As 2015 Winds Down......

As 2015 winds down, many of us do a bit of self-reflecting. You know what I’m referring to---thoughts on what we want for the New Year, things we can do differently, things we can change, & so forth. So what does this mean for the New Year? How do we plan to be different for this New Year; what many see as a new beginning?

In order to have change occur for the New Year, it begins with us. For instance, what are the things, people, stressors, etc. that we hold on to that aren’t doing us any good? One friend pointed out to me that we waste so much time devoting our thoughts & energy to things that don’t deserve them. It’s like we have a tight grip on what we need to let go of most, & who we need to let go of the most.

A favorite email of mine, from years ago, stated that people come into your life for a season, a reason, or a lifetime. However, we tend to hold people out of context. Just the action of making a seasonal person a lifetime person in your life can have a huge impact. It even impacts the person’s overall purpose for your life. For example, what if the person was placed in your life to teach you how to drive; this was their purpose & their only purpose. However, you end up taking this person with you to the car dealership to assist in purchasing your first car. Now you could be in over your head with a car you cannot afford, or really never intended to buy. As simplistic as it sounds, there’s truth in it. The only role the person had was to teach you to drive—that was it. Just imagine the impact this has on the areas in your life today (& even in the past) where people are held too long in your life.

As we continue to self-reflect, before & after the New Year, begin to make the changes you need to regarding who you have in your life, the role they play, the stressors you allow to impact you, etc. There are changes to be made, but they begin with a single step.

Until next time.

Blessings,

You're Important Too!

A very dear friend always reminds me that “even on the airplane, they tell you to put your own mask on first.” There’s such importance in this action because, before you can assist someone else, you have to make sure you’re okay. You have to be in a position to be able to give someone the assistance needed based upon the strength you have & the position that you’re in! Wow. So many times, many of us forget this---myself included.

I’m one who would basically do anything for someone before I do something for myself. However, during this year I’ve learned the importance of the action of putting my own mask on first. This could be as simple as a day of rest to reading a good book to watching a good movie. The thing is, to take the time out for self as this is much needed.

There’s no action that should be taken without making sure we’re in the right place first. Do what you have to do for you (by no means I mean this in a selfish way, but don’t leave yourself out of the equation). Do you, life is way too short to forget about one of the most important people in your life---YOU!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 11/17/15

Scripture: Philippians 2:18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. (NIV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like having tried & true support with you when going through life. You know the “ride or die” people who have your back no matter what. These people will cry with you, laugh with you, & also rejoice with you. Sometimes, these will be the people you talk to every day & sometimes the ones you talk to not as often, but no matter what they are there.

Thanking God for those who rejoice with us at all times.

Daily Scriptures 11/16/15

Scripture: Psalm 25:15 My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare. (NIV)

Nugget: Daily we’re reminded of focusing on God & His will for our lives. Sometimes, this is a minute-by-minute occurrence, especially with what each day brings. But our eyes, thoughts, & actions should always be on Him. He’s the one who can release us from anything & anyone that comes our way.

Take the time each day to reset & refocus---don’t let anything or anyone keep you from the release that only God can grant.

It All Starts With You!

One thing I’ve noticed is that many people believe that happiness & joy come from other people, their careers, things, etc. At the same time, these are the things that can bog us down & deter us from what’s important. The things that can overwhelm many, leaving them discouraged & defeated. But what I’ve learned in seeing, even at times living, in these circumstances, is that it all begins with you. Meaning, none of the aforementioned things or people can make you complete---it all starts with you & your relationship with God.

For example, remember that job or career you prayed for? The one that would get you “everything you wanted out of life.” When did it become you? When did you begin to work through your lunch hour, check your email during dinner, stay up at night working, or even work on vacation? At some point, balance is needed. It all starts with you!

Then there are times the person we’re in a relationship with begins to define us; some lose their identity in relationships. Now I’m not by any means saying that every relationship is this way, but you know if things have changed for you as an individual for the better or for the worse. There are the relationships that change us for the better & that are healthy, but there are the ones that have us going down the wrong path. For instance, the ones where we feel we aren’t complete if that person isn’t in our lives. The relationship should have two complete individuals coming together as one. It all starts with you!

Even the friendships & familyships that we have. Are they healthy & contributing to our lives? Or do we feel that they bog us down? Do you have the friend or family member that has been in the same situation year after year, day after day, with no growth? If so, the best thing you can do is pray for these people & continue to live your life. I’m not saying to not be there for them, but there’s only so much you can do before it begins to take a toll on you. You can control yourself & not them. It all starts with you!

We all have areas we must grow in to get to the next level God has for us. A lot of what we experience is preparation for this, but we must evaluate our circumstances, actions, & who we have around us to see if these are lining up with God & the plans He has for our lives. It all starts with you!!

What can you do today in God that will prepare you for all that He has in store for you?

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 11/2/15

Scripture: Psalm 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. (NKJV)

Nugget: Trusting God---it’s what we must do. A lot of times, it’s easier said than done, especially when our thoughts & actions get in the way. This is why we must renew our minds daily---sometimes this is a moment-by-moment occurrence.

Hope in God; trust in God. One thing about God that we can admit is that He is consistently consistent---He will not let us down.

Don’t be discouraged or worried; He’s always working.

Daily Scriptures 10/28/15

Scripture: Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. (NKJV)

Nugget: Hope--sometimes it’s what gets us through a new day, circumstance, or challenge. It’s the thing that we must remind ourselves to have. Without hope, where would we be?

One of the important things to remember about hope, as stated in this scripture, is to “recall” to our minds. Basically, bringing into remembrance how far God has brought us before & what He can do now. A lot of times, people will wallow in self-pity before focusing on the hope & faith in God that’s gotten them to where they are today.

What’s your focus? What are you recalling?

Quote: "Always remember, your focus determines your reality.” –George Lucas

Daily Scriptures 10/26/15

Scripture: John 4:19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

Nugget: The woman in this scripture refers to the Samaritan woman at the well who was taking to Jesus. In speaking with the woman, Jesus was telling her about her life, all that she was doing, & then some! Basically, Jesus left nothing out; yes, this lady realized that Jesus was a prophet, but that He was “The Prophet.”

In reading this, I began to think on how Jesus speaks to us today: via sermons, Bible verses, songs, & even confirmation from others. But how many times do we overlook His word & what He speaks & sends to us? Most times, we’re still searching & He’s already provided us the answer---it’s been right there all along.

Regardless of what the Samaritan woman had going on, when Jesus started to speak to her, she took heed & listened. He was revealing too much to her; there was no way for her to turn away. So where do we find Jesus speaking to us & in our lives that we’re choosing to ignore?

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today, I’m blessed to celebrate another year of life! I’m grateful to see another birthday. Sometimes, we don’t appreciate the gift of each day & what it entails. I remember hearing from my Ma & Grandparents that when I was born, the doctors said I wouldn’t make it. I was a preemie, weighing 3 pounds at birth. BUT GOD had other plans. I’m still here by His grace & mercy!

