Scriptures: I Samuel 17:4 & 48-49 4Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! 48As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. 49Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground. (NLT)

Nugget: Goliath was a giant that no one could defeat; he was a 9-foot tall, champion that everyone was afraid of. The people were looking for someone to defeat him. In comes David, a shepherd’s boy with a sling shot & a stone. David had the heart, faith, & courage to fight & defeat Goliath.

That’s the way we should be with the giants in our lives. Sometimes, we let the obstacles, challenges, & “Goliaths” of our lives beat us down, get us down, & defeat us. But we need the same faith as David----he faced a 9-feet tall giant, that no one else could defeat, with his faith in God---knowing that everything would be okay.

What Goliaths are you giving power to? Where’s your faith, sling shot, & stone!!??

Scripture: James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (NIV)

Nugget: We’ve all heard the saying, “We have not because we ask not.” So why shouldn’t this include asking for wisdom as well?

There are many things we don’t understand, many things we don’t know---sometimes, we can only receive understanding & knowledge by praying for it. For example, during my undergraduate studies, a friend gave me the best advice as a college student: “To pray before each & every test. Ask God for the knowledge & favor to pass the test.” Of course I had to do my part & prepare for the test, but God was with me through it all.

I feel that I learn something new each day; God is good for the promises He makes----let us pray for wisdom & knowledge today. Nothing is too big for our God; all we must do is ask & believe.

Next Movie: "Good Deeds"

Tyler Perry has a new film coming out soon (February 24th); it’s entitled “Good Deeds”. From the trailer, it appears to be a reminder to enjoy life & to not get caught up in going through the everyday routines we may have. I’m learning more & more about this lesson everyday! Life is so short & we must enjoy every moment we can; of course, we must work, but God wants us to enjoy the fruit of our labor. Be open to the changes that God brings your way!

Scriptures: Ruth 2:2-3&5 2And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.” Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek. 5Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young woman belong to?” (NIV)

Nugget: Many of us have heard the story of Ruth & Boaz, however, no matter how many times we hear it, it appears that we miss something. Most times, we hear of “Ruth finding her Boaz”. In reality, Boaz found his Ruth.

Ruth was busy working in the fields, picking up leftover grain for her & Naomi to eat. In the meantime, Boaz observed her from far off & he asked his foreman about Ruth. He asked about her, not the other way around.

We, as women, must remember the order of things---if a man is interested in you, he will inquire about you. There’s no need to do the chasing, inquiring, etc. When a man sees someone he’s interested in, he will ask & do the work to get to know the person & to make his interest known.

Remember to keep things in order---Boaz found his Ruth!

Scripture: Psalm 26:8 LORD, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells. (NIV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like being in God’s house & in His presence. Having a place to worship & praise the Lord is essential. I just love going to church, fellowshipping with my church family, & praising God. This brings the feeling of praise to another level!!

It’s important for us to have a place to worship & to fellowship with other Christians. We all need each other in this Christian walk & in life. If you have a church home, pray & thank God for it--it’s truly a blessing. If you do not have a church home, pray & seek God’s guidance as you search & choose one. If you have a friend who you know is looking for a church home, extend an invitation to your church.

Let’s all be in God’s presence in the place where His “glory dwells”!

Trust & Faith

A friend recently asked me to provide feedback on the words trust & faith. To me, these words go hand-in-hand when speaking of my relationship with God. However, I decided to delve into this a little more.

When researching these words, on Merriam-Webster Online, I found the following meanings:

• Trust: a : assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b : one in which confidence is placed

• Faith: a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust

Faith is the complete trust in the confidence we’ve placed in God (faith); so how can we have one without the other? To me, it’s not possible. The definition of faith includes trust!

Many times we allow our faith to waver, but in other words, our trust is changing---most times, this trust is placed in the wrong things or people. For instance, we get up each morning (by God’s grace), go on our way, & for most of us go into jobs. All of these things are possible because of our trust in God, which in turn, is our faith in action. However, when things overwhelm us, our trust shifts & wavers; it can go from God to our stresses at work to the people around us to more. We must stay focused!!

Our faith is what we have to get us from day to day---knowing that God has it all under control. I must admit, the human-side of us does get in the way, but don’t let it stay in the way.

Don’t allow your faith to waver because your trust is shifting, wavering, etc. At these times, the opportunity presents itself for you (& I) to do an evaluation regarding who our complete trust is in.

Faith = Complete Trust. Trust = Confidence in God. Trust & Faith together is complete confidence in God.

Scripture: Proverbs 18:8 Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart. (NLT)

Nugget: Rumors & gossip usually go hand-in-hand. When a rumor begins to circulate, there’s gossip most likely involved. This scripture mentions that rumors “sink deep into one’s heart”, which is so very true.

Just reflect on the times when you listened to a rumor or when one was circulating about you---this can be very hurtful. Also, if you’re listening to & spreading rumors, these are words & actions that are getting into your spirit.

We should do our best to refrain from participating in any form of gossip; being on the receiving or giving end of this cycle isn’t good for anyone.

Daily Scriptures 1/10/12

Scripture: Judges 3:7 The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight. They forgot about the LORD their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles. (NLT)

Nugget: The Israelites turned away from God & began to worship idols instead of worshipping God. Their focus & praise completely changed. What they forgot was that God is a jealous God; nothing & no one should come before Him.

At times, we can be the same way---allowing our focus to change & letting things & people take precedence over God. For instance, watching TV, surfing the Internet, wasting time on unnecessary things, etc. instead of worshipping God & allowing our focus to be on Him & His will. True enough, we may not be worshipping idols as the Israelites did, but there are other things that can take on these forms.

Check yourself & see what your focus is on----is it on God or are other things & people getting in the way? Keep God first in all you do, don’t lose sight of who continues to bless us & to who our praises should to given to!

"The Game" Returns Tonight!!

My favorite show, "The Game", returns tonight for Season 5 (on BET). I've been a fan of the show since the first episode & was glad that it returned last season after many petitions, fans asking for the show to return, & more. As a football fan, it provides a look at the other side of football, what goes on off the field, & the drama behind it.

