Daily Scriptures 6/30/11

Scripture: Zechariah 14:9 The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name. (NIV)

Nugget: God is God…period. We should put no one or nothing over Him. He’s the one who created EVERYTHING—us, the people we love, the homes we live in, the blessings we have, etc. It’s so sad that many do not acknowledge Him or His existence or even doubt Him.

The thing is we are in the last days. Those who may not know Him still have the chance to get to know Him. The last thing someone would want to do is wait until “that day” to get to know Him. Don’t be in the number of those who are waiting; take the opportunity to get to know Him now.

Let’s keep each other uplifted in prayer along our Christian journeys. We must encourage one another & bring others to His kingdom!

Daily Scriptures 6/28/11

Scripture: II Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. (NIV)

Nugget: We are truly in the last days. Many things in the Bible are coming to pass. Many people try to attribute the on goings of today to many other reasons, but in reading our Bibles, we know that these things are happening per God’s word.

It is so vital that we know the Lord & His word for ourselves; that we work on our relationships with Him. Now is not the time for playing games! (As my Pastor says)

If today was the last day on Earth, do you know that you’ll be going to Heaven? If the answer is anything other than “yes”, it’s time to get to work!

Daily Scriptures 6/27/11

Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. (NIV)

Nugget: God has plans for us to prosper. He never intended for us to be the tail; we are to be the head, continuing to move forward, lead, & achieve all that He has called us to do.

Pay attention to what God has put in you to do; listen to Him & to His will. By listening to God & following Him, our focus changes. We can look at the challenges we face in a different manner—from the eyes of victory!

Thanking God for leading us & for allowing us to be prosperous; more importantly—for loving us enough to do so!

Quote: "Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you." -Anonymous

Praise Song: "Jesus Take the Wheel"

This week's Praise Song is Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel".  How many times in our lives have we asked Jesus the same thing?  What a blessing & gift to know that He's there to always help us!  God gave us His only Son--we truly must count all blessings--there's no love greater than God's love for us.  What a gift we have!!  We can always ask for His help.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 6/23/11

Scripture: James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. (NIV)

Nugget: It’s definitely okay to say that we believe in God, but do our hearts, actions, & faith line up with our belief? Even the demons believe that God exists; as we know, their actions differ from that of Christians!

We want to live our lives according to how God wants us to live; both in actions & in spirit. It’s not enough to believe only; we must walk the walk as we talk the talk!

Daily Scriptures 6/21/11

Scripture: Proverbs 13:21 Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things. (NIV)

Nugget: There are some people that trouble follows no matter what. We all have (or have had) the friend who’s always in trouble, who always has something going on, & who never has peace. These people are those we have to pray for, as we’re all children of God. God can work out any situation & change any person.

With God working out the situations for us & for others, the reward is good things! “Good things” from God comes in many forms, but one of the best forms is peace! Thank God for keeping us on the right path; allowing the open door for His good things.

Quote: “Troubles are often the tools by which God fashions us for better things.” -Henry Ward Beecher

Daily Scriptures 6/20/11

Scripture: Mark 8:36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? (NIV)

Scripture: Daily, I focus on achieving balance in my life (or getting as close to it as possible!). It’s so easy to get caught up in our various work schedules & being driven to succeed that balance seems far off.

Then I’m reminded that God has given us life to enjoy; this doesn’t consist of work only. Especially since our goals should be to love & praise God, live the life He’s given us to the fullest, & to seek His will for our lives.

“What good is it to gain the whole world?” without having God in our lives. Work, schedules, careers, etc. won’t save our souls, but knowing our Lord & Savior will. We all must seek balance in the lives we’ve been blessed with; God continues to work out the details, we must be willing to let Him lead. Our souls are on the line!!

Smile God Loves You!!

A few years ago, I was a cashier at a department store. During this time, I was going through various changes & experiences in my life (just balancing my school & work schedules were challenging). I’m sure I asked God, “Why me?” on more than a few occasions. God has a way of helping all of us when we least expect it, & even through the people we least expect. Of course, I had many friends who were encouraging me & cheering me on, but God sent the confirmation to keep going through someone who didn’t even know she impacted my life.

