If you're in the Central Florida area, here's info for a play that my friend is in!!

"Laying Where No One Can See" is the story of 4 best friends who move into an apartment together. After meeting two guys who live next door their lives are sent on a roller coaster ride. Tre, the smooth talking ladies man, convinces the girls that he was made just for them. As they begin to fall for him friendships are tested, and lives are changed. Things are done behind closed doors, but they eventually come to the light. Secrets are revealed as the girls struggle with pointing the blame instead of searching themselves.

Last Quarter of 2008!!!!

One of my friend's mentioned God answering prayers in the last quarter. Well needless to say, I received the best type of raise: a new job for the New Year!!!! Who would've thought He would've waited until 12/30/08!! God is too good. It's been a complete struggle & trying at many times, but thank God for good people around me to encourage me when I was down, that prayed for me when I couldn't, that sent job listings & referrals my way. There's so much that they have done that I know w/out them, this could not happen!!

I don't know if there is truly a way to thank people who have such a positive impact on my life, but I do know that they are by my side no matter what. When I gave notice of the new job, you knew that they felt like they had to job too! These are the people that you keep around, not because of what they do, but because of who they are & who they are to you. They cannot be replaced & if something happens to them or with them, you know that the feelings are reciprocated.

As for the last quarter, I previously wrote about my new car (which happened a month ago) & now I'm writing about my new job. Both being true blessings & then some. I say to anyone who's seeking something & it's not coming in the way he/she wants it to, to keep praying & to stay strong. Stay surrounded by those who can uplift you & cry when you cry, laugh when you laugh, & rejoice when you rejoice!!!

Those last quarter blessings are the ones you appreciate even more than the ones that are handed to you. Don't give up!!! Keep looking, keep seeking, & keep God first. Also, when you get your blessings, don't forget others that you can be a blessing to as well. God doesn't bless us only :)

Until next time.

Humble Advice for the New Year & Beyond

My friend emailed this to me & I thought it would be good to share :) Great advice.

*Go through your cell phone, caller id, calendar, and email addresses and discard all the people and events that mean you no good or don't benefit your life!

*Stop making excuses about your life and make changes! Keep your opinion to yourself! We all know what others should do, but what about you?

*If you are involved w/ a person, job, or circumstance that is doing more harm than good, do yourself a favor - LET IT GO!

*Take care of your kids and devote a weekend or two when you spend "quality" time with them. Who cares if you miss out on an event! You can party anytime!

*If you are not saved....get saved!!!!!

*Get your debt in order! Eventually you'll want a nice home and car in your name!

*Stop spreading senseless rumors and try to get your own life in order!

*Listen more! Talk Less!

*Give without worrying about it!

*Tell him no for once!

*Tell people you love them before your hear about some great tragedy in the world or lose a close friend!

*Speak clearly and not ignorantly! Anyone can be a fool.

*If you are married, stop cheating. If you're guilty of this, ask God to forgive you and don't do it again! Remember the Ten Commandments.

*Keep your opinion to yourself! We all know what others should do, but what about you?

*If God delivers you from a messy relationship, friend or situation, why do you keep PULLING THEM BACK? Let it go!

*FORGIVE! FORGIVE! FORGIVE! All of us have been forgiven for some lowlife things! So open your heart! Remember - God forgave you.

*Men, stop trying to be so hard when it comes to relationships. Let that guard down before you lose the one that's meant for you!

*Speak up for yourself!

*Learn a new hobby! Broaden your mind.

*If you're single, start going on more dates with different types of people. Don't just stick to the same type of woman or man!

*Stop forwarding all the text messages you receive; everyone doesn't have unlimited text messages!!!

*Live today like it's your last day, love like God taught us, and laugh like you've never laughed before!

*Lastly, if it's only 5 minutes a day have a little talk with Jesus! Let Him know you want to be better today than you were yesterday and watch Him turn things around for you!

*"God determines who walks into your life....it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.

Go into 2009 with more gratitude than attitude......it will keep you healthier!!

No matter what the situation, always SMILE and count your blessings!

Until next time.

Merry Christmas!!!

"The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God." -Luke 1:35 (New Living Translation)

Merry Christmas everyone!!! May you enjoy the blessings today & everyday brings. Enjoy the time with family, friends, & loved ones.

Don't lose sight of what today is about: Christ's birth. This year was a tough year for many. Many people are doing less gift giving & more praying, thanking God, & appreciating life. These are truly gifts; not as materialistic as past years. But more to the heart!!!