Scripture: Judges 2:10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. (NIV)

Nugget: Many of us have grandparents, mothers, fathers, aunts, etc. who have impacted our lives & our Christian walk. These people have taught us everything they know about the Lord; instilling in us the lessons they’ve learned in order for us to know all that God has done & all that He’s able to do.

However, there are many who do not take heed to the teachings & lessons of their ancestors; they walk away from these teachings, not knowing the true impact God has had & His will.

Don’t take for granted the generations of ancestors who’ve gone before us in the Christian walk; these individuals are some of our best sources of information in order to continue on our Christian journey. They laid the foundation in order for us to continue on.

My Anchor Verse

A fellow blogger, Beth, recently posted to her blog regarding having an anchor verse for 2012; the verse that will carry her through 2012. I've had a verse that has carried me through the past few years; I didn't know it was called an anchor verse. I've chosen my verse for this year!

To give a little background, the past year was a very challenging one for me; both professionally & personally. God truly taught me many lessons along the way! I can say that I’m doing my best to take heed to the lessons learned.

One lesson that has stood out the most for me is how precious life is & how each day is a gift---no matter what is going on, no matter how stressful things may get. The gift of each day is something that I cannot take for granted.

I made a vow to start each day of this year by saying, “Today is a good day; today is already a good day; & today is going to be a good day.” I want to call this into the atmosphere before I get out of bed & start any portion of my day! I’m calling things into existence.

With this being said, my anchor verse for this year is:

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” -Psalm 118:24 (KJV)

I am determined to see to see the good in each & every day that God allows me to live; I will thank Him for it. I will acknowledge my appreciation for it---knowing that God loves me enough, not only to give me Jesus, but to allow me to make an impact by seeing another day.

With this being said, I won’t let anyone or anything take my joy (praying hard on staying focused & centered in Him), because it’s so easy to let people & things take over.

I’ll end with a Christina Aguilera song that has impacted me (I know you may be thinking, where did that come from?), but the song is entitled, “Keep on Singin’ My Song”. The words are right on time! No matter what goes on, no matter what anyone says, I’m going to keep singing the song that God has put in me!!

Scripture: Psalm 26:12 My feet stand on level ground; in the great congregation I will praise the LORD. (NIV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like knowing that you know God is in control of everything; this is an example of standing firm in your faith in Him. Once this is realized, you’re definitely standing on level ground.

Standing on level ground means that, no matter what comes your way, your faith in God supersedes any situation you may face, your own thoughts & challenges, & more. And at all times, you’re praising God!

Don’t let your thoughts or challenges allow your feet to slip---stand on the level ground that is found in our Lord! There’s no better place to be.

Scripture: Amos 4:13 He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the LORD God Almighty is his name. (NIV)

Nugget: God is God, period. There’s no one & nothing like Him. In looking around us, daily, we can see all that God has created! There’s nothing we see that He didn’t create or give someone the ability & knowledge to create.

Don’t underestimate God’s presence & power in your life; at times, we may feel that He’s far away, but in reality, He’s closer than we think--He’s creating the winds, allowing the sun to set & to rise, answering prayers, etc. Our God is good & amazing!

Nugget: There’s power in everything we say! We must speak positivity into our lives & into those around us. There’s no reason that in each day, there’s not something we can be grateful for, blessed to have, or to say something positive about. Just waking up each day is a gift.

I challenge you today to speak positivity into your life, your situation, & into those around you! Don’t let life pass you by without focusing on the good that God has given you. Don’t be ensnared by your words; be encouraged by them!

Scripture: Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit for others will fall into it. Whoever tries to roll a boulder down on others will be crushed by it. (NCV)

Nugget: We’ve all heard the saying, “What goes around comes around.” This definitely relates to how we treat others & what we put out there regarding our actions & thoughts towards others.

Many people put a lot of energy into treating others badly & also trying to making things difficult for others; they spend so much time & energy trying to “get people back” for something or just disliking people in general. We’ve all had instances in which people have done various underhanded things to us. However, in these situations, these same people will set themselves up for a downfall; they end up trapped in their own actions & plans.

It’s so important for us to be mindful of how we treat others; even those who treat us badly. We must continue to pray about our actions, thoughts, & reactions; allowing God to be our guide.

Wishing you and yours a Happy & Blessed 2012!!

Each moment & day are gifts, make every one of them count this year! Don’t take anything with you into 2012 that you were to leave behind in 2011. Some people, things, feelings, etc. do not need to go with you into the new beginnings of 2012 & throughout the year. Let it all go!! Life is too precious to hold on to these things!

Thank God for all the lessons & blessings of 2011 (as my friend Ms. V.A. said) & know that there’s more to come in 2012. God has big plans in store; don’t miss out on anything! The lessons are always part of the process for God to get us to where & to who He wants us to be.

Remember the loved ones that were lost in 2011; they will be missed. Know that God knows His reasons for everything.

Merry Christmas!!!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy upcoming 2012!!

Let us remember the importance of today and all that it entails. We’re celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Let us also remember those who are less fortunate and those who are experiencing loss during these times. In watching the Weather Channel this morning, they were showing the stories of families who were affected by the wild fires in Texas this year; there was a little girl crying and telling her story of how she missed the toys that she lost---one in particular was her Barbie doll. In driving to church this morning, I saw a homeless man on the side of the road, going along his way. In watching CNN today, they were broadcasting news on churches in Nigeria that were being bombed while conducting their Christmas church services----there were lives lost.

It’s okay to appreciate the gifts and to give them, but let us not lose sight of God in every situation, in every loved one, & in the giving that we do. Jesus is the reason for the season; He’s in the midst of everything.

May we pray for each other today & always. We’re in this together!! Let us take nothing & no one for granted.

Scriptures: Ephesians 4:1-2 1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (NIV)

Nugget: Being a “prisoner” of the Lord is a calling that we should take seriously. Many of us are on the Christian walk, but do we have Christian actions that show our walk with God? (Reading our Bibles, praying for others, attending church, being an example of Jesus, etc.). Yes, it’s truly a calling!

