget: The more we live, the more things we’ll continue to face. This is definitely one thing that will not change.

God has designed us to endure & to be strong in Him & in the things that happen. Some of the challenges may deal with work, people, etc., but another thing that’s constant is God’s hand in our lives. He’s anointed us & given us strength; His design was intentional because He knew what would come our way!

With this being said, are you holding your head up in adversity, are you standing strong in how He designed you, do you trust that God knows what He’s doing?? We’re as strong as we believe ourselves to be in Him & His might.

Daily Scriptures 4/13/11

Scriptures: Mark 10:13-15 13People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (NIV)

Nugget: These scriptures note Jesus’ reaction to people bringing little children to Him in spite of the disciples rebuking the actions of the people. Jesus wanted the children to come, knowing their actions & love were pure & from the heart.

Children are truly a blessing & viewing the world through their eyes is a gift. These scriptures are a reminder that we, too, must take on the childlike attitude & actions in our relationship with the Lord. Too often we are jaded & doubtful, but children, these thoughts are far from their minds.

Just imagine how it would be to have the heart of a child & love Jesus the way that they do---reminds me of the children’s song, “Jesus Loves Me”.

Quote: “When you put faith, hope, and love together, you can raise positive kids in a negative world.” –Zig Ziglar

Praise Song: "Brighter Day"

This week's Praise Song is Kirk Franklin's "Brighter Day".  No matter how your day is going & no matter what is going on, there's a brighter day on the horizon!  There's nothing like the love of our Lord to get us through it all.  Praise Him :)

Daily Scriptures 4/12/11

Scriptures: James 5:10-11 10For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy. (NLT)

Nugget: You’re going to go through things to get to where you want to be. There will be continuous challenges & obstacles along the way, but your perseverance & faith in God will get you there.

Just think of Job & all that he endured; however, his faith didn’t waiver in the midst of his challenges. Job stayed strong in faith & in what God had done for Him & what was to come. We need to adopt a Job-like attitude in the midst of our challenges.

Sometimes, all it takes is having faith—this faith can take you places you never imagined.

Quote: “Never think that God's delays are God's denials. Hold on; hold fast; hold out. Patience is genius.” -Georges-Louis Leclerc

Daily Scriptures 4/11/11

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:24 Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And you are healed because of his wounds. (NCV)

Nugget: Jesus died for our sins; He endured the cross in order for us to live right & to live as He would. Yet, in many instances, we continue to live in the complete opposite manner.

No one else would’ve done what Jesus has done for us. We must live & know in our hearts that He made the ultimate sacrifice for us; because of His sacrifice we are healed! If you know that you’re truly healed, why live in any other way?

Thanking God for His ultimate gift—His son, Jesus Christ.

Quote: “What were we made for? To know God. What aim should we have in life? To know God. What is the eternal life that Jesus gives? To know God. What is the best thing in life? To know God. What in humans gives God most pleasure? Knowledge of Himself.” -James I (J. I.) Packer

Daily Scriptures 4/8/11

Scriptures: Romans 12:17-18 17If someone does wrong to you, do not pay him back by doing wrong to him. Try to do what everyone thinks is right. 18Do your best to live in peace with everyone. (NCV)

Nugget: Living in peace takes work—no matter what anyone says! The human in all of us would love to retaliate on those who have done us wrong, but the Jesus in us seeks to strive for peace. This is why the ongoing battle continues!

As we grow in Christ, we decrease & He increases; we want to be more like Him, aim to be more like Him, & try to behave as He would. These actions continue to move us toward Jesus & the peace that comes with Him.

As the scripture states, “Do your best”, allow Jesus to do the rest. The Jesus in you is more powerful than the “you” in yourself.

Quote: “To forgive and forget a wrong is the best revenge.” -Italian proverb

Judge Not.....

Throughout life, we find ourselves in the situations of being judged & judging others. It’s amazing because, at times, we don’t recognize we’re doing it. It’s so easy to get caught up in thoughts such as, “I would never do that” or “Why would he/she put up with that?” On the other hand, people are quick to tell you what they would do if “they were in your situation.” However, many of these things are easier said than done.