May God bless you today & always!!!

Until next time.

"Seven Pounds"

I saw the movie, "Seven Pounds". My opinion is that's it's a good watch. It wasn't what I expected. As I've said previously, the trailer didn't give a lot of info, so I came up w/ what I thought it would be about & how it would go :) However, I had only a little part right!

I recommend it. Will Smith & Rosario Dawson did a great job. I, of course, won't tell the movie :) I'll let you come up with your own opinions!! But, if you catch it, Tom Cruise's son, Connor Cruise, plays a young Will Smith in the movie.

Until next time.

Okay everyone, you know I speak on peace & keeping the drama @ bay, so here goes. When you see people bringing drama to you or see that they have drama as part of their aura, run & keep going. I don't keep these type of people around me, but I see them trying to get into my circle.

Here you'll be, minding your own business, & here they come. Well, needless to say, I'm now somewhat of an expert at recognizing this craziness. So, basically, "do not pass Go, do not collect $200, & go to jail"; just like Monopoly.

Yes, everyone, today was one of those days, but you know what? I'm hanging onto the peace & keeping it. As I always recommend, keep an eye on what & who you let around you. Not everyone is meant to stay or enter!!

Until next time.

Something New...

With 2008 dwindling down, I know that many people make New Years resolutions. Now, I know we see the New Year as a start of something big; it's the something that pushes us to want to start over. Why not? I've done it myself :)

I now think & have witnessed that the New Year doesn't have to always be the new beginning. The something new can occur on a daily, weekly, monthly, or momentary basis. These are the things that happen that make you realize that God is still working in your life. For instance, recently, I got a new car. Now I didn't want to have to do this, but everything happens for a reason. Since this time many other blessings have come along. I appreciate them & am truly blessed, and am trying to sit back & enjoy the ride.

With this being said, don't hesitate to do that something new now. Don't wait until 1/1/09 to get started. I think that my list of resolutions will actually turn into a list of things I've never done & want to do sometime in my life. That way, not only am I enjoying the ride, but growing too. Of course I'll have some things that I want to make right & get right in '09, but I want the "Something New" as well!!!

Until next time.

Next Movie: "Seven Pounds"

So the next Will Smith movie, "Seven Pounds", comes out on December 19th. I've been seeing the commericals & will probably go see this one. I usually love his movies, so this should be good as well.

The commericals don't really say too much about the movie, but are just enough to make you wonder what it's about. I found this synopsis online:

"Ben (Will Smith) is an IRS agent who is deeply depressed and guilt-ridden over mistakes from his past. He sets out in his job to help seven strangers. When he meets Emily (Rosario Dawson), a beautiful woman with a heart condition, he falls in love with her, thereby complicating his plans. Woody Harrelson also appears as a blind pianist who befriends Ben."

Also, here's the movie trailer:

We'll have to see for ourselves!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 12/16/08

Scripture: Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (New King James Version)

Nugget: Mary gave birth to Jesus in a manger; He was born in one of the most humble beginnings! His earthly father, Joseph, was a carpenter. Yet, Jesus was the Savior of all.

This reminds me that no matter what your beginnings may be, that your future is full of possibilities & growth. There is ample opportunity to become all that you want & more. There are many examples that can be used to show this, but Jesus is the first one!

Quote: “The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.” –Benjamin Disraeli

Daily Scriptures 12/15/08

Scripture: Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! (New King James Version)

Nugget: Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines rejoice as: to give joy to & to feel joy or great delight. This is how we should be with God. No matter the situation or circumstance, give Him the glory!!!

Whether things are bad or good, there’s something in your life to glorify God about. You may think that you’re broke, but you have a roof over your head & food to eat. You may not like your car, but it gets you from point A to B. You may feel content with how everything in your life is going, Thank Him!!

Continue to give joy and glory to God & let Him know that joy is present in your life no matter what!!

Quote: “We have every reason in time and eternity to rejoice and give thanks for the quality of our lives and the blessings we have been given.” –Howard Hunter

Wow, this year has flown by....

Can you guys believe that 2008 is almost over?!?!?! Well, the way I see it, it's been an okay year. I can't complain. There was a lot going on this year for me, some good & some bad, but the good outweighs the bad. I'm looking forward to 2009, but there's still some of 2008 yet, so I don't count God short on the blessings that can still happen & you shouldn't either :) There's still a lot that can happen!!!