May we celebrate each day we have the blessing to see. God’s purpose & plan for us will shine through.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/20/15

Scripture: I Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are things in life that only the Holy Spirit will get us through. This is why it’s so important for us to stay encouraged & to also encourage each other. This includes reading God’s word, having a praise in our hearts, having that favorite song to lift our spirits, & having a church home.

As we grow in God, the Holy Spirit within us grows as well. It’s something we won’t be able to hide, but will be reflected inwardly & outwardly.

Daily Scriptures 10/19/15

Scripture: Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

Nugget: Many of us have heard the saying, “What would Jesus do?” To this, we can also add, “What does God’s word say?” In most instances, we’ll look at our circumstances, challenges, or struggles before we take the action to go to God’s word. Not initially realizing that the answers were already readily available!

God’s word is always right & whatever He chooses to do in our lives will be done in truth; His word is something we can always go to. At times, we must remind ourselves to seek Him & His word first, not as a last resort.

What questions are you seeking answers for in which He’s already provided responses for in His word?

Daily Scriptures 10/13/15

Scripture: Haggai 1:5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. (NIV)

Nugget: Sometimes we don’t realize that our delayed blessings could be tied up in our disobedience or actions. For example, we could be praying for a better job or career, but not submitting applications. Also, we could be seeking forgiveness, but we ourselves are unforgiving. Even at times, we wonder why others judge us, when we judge others. The list can go on and on.

But what happens when we consider our ways & seek God to evoke the change in us to open the doors for what could be delayed? The change that causes us to develop a new mindset & characteristics that transform us from the inside out--you know the heart & spirit change. I think we would be amazed at how many blessings are linked to us & our ways.

Give careful thought to your ways & what God reveals to you about yourself. There may be a few surprises & blessings there to unfold.

Daily Scriptures 10/12/15

Scripture: Psalm 17:5 My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you. (NLT)

Nugget: Have you ever felt that you’ve gotten off track with work, people, life, etc.? At times, I’m sure we all have. There could be a number of things coming at us & things that are making our plates full; before we realize it, we look around & wonder where the time went.

What’s so amazing about all of this is that God hasn’t moved & hasn’t gone anywhere. Even with our plates full, most times, we haven’t strayed far from Him because He’s always present with us. I’m not saying there haven’t been distractions, but majority of the time, our steps are guided back to God & following Him.

Regardless of what we have going on, God’s guidance & His path are within our reach; we mustn’t waver from following Him.

Daily Scriptures 10/9/15

Scripture: Matthew 13:58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (NKJV)

Nugget: There is so much tied to our faith; there are things that we’re praying about & for that possibly aren’t happening because of our lack of faith. Is there something you’re praying about that you keep wavering on? One day you want it, the next day you don’t? Is there a decision you want to make that you keep changing your mind about? All of this is tied to faith.

Sometimes the only faith we have is faith the size of a mustard seed, but this amount of faith is better than doubt & indecisiveness. We can’t let our blessings be tied up in unbelief or confusion.

Do a “faith check” to make sure you’re not holding up your blessings or breakthrough!

Daily Scriptures 10/8/15

Scripture: John 17:15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (NKJV)

Nugget: Jesus was talking to God in this verse & throughout this chapter about His disciples & believers. Jesus knew that part of His purpose was to instill God’s word in those around Him & to be an example of God on earth. Jesus gave the disciples & believers what was needed to continue on as He wouldn’t always be around.

Jesus knew that they couldn’t be taken out of the world or avoid what struggles/challenges/doubt/etc. to come, but His prayer was for protection---knowing that He’d provided what was needed in order to endure these things. It’s the same way with us---we’re given what we need daily to face what comes our way. God didn’t promise we wouldn’t face difficulties, but He did promise to take care of us & to be there every step of the way. This was even one of Jesus’ prayers!

Daily Scriptures 10/7/15

Scripture: Isaiah 55:2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. (NKJV)

Nugget: One thing is for certain, I know a lot of hardworking, dedicated people (myself included). We work to provide for ourselves & our families, as well as progression in the workforce & our careers. Truth be told, we spend more hours at work than we do at home. In most cases, those who work hard, play hard. I can say that I’m still working on balancing things out.

So how do we begin to balance it out? One step is to begin to know Who the source of our blessings are. God blessed us with the jobs, careers, homes, & life. If He’s investing in us, we must invest in our relationships with Him. If we invest completely in work/careers, are we taking the time to develop the relationships needed with God in order to feed our spiritual lives?

We mustn’t forget the good things that satisfy our souls as we work to provide for our daily lives. Balance is needed.

Quote: “Don’t let the abundance of God’s gifts cause you to forget Him.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 10/6/15

Scripture: Psalm 71:16 I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. (NKJV)

Nugget: I can say that I’ve had a very challenging few months; the things I’ve experienced were definitely unexpected. One thing I did know to do was continue to pray & to seek God through it all. We may never be able to explain some of the challenges we face, but we can share that we’ve made it through in God’s strength.

I’m continually learning about God’s goodness & grace. There’s nothing we experience that will not work out for our good. True enough, this may be difficult to see in the storms, but when they all clear away, we’re left standing with God by our sides. He was there & is there always.

Daily Scriptures 10/5/15

Scripture: Matthew 18:18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (NKJV)

Nugget: There are many things & people that we hold on to that we should let go of. These things & people most likely aren’t supposed to have ongoing roles in our lives. True, “letting go” is easier said than done, but once this occurs, it does feel like a weight has been lifted off of our shoulders.

This scripture reminds us that the things we “bind” to ourselves on earth will be bound to us in heaven, but the option to remove these things exists as well.

What extra weight (emotionally, physically, or spiritually) do you continue to carry with you? How can you begin to let go & more importantly, let God?

Quote: “Some of the very things that we hold on to the most are the very things that we need to let go of.” -Unknown

Change

There are many times we seek God & pray to Him regarding changing some things in our lives. Whether it is about a person or circumstance, the thing we want is change. However, are we ready to face the answer that God gives us? Most times, we aren’t ready for this.

God may lead us to walk away from certain friendships or relationships. He may lead us to another job, or more importantly, a career. There may be times where we need to sit alone in His presence---allowing Him to step in & to make a way out of no way.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Change is inevitable”, but I think I’m finally understanding this more & more as I continue through adulthood. There are some things I have no control over & things I will not be able to change, no matter what. But trusting in God & having faith in Him will help me to make it through these things & to grow in Him. Recently (& unfortunately), I had to make the decision to put my beloved cat to sleep; he had developed oral cancer. I wasn’t aware that this is something that happened to cats. After months of going to the veterinarian & even radiation treatment, he did not get better. I can say that I truly didn’t understand God’s reasons & purpose for this to happen in my cat’s life or in mine, but daily I’m getting better about the realization that I did all that I could & the rest was in God’s hands. Now as I continue on, I am going through the grieving process with God & friends/family by my side. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been very challenging & difficult, but healing comes day-by-day.