We should also consider others in our walk & calling. Our attitudes & actions should be ones of a humble spirit, patience, & love---this is how we should be with each other.

Our walk should line up with God; our walk should demonstrate the calling He has bestowed upon us--let us be worthy in all that God has called us to do.

Scripture: Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. (NIV)

Nugget: God knows what we need; as our shepherd, God supplies these needs. There’s no reason for us to fret or to fear--He has it all under control.

In the midst of this Christmas season, keep in mind the differences between wants and needs. It’s so easy to get caught up in the spending, the rushing, & the wanting! Don’t overlook that God continues to provide our needs ALL the time; not just for a season.

Focus on the blessings that God has given you; don’t overlook the great gifts that exist every day. We are lacking nothing! Thanking God for all things!

Scripture: Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. (NIV)

Nugget: Sometimes we think that God has forgotten all about us. We believe that He doesn’t see our work, our diligence, our faith, love, etc. We feel that God is far away & not hearing us at all. This is a feeling that’s relatable to many.

However, we must realize that it’s God who made us--He knows our every step & our every step in the future. He makes no mistakes & knows the work we’re doing, both for Him & for others.

Do not grow faint in what God has called you to do; He’s with you every step of the way. “He will not forget your work & the love you have shown Him.”

Daily Scriptures 12/12/11

Scripture: Luke 1:28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (NIV)

Nugget: The angel, Gabriel, had come to Mary to give her the news that she would be Jesus’ mother. Before he gave Mary the news, Gabriel greeted her----“you who are highly favored.” Wow, what a greeting this was for Mary--in the next verse we learn that she was troubled overall by this initial greeting & meeting. However, Gabriel had come with the best news. Not only was she highly favored, God was with her, & Jesus was to be her son!

How many times have we not recognized the favor of God in our lives? Just look at Mary, her initial reaction was not what one would’ve expected. I believe that we can be the same way at times! We can have doubt, thinking “Why me, Lord?” But why not you? God is in the blessing business.

Recognize, acknowledge, & thank God for the favor He has placed on you & your life. Don’t walk around any other way---you are highly favored & God is with you!! Enough said!!

Getting Back on Track

Getting Back on Track......

Have you ever had one of those weeks that have turned into a month or so worth of “what is going on?” Well, I’ve felt this way lately. It seems as if I’m being challenged in a lot of ways. Don’t get me wrong, I know that God is in control & with these challenges comes lessons to be learned, but sometimes the process is really difficult!

God continues to remind me of the importance of balance in my life (I’m not saying that I’m passing all of the tests that are coming my way, but I’m learning the lessons within the tests!). I say that to say this---we must realize that we are a work in progress---God sees the final product in the midst of the storms we face. I’m glad that He truly sees it, because being in it, at times, is a difficult place to be.

I’m working to get back on track with my blogging :) Sorry about the lack of Daily Scriptures that haven’t been posted! I know that these are so important for me to share. I’m also working on getting back on track in other areas that I’ve put on the back burner. It’s so important not to lose sight of the gifts that God has given us---I truly feel that I’m sitting back on a few of mine.

With Christmas & the New Year approaching, for many of us, it’s a time of reflection, a time of new beginnings, a time with family & friends. During these times, ask God for direction as to what He wants for you to do in these new beginnings, with the New Year, & with the ones you love. Don’t lose sight of what’s important & all that He’s given you; use this time to reflect on His goodness & direction that only He can give.

I pray that I continue to stay focused on God & what He’s doing in my life. I want to stay on the track that He’s established for me. I pray that you’re doing the same. Don’t let the challenges of life get you down, because no one & nothing has the power that our God has.

Yes, getting back on track may be difficult, but the important thing is knowing that it’s possible.

Scripture: Romans 2:1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. (NIV)

Nugget: Sometimes it’s so easy for us to judge others; saying what we’ll “never do.” However, we truly never know what we’ll do, especially if we were in the other person’s situation or walking in their shoes.

It’s not our role to be the judge & jury for people; our role is to pray for others. God’s role is to do His will & His way.

We all have something that we’re in constant prayer about; don’t let your judgment of others cloud your vision---we’re all a work in progress & seeking God’s will for our lives.

Nugget: Grace & peace; two things that I pray for & thank God for. Because of His grace, we are here today; because of His grace, we have new mercies every day. This is truly something we shouldn’t take for granted.

Peace---many of us seek it, in many different things. I’ve come to realize that true peace comes from God. Once we give everything over to Him, we have to trust in Him to work out everything for our good.

Nugget: God makes no mistakes!! He knew exactly what He was doing when He created each & every one of us. His plans for us included more than what we look like--His plans included & include the path He has set for us.

Sometimes we may not understand all that God is doing & what He’s to do in the future, the most important thing to remember is that HE KNOWS. We don’t need to know His entire plans, but need to have the faith to believe that His plans are final & they’ve been in the works since before we were born.

Scripture: Psalm 71:14 As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. (NIV)

Nugget: Hope, according the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “to expect with confidence.” This scripture mentions that “I will always have hope.” Most times, our faith & hope are attached to our excepted outcome of what we’re praying for. For instance, if God is taking “too long” to answer our prayers, we get discouraged. The important thing for us to remember is to always have hope; knowing that God is working things out in our favor.

Do not lose hope in God & what you’re seeking from Him. Praise Him in your waiting, praise Him in your “meantime” season, praise Him for all that He’s done & all that He’s going to do---ALWAYS have hope in Him---God is always on time!!

Nugget: Lately, I’ve been praying on seeking God’s will for my life; I cannot say that the answer has come quickly, but I know it’s on the way! In the midst of this, I’ve experienced various thoughts & feelings: faith one day, anxiousness the next, both patience & impatience. Yes, there is a rollercoaster going on!

But as each day goes by, I learn more & more that God is in control. He knows the tests it takes for me to be the person He intends--He knows the anxious thoughts as well as the final outcome for things to come. I’m glad that God is in the processing business--removing the things from me that are not needed, while guiding me into His will & way.