This weekend is packed for me: mandatory overtime @ work :( however, the extra $ will come in handy :) . There's the Christmas concert @ church that I'm excited about; this is the first year that I'll be able to go. Past years consisted of conflicting schedules, etc. And, I'm going to a baby shower for one of my friends :) This is her first child, so I'm happy & excited for her; she'll be a great mom :)

Well, my friends, again, don't count 2008 out already. Get in line for whatever good things remain for you in this year!! There has to be something on the way.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 12/11/08

Scriptures: Proverbs 24:1-2 1Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 2For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

Nugget: Don’t envy evil people; their mindset is set to destroy & they always seek ways to stir up trouble. You know those people I’m referring to; the ones you know who bring trouble with them all the time. Or even those who many seem like they have it all together, but something just isn’t right.

It’s best not to envy anyone, but the worse thing to do would be to surround yourself with those who always bring anything besides peace to your life.

Quote: “It is difficult to say who does you the most mischief: enemies with the worst intentions or friends with the best.” –Edward George Earle Bulwer-Lytton

Daily Scriptures 12/10/08

Scripture: II Corinthians 12:19 Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, Paul was clarifying actions he took & instruction he gave to the Corinthians. The Corinthians appear not to be receptive of what was being done, but Paul’s actions were to strengthen them.

This is how it is with us. How many times have parents, friends, & other loved ones given us (or attempted to give us) good advice that we didn’t take or closed our hearts & minds to? They were doing this to guide us in the right direction or to offer support & strength.

What good advice are you turning away? What sources of strength are you giving up?

Daily Scriptures 12/9/08

Scripture: Exodus 12:47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate this Passover festival. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, the Israelites were given instructions on how to celebrate Passover. The community was given instructions on how to participate & what was needed for Passover.

I began to think on how my friends & family will celebrate once one of us achieves something. It’s a community celebration for us all: when one receives something new (job, house, car, baby, etc.), we all receive. Being a part of something so big in another’s life is good to experience. It’s a community celebration as well!

Quote: “Connecting with the people who are meant to be part of your life is much more important than any aspect of business. It's the essence of happiness, the full realization of your potential for joy. By the end of your incredibly arduous, disappointing, stressful journey, you will be your true self, in a place where you belong, with friends who truly understand you and bring all sorts of opportunities your way. Every aspect of your life, whether it's a task or relationship, personal or professional, will be based on love and joy. And when you get right down to it, nothing else really matters.“ –Martha Beck

Daily Scriptures 12/8/08

Scriptures: Luke 2:6-7 6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. 7 She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: These scriptures & the ones prior to this one tell of Joseph & Mary travelling to the inn for Jesus’ birth. There was a lot going on: there was nowhere for them to stay in the inn, Mary was pregnant & engaged to Joseph, but the baby was not his, & more. However, in the midst of the craziness, our Savior was born. This is what Christmas is all about: the birth of Jesus!

Let’s not get caught up in what society is telling us & has outlined Christmas to be. Yes, it’s okay to receive & to give gifts, but more importantly, to remember the true meaning of Christmas.

The Beginning of Doubt....

In some recommended readings from a friend, I came across Pearl Cleage's "I Wish I Had a Red Dress". The main character mentioned this, "The beginning of doubt is the absence of faith". I pondered on this quote & decided to write it down for later :)

Needless to say, the later is now because I wanted to bring it up! So, where does the doubt step in for most of us? It's when we don't see what's going on behind the scenes in God's work. We will never truly see what He's up to, however, we must have the faith to know that He's working anyways; "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).

Is your doubt causing your faith to disappear? Is your doubt superseding your faith? Well, this isn't how things are supposed to be; not when you're believing in something that you know only God can do & only God can bring to pass. This is what makes testimonies so important & imperative to share w/ others. Because once you reach the point where you know the only one who could've done this great thing for you was God, it's when you really want to share it w/ everyone. It's the thing that you want to share because only God could've done it, only God could've gotten you through!!!

So what's the point in doubting when you know that God is at work on your behalf? What's the point in decreasing your faith when you know that God is up to something? What's the point in letting these contrary thoughts take over when you know faith is the key?

Don't let your doubt or the doubt of others keep you from what God has in store for you. Keep your faith intact & know that anything other to the contrary of faith is doubt.

The beginning of doubt is the absence of faith........ -Pearl Cleage

Until next time.