So what can we do as the changes of life come our way---trust & lean on God. No matter the changes we face, God is constant & He never changes. We must realize that the changes are what make us grow in faith & as individuals. As I always say, if change & growth didn’t occur, many of us would be riding bikes with our parents holding on to the back of them---training wheels & all!! We had to be open to them letting go, removing the training wheels, & letting us ride.

Live life. Allow God to guide you through the changes. Pray earnestly, get into His word. There’s nothing we can face that God won’t get us through.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Baggage

Pic from www.eurostar.com
How many of us have been at the airport baggage claim & picked up a bag that looked like ours, but in actuality, it wasn’t our bag? We grabbed the bag, checked the name tag, & realized it just wasn’t ours. Placing it back on the carousel for it to go around again, putting us in search of our luggage again.

This made me think about life & the baggage we have from experiences, relationships, work, changes, etc. There’s so much baggage that we carry around, at times, many of it, we have to go through the processes of letting it & people go. But how much of this baggage is actually ours?

Some carry baggage from childhood that continues to impact them today. However, is this their baggage to carry? For example, many have grown up with very strict parents, who had rules to follow, but their rules most likely are based upon their own upbringing or experiences. By no means am I saying to disobey parents, but sometimes the questions do arise regarding where the heavy hand originated from. Some parents feel that their kids will take the same path that they did, but the kids are on a different path regardless; thus enabling the kid to carry not only their own experiences, but the experiences of their parents---baggage that is not theirs.

We’ve all experienced heartbreak & heartache, at times, another resulted bag that is carried into future relationships---are these bags something that need to go into the next relationship? Now the new individual is carrying the bags of something that isn’t theirs, while the original individual is holding on to them as well.

These are only a few examples that come to mind, but bring to light the aspects of baggage that we carry. Maybe it’s time to look around & take inventory of the things that weigh us down? Did we pick up the wrong bag at the baggage claim? Did we happen to carry the bag of another individual too far before we realized how heavy it was or that it wasn’t ours? Do we need to remove some things from our own baggage to eliminate weight & to be within the allowable weight limit of the flight?

Whose baggage are you carrying?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/10/15

Scripture: Psalm 27:5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. (NKJV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like God’s protection when we’re experiencing the challenges of life. He provides a safe refuge for us & can set us apart from the things going on around us. “Setting us high upon a rock” includes giving us grace, mercy, & favor while enduring the challenges. This even includes removing certain things & people from our lives; or at times, giving us what it takes to endure & develop from these things.

During times such as these, are you allowing God to be your protection or are you doing things on your own?

Daily Scriptures 8/4/15

Scripture: II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. (NLT)

Nugget: There’s a light in each of us that God put there as a representation of Him---a reflection of Him & the love of Jesus. There’s this “something about” us that people should want to know. For example, dealing with challenging people on a daily basis. Someone may ask, “How do you not let that bother you?” Honestly, it has to be nothing but God’s hands in our lives. We show Him to others through our actions & reactions.

Be the light in the dark places; don’t add to the darkness. Be an example of God’s light here on Earth.

Daily Scriptures 7/31/15

Scripture: Psalm 67:7 God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him. (NKJV)

Nugget: God is blessing us every moment of every day! Even when things aren’t going “our way”, or as we’ve envisioned them to, He’s blessing us. There’s no need for us to worry, fret, or stress because God is able to go above & beyond the moments we’re experiencing. He sees & knows the final outcome.

God’s got us every step of the way!

Daily Scriptures 7/28/15

Scripture: II Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. (NIV)

Nugget: Paul was addressing the Thessalonians in this letter to them & all that they were enduring. It was a letter of encouragement for them to stay on the path that God had set & what He’d called them to do. Paul also wished them peace & reminded them that God would be with them.

Peace---something we all seek. At times we attempt to find it in everything but God. There’s nothing like having peace in God. Peace to be still in Him, peace to trust Him, & peace to know that everything will be okay according to His will & plan. God is with you at all times & in all circumstances. Additionally, His peace is present; you just have to step into it.

Daily Scriptures 7/27/15

Scripture: Psalm 66:19 But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. (NKJV)

Nugget: God hears us; every prayer, praise, & shout that we send up to Him. God’s ears are always open for us to turn to. We are each so distinct to God; He can tell the difference between us & anyone else.

There are times when God doesn’t answer us right away, but this doesn’t mean He’s absent. God has a way of working through the silence. With certainty, we must know that He hears our prayers & is working everything out for our good.

Daily Scriptures 7/24/15

Scripture: Psalm 102:27 But You are the same, And Your years will have no end. (NKJV)

Nugget: This verse reminds me of God’s consistency from generation to generation. My grandparents & great grandparents prayed to the same God I am praying to today. Not only this, God is the same God who those long before my grandparents prayed to as well.

God doesn’t change---there are so many things that He’s done before us that He has control over today. He can do it again. God has a proven track record!

Daily Scriptures 7/22/15

Scripture: Psalm 91:2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” (NKJV)

Nugget: Trust is one of the things that many of us say that we have until we’re put in a situation or circumstance that tests our trust; especially the situations that test our trust in God. Sometimes this trust in God entails us leaning on the people He’s placed in our lives to help us along the way.

In the situations or circumstances you’re facing, give it over to God. Allow Him to provide the answers you need, the refuge you’re seeking, & the people to assist you along the way. Don’t take on the battle that can only be fought with & through Him.

Daily Scriptures 7/21/15

Scripture: Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. (NKJV)

Nugget: One of the most difficult things for us to do is to wait. We wait in lines, we wait for vacations, we wait for the right time, & we definitely wait on the Lord for many things that we’re praying about/for. Basically, there’s no way to go through life without some form of waiting!

While waiting, we will face difficult circumstances & challenging people. There’s no doubt about it. However, we must focus on God & the end results & blessings He has in store. The benefit of waiting on God is to see what He was preparing for us & through us all along---we shall see it. Keep the faith!

Daily Scriptures 7/20/15

Scripture: Psalm 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Nugget: God is God. In looking back over our lives, we can say that He’s done great things for us, but not only this, He is great because of who He is. If God does nothing else, He’s already done enough.

Daily, we must take time to praise & thank God for who He is. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routines we have, but to stop & give God a “thank you” is a way to show our appreciation to Him.

Quote: “Learn to pray not because you need something, but because you ought to thank Him about everything.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/17/15

Scripture: John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (NKJV)

Nugget: The scriptures prior to this one indicate that Jesus’ mother, Mary, was at a wedding; Jesus & the disciples were invited as well. At some point, they ran out of wine at the wedding. Mary posed this to Jesus, & He responded, “What does your concern have to do with me?” However, He did take steps to alleviate the issue.

In order to help Jesus do this, Mary informed the servants to do whatever Jesus asked them to do. The end result was new pots of wine that were better than the first wine served.