Nugget: In life, there will always be challenges & troubles that come our way; these things are inevitable. However, God’s word & commands are what help us in making it through the troubles we face.

Daily, we should take time to talk to God, meditate on His word, & read His word. These are what allow us to face what comes our way. God didn’t say that everything would be easy, but He is with us through it all!

Set aside time to spend with God today & everyday.

Nugget: There are some things that we learn that are through the Spirit of God; these lessons, words, & teachings are through God’s grace & can only be explained by having a relationship with Him--by being connected to Him. These same things cannot be explained by human wisdom alone. Just think on the things that have happened in your life that can be attributed to God alone--I could name a few myself!

There are many who do not believe in God’s power & all that He can do; it’s unexplainable & not understandable to these individuals. However, we must keep everyone uplifted in prayer. There’s nothing like a relationship with God; this is something everyone should experience.

Do You Know?

Do you really know & feel how blessed you are? With the way things are today, it’s so easy to get caught up in the on-goings of life; the negativity that can come your way….however, God is so good---in the midst of it all, He’s still in the blessing business.

Counting blessings can truly supersede the negativity & challenges we face on a daily basis. For instance, the day may not have gone the way we wanted it to, BUT GOD blessed us with another day---someone didn’t wake up this morning, someone woke up & couldn’t move their arms & legs, and the list goes on! We are truly blessed!

We have health, family, friends, & love. Focusing on these things can keep us going in the midst of it all. I work daily to stay focused on the blessings God has given me, rather than the things I think that I “should” have or have not received yet. We shouldn’t take anything for granted.

Don’t let the negativity & the bad days get you down; there’s so much more that God has in store. Don’t let the things you face cloud your vision of what God is doing & all that He has done. Be grateful for each day--knowing that the gift of life is precious & nothing we should take for granted.

Do you know how blessed you are? Do you know that God is in the blessing business? Do you know that your blessings outweigh anything that you’re facing? Even if it doesn’t seem like it, life is good, God is good, & things are good (& as most people say, “things could be worse”).

Nugget: Many of us have gone through periods of life where we feel lost & alone; most times, we were seeking answers & guidance, feeling that both could not be found. We may have even sought the advice of friends or family, but to no avail, the answers & guidance we sought were unfound.

Israel most likely had the same feelings we’ve had; but in their distress & during their difficult times, they sought God & found Him. Notice the scriptures do not indicate that God was lost, but Israel sought Him & He was there--God was never missing or gone.

In our distress & difficult times, we must turn to God--He isn’t missing, but is always there for us to find Him. Who are you turning to today?

Nugget: Encouragement---we all need it. God definitely provides this through Pastors, sermons, friends, family, etc. The people & things we receive encouragement from are a consistent part of our lives---we receive this encouragement to continue on the road Christianity & to build our faith.

Never get tired of encouraging another person; encourage them in the same manner as those who encourage you. We should be there for each other; the challenges of life will always be present, but there is power in the words we speak to one another!

Nugget: I think we all know someone who loves to argue or to “keep something going.” You know, the person who’s always willing to fight or quarrel to get his/her point across; most times, the “point” is about nothing at all. The best way to handle this type of person is to walk away. This shows true wisdom.

Use wisdom to avoid strife & fighting; most times, the fighting is pointless & can turn into much more than a “simple” conversation. Wisdom is the key.

Nugget: Sometimes we may feel that no one understands or is there to listen to us in our time of need; in the most challenging times, we all need someone to be there for us. The good thing is, when we cry out to God, He’s always there. God hears us & answers prayers.

We truly should focus on our relationship with God, as we would with others. Do you seek God first in challenging situations? Do you put as much stock in His opinion as you would others? He is consistently present…we must seek Him--He hears our cries every time & is in the answering business!

Scripture: II Corinthians 4:7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (NLT)

Nugget: A friend recently reminded me that we are to be a light to others around us; this light that shines in us is God & a representation of Him. We should show this light daily; being an example of God & His love, all that He does, & all that He continues to do.

By showing God’s light, we show others that our power doesn’t rest in us, but in Him! Of course there will be difficult & challenging days; however, God’s light should shine through us even in the most challenging moments.

Wondering & Waiting

Do you ever wonder what God is up to? I know I do; however, I do know that He’s working. I do wonder if this is a reflection of my faith & patience in waiting. Hmmmm.

I think my thoughts of “What’s going to happen next in my life?” are in response to my recent birthday (thanking God for another year!). I think birthdays and New Years make us reflect on what has passed & what’s on the way. It’s a reflection on what direction I intend to go & if I’m on the track that He’s set for me.

I guess I’m thinking on the things that I’ve been praying for & about, the things I’m praying to come to pass, & the things that I don’t know that God is working out for my good! Thank goodness He’s in complete control; because if it were up to me, I would probably go in the wrong direction.

I’m learning that no matter what, waiting is a part of life. There are some things we may wait longer for than others, but the point is---waiting is inevitable. Waiting includes preparation, patience, & faith. Eventually, we discover that most things are “worth the wait”.

I continue to pray that God reveal His plans for me during the period of waiting & preparation. I pray that I don’t get impatient & get in the way! LOL. God knows me well; but I can honestly say that I’m not where I used to be.

Thanking God for the gift of waiting on Him. He knows His plans for us & I am blessed to be His child.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! (NKJV)

Nugget: What a blessing & challenge it is for us to do God’s will. The blessing exists because of the outcome of following God’s will & way, the challenge exists because we need to get out of God’s way & let His work be done.

By keeping God in our hearts, we tend to seek Him & His will for our lives. In doing this, our mindset changes; this change includes us imbedding God into our actions & words. There’s nothing like following our Lord, who truly knows where He is going & what He has in store for us.

Nugget: Many of us are seeking various blessings & desires from God; however, do we trust Him to give these requests to us? This scripture indicates for us to “delight” ourselves in the Lord; this means to trust Him, believe Him, & to follow Him. For anything we’re seeking must go through Him & He must approve--we definitely wouldn’t want things any other way!