2008: New Beginnings

With December already here, I focus on what I thought at the beginning of 2008. It's been said that 8 is the number for new beginnings. So at the beginning of this year, I expected many new things to happen. I expected much from God. Who would've known that a lot of this expectation would've occurred at the end of the year?

For instance, for my Black Friday shopping, I wasn't going out to hit the stores, but I purchased my first brand new car. It was truly difficult in letting go of my old ride. I loved CeCe!!! However, I had to make room for Cecil. But I won't forget the fun of my baby, CeCe. It's time for new beginnings and new stories. Importantly so, new blessings.

(A pic of what CeCe looked like--this isn't her, but a sample)

With this being said, don't count the year over yet. There's still new beginnings on the horizon and for the next year. Don't think that the blessings and answered prayers have to come at some point-in-time; they arrive on God's accord & sometimes when you aren't ready for them. And there are those that come when you least expect.

(A pic of Cecil--not him, but a sample)

Be open for change, be open to what's to come. Expect new beginnings each day--don't wait for the new year!!! I look forward to what's next :)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 12/1/08

Scripture: Proverbs 27:12 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Nugget: It’s very good to be observant of your surroundings and the things that go on around you. When this is done, you’re prepared for what’s next. However, those who chose to ignore or don’t pay attention to what’s going on usually face some consequence. For instance, to go blindly into the darkness without noticing someone following you could bring a dire outcome.

Be observant, focused, and cautious!!

Daily Scriptures 11/26/08

Scriptures: II Corinthians 8:10-11 10 Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. 11 Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: At times, we all start new projects, goals, etc. full-force; this can be with eagerness & drive to accomplish what we set out to do. As time goes by, the desire dwindles & those projects take a backseat to other things.

What is it that you started to do with so much drive & determination that you haven’t completed? Where is it that you really want to be in life? What have you started, but not finished??

Get to it!!! Finish what you’ve started & do what it is that you’ve been really wanting to do!

Your Story

Hey all, I've been on the fritz; Internet was out!!! I tell ya, it seems like a while, but probably wasn't too long :)

Anywho, I've been thinking & yet again receiving some unsolicited advice. Let me say, that no matter what kinda advice people bring to you (& most will be based upon their experiences & at times, stuff they haven't gotten over), your story will be your story. Whether it's career, love, education, whatever, your story is exactly yours & will be like no one else's.

I say this mainly because, it's sometimes easy to get caught up in what people bring to you & bring at you, but in reality, it's not too hard to weed out the advice that doesn't have your best interest at heart. So when someone comes to you w/ advice that's basically tell-telling his/her outcome in a certain situation: your story will be your story! Don't let anyone impose nonsense on you that doesn't reflect who or what you are.

Seek God & see what His story is for you. He doesn't have any ultimatums, secret agendas, ill-feelings, etc. He has the desire to see you succeed, prosper, be happy, & more.

P.S. Yes, my advice-receiving days from certain people are truly over :)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/25/08

Scripture: Psalm 94:19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

Nugget: Sometimes we get so caught up & consumed with our thoughts & things going on around us that our only comfort is God. Knowing God is in the comforting business definitely keeps us going! He’s the only one who can truly understand & guide us through our messes, desires, waiting, etc.

In your multitude of thoughts & on-goings, don’t forget to add God to the equation!

Quote: “Men and women who turn their lives over to God will find out that he can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace. Whoever will lose his life to God will find he has eternal life.” –Ezra Taft Benson

Today's topic is obstacles. We all have them, right?? The thing is, we have to look at the way we view them. They can be good or bad; meaning, obstacles can turn into your blessings & miracles. Because, we must admit, without them we would pray less, seek God less, seek good advice from true friends less, etc.

How must we turn the obstacles into blessings: see them for what they are. Lessons can be learned, growth can occur, they can be the things that push you to that something better!!! Don't let obstacles become your downfall, let them become your stepping stone into the direction of better!!! Not even better, THE BEST.

Don't let things get you down because there has to be a blessing on the other side. I'm learning this myself. Take things as they are, pray for guidance, & watch & see what God can do on your behalf.

Yes, my friends, obstacles: the good & the bad. More importantly, THE GOOD.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/14/08

Scripture: Revelation 22:21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Nugget: This is the last scripture in the Bible. I don’t think I ever knew what it was. It’s the last thing mentioned after good number of other scriptures, so it has to be important! The scripture is a reminder that God’s grace is continually with us through Jesus. We must not forget the well-wishes it represents. No matter what’s going on, God’s grace remains with you; don’t forget what Jesus died & rose again for.