What a reminder for us to do exactly what God tells us to do. If He gives us specific instructions/guidance about a thing, person, situation, work, etc., we should follow it. Of course this comes by listening, fasting, & prayer---building a relationship with Him in order to determine what He’s saying. By being so focused on God, this removes our own opinions & those of others. God will not lead us wrong.

Daily Scriptures 7/16/15

Scripture: James 5:12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment. (NKJV)

Nugget: Our word is our bond. We shouldn’t say one thing & end up doing another. There is power in the words we speak, the things we promise, & what we proclaim. Just think on the times you were disappointed or hurt by someone not coming through on his/her promises; we wouldn’t want to do the same thing to someone else.

There will be times when circumstances will impact our original promise/etc., however, these changes can be communicated as well. Life happens, things happen--but do a self-check in these instances to back your word up with your actions. These should line up.

Quote: “Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.” -Miguel Angel Ruiz

Daily Scriptures 7/15/15

Scripture: Genesis 31:49 Also Mizpah, because he said, “May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from another.” (NKJV)

Nugget: God has a way of bringing certain people into our lives. For some of them, when we originally meet, we may think that these people are to be a temporary presence in our lives, but God makes them permanent. On the other hand, there may be people who we thought would be permanent, but they had a temporary presence in our lives. God knows the purpose of who He brings to us.

For these lifetime people, we may not see them all the time, or even speak to them all the time, but we know that they are there and vice versa. Lifetime people are rare and hard to find--but God watches between us all while we’re apart. Life, distance, and time do not remove the blessing of these relationships/friendships.

Quotes: “Distance means nothing when someone means everything.” -Unknown

“Friendship isn’t about whom you’ve known the longest…it’s about who came, and never left your side….” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/14/15

Scripture: Job 23:14 For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such things are with Him. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are things in our lives that only God can do. No matter what plans we may have, if it’s not in God’s will or His plan for our lives, it’s not meant to be. The things He has appointed for us are in His hands & can only come through Him.

God will bring to pass what He has in store in His time; He will perform it---He hasn’t forgotten.

Daily Scriptures 7/13/15

Scripture: Job 22:28 What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways. (NIV)

Nugget: Clarity is a good thing; clarity in God & His ways is even better. Once we get a clear mind, through prayer & our relationship with God, our path becomes clearer. God has a way of showing us what to do & how to do it. Sometimes, clarity & direction come from Him, His word, a sermon, & even people He’s blessed us to have in our lives.

With God in it, His light will shine in you & through you. The path that you’re on will be lit by Him; there’s no way not to be going in the right direction with God. He will shine in all your ways. Just allow Him to be a part of them!

Quote: “Don’t shine so others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see Him.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/9/15

Scripture: Psalm 71:1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

Nugget: Trusting in God eliminates confusion. It’s not that confusion doesn’t exist in our lives, but we know that God isn’t in the midst of confusion. If confusion is brewing, seek God’s wisdom & direction through prayer. He will send confirmation.

Don’t let people or situations take your focus or trust off of God. Put your complete trust in Him in all situations & what you’re facing.

Daily Scriptures 7/8/15

Scripture: Psalm 90:4 A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. (NIV)

Nugget: God’s timing--it’s so different from our own! Many are praying for changes: new jobs, direction, goals, dreams, relationships, family, etc. Some things appear that they will never come together or happen. However, what may seem like a “long time” to us is just fleeting to God. The way He allows things to come together, most times, is vastly different from how we would do things.

As part of God’s process & timing, it’s possible that He’s removing people from your life, ending friendships or relationships, allowing new ones to start, or even creating that job you’ve been praying for. There’s so much that He’s working on when we feel like there’s “nothing happening”.

Keep praying & be encouraged. God is working it out according to His will & timing.

Quote: “Timing is everything. The things you are praying for will show up when you are most ready for them.” -from TrustGodBro

Daily Scriptures 7/7/15

Scripture: Psalm 61:1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. (NIV)

Nugget: In reading a Beth Moore devotional the other day, I came across a statement she made about believing in God versus believing God. I pondered this for a little bit; wasn’t this the same thing? Definitely not. There are many who believe in God, but do they/we/us also believe Him for what He says He’ll do in our lives, for us, & through us? For instance, many people “go to church”, but where are their hearts? It’s definitely easy for many to go through the motions, but are the motives clear?

When we seek God & cry out to Him, do we believe that He will listen to & adhere to our prayers, etc.? Or do we only believe that He’s there as we call? Yes, God is there whenever we call, but why call upon Him if we do not believe Him for what He said He will do?

Go beyond believing in God; develop a relationship & connection with Him to believe Him, all that He is, & all that He promises.

Quote: “I didn’t ask you to believe in Me. I asked you to believe Me.” God interrupted my comfortable pace with the theme of belief. Think of any stronghold you face. Does your stronghold require more power than it takes to raise the dead? I don’t think so. God can do it, fellow believer.” -Beth Moore

Daily Scriptures 7/6/15

Scripture: Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. (NIV)

Nugget: A number of us are experiencing various challenges in our lives. Although there’s a reason & purpose for everything, going through these things can test faith, relationships, & us as well. Sometimes, it’s God’s way of stretching us beyond what we believe---another way to develop something in us. At times, I wonder if it takes all of this to do so----the answer to this is probably “yes”.

One of the blessings in & during this time is that God is always there. Not only is He always there, He has the right people in our lives, at the right time, to help as well. God has a way of bringing us out on the other side better than before.

Quote: “Sometimes the end God has in mind is to exercise our faith, so He brings us into straitened circumstances so that we might look up to Him and see His deliverance.” -Jerry Bridges

For My Singletons, Pt. 22

As a Singleton, the most resounding advice that I've been given recently is to wait on the Lord.  To wait on Him in all things, especially concerning a relationship and what it entails.  To me, this is a reflection of Paul's words in Philippians 4:11:

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

I'm learning that many people aren't this: content. But also in this learning, I know that there's a reason & purpose for why God has each of us in the seasons we're in.  Most of this deals with His timing & His preparation of what's to come.  Sometimes we're just not ready yet, sometimes there's something (or some things) still left for us to learn, & other times, it's just as simple as Him preparing that other person as well.  Regardless, have we truly taken this time to develop our relationship with God, to listen to Him, to build upon His words?  The relationship with Him should be first & foremost.

Don't worry about what hasn't happened or what may happen.  Live today for what it is & grow in God.  In the meantime, He'll leave no stone unturned as part of His preparation & timing.  Also, we mustn't lose sight of "He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord." (Proverbs 18:22)  It isn't the other way around.  Ladies, he will find you.  Fellas, you will find her.

Allow God to work.  No one can do this better than He can!

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 6/22/15

Scripture: Psalm 119:28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (NIV)

Nugget: There are many things we experience in life that we believe that we can’t overcome. Disappointments, hurt, anger, & broken hearts are just to name a few. Mix these with our daily lives & at times, we can add in being overwhelmed, stressed, or some other emotion.