How’s your faith & trust in God? Do you believe that you’ll receive what you’re requesting? Sometimes, God is waiting on us to have that faith (even mustard seed faith) to give us the desires of our hearts!

Nugget: We should continually seek wisdom & knowledge. Each day is an opportunity to learn & to grow; if you experience a day where you are not gaining knowledge, you should do a double check.

God gives us the gift of each day to do many things: learn, grow, love, work, live, etc. There’s no reason not to utilize the great gift that He’s given us. For once we gain wisdom & knowledge, they should be imbedded in our hearts & souls.

Do a double check today to see where you begin the day & end the day; what did you learn? Did you end the day differently from how you started it?

Quality vs. Quantity

Lately, my battle has included achieving balance. This is a topic that I’ve written about before; truly, I believe God continues to show me that this is a necessity in my life!

In various conversations with friends & family, I’ve realized even more that many of us are existing & not living our lives. Existing, to me, is going day-by-day, doing what we’ve always done, & not living our lives to the fullest extent God has designed us to. Living, to me, is enjoying life to the fullest, living out my dreams, & doing what God has called me to do. So how do I change my mindset to get there?

I think a lot of it has to do with living the quality of life God has designed for me as well. God wants us to live this life to the fullest extent possible. The Bible is full of Scriptures that indicate that he wants us happy (ex: Psalm 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. NLT). So are we happy & joyful? Are we living this life with the quality that God wants us to? Some days I feel like “Yes, I am”. Other times, I’ve wonder where the day & time have gone.

Many of us get caught up in the quantity of life; for instance, having the best jobs, spending, wasting time, etc. Of course there’s nothing wrong with living an abundant life, but does the quality equate to the quantity that we have established? Does the quantity demonstrate existing only or living as well? I feel that quantity sometimes relates a lot to existing; it can easily intermingle with my thoughts on merely existing rather than living.

I’m seeking both from God; the balance is there somewhere. But in order to truly live this life to the fullest, He is my guide. He continues to show me the things I must do to get there. As we know, time is precious & we cannot get it back. I want to make the most of what God has for me, truly live, & have the balance that He’s designed for us to have.

So are you living or existing? Are you taking things, people, time, gifts, etc. for granted? Are you focusing on quality or quantity??

Nugget: There are many things that we’ve learned that only our parent(s) (or parental figures) could teach us. These are lessons & words of wisdom that many of us continue to carry with us today.

Parents usually have our best interests at heart; during the times they were sharing these wise words with us, we mostly likely didn’t want to hear them. But, these same words have so much meaning & understanding now.

Scripture: Isaiah 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal. (NIV)

Nugget: Trust in the Lord--many of us say we do, but circumstances & situations may shake our faith. The “shaking” of our faith should make us turn to God, rather than doubt what He is doing. Most times, this shaking is to build something in us or to prepare us for what’s to come.

To trust in the Lord is to give EVERYTHING completely to Him; it’s not giving things to Him & picking them back up again. Trust in the Lord FOREVER; yes, forever is a long time, but there’s no one else who can hold a candle to Him. No one else has the power that our Lord has--God is our Rock & He always comes through.

Scripture: Matthew 9:17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (NIV)

Nugget: There are some things that we have to change about ourselves. We cannot do things “the way we have always done” if we’re trying to progress & move forward in the Lord.

For instance, imagine if you were still riding around on the bicycle with training wheels on it; where would you go? Life is similar to this; as time goes on, we should be progressing as well. We shouldn’t be in the same place day after day, with no growth in sight.

This scripture references pouring new wine into old wineskins & how the wineskins will be ruined if this happens. We should continually try to pour something new into our lives, our days, our attitudes, our jobs, our families, etc.

What can you do today to show that you’re progressively moving forward in the Lord?

Scripture: Ephesians 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. (NLT)

Nugget: We have to keep our attitudes in check; for many of us, anything can “set us off.” Most times, our reactions include behavior that is against how God wants us to act & react.

This scripture reminds us to get rid of all the behaviors noted; there is definitely importance in praying on all things--including our behaviors. Just think on the times where you had to pray before reacting to a challenging situation--prayer has definitely helped me to get through a few of these!!

Throughout this week, challenge yourself to check your attitude & behavior; as the saying goes, “What would Jesus do?”

Next Movie: "Courageous"

Although I’ve already seen “Courageous”, I’ve been meaning to post about it prior to its release date this past Friday :) The movie is great & has a great message. If you’ve seen the movie “Fireproof”, you’re already familiar with the work of those who created “Courageous”.

Excuses, Excuses

Do you know people who have excuses about everything? I mean those who have a “reason” why so much is not getting completed in their lives? For instance, the friend who “wants to work out”, but “can’t” because he/she “does not like the gym” or “doesn’t like to go walking”. The friend who finds working out “boring”, BUT wants to lose weight? Or the friend who wants a “better job”, but isn’t putting in applications anywhere?? I’m sure we’ve all come across these people in our lives.

Daily, I always continue to learn, but one lesson remains clear: People will do what they want to do & make time for what they really want to do. When it comes to these things, there will be no excuses. However, we must discern what we will allow these people to deposit into our lives (as most times, these people come with some sort of baggage or attitudes).

However, I’ve also learned that in many cases, there’s no reason for me to make excuses why I’m not achieving something I’ve set out to do. Most times, I’m getting in my own way (with my own thoughts or doubts); however, God is so amazing that He continues to put me in check; whether it be through a sermon, advice from friends, quiet times with Him--God continues to show me His will.

So, are you an excuse-maker? Are you not setting out to do something in particular because of your own thoughts & “reasons” behind not doing these things? What’s keeping you? Why aren’t you moving? My advice--do something (besides making excuses). It’s one thing to know that the timing isn’t right, but it’s an entirely different thing to sit back & let life pass us by. Time is of the essence!!

It’s time to put ourselves in check! While the excuses roll out, time is flying by!!

Scripture: Psalm 51:15 Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you. (NLT)

Nugget: Most times, when we’re facing challenges & battles, it’s difficult to offer praise to God; true, we may pray and worry, & worry and pray, but praise goes a long way.