What Would Be Different?

In reading my Upper Room (Daily Devotional) a few days ago, the quote "live tomorrow as you would re-live today" was noted. I mean, what would I do differently? Each day is a 2nd chance to get the day before correct, right? There's so much that can be completed, so much that can be taken back (wrong words spoken, etc.), & more.

I know that there are days when I take things for granted. Probably everyday to be exact. But I'm learning to be more grateful for each day I get. Each day is an opportunity that someone didn't get to live or to see.

With this said, what would (or should) be different in your today that wasn't there or needs to be corrected in your yesterday? What would you do tomorrow that would be different from today? The best thing to do may be to start with that tomorrow stuff today!! Living each day as if it were your last; making it the best day that you can.

On another note, let's not forget the Veterans who stand & have stood to fight for us. Today is a day of remembrance, reflection, & appreciation for them. Happy Veterans Day!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/10/08

Scripture: Psalm 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Nugget: As a Floridian, I’ve seen various storms, including hurricanes, come through the state. The one thing I’ve noticed is that you rarely see a palm tree uprooted & thrown about during these storms. Palm trees bend & cater to the wind & heavy rains that arise.

This is how God wants us to be in our lives when we’re facing storms. When we experience things in our lives that we feel will either make us or break us, we must learn to bend & lean on God to handle the things that arise. God built us to experience many things, some will be good & some bad, but more importantly, He built us to lean & depend on Him. Bend like the Palms!!!!

Quote: “It is the nature of the strong heart, that like the palm tree it strives ever upwards when it is most burdened.” –Sir Philip Sidney

Why You Should.....

A good friend of mine bought tickets to the Kirk Franklin concert I mentioned in an earlier blog as my birthday gift. What a great time!!! These are the reasons why I think you should attend a Kirk Franklin concert.

For one thing, he's full of energy. He performed for 2 hours straight & the energy stayed the same from beginning to end. Secondly, you have no choice but to enjoy it. With the atmosphere & energy, you will not sit down for long; if anything, not at all!! Thirdly, he engages with the audience. I mean, he ran from the stage to the balcony, from the balcony back to the stage, & throughout the auditorium during his performance. It was something else because I didn't realize this little man (he will say that he's short!!) had so much enthusiasm for what he does. Of course, I've listened to the CDs & may have watched a few videos, but it's nothing like the live performance, in person. Lastly, you will get your money's worth. That's a rare thing to say now-a-days with the lip-synchers, etc. out there. There's more that can be said, but I'll let you find out on your own :)

I've been to various concerts in my life, but this one will move up into the top 2 as one of my favorites :) I enjoyed it & this gift was a great one!!! Thank you, Ms. A.H.!!!

Until next time.

President-Elect Barack Obama

Last night, we found out the 44th President of the United States will be Barack Obama. This election is truly historic! The first African-American President (as the news has been saying, although he's half-white & half-black). I never thought this would happen in my lifetime. I really thought there would be a woman President first. This election & the process it took for the outcome will be something we all can say we were a part of!!

History books will be changed based upon the road to this election alone! Not to mention all the new voters, first time voters, those who were registered & never voted, & those who are now political experts :) who are out there!!!

Welcome, Mr. President & the first family. Our prayers are with you & your new job! We needed the next thing to come in & give us the new direction we seek.

Until next time.

Election Day 2008!!!!

Election Day 2008 is finally here!!! Goodness, it seems like it took this day forever to arrive. This day is history in the making, regardless of the outcome. There are many first-time voters out there who are taking the steps to get out there & vote. A right that so many people have fought to have. That's why I cannot believe that there are those who still don't get out & vote!

We must realize that whoever wins, it's in God's hands & will. We must pray for whoever gets in office, because whoever gets in there will have a lot of work to do to make up for these past years! That's why we have to focus on God & not put our trust in man. God is the end-all & be-all.

On another note, let's keep the Obama family in our prayers. He lost his grandmother on yesterday; what a sad occurrence. I feel for him & his family. The good thing is, she got to see her grandson make history!!! She has to be smiling down, along w/ his mother & father.