I came across the quote below the other day & it was/is a reminder to me about all the things we can do--the things that we can do in God. Yes, we’ll experience the aforementioned list from time-to-time, but we’ll also experience the strength & guidance from God to overcome these exact same things. There’s nothing we can’t do in Him & there’s nothing that He can’t do through us.

Daily Scriptures 6/1/15

Scriptures: Luke 24:36-38 36While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? (NIV)

Nugget: Although Jesus told the disciples everything that would happen to Him for the crucifixion, when He appeared to them afterwards, they still had doubts. They still were going over the events of what happened to Jesus; He’d even appeared to them before, broke bread with them, & vanished. The doubts continued to linger. In these scriptures Jesus reappeared to them & their reactions remained doubt & fear.

How many times has God revealed Himself to us through answered prayers, direction, sermons, encouragement, etc.? But we choose to ignore the answers & confirmations that He sent due to our own doubts & fears, especially when He provided the answers so plainly? Most times, He & the answers we seek are right there, but we’re blocking the answers due to our clouded vision or thoughts.

If Jesus asked you, “Why are you troubled & why do you have doubts?”, what would your response be?

Quote: “What is down inside you? What would you do if you had no fear? Whatever your answer is, that’s what fear is holding you back from.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 5/27/15

Scripture: I Timothy 5:17 The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me of my Grandpa who passed a few years ago (Oh, how I miss him!). In his actions, words, & during our weekly talks, he had a way of providing words of wisdom that have helped & continue to help me along my life’s journey.

The elders who’ve laid the foundation for us are truly worthy of honor, not only honor, but double honor. They’ve prayed, worked, preached, taught, & so much more; where would we be without what they’ve done?

Quote: “Life had engraved such beauty in those lines of age and wisdom.” -Rosslyn Elliot

Daily Scriptures 5/21/15

Scriptures: Philippians 1:25-26 25Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. 26And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me. (NLT)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to these, Paul mentions that his life would provide honor to God if Paul lived or died. He was doing what God called him to do. His “dilemma” was knowing he would be willing to die for Christ, but also willing to live in order to be an example of God on Earth for those around him. Paul knew he had much more work to do for God & would be fruitful in it.

There’s so much that God is doing in us & through us during our time here on Earth. We are examples of God’s love & can show our faith to others, helping them to grow. Let’s live to make our time count for God, others, & ourselves.

Quote: “A man ought to live so that everybody knows he’s a Christian.” -D.L. Moody

Daily Scriptures 5/19/15

Scripture: Jeremiah 29:10 This is what the LORD says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. (NLT)

Nugget: Sometimes God needs to separate us from things, people, & our surroundings in order for preparation to occur. As part of this preparation, He’s developing something in us, or even preparing the environment that we are to go into.

If God has removed someone or something from your life, accept it & go forward in God. Most likely, He’s working on that good thing He has promised for you; the thing(s) or people that cannot come until He does His part first.

Quote: "Trust in God. He may have something better in mind." -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 5/18/15

Scripture: Isaiah 60:22 The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen. (NLT)

Nugget: There are things in our lives that we try to rebuild ourselves; when in reality, only God can touch these things & restore them. This scripture mentions that God will take the smallest family & make them into a thousand, additionally, making the tiniest group a mighty nation. This is how our God works!

In His timing, God will rebuild you & restore you to where you’re supposed to be. What you’re going through is to develop something in you that is meant to prepare you. At the right time (His timing), God will make all things happen.

Remember, you’re in preparation for His plan & will to unfold in your life.

Flight

Recently, I took a quick vacation trip. Here are a few things I’d like to share from the start of my trip.
____

Today, as I sit on the plane ready for takeoff, I think about the pilot of the plane. How willing we passengers are to trust him & the skills of the flight crew to get us safely to our destination. As Pastor says, “Sit back & enjoy the ride.”

How easily we do this with someone we don’t know, someone who we trust the skills of. But how often do we do this with God, how often do we “sit back & enjoy the ride” with Him? It’s as if, at times, we put trust in those around us, things, & in ourselves before we put complete trust in God. Why is this?

To refocus & realize that God controls everything is what reminds us that everything is in Him & because of Him. Not the aforementioned things.

So as this flight takes off & I become airborne, my trust is not in the pilot (although I’m praying for him), I’ll sit back & enjoy the ride in God, who pilots the pilot & controls the flight.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Try vs. Will

As 2015 continues to fly by, I’m reflecting on the things I’m praying to accomplish & the steps I’m taking to get there. I do realize that things won’t happen overnight, but I’m grateful for the progress I’ve made.

Recently, I became a part of this training class at work. One of the things that the trainer highlights is not saying “try to” or “trying to”. Most times when we say we’ll “try to” do something, it doesn’t happen. It’s a safe place to put ourselves, sort of like saying “may be”. With this being said, I’ve been focusing on “I will” do this or “I’m going to”, versus saying “try to”. It does make a big difference because it’s a way of holding myself accountable.

As this year continues to fly by, what are the things you’ve been “trying to” do? This could be anything from your dreams or goals, to cleaning the garage, to starting a workout program, to catching up with that friend or family member, etc. What are the steps you can take to hold yourself accountable to make these things happen?

Are you trying to do these things or will you do these things?

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 4/13/15

Scripture: Luke 11:28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (NIV)

Nugget: In this scripture, Jesus was providing a response to a woman’s praise indicated in the scripture before. He was reminding the woman about those who are blessed---the ones who hear God’s word & obey it.

Hearing & obeying God’s word is a daily walk for us. There are many days in which I pray for my way & will to decrease & for God’s to increase. There are many times where I can get in God’s way. As long as I’m following Him, & remind myself that He’s in control, I can get back on track.

God isn’t asking us to be perfect, but to follow Him. Even if this is something we have to remind ourselves daily, we’re continuing to grow in Him & through Him.

Quote: “God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.” -Jim Elliot

Daily Scriptures 4/6/15

Scripture: Hebrews 10:32 Remember those days in the past when you first learned the truth. You had a hard struggle with many sufferings, but you continued strong. (NCV)

Nugget: For many of us, our earlier days of walking with God were full of faith & confidence in what God could do. We were new in faith, wide-eyed & saw things wide-opened. Many times, we thought that giving our lives to God removed a lot of the struggle. However, most of our challenges came after our walk with Him began, but in spite of this, we continued to hold strong in God & what He called us to do.

In looking back at our pasts, we mustn’t look back to bring up tough memories or to dwell there, but we must look back to see how far God has brought us & to remember that we made it through. We are so much stronger than we give ourselves credit for; we are especially strong in God.

Continue strong; there’s nothing we can’t do without Him. Our strength & growth are in God.