Someone recently told me that in order for them to overcome their battles, challenges, & various things that were holding her in bondage, she praised. This person stated that the praise she offered to God got her further in the process of peace than just praying alone.

Unseal your lips & praise God through all things! Sometimes, your praise will get you further than you believe. The advice I received was right on time!

Nugget: Daily, I’m reminded of how precious life is. There is so much left on my “to-do” list; however, time is not on my side. We must remember that each day is a gift; more importantly, that time is a gift from God that we must appreciate. However, time isn’t necessarily always on our sides!

God is the only one who knows when our last days on earth will be; don’t lose sight of how precious life is. Is there something you’re seeking to accomplish? Then work towards it. Are there things on your “to-do” and bucket lists that you haven’t begun to do? Then start. Do not wait until the last minute to get these things done---the time is now.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV)

Nugget: As we begin a new day & a new week, I’m reminded that each day brings its own challenges & battles. However, the strength we have in God & His ability supersedes what we face each day. We shouldn’t let these challenges get us down or get the best of us; our God is by our sides, acting on our behalf.

One of the most important things to remember is that some of the challenges & battles that we face are to make us into the people & Christians that God intends for us to be; without these battles, there is no growth. Everything has a way of working out for our good---just live, watch, trust, & believe.

Nugget: God’s word--there’s nothing like it! It’s our road map to live, our answers to questions, our answers to prayers, life, & challenges, & so much more. This is why it’s so imperative for us to read & to meditate on God’s word. Just think about it, if you didn’t read God’s word, you would have nothing to combat the challenges that face you on a daily basis.

God’s word is alive & we must recognize this; our actions should reflect this. God & His word keeps us, our thoughts, & attitudes in check. It’s up to us to access the gift that God has given to us!

10 Years Later...

It’s been 10 years since September 11, 2001!! I can’t believe how the time went by. It’s amazing because the more I think about it, the more I realize some things are the same & some things are very different.

Right after September 11th, the whole environment was different. There was amicability between people, “God Bless America” signs & sayings everywhere, & more. Now it seems as if many of this has passed & faded within that first year. However, the memories of that day will always live on. Many of us were affected in many ways, from the loss of loved ones to the day being imbedded in our brains forever.

If my future children ask me about that day, I would be able to say what I was doing & where I was when the news came through. For many, this day will be similar to the assignations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Pres. John F. Kennedy.

I pray for everyone who was affected by this day; I pray for those who live on with the memories, reminders, & loss. I pray for continued peace & for those of us who seek it. I pray for those who continue to fight the war that I may never be able to explain.

No matter how many years go by, we will always remember.

Faith and Fear

Most of us know that faith & fear cannot exist in the same place. The thing is, I believe that many of us bounce between the two. Rather it depends on our situations or what we’re going through, faith & fear continuously battle.

There are many things that I’ve been praying on & know that God is answering me. However, the “me” in myself is either dragging my feet in taking action or going back & forth between faith & fear. I have to say, that in most cases, I would be moving right along, but for some reason, this is not the case at the moment. I know that God continues to show me the Him in His answers.

With this being said, God’s will & thoughts are truly powerful. No matter what we do, His will & ways will prevail. However, we will either go the path He intends for us to go on or go our way & end up where we’re supposed to in the long run (but our way is most times longer & has a tough lesson attached to it).

Faith & fear cannot co-exist. God continues to show me this. I just pray that the “me” in my situations will move out the way of God. He has so much in store (for all of us).

Is the fear in you getting in the way of God’s plans for you?

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. -II Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

Nugget: There are many battles in life that we’re not supposed to fight; we’re to step back & allow God to do His work. Most times, these battles include the ones that involve our enemies. It’s amazing that God can do (that’s better than what we can do on our own).

My Pastor always says, “There are some people who will not like you” (C. Jones); these same people are ones who you never did anything to or have anything against--there’s no pleasing them either way. However, they will work to make your life difficult; enemies truly come in many forms. With this being said, God can handle things & people better than we can!

Let God handle the battles you face with your enemies; step back & allow Him to work. There’s no victory like the one He can obtain!

Nugget: You have to be confident in the Lord; wavering should not be in your vocabulary or actions! To “remain confident” means that you were confident to begin with. How confident are you in God’s goodness & in what He does?

Daily, we live to see His goodness; this is only by His mercy & grace. This is enough for us to count all blessings! We’ve all heard the saying, “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.” Act like you see it, live it, & believe it!

Nugget: Life & the things we face can definitely be overwhelming; just the day-to-day on-goings of life can bring on the thought of “Am I going to make it?” The best part of going through these days & things is that God is with us. We just have to call on Him.

I’ve faced a challenging few weeks, but keep my eyes, mind, & heart focused on God; He knows what He’s doing & knows the limits of what I can handle. We must always have this mindset when challenges are upon us!

Don’t allow the things you face to be bigger than the God you know & love! God is above all things.

For My Singletons, Pt. 16

It’s been a minute since I’ve written to my Singletons out there. I’ve been listening & learning more & more recently about the on goings of relationships. The more & more time passes, & the more & more I learn, I keep coming back to the same thoughts: “Do not settle & allow God to guide you to the right person for you” and “Love yourself more than you love another person.”

I can say that most people I know seemed to not have done any one of the two things above. They are in various situations & relationships that would make one think, “Is God in this?” (Which we know that God is not in the midst of confusion) Also, how can you love someone completely, if you don’t love the “you” in You?? As crazy as it sounds, many people put others over themselves & this can come off in the form of settling rather than living, loving, & learning.

It’s sad in many instances, because our time on Earth is so limited & many chose to spend it in a situation (or situations) in which they are not happy. Believe me, I’m not one to think that all relationships are roses & sunshine (it will be work regardless), but wouldn’t this work be better accomplished with the one God has chosen?

Time truly waits for no one, & time is definitely one of things we cannot get back once it’s gone; we must look to God for all choices & guidance. So singletons: do not settle, know what you want in a person, love yourself, seek God, & allow Him to step in. Be open to what He will bring you, but do not compromise on what you know He intends for you to have. Life is way too short!!