Get out there & vote & be a part of this historical election. Many people's dreams are coming true by just getting out there & imagining the possibilities of what will happen. Be patient in the lines, be prepared to wait (have water bottles, umbrellas, magazines, etc.), & know that everyone will have to wait for his/her turn to cast the ballot! Everyone is there for the same reason: to place their ballot for the 2008 election.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/4/08

Scriptures: Psalm 119:71-72 71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. 72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver. (New King James Version)

Nugget: This psalmist was going through some things, some obstacles in life. He realized in the end, that whatever he was going through was for his good. The occurrences turned him closer to God, allowing him to learn God’s word & ways. It also taught him that nothing was more important than God’s law; basically, not to put anything above God.

Sometimes we go through things & wonder “Why me?”; sometimes God may answer, “Why not you?”. Things may be happening to turn you closer to God, to allow you to grow. Don’t miss the opportunity.

Quote: “Nothing happens to you as a Christian that is not designed to make you stronger. If you aren’t a Christian, then it happens to bring you closer to God.” –Pastor Charles Jones

Rough Week......

Last week was a rough week. Most of my friends know that I go into this job that I'm really over & really want to move on from. However, with the market being the way it is, I must count my blessings & be grateful that my bills are paid & I have a roof over my head!! This doesn't mean I don't have to pray myself through the minute, hour, day, or week at this place!! But it does mean that I must keep looking for that next better career move.

I guess I am learning more about praying & waiting, & waiting & praying. I know God puts us in situations to test our faith, to challenge us, & to develop us, but sometimes we have to ask, "Does it take all of this God?". I'm guessing the answer is "yes" considering I'm still there!! But I've learned also for God to reveal to me what He wants me to learn while I'm in my current job situation.

So, if you're in a current setting that you're trying to get out of or trying to get to that next thing (speaking of career-wise, educational-wise, & these sort of things), ask God to reveal to you what He wants for you to learn while you're still there. He may be working on that next thing for you, but wants you to develop certain characteristics to handle that next thing. Now sista-friends & gents, I'm not talking about bad relationships & stuff like that, but talking about that next thing that's going to enhance your personal & professional growth to the next level. For everything that occurs there is usually something that's being developed within you.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/3/08

Scriptures: I John 5:14:15 14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Nugget: These scriptures remind us that anything we ask of God we will receive if it’s according to His will. If our requests don’t fall in line with God, there’s a big chance we may not receive them or if we do, we realize that they aren’t the things we needed or really wanted in our lives.

When praying, also consider God’s will for your life & what you’re seeking. The things are solidified in His will!!

Quote: “Faith is that which, knowing the Lord's will, goes and does it; or, not knowing it, stands and waits, content in ignorance as in knowledge, because God wills - neither pressing into the hidden future, nor careless of the knowledge which opens the path of action.” –George MacDonald

Daily Scriptures 10/29/08

Scripture: Proverbs 26:1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

Nugget: There are some things that just do not go together; like snow in summer & rain during the harvest. This is the same with honor being a characteristic of a fool or someone who swears they are honorable & acts completely different.

Do you say you’re a certain way or have a certain characteristic & act completely different? Are things falling in line with what you perceive yourself to be? Sometimes I give myself a “reality check” when various situations arise to make sure I’m holding true to my self-analysis or need to make changes. Very interesting…

Quote: “Actions determine what kind of characteristics are developed.” –Aristotle

"For" & "About"

Recently in Bible Study, my Pastor mentioned how we pray "about" things/people & not "for" things/people. I began to think on these 2 words & realized I'm guilty of what he was saying!! How many times did I say I would pray "about" this thing or that thing, etc. & not pray "for" it? For some reason, I'm looking at "for" as taking a little more time to concentrate & focus on what I'm seeking from God. Maybe "for" is being a little bit more specific because it's being exact, it's knowing exactly what I want; "about" seems to be more round-a-about :) A little bit more general.

I looked up the 2 words in Webster's dictionary:

For: used as a function word to indicate purpose; used as a function word to indicate an intended goal

About: on the verge of; reasonably close to

So in looking at these definitions, I began to see that, yes, "for" is being more specific, you're stating a purpose for your prayers &/or requests. While with "about" it's touching on them but not exactly emphasizing that focus. We must take that extra step to zero in on that goal, that wish, that one thing that we're seeking.

And maybe there will be times when all we can do is pray "about" things and God works them out in the long run. Because I know that there are some things that only God brought to my remembrance to pray about!!!