Quote: “Your faith will not fail while God sustains it; you are not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold you.” -JJ Packer

Praise Song: "No Greater Love"

Happy Resurrection Day!!  We are truly blessed that God gave His only Son for us.  What greater love than the love of Jesus?!  May we never forget the ultimate sacrifice, but also remember there's no love like the Lord has for us.

The Praise Song I'm sharing this week is "No Greater Love" by the Georgia Mass Choir.  Enjoy!

Daily Scriptures 4/3/15

Scripture: Mark 14:50 Then they all forsook Him and fled. (NKJV)

Nugget: When the high priest & the multitude came to take Jesus for the crucifixion, Judas had just betrayed Him. Additionally, there were many who were with Jesus who forsook Him & just left. It’s amazing that Jesus was abandoned by those who walked with Him, who He loved, & those whom He did so many things for. He would’ve stood by them until the end.

This made me reflect on the relationships & friendships that I have; those people & connections that are so important to me. We’ve all experienced challenges & struggles in our lives, but there’s nothing like the support of a strong foundation to help us through. True enough, these relationships may experience ups & downs, but no matter what, we know these people will be there for us--these are the ones we must hold on to.

Even though Jesus had people abandon Him, He had those who came back (His mother, Mary, & Mary Magdalene). As with Jesus, those who are a part of our foundation will always come back & remain.

Quote: “The best relationships in our lives are the best not because they have been the happiest ones, they are that way because they have stayed strong through the most tormentful of storms.” -Pandora Poikilos

Daily Scriptures 4/1/15

Scripture: Psalm 126:2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” (NKJV)

Nugget: Laughter--the cure for many things. It’s a way to release things that can be heavy on our hearts. It’s also a way for us to catch up with family & close friends; just think on the times when you’ve caught up with a longtime friend & the joy it brings--there are some people who make us smile no matter what.

See laughter & smiling as ways of praising God; these are smiles in your heart. Definitely another way to show God’s blessings & that He does great things for us.

Quote: “I think one of my favorite feelings is laughing with someone and realizing half way through how much you enjoy them and their existence.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/30/15

Scripture: Proverbs 1:33 But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm. (NIV)

Nugget: There are many heartaches & pains we could avoid, or could’ve avoided, if we took the time to listen & to seek God. These are the lessons that came with being hard-headed or stubborn. Of course there are things that we could only learn by going through them, but most times, these instances included a “warning” that we chose to ignore.

God’s intent is to protect us & to keep us safe. Those things that you’re seeking from Him that He hasn’t given you is His way of protecting you, or preparing you. God’s ways & timing are always right.

Quote: “Dear past, thank you for your lessons. Dear future, I’m ready. Dear God, thank you for another chance.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/25/15

Scriptures: John 15:13&15 13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. (NIV)

Nugget: I’ve heard the saying, “Friends are the family you choose for yourself”, but I believe that God does the choosing. There are many people who’ve crossed our paths in life, but only a few we can call true friends. The people who will be there no matter what & through thick & thin; the ones who take the good with the bad, while watching your growth through it all.

Jesus mentions in these scriptures that there’s no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend & that He no longer called people servants, but friends. What an important reminder of the role of friendship in our lives & those who love us.

Daily Scriptures 3/24/15

Scripture: Jeremiah 17:5 This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.” (NIV)

Nugget: There are those who put their trust in things other than God (for example: jobs, other people, themselves, etc.). I’ve found that trust in anything or anyone other than God is temporary. People leave, jobs can end, & we can even let ourselves down, but God never leaves & can be trusted at all times.

Having strength from God & faith from Him are the best things to have in life; obtain these things from no one or nothing else.

Daily Scriptures 3/12/15

Scripture: Jeremiah 2:22 For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, Yet your iniquity is marked before Me,” says the Lord GOD. (NKJV)

Nugget: There’s nothing we do, or have done, that’s hidden from God. He knows all about us & the struggles we have. There are times that we could hide this from others, but not God. It’s so important that we continue to grow in Him & our relationship with Him. He knows us better than anyone.

Although our iniquities are marked before God, He knows what it takes for us to develop into who He’s called us to be. Markings & all, He loves us.

Daily Scriptures 3/9/15

Scripture: Zechariah 9:12 Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare That I will restore double to you. (NKJV)

Nugget: Restoration--many of us need this with the busyness of life, job demands, & family obligations. Sometimes, it's difficult to slow down & rest, just to be still in the moment & in God. But just as God created the things He’s blessed us with, He desires for us to rest as well.

This scripture mentions that God “will restore double to” us. How great is our God! If we take the time to rest & get rejuvenated, we won’t miss what we’re taking the time away from because God gives it back to us twofold. So why not rest, regroup, & get rejuvenated in Him?

Quote: “Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” -Eleanor Brownn

Daily Scriptures 3/5/15

Scripture: Proverbs 8:8 My advice is wholesome. There is nothing devious or crooked in it. (NLT)

Nugget: It’s always a great gift to have people in your life who provide wise & clear advice no matter the situation you’re facing. These are the people you go to for the truth, regardless if the advice is what you want to hear or if it’s tough love. This advice & wisdom comes from those who give it out of love & God’s guidance.

What an important reminder regarding who we surround ourselves with; a strong support system is always a must.

Daily Scriptures 3/3/15

Scripture: Romans 9:18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. (NIV)

Nugget: God’s mercy---He grants it to us daily. He gives it to us according to His will. Most times, we probably don’t recognize it until after something happens---a challenge, an experience, etc. But God’s mercy was there all along.

Just as He sees fit to grant mercy to us, there could be times when mercy isn’t given so freely. Maybe during these times there is a lesson for us to learn, growth to occur, or even God allowing us to decrease while He increases in our situation.

Mercy & grace are extensions of God’s love; thanking Him for these gifts.

Daily Scriptures 3/2/15

Scripture: Malachi 3:6 “I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. (NIV)

Nugget: God is constant & consistent; He’s the one aspect of our lives that remains continuous. What God has done, & continues to do, spans from generation to generation. What God has done for our ancestors, He continues to do for us. Because of the foundation laid by them decades ago, many of us experience blessings now.

When in doubt, always lean on our unchanging, faithful God.

Life Is Beautiful!!

“Life is beautiful!”, such a short statement with so much impact. Do we really realize how beautiful this journey is? How beautiful the gift of each moment is? I know I’ve taken it for granted many times.

We can allow each day to slip away without thinking about the gifts, people, & moments that have impacted us in so many ways. It’s so easy to get caught up in the stressors, the stresses, & honestly, the things we have to do to make it through each day, that before we know it, the day is over & has completely passed us by!

Don’t let today slip by without focusing on the beauty in it & the beauty of it. It’s too precious to ignore.

Until next time.

Blessings,

Daily Scriptures 2/24/15

Scriptures: Psalm 19:7-8 7The teachings of the LORD are perfect; they give new strength. The rules of the LORD can be trusted; they make plain people wise. 8The orders of the LORD are right; they make people happy. The commands of the LORD are pure; they light up the way. (NCV)

Nugget: Anything from the Lord is solid & unmovable. From His teachings, rules, orders, & commands, they all have an outcome that is good for us. They are a demonstration of His love. There’s nothing God is doing, has done, or will do that doesn’t have some blessing for us.