There was an elderly woman who would come through my line with her daughter’s assistance (I’m assuming it was her daughter). For some reason, I didn’t initially notice the woman, but her daughter (as she was the one who communicated with me the most). Well, what caught my attention about the woman was the pin/button she always wore. She always had a pin/button attached to her blouse/shirt/sweater that stated, “Smile God Loves You.” Even on the most difficult & challenging days, I couldn’t help but to smile.

You see, at this time, I was also beginning to go to church & praying about my Christian walk. There were many things I was learning & many things I didn’t know. So the reminder from the woman’s pin/button was definitely right on time.

Some people never know the impact they will make on us. At times, God sends them fleetingly to us. Some people will walk in for a moment, touch our lives, & God sends them on. The funny thing is, the elderly woman still impacts me now—from the pin/button she wore, with words she wanted for someone to read. Thanking God he allowed me to see & accept the words during one of the most difficult times in my life.

I never got the chance to tell the woman the impact the pin/button made; she did come through my checkout lines a few times after that; the pin/button always visible & always encouraging. Each time, I had no reason not to smile—the reminder that God loved me allowed me to carry on. Not only did it allow me to carry on, I felt that in my heart He loved me no matter what.

Thanking God for the elderly woman He sent to impact my life; she never knew she did, but I am grateful for her impact on my Christian walk.

“Smile God Loves You” too!!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 6/17/11

Scripture: Psalm 60:12 With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. (NLT)

Nugget: Looking back over our lives, we have many testimonies regarding the mighty things we’ve accomplished with God’s help. There is nothing we cannot do without Him on our side. God even moves the toughest, most challenging things & people out of our paths.

When you feel down, challenged, discouraged, etc., remember that all things are possible with God---all things are possible through Him! With God’s help, mighty things are a must.

Quote: “God is the light that shows me the way, for there is nothing that God cannot do.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 6/16/11

Scripture: James 3:18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. (NIV)

Nugget: Peace should always be a part of our lives; however, daily we are faced with the challenges that disrupt the peace we often seek to obtain. In these instances, & in many others, we are reminded to stay grounded in the peace that comes from God & in the peace that comes with how we handle the various situations that arise.

Peacemakers are those who plant seeds of peace in order for growth to occur. These seeds lead many to peace, righteousness, God, Jesus, and more. In the challenges we face, we should not only seek peace, but seek opportunities that make us peacemakers as well. One of the best ways to keep peace around is to be at peace ourselves!

Quote: “If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.” –Thich Nhat Hanh

Daily Scriptures 6/15/11

Scripture: Proverbs 4:18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. (NLT)

Nugget: Living a Christian life is a path that many of us didn’t seek out to start on. However, because of His grace & mercy, God chose us as His children to be a part of His kingdom. What a gift we’ve received.

Living the Christian life has changed my life. This scripture refers to the way of the righteous being like the “first gleam of dawn”; this makes me think on the continuous light that shines in my life & through me because God chose me. I’m so grateful that this light continues to shine in spite of how I may act, react, or even waiver at times. God’s light is ever present & continues to get brighter as I learn & grow in Him.

Quote: “When we let God be God and work through us, we experience both a sense of serenity and excitement.” -Julia Cameron

Daily Scriptures 6/14/11

Scripture: Philippians 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ (NIV)

Nugget: Our stay here on Earth is temporary. We’re aiming for Heaven; our Lord is waiting for us there. Daily, we see things on the news, through people, & actions that remind us that Heaven is not too far off. We must be in preparation for it.

It’s so important for us to pray for our loved ones who aren’t saved; pray for their salvation. We must also stay uplifted in our walk with Christ as we face many challenges ourselves. However, “when we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be.” Jesus is definitely waiting for us!

Daily Scriptures 6/13/11

Scripture: Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus (NIV)

Nugget: Having the same mindset as Christ; what a challenge this can be for us most times. Then to have the same mindset as Christ in our relationships with each other—even more challenging from day-to-day; because we will treat people how we feel from moment to moment; thank goodness our Lord doesn’t have the same mindset as us.

Daily, we must work to change our mindsets & actions. The “us” in ourselves will decrease & the Jesus in us will increase. Thanking God for allowing us to be a continuous work in progress. He continues to mold us into the people He intends for us to be!