Just some thoughts to think on :) Check out your "fors" & "abouts"!!!!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/27/08

Scriptures: Matthew 7:1-2 1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Nugget: Oh, how easy it is for us to judge others. How soon we forget the things we’ve done & what God has forgiven us for. Whatever judgment we dish out will be returned in some way (remember we all have to answer to God).

My Pastor says something along the lines of, “we’ve forgotten how we were before we gave our lives to the Lord.” For instance, we’ve forgotten what we went through & what we had to do to get to where we are now. We weren’t always “saved” (& many people state to be & aren’t!!).

I always say, “Treat others how you want to be treated”. Maybe this should also be, “Judge others how you want to be judged”.

Quote: “It is much more difficult to judge oneself, than to judge others.” –Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"Fireproof": The Movie

As a b-day gift, a friend treated me to the movie "Fireproof" starring Kirk Cameron (yes, Mike Seaver from "Growing Pains"). I heard so many good things about the movie, so it was on my "must see" list.

The movie was really good. I won't tell the story, but the movie makes you think about relationships, what we take for granted, how people change, what comes with this, & our relationship w/ the Lord. The messages were good & you'll walk away with something from the movie; that little "take-a-away" that will leave you thinking.

If you get an opportunity, check it out whenever you get a chance (whether on DVD or in the theatre). You can check out the trailer here:

Until next time.

Learning to Relax...

I've been on "vacation" for the last few days from work. I'm learning the importance of relaxing & sitting still (somewhat). We all need that break from time-to-time to recoup & to release the stress that work & life brings.

Usually when I have a day or two off, the days fly by, but these days have actually gone by slowly (YES!!). I've had time to do me! Get caught up w/ friends & other things. It's amazing how we will let life roll by & wonder what happened to the time.

Don't let life pass you by without enjoying the fruits of your labor. There's a time to work & a time to play; there has to be a balance. Yes, it's okay to want more in life, but enjoy the things you are working towards & for. Sit back & look at that TV you paid big bucks for, take a look in your closet for the outfit you probably have never worn, go to the movies, spend time w/ that person you've been meaning to, & the list can go on & on......

Enjoy life!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/23/08

Scripture: Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

Nugget: In scriptures prior to this one, the disciples asked Jesus various questions regarding a fig tree that withered away. They wanted to know why certain things happen, etc. Well, this is how it is with us. At times, we may not understand what’s going on & why, but we must have the faith to know that God understands what’s going on & why. He understands the end-all & be-all. Our faith has to be in the right place to BELIEVE & RECEIVE what He has for us.

I’m not saying that this faith is easy, but I believe that things happen for us to examine, test, & build our faith. Faith is KNOWING that everything will be alright, while hope is THINKING that it will be alright. Which one is it for you?

Quotes: “But every act in consequence of our faith, strengthens faith.” –Aikin Barbauld

“FAITH, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks.” –Ambrose Bierce

Wow, B-day is Here!!!!

I've been counting down to my b-day on the blog counter & now it's here. Is it any different than yesterday or the day before?? I think the main difference may be that it allows me to reflect on past years & makes me think.

Wow, the big 3-0, the 20+10. Hmmm, so much has happened during this time. First steps, first words, kindergarten, grade school, middle, & high schools. Let's not forget the first love, driver's license, college, graduations, & more. There's so much to think on!!

What will the next milestones ahead bring? I'm sure so much more. Maybe this is some sort of turning point. I mean, the 20s are over; I've learned many lessons there. Not ones that I want to keep relearning & repeating, but ones that I want to carry with me in order to do better, to be better, to continue to grow. Yes, mistakes were made, but mistakes make me who I am & then some.

Yes, birthdays are a time of reflection, but a time of joy as well. There are so many people who haven't made it to the next birthday, so many babies who haven't seen the first birthday. In this essence, so many people should count their blessings rather than seeing a birthday as getting "older" rather than becoming WISER.

I'm grateful to have made it this far. I loved my 20s, although things weren't always good. By the grace of God, I made it through!!! I'm looking forward to what is to come, while remembering what has passed as a blessed part of my life. I couldn't ask for more.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/20/08

Scripture: Job 12:15 If he holds back the rain, the earth becomes a desert. If he releases the waters, they flood the earth. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me of life, sometimes there’s so much going on & coming at us, that it feels like continual rain. Other times, it feels like nothing is coming our way, so there’s a complete drought. However, this is also a reminder that there is a balance as well: there will be good days & bad days, but God is the balance that brings it all together.