When I find myself in any of the situations noted above, I truly try to take a step back & evaluate where my heart is, if I am trying to pass judgment, & if judgment is being passed on me! More importantly, I try to handle things through actions that glorify God. Sometimes this is difficult to do because the “me” in myself wants to step forward & step ahead of what God is asking me to do.

Some of us really want to be judge, jury, & more. We try to take on this role, not realizing how we would truly fit into & wear the other person’s shoes. The Bible states “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged” (Matthew 7:1 NLT). What powerful words to live by & to follow.

We’re all in this journey called life together; more importantly, God has our backs. We must keep this in mind when we find ourselves thinking outside of His will & actions for us.

So, when I get too caught up in being a judge that I am not qualified to be, I ask myself, “Who am I to judge?”

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/7/11

Scriptures: 1 Peter 3:14-15 14But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. 15Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. (NLT)

Nugget: There are many challenges in life that we’ll face; these things range from judgment to defending our beliefs to more. What I’ve learned that if this is happening to us, Jesus definitely faced more! There’s nothing that we’re experiencing that He hasn’t experienced in advanced.

The importance of it all is to be ready to worship Christ in spite of what comes our way & to be able to give a reason for your hope as a Christian—Jesus Christ. Be ready to explain why He is the love of your life, why He saved you, what He has done for you…..there’s so much to name, but it’s never too much to know Him & to share your beliefs with others.

Quote: “The word hope I take for faith; and indeed hope is nothing else but the constancy of faith.” -John Calvin

Daily Scriptures 4/6/11

Scripture: Psalm 138:8 The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me. (NLT)

Nugget: God finishes what He starts---period. Thank goodness for this because I know that I’m a continuous work in progress. The best thing is, God loves us enough not to leave us the way we are. He can see the plans He has for us & continues to work on us to get us to that place!

God is not like us; He doesn’t abandon what He starts, He completes His plans thoroughly, He’s consistent, faithful. We tend to turn these characteristics off & on. I’m grateful that God’s perfect plans are in progress for me!

Quote: “In whatever direction you turn, you will see God coming to meet you; nothing is void of him, he himself fills all his work.” -Seneca

Daily Scriptures 4/5/11

Scripture: 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we hold things against ourselves that God has already forgiven us for. All we must do is confess our sins & seek forgiveness. Thank God for being a forgiving God; He forgives us when we don’t forgive ourselves.

Take time out today & seek God on your path of forgiveness! He hasn’t moved & has been there all along. With Him, we can always receive a “clean slate”. There’s no one like our God!!

Quote: “You can't undo anything you've already done, but you can face up to it. You can tell the truth. You can seek forgiveness. And then let God do the rest.” -Unknown

Praise Song: "I Trust You"

This week's Praise Song is James Fortune & FIYA's "I Trust You". What a great song. Many of us say we trust God, but do we really?  How are we during the toughest of times?  How do we react to the situations that are beyond our control?  Everything boils down to trusting God & His will!!  He is always right on time!!

Lyrics | James Fortune & FIYA lyrics - I Trust You lyrics

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/4/11

Scriptures: James 1:19-20 19So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (NKJV)

Nugget: Anger can be one of the most controlling emotions that we have. Reacting in anger can leave detrimental outcomes. These scriptures remind us to be slow to anger & swift to hear (because the last thing we want to do when we’re angry is to listen to someone speak!); however, anger doesn’t necessarily lead us down the right path.

Check your reaction to things & people; don’t move forward & react in anger. Allow God to step in & be bigger than you & your reaction(s).

Quote: “For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Daily Scriptures 4/1/11

Scripture: I Peter 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. (NIV)

Nugget: God has given us each a gift. Some may have the gift of singing, some the gift of preaching, & others the gift of writing. Whatever your gift is, it definitely should be used to “glorify God & to edify people” (Pastor Charles Jones).

Don’t sit back on your gifts & talents; use them….you never know who God intends for you to reach through them.

Quote: “Use your gifts faithfully, and they shall be enlarged; practice what you know, and you shall attain to higher knowledge.” –Matthew Arnold