Scripture: Revelation 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (NIV)

Nugget: We are truly in the last days. From watching TV, hearing the news, & talking to others, we can definitely see that what God stated would occur is happening.

We have to check ourselves & know that we’re on God’s path--we’re living by His word & sharing the Gospel with others. It will be a sad thing to know that there are people we could’ve reached, but we didn’t do so.

This scripture notes “Blessed are those who hear it and take it to heart”; we must do this daily---hear & take His word to heart & prepare for what’s to come.

Nugget: There are many people who claim to know & to live God’s word; these same people have hearts & actions that do not line up with God’s word. It’s imperative that we know God’s word for ourselves; refraining from seeking advice & preaching from “false prophets”.

Stay in prayer regarding those who you receive God’s word from; seek God in all things. He will lead you in the right direction.

Nugget: God is a promise keeper! ALL of the promises He made to the people of Israel came to pass; this included bringing them to the Promised Land to taking care of them afterwards. If God did ALL things for them, He can definitely do the same for us!

Focus on faith & God. His promises are true & He’s working all the time. Don’t faint & lose sight of what He’s done, what He’s doing, & what’s on the way. Thanking God for always being the one who comes through on His promises!

Scripture: Psalm 40:5 Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. (NIV)

Nugget: Many people tend to focus on their problems rather than their blessings. Have you ever met a person who constantly complains about everything? When I come in contact with this type of person, I remind them to count their blessings. In the midst of counting our blessings, the problems do not seem as big!

Looking back on what God has done & what He continues to do, blessings tend to outnumber any problems or obstacles that come our way. Just think, if we were to start counting our blessings now, we wouldn’t be able to stop! God is so good!

Seek things & people in your life that bring knowledge & growth. We should always be ready to learn & to growth; anything otherwise is a hindrance.

A Good Read: "The Mailbox"

A few months ago, I the chance to hear Mary Beth Whalen speak at a book conference about her novel, “The Mailbox”. After hearing her words & others’ reviews of the novel, I wanted to read it for myself. I recently finished reading the novel, & have to say I was not disappointed. The novel was well-written; it made you want to see how things ended & also what went on in the time between!

The novel tells the story of Lindsey & Campbell; the novel isn’t just about them though--it’s about friendship, love, family, & faith. I think everyone can walk away with something from this book. One of the most important things for me was the importance of God’s grace.

Nugget: As Christians, we must guard what we say & what we put out there. Sometimes, we think before speaking, but our words should line up with our actions. We shouldn’t be saying we’re Christians & acting out in another manner.

There are people who “go to church” & who are “religious”, but the actions & words that follow someone who’s truly for God & what He’s about correlate with the actions of what a Christian is to be.

Nugget: Daily, we should be spending time with God & meditating on His word. It’s so important for us to spend time with Him & get to know His word. There’s so much written in the Bible that helps us make it through the various challenges we face, while letting us know how much God loves us & the promises He’s made to us.

Set aside time to spend with God, read your Bible--don’t let it be the item that is in or on the nightstand that’s never touched!! It’s one of the most important items we own, that has the most value as well!

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:1-3 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (NIV)

Nugget: It seems like most kids now-a-days have totally disregarded the respect for their parents! Just looking at the news tells numerous stories of incidences that have occurred to parents because of things their children have done. It’s really sad.

These scriptures state the importance of honoring parents: it’s the first commandment with a promise! How quickly we overlook this commandment in the midst of everything else. These scriptures also state that in honoring parents, “it may go well with you & you may enjoy life on earth.” There’s a lot connected with this commandment! Following it is connected with life on earth & the peace that could come with this life!

Nugget: We should always seek to understand what God’s will is. Our actions & words should reflect what we’ve learned in Him & because of Him. God guides us in the way of wisdom; not foolishness.

With everything that’s going on daily in our lives, we know that God will not lead us wrong. We must continue on the path that He’s set for us; the path of understanding, wisdom, love, & guidance. God will not lead us wrong.

Work in Progress....

Daily, I’m reminded that I’m a work in progress! But daily, I am also reminded that I am not where I used to be. I am so grateful & thankful to God for allowing change to occur in me.

“Back when” I would view things & people differently; I feel that God has opened my mind to a lot of things: change, time, waiting, & patience. I can admit, patience is something that I continue to work on, but again, there’s growth there.

No matter what you’re going through, thank God for it; everything happens according to His purpose. It’s up to us to take heed & learn what God wants us to learn. God’s intended outcome is for us to become closer to Him & for us to grow in Him.

Remember that you, too, are a work in progress! Don’t give up on what God is doing in you & through you. His work is never done; He will always complete what He started in you!

Nugget: These were the words God spoke to the Israelites so many years ago; these same words hold true today. God doesn’t want us to have fear or to be discouraged. Our strength & guidance come from Him.

If you’re praying on anything & afraid to take that next step, stand on God’s promises. He loves us too much not to be there for us. He “upholds us with His righteous right hand”, giving us continuous strength & help. No one else can be what God is to us---His presence & love are never-ending.

Scripture: Psalm 7:15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me of the quote, “If you make your bed, you have to lay in it.” So many times our actions affect us in ways we wouldn’t expect; we react to the “spur of the moment” rather than thinking things through. At other times, we don’t react to the “spur of the moment” & do what we feel we must. However, at all times, we should consider how God would want us to handle the situations of our lives.

Be mindful of the actions you take & the decisions you make; don’t be the one to dig your own hole! The same hole you dig may be the pit you’ll be trying to get out of later!

Next on the list of “movies to see” is “The Help”. This movie stars Viola Davis as “Aibileen”, Emma Stone as “Skeeter”, and Octavia Spencer as “Minny”. The movie is based upon a book by Kathryn Stockett with the same title. More information on the book can be found here.

I plan to read the book prior to seeing the film; I also heard the book is a “must read”. I believe we’ll all see a few nominations for the movie!!

I hope that you get the chance to see the movie; it’s in theaters August 12, 2011.