These scriptures also indicate the results of God’s hands: strength, perfection, wisdom, happiness, & light. Who else can give us all of these things as a result of our experiences with them?! Even if the journey can be a rollercoaster at times, once everything settles, the end results are everything God intended them to be.

Quote: “Have faith, keep praying, and be thankful! Remember: God’s answers are wiser than your prayers.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 2/20/15

Scripture: Psalm 66:5 Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men. (NKJV)

Nugget: When we opened our eyes this morning, got up, & were clothed in our right mind (as my Grandparents would say), we were already blessed. Sometimes we take arising every morning for granted, but there was so much that occurred to get us there. God kept us through the night, kept our homes safe, kept us breathing, & so much more. These are testaments to His goodness.

God’s works come in many forms; we just have to pause & recognize them. He is awesome in all that He does for us. Even if He does nothing else for us today, He’s already done more than enough.

Daily Scriptures 2/19/15

Scriptures: Matthew 13:3-8 3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. (NIV)

Nugget: Jesus used various parables to explain things to people. In this parable, he gave an example of seeds being provided & what was done with them. Some of the seeds were scattered, others landed in rocky places, some fell in thorns, & others landed on good soil.

What an example to explain what many are doing on a daily basis. Are we using the gifts, talents, & blessings that God has given us or are we letting them fall by the wayside? Could there be seeds that we are giving away, or even letting slip away?

A friend posed a question to us the other day, “Where are you going?” The question was to allow us to refocus on what is important in the midst of running throughout our daily lives.

This question brought another question to mind, not only where are we going, but “What are we doing with what God has provided to us; are we planting on solid ground?”

Be You!

One of the toughest & best things I’ve learned over this past year is that we can be the hardest on ourselves. So many times we wish “we could do this better” or we “wish we were that/this way”, but in reality, we are not giving ourselves enough credit. Really, we aren’t giving God enough credit. He made us exactly as we are to be!

Don’t get me wrong, there are growing pains & things we must experience in life to continue to develop into everything God has called on our lives, but we mustn’t underestimate the experiences we’ve had to get to where we are now.

Give yourself a pat on the back, keep praying, & growing!

Daily Scriptures 2/17/15

Scripture: Numbers 11:23 The LORD answered Moses, “Is the LORD’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.” (NIV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, Moses posed many doubtful questions to God regarding his role in leading the people out of Egypt on their journey to the Promised Land. Not only was Moses posing his own doubtful questions, the people were continually questioning him & complaining along the way.

Although we were not on that particular journey, we are all on journeys in which we’ve posed doubtful questions to God, possibly complaining along the way. As God responded to Moses, “Now you will see….what I say….will come true….” God reminded Moses that it didn’t matter what the circumstances “said”, what Moses himself or the people were saying, but what He was saying----His arm & vision reach beyond our limitations. That’s God!

Praise Song: "It's Working"

My Pastor recently finished a great series for the New Year, "A Season of Change".  As always, God's word comes right on time.

We've all experienced seasons in which we feel like nothing is happening, but then we have seasons of overflow at the right time.  As seasons change, the seasons of our lives change as well.

No matter what season we're in, God is always in the blessing business!

May you be blessed by William Murphy's "It's Working".

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/16/15

Scriptures: Psalm 142:1-2 1I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy. 2I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. (NIV)

Nugget: There are things that we’re experiencing & going through that only God can help us with; He’s the way out of our troubles. Too many times we go to others first, but God is always there, readily available.

Take your prayers, struggles, complaints, & troubles to God---pour these things out to Him & release them. He’a always working it out for our good; we just have to believe & trust that He will.

Daily Scriptures 2/5/15

Scripture: Psalm 143:4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart within me is distressed. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of us have felt the stressors of life, work, & other elements that are occurring, or have occurred, in our lives. The feelings of being bogged down & stressed can overcome us, impacting us in so many ways.

So what does one do when this happens? As simple as it sounds, I’ve learned to take a step back & take a breather---releasing things & thoughts to God. He can handle things better than anyone & knows how to lead us to peace.

Daily Scriptures 2/4/15

Scriptures: Psalm 37:30-31 30The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just. 31The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip. (NIV)

Nugget: Have you ever been around someone who just says anything; says anything without rhyme or reason? There’s really no thought behind it. Well, I hope many of us aren’t that way! I do my best to offer others words of wisdom & pray about having meaning & justification behind it; this attached with care & concern usually leads them (& myself) in the right direction.

I’ve been told that I’m a “heart” person (can’t argue this one!); anything I do is attached to this. I pray that God’s law & word are always reflected in my actions. With Him in my heart, I’ll always have a strong foundation.

Daily Scriptures 2/3/15

Scripture: Philippians 2:14 Do all things without complaining and disputing (NKJV)

Nugget: Have you ever been around a complaining person? Have you ever been the complaining person? The ones, who no matter what is going on, can say nothing good or even release a word of praise?

Each day challenge yourself to complain less & praise more. There are so many people who would love to be in our shoes, yet we can go each day & not fully appreciate our blessings.

Daily Scriptures 2/2/15

Scripture: Proverbs 24:29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.” (NIV)

Nugget: One of the most common reactions to when someone has done wrong to us is to retaliate in the same manner. A person would likely want the other individual to have the same hurt, pain, etc. inflicted upon the individual as well. This reaction can take both an emotional & physical toll on all involved.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right” came to mind when reading this scripture. It’s something wise adults would tell many of us growing up. Basically, do we need to go to that level too?  Let’s work daily not to “do to others what they have done to us”; there are other positive things & reactions we can do instead.

Quote: “Blowing out someone else’s candle doesn’t make yours shine brighter.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 1/30/15

Scriptures: Psalm 30:8-10 8To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: 9“What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? 10Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help.” (NIV)

Nugget: Silence---it’s the thing that can get us nowhere at times; especially during the times when we know we should take action & speak up. So why be silent with God during the times when He’s needed most? God is an instant prayer away & many times, we go to Him last or we feel that we can’t seek Him in everything.

God is faithful & merciful; His mercy upon us is renewed daily (thank goodness!). Continue to praise God, pray to Him, & know that He’s an always present help.

Quote: “God’s mercies are new every morning. Receive them.” Unknown

Daily Scriptures 1/29/15

Scriptures: Matthew 9:20-22 20And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. 21For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. (NKJV)

Nugget: Faith--we all have a measure of it. Some circumstances & experiences have put us further along in our faith journey than others, but it’s a continuous process. In these scriptures, the woman with the issue of blood knew that her answer came from Jesus---He was the only one who could heal her. She stepped out on faith & touched the hem of His garment & was healed.

