Daily Scriptures 7/31/14

Scripture: Psalm 84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. (NIV)

Nugget: Many of us are going through & facing so much; each of us has our own battles daily. However, our strength comes from God; we just have to remember this as we face these battles---don’t try to handle things on our own, but give it all to God.

Whose strength are you depending on? Does your heart & mind automatically turn to God?

Quote: "The life of faith is a daily exploration of the constant and countless ways in which God's grace and love are experienced." -Eugene Peterson

Daily Scriptures 7/30/14

Scriptures: Acts 15:30-31 30So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. (NIV)

Nugget: In the scriptures preceding those mentioned above, the elders & apostles decided to send a letter to the brethren who were Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, & Cilicia. They sent the letter by way of their own men along with Paul & Barnabas. The letter was written & sent in order to encourage Gentile believers in these cities.

When those in Antioch received the letter, they were glad & rejoiced over its encouraging message. This letter & the encouragement it provided reminds me of the many times someone sent me an encouraging message “out-of-the-blue”, of the times when I received the perfect quote or scripture right on time, & even of the times I received a phone call when it was needed most.

God definitely knows when & who to send these messages through; just like the elders & apostles chose their own men, Paul, & Barnabas to deliver their message, God choses the right people as well.

Allow God to use you to encourage others as well as allow yourself to be open to receive the ones He’s sent to encourage you.

Quote: “Encouragement from any source is like a drop of rain upon a parched desert. Thanks to all the many others who rained on me when I needed it, and even when I foolishly thought I didn't. (acknowledgements in The P.U.R.E.)” –Claire Gillian

Daily Scriptures 7/29/14

Scripture: Psalm 108:4 For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

Nugget: God’s mercy---do we really think about & appreciate how endless it is? Every day, He grants us new grace & mercy that we take for granted. Do we know of anyone else who wipes our slates clean each day, forgetting about what we did the day before? There’s no one like our God.

In God’s infinite granting of mercy, which reaches above & beyond what we could ever imagine, we are blessed; we are renewed each day with new chances. So let go of yesterday, & walk into today with the clean slate of God.

Quote: ”God doesn't owe us anything---yet in His grace, He still gives us good things.” -Billy Graham

Daily Scriptures 7/28/14

Scriptures: Proverbs 2:1-2, 5-6 1My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— 5then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. 6For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (NIV)

Nugget: Wisdom & understanding are two things that many of us seek. At times, we search for these in books, websites, friends, & family; however, the one place that they’re most easily obtainable is with God. But do we take the time to spend with God, read His word, & listen to His voice? Do we seek the knowledge & answers that can only come from Him? I know I’m guilty of seeking these things from many other sources first; however, I’m learning that God should always be my first choice.

Take time today to pursue God in the things you are seeking answers for; the time you’d spend doing other things---seeking other people, ideas, etc., go to God for these. Grow your relationship with Him to find the knowledge, wisdom, & understanding that only He can provide.

Quote: “May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us, may the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us. Be always ours this day and for evermore.” - St. Patrick

Daily Scriptures 7/9/14

Scripture: Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. (NIV)

Nugget: Most times, we get so caught up in what other people say about us, what they think about us, what they say we should do, what they say would should’ve done, etc. However, how many times do we turn this around and ask “What does the Lord say?” People tend to put more value in what others say, rather than what God says. This truly shows where our minds can be because who knows us better than the one who formed us?

God’s word, direction, & guidance are complete; there should be no one or nothing we put over Him; of course, He can send wise counsel through others, but we must pray for discernment regarding this.

Remember: “What does the Lord say?” about you, your situation, your prayers, etc. This is what matters; He knows us better than anyone.

Quote: “The only opinion of you that is important, is God's. Focus on living your life, and let the opinions of others be what they are.” –Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/8/14

Scriptures: I Corinthians 13:5-7 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (NIV)

Nugget: Love, many of us say that we love someone unconditionally, but do we? Do we love them as Jesus loved us? Through the hard times, the growing pains, through faults, forgiveness, & more. Do we love them through disagreements, arguments, & fights? It’s amazing how our view on love can change when facing difficulties in these relationships we have with friends, family, & loved ones.

Love can be one of the most difficult, yet rewarding, experience of our lives. The love we have for others allows us to see & feel a glimpse of the love God has for us (in giving Jesus for our sins). Love is open, true, forgiving, hopeful, selfless, & trusting.

Don’t sit on the love you have for others; share this with them today. Life is too short do otherwise.

Quote: “This fire that we call Loving is too strong for human minds. But just right for human souls.” -Aberjhani