Scripture: Philippians 2:9-11 9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NIV)

Nugget: Jesus, the name above all names!! Our Lord & Savior. As we continue in these last days, we definitely should have our focus on Jesus, all that He’s done for us, & all that He continues to do in our daily lives. We must acknowledge Him! What a great Savior we have the honor to know, love, & serve.

This scripture notes that “every knee should bow”; this does mean EVERY. We may know some people who do not believe & who do not want to believe; we must continue to uplift them in prayer. This journey is one that we’re all on together & when the Bible says “EVERY” it definitely means this. There’s still time to pray & to reach those who do not know our Lord!

Scripture: Proverbs 17:20 One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble. (NIV)

Nugget: Our hearts & minds must align; if we’re thinking the wrong things & reacting in the same manner, most times, trouble is on the way (or we’re already in trouble).

Many of us are guilty of “reacting in the moment” or when we’re upset. The consequences of these actions are usually tough lessons learned. These lessons are ones that we usually don’t forget!

A heart, mind, thoughts, & actions, on the right track, produce the right outcome. What can you change about your thoughts & actions today?

Nugget: God looks at the heart of a person; everything starts there. Most times, our actions are determined by what we feel in our hearts. Just think on the times that your feelings ruled your actions & the outcome of those actions.

God detests those whose hearts are crooked; He wants those who have hearts & actions that align with Him! This is why it’s important for us to do a self-check of our actions, hearts, & thoughts. We must aim to be what God intends for us to be.

Scripture: Psalm 18:30 God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. (NLT)

Nugget: God is the only one who’s perfect; everything He does & all His promises are true. Sometimes we may feel as if God isn’t working “fast enough” or things aren’t coming in the form what we anticipate, but God knows what’s best. I’ve learned to thank God for unanswered & delayed prayers as there’s no telling what He’s kept me from (or kept from me)!

At times, we may work to achieve perfection; this perfection can only come from our Lord. God’s perfection remains unchangeable & stable—through Him, we are products of His perfection!

Nugget: Sometimes all we have to do is proclaim the love we feel & have for the Lord. Our words have so much impact! No matter what we’re facing, our love for Him (& His for us) allows us to continue on in the strength that He provides.

Thanking God for the love He gives, the love I have for Him, & being able to proclaim it (in many places, this is not allowed). This love is our strength during all times!

Scripture: Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (NIV)

Nugget: Permanent, consistent, never changing—all describe God’s word. His word will never pass away; however, what we see and have on earth isn’t permanent. We must take time out to study God’s word & input it in our minds & hearts. Most times, this is easier said than done; time tends to get away with us, work keeps us busy, & so on. However, nothing should get in the way of our relationships with God.

Take time out for the most permanent part of your life—God and His word. Nothing compares to the relationship we have with Him.

Scriptures: Proverbs 1:8-9 8Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 9They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. (NIV)

Nugget: Parental advice is some of the best advice we can receive; at times, it’s the advice we take for granted. For instance, we’ve all been in the situation where parents have told us things we “just didn’t want to hear”. However, this same advice was so true and valuable to us later on.

Don’t take for granted the wise counsel received from the love of parents (grandparents, aunts, etc.); their advice is detrimental!

Scripture: Zechariah 14:9 The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name. (NIV)

Nugget: God is God…period. We should put no one or nothing over Him. He’s the one who created EVERYTHING—us, the people we love, the homes we live in, the blessings we have, etc. It’s so sad that many do not acknowledge Him or His existence or even doubt Him.

The thing is we are in the last days. Those who may not know Him still have the chance to get to know Him. The last thing someone would want to do is wait until “that day” to get to know Him. Don’t be in the number of those who are waiting; take the opportunity to get to know Him now.

Let’s keep each other uplifted in prayer along our Christian journeys. We must encourage one another & bring others to His kingdom!

Scripture: II Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. (NIV)

Nugget: We are truly in the last days. Many things in the Bible are coming to pass. Many people try to attribute the on goings of today to many other reasons, but in reading our Bibles, we know that these things are happening per God’s word.

It is so vital that we know the Lord & His word for ourselves; that we work on our relationships with Him. Now is not the time for playing games! (As my Pastor says)

If today was the last day on Earth, do you know that you’ll be going to Heaven? If the answer is anything other than “yes”, it’s time to get to work!

Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. (NIV)

Nugget: God has plans for us to prosper. He never intended for us to be the tail; we are to be the head, continuing to move forward, lead, & achieve all that He has called us to do.

Pay attention to what God has put in you to do; listen to Him & to His will. By listening to God & following Him, our focus changes. We can look at the challenges we face in a different manner—from the eyes of victory!

Thanking God for leading us & for allowing us to be prosperous; more importantly—for loving us enough to do so!

Nugget: It’s definitely okay to say that we believe in God, but do our hearts, actions, & faith line up with our belief? Even the demons believe that God exists; as we know, their actions differ from that of Christians!

We want to live our lives according to how God wants us to live; both in actions & in spirit. It’s not enough to believe only; we must walk the walk as we talk the talk!

Scripture: Proverbs 13:21 Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things. (NIV)

Nugget: There are some people that trouble follows no matter what. We all have (or have had) the friend who’s always in trouble, who always has something going on, & who never has peace. These people are those we have to pray for, as we’re all children of God. God can work out any situation & change any person.

With God working out the situations for us & for others, the reward is good things! “Good things” from God comes in many forms, but one of the best forms is peace! Thank God for keeping us on the right path; allowing the open door for His good things.

Scripture: Mark 8:36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? (NIV)

Scripture: Daily, I focus on achieving balance in my life (or getting as close to it as possible!). It’s so easy to get caught up in our various work schedules & being driven to succeed that balance seems far off.

Then I’m reminded that God has given us life to enjoy; this doesn’t consist of work only. Especially since our goals should be to love & praise God, live the life He’s given us to the fullest, & to seek His will for our lives.

“What good is it to gain the whole world?” without having God in our lives. Work, schedules, careers, etc. won’t save our souls, but knowing our Lord & Savior will. We all must seek balance in the lives we’ve been blessed with; God continues to work out the details, we must be willing to let Him lead. Our souls are on the line!!