Daily Scriptures 6/9/11

Scripture: Job 8:21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. (NIV)

Nugget: I thank God for being able to give us joy in the midst of all situations. On the days where things are going tough, on the days were we feel we can’t make it, when people let us down, etc.---God can fill our mouths with laughter & our lips with shouts of joy.

This scripture reminds me that there’s always something to be joyful about & always something to laugh at or smile about. God is too good not to take care of us on the bad days as well as on the good ones!

Joy & laughter can change any so many things!

Quote: “Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.” –Hugh Sidey

Daily Scriptures 6/7/11

Scripture: Proverbs 26:12 There is more hope for fools than for people who think they are wise. (NLT)

Nugget: Have you ever met a person who thinks that he/she knows everything? Most times, these people are ones who you can’t tell anything to—they really feel that they know everything.

This scripture states that “there is more hope for fools” than for people who feel that they are so wise that they aren’t open for learning. These words are very powerful, as most times, one thinks a fool isn’t open to listening & learning. My guess, even foolish people turn aside from their ways from time-to-time to listen & learn. But a person who feels they know it all is like talking to a brick wall.

Daily, we should be open to learning; realizing there’s no way to know everything, but there is the opportunity to learn something new—this is truly being wise!

Daily Scriptures 6/6/11

Scripture: Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (NIV)

Nugget: I thank God for the wisdom that He’s given me. Many times in my life, I was so clueless about some things. I know the only way I obtained an understanding was through the grace of God!

In undergrad, at the advice of a friend, I began to pray over each test I took. This was the best advice I could’ve received. What a blessing it was to know I could go to the Lord in prayer about anything & everything.

There are many areas of our lives where we seek wisdom, knowledge, & understanding. In these same areas, we could be seeking the knowledge from ourselves, but in reality, the knowledge & understanding can only come from God. Seek Him & all that He can do through you.

Quote: “The true meaning of wisdom is having an intimate knowledge of God and the spiritual and metaphysical dimension that will help you see past the appearances of things to reveal a greater meaning behind it all.” -From illumen8.com

Daily Scriptures 6/3/11

Scripture: Proverbs 3:31 Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. (NIV)

Nugget: There have been times when many of us have felt that those who do evil get ahead; for example, many people lie, cheat, etc. to get to the next level in their careers & more. These people seemed to progress as others would be at a standstill.

One of things I’ve realized when coming across these people, is that what they receive is usually temporary as it didn’t come from God. What God gives is permanent & in His will. This is why it’s so important for us to stay focused on God & not people.

Keep doing good; keep doing what God has called you to do. There’s no need to adopt the ways of those who are evil. Living life God’s way is what He’s called us to do; being obedient in Him produces outcomes beyond what our eyes can see.

Quote: “It is true that He does sometimes require of us things that to others seem hard. But when the will is once surrendered, the revolutionized life plans become just the plans that are most pleasant, and the things that to others seem hard, are just the things that are easiest and most delightful. Do not let Satan deceive you into being afraid of God's plans for your life.” -R.A. Torrey

Daily Scriptures 6/2/11

Scripture: James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Nugget: Any gift from God is good and perfect. What God gives us, no man can match. Additionally, God is not one who changes in His giving.

This is why it’s so important for us to remember, anything that doesn’t meet the requirements of good, perfect, unchanging, etc., is most likely not from God. God doesn’t give us anything that will hurt or hinder us (just think of the things you’ve received that were outside of God’s will). What a difference it is to receive something from God!

One of my favorite sayings is, “What God has for me is for me.” No wonder why so many people use this saying---because what God gives is better than we can try to obtain for ourselves—good and perfect.

Quote: “The more we express our gratitude to God for our blessings, the more He will bring to our mind other blessings. The more we are aware of to be grateful for, the happier we become.” -Ezra Taft Benson

Daily Scriptures 6/1/11

Scripture: Psalm 9:1 I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. (NLT)

Nugget: Praise—we need to do more of this. Thanking God for all He’s done & all He’s about to do. We must share our testimonies. Our testimonies are blessings to others & truly show what God can do.

Instead of complaining about things, praise God for what you do have. Instead of keeping quiet, share what God has done for you. No one & nothing has treated us better than our Father!

Quote: "Our testimonies, like . . . trees, must be built on a sure foundation, deeply rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, so that when the winds and rains come into our lives, as they surely will, we will be strong enough to weather the storms that rage about us." –Sheldon F. Child