How close are we to the hem of Jesus’ garment, but we aren’t taking that step of faith towards Him? Are we that close & missing the opportunity? Don’t be so close to your miracle or breakthrough & leave it there. All it takes is the action faith to believe what Jesus can do.

Daily Scriptures 1/28/15

Scripture: Romans 8:33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. (NKJV)

Nugget: We’ve all lived long enough to know that people will talk about us, judge us, & even try to condemn us at times. But we also know that we have a God who has the role of protecting us from such things. God is the only one who can justify & keeps a protective hand over His children.

So who are we to judge anyone else, or to even be judged for that matter? Leave it in God’s hands; He can handle it.

Daily Scriptures 1/27/15

Scripture: Proverbs 18:14 The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit? (NLT)

Nugget: Most times if we’re dealing with a cold or other sickness, there’s something we can take to alleviate them. But when facing a crushed or discouraged spirit, recovery doesn’t come as quickly or as easily.

There are things, people, & occurrences that will come our way, challenging us to the core of our spirit---even crushing it at times. However, our strength & recovery from these instances lie in our relationship with God & continual prayer.

We don’t have the ability to avoid challenges to our spirit & hearts, but we do have the One who can help us endure & prosper during these times.

Daily Scriptures 1/26/15

Scripture: Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. (NKJV)

Nugget: How many times have we thought or said to God, “Where are you?”, believing that He couldn’t hear our prayers, cries, or words to Him? Most times, in these instances, it was probably me who was blocking God & His voice; this blocking probably came from something I was doing (or shouldn’t have been doing!) which caused me to separate from God.

It’s not necessarily that God is hidden from us, as He’s always there, but there are things we do that can allow us not to see Him--completely blocking our view of Him. How many times have we missed something or someone who was right in front of our faces due to our one-dimensional view of things? In this same manner, what we’re doing can block our view of God & to Him.

Don’t allow anyone (including yourself) or anything to hinder your view of God & your relationship with Him.

Daily Scriptures 1/20/15

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:6 A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away (NKJV)

Nugget: This book of Ecclesiastes reminds us that there’s a time for everything. Such are the seasons we face in life; there comes a time we have to reevaluate the people & things in our lives.

As we are more than half way through this first month of 2015, we must continue to examine who & what we allow to go with us on our life’s journey. There are things & people that we’ll gain & lose, but we’ll also keep the good ones & remove the bad. It’s a cycle that allows us to move forward.

God knows the times & seasons that we’re experiencing; He knows exactly what & who are needed as part of our journey. Thanking God for His timing.

Daily Scriptures 1/13/15

Scripture: Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. (NKJV)

Nugget: “God is….” We can finish this phrase with so many words! The list could continue on until our last day on Earth. That’s the kind of God we have & serve.

In looking at the word infinite, this scripture uses it to reference God’s understanding. No one understands us better than God & no one can be as understanding as Him. Just think on the number of times we go to Him with our concerns, worries, etc. He never gets tired & is always there--He’s that great & powerful.

The infinity of God is never ending--that’s true love.

Quote: “My finite mind can never understand my infinite God.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 1/12/15

Scriptures: Psalm 71:20-21 20You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. 21You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. (NLT)

Nugget: We will definitely experience challenges & hardships in life; there’s no way to go through life without them. Some of these will be brought upon by our own actions & other times, God will allow us to go through things in order to develop something in us--strength, faith, trust, etc. But once these challenges end, we most times recognize the purpose for them.

Don’t see your challenges & hardships as things you won’t be able to overcome; see them as God’s way of developing something in you & using these as a way to restore you to even greater things to come. Sometimes we can’t make it to the next level without conquering where we are now.

Daily Scriptures 1/9/15

Scripture: Proverbs 8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. (NKJV)

Nugget: This scripture is referring to wisdom. It reminds me to reflect on the benefits of receiving wisdom & wise counsel; basically, not receiving advice or feedback from those who would guide me in the wrong direction.

In having wisdom, & in seeking it, we have understanding, strength, & direction. Through prayer & connecting with God, He will guide us to the right scripture, person, & even experiences that allow us to grow.

Thanking God for all that He’s taught me through His word, life, & people.

Daily Scriptures 1/7/15

Scripture: Psalm 131:1 LORD, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. (NLT)

Nugget: There are just some things that we’ll never understand or comprehend that God is doing. We may wonder “why” or “how” these things will be or why they were done, but only God will know. This has been something that I’ve been learning over time.

Pride will keep us from realizing God’s hands in certain situations & occurrences. I’m doing better about removing myself from the equation; one of my sayings this year is to “stay in my lane”, which has kept me in check!

What things matters are you concerning yourself with that only God can handle? What haven’t you completely let go of? God is already there, let it go to Him.

Quote: “But the attitude of faith is to let go, and become open to truth, whatever it might turn out to be.” -Alan Watts

Daily Scriptures 1/6/15

Scripture: Lamentations 3:39 Why should a living man complain, A man for the punishment of his sins? (NKJV)

Nugget: None of us are perfect, so there will be things that we do wrong; sometimes, these things will not be on purpose & other times they will be. Regardless, there will be times that we face the consequences of our actions. Most times, these are hard pills to swallow.

We do our best to live according to God’s will; in the instances where we get off track, it’s a blessing to know that He’s there for us--forgiving & allowing us to ask for this forgiveness. This doesn’t mean we won’t face things, but that His mercy & grace exist.

Daily Scriptures 1/5/15

Scriptures: Psalm 139:1-3 1O LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. (NKJV)

Nugget: We’ve all had the thought, “No one understands me”, at some point in our lives. We felt like people just didn’t “get” us; the understanding wasn’t there. However, there is One who not only “gets” us, but created us & knows us better than anyone. This is our Lord.

God created us just as He wanted us to be, so there is not one thing about us that is an error. There may be things we need to experience in order to develop certain characteristics & growth, but God is acquainted with our paths to get there.

It’s great to know someone who understands us so well!

Quote: “Our heavenly Father understands our disappointment, suffering, pain, fear, and doubt. Happy New Year!!!

Happy 2015!! It’s a new year with new beginnings. We are blessed to live to see another day, let alone another year.

I spent part of yesterday & this morning reflecting on 2014 & all that it brought to me; pains, aches, tears, but in the midst of these were also blessings, new mercies, growth, renewed friendships & relationships, & so much more. I’m grateful for each part of my journey.

I went through my Blessing Jar for 2014! It was full of so many things: prayers, promotions, daily life occurrences, peace, etc. What a reminder for me to count each day as a gift & all that God has done for me & continues to do.

My anchor verses for 2015 are:

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” -Hebrews 11:1 NIV

“5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” -Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

These two verses have been speaking to me throughout the past year & I even found them on a whatnot at the Christian Bookstore (definitely confirmation):

This year will be about faith & continually walking with God. He’s working no matter what & I look forward to what He has in store for me as I begin Page 1 of 365!! (The first day of the 365 days of 2015)

Until next time.

Blessings,