If we don’t have the rain, we don’t appreciate the sunshine. If we don’t have the sunshine, we don’t appreciate the rain. Maybe this is what God wants us to see with life: the bad times make us appreciate the good, while the good makes us remember the lessons of the bad that comes our way. All in all, we truly can’t have one without the other.

Quote: “Behind the clouds is the sun still shining; Thy fate is the common fate of all, Into each life some rain must fall.” –Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Daily Scriptures 10/17/08

Scripture: Proverbs 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: There is power in what we say; as it’s been said “there’s power in the tongue”. The thing is, if we chose to speak life or death into a situation—positivity or negativity. And most of us know, if you give someone enough rope, they will put themselves out of the running. Ex) the person who doesn’t know when to be quiet.

Guard your words, focus on what you speak into your life & the lives of others. There’s a lot to consider when you speak!

Quote: “Know that a word suddenly shot from the tongue is like an arrow shot from the bow. That arrow won't turn back on its way.” –Mevlana Rumi

Daily Scriptures 10/15/08

Scripture: Psalm 146:2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: There are so many people who would love to be in your shoes: to be alive one more day! Many just want to thank God one more time, to sing praises to Him, but are unable to do so.

Don’t take your life or the days God gives you for granted. In these times, be sure to praise Him for all He’s done and all that He’s doing. Life is too precious.

Quote: “You have to sing the song of your heart. You have to dance your dance. You have to be utterly individual, not an imitation, not a carbon copy. You have to bring out your original face. The moment you are able to reveal your original face to the world, your life will be fulfilled. Tremendous joy arises out of it.” -Unknown

For My Singletons, Part 2

I came across this quote recently:

It's not until you learn to truly enjoy being single that the right person will finally come along. –Christina Pagliarulo

It's so true; learning how to be a complete individual before that person comes into your life. I've heard so many times, "he completes me" or "she completes me", but isn't a relationship about 2 complete individuals coming together? So many people think that the happiness doesn't exist until that other person arrives. Aren't you supposed to be "living" and "doing your thang" before they get there???

I think that so many people get caught up in the fairytales they teach & tell us while growing up. Now I love a fairytale, but I completely believe that relationships, let alone marriage, are a lot of work & compromise. AND some people stay focused on that fairytale instead of paying attention to what's really going on: be complete & happy with yourself before you think you can be complete & happy with another person. Because of regardless of what you may think, after the wedding, you have to go home with this person & continue the "fairytale".

I'm all for love & finding the one, but I had to make sure I got myself to a place of being complete within my mind, heart, body, & with God, because until I got to this point, I wouldn't accept what God would send my way.

I could go on & on, but the rest may be for another time. :)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/13/08

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 10:12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

Nugget: There’s nothing like wisdom & knowledge. These 2 things will get you far in life; also, the wisdom of wise people around you. That’s why it’s best not to seek advice from everyone. Some people will definitely lead you in the wrong direction. Just think on it, some of the “foolish” decisions you’ve made that dug a deeper hole; well the advice of the foolish will make the hole even deeper.

Follow God, the knowledge & wisdom He’s given you, & the advice of wise people.

"The Game" is Getting Good

One thing I can truly say about one of my favorite shows, "The Game", is that they know how to start a season. Last season ended with the possibility of Melanie & Derwin reuniting. This season began with them getting together. Yes, happy times, for a moment. There is now "baby-mama-drama" on the horizon with Derwin's ex stating that she's pregnant with Derwin's child.

The show is a good one that doesn't get much publicity. We know that the CW cut a lot of shows when the merger occurred, so I'm guessing that this has something to do with it. But, there is the move to Friday nights; this doesn't really help considering most people are not at home on Friday evenings. However, if you've missed the show, try to catch an episode & see what you think!!! Me, loving it :) You can watch episodes online @ http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video/the-game

Until next time.

I'm learning to be open to possibilities. There are so many things & people that we close out of our lives because it/they may not come in the way we what it/them to. I'm not referring to the things & people that we should remove from our lives because we know they need to go, but those things that we never consider because of close-mindedness or us blocking our own blessings.

For instance, many people did not originally set out to teach, but are wonderful teachers & have found their callings. This is much better than being stuck in a job that he/she does not really like based upon something they chose to ignore in their hearts that they felt was not right from the beginning.

While listening to Steve Harvey on his show the other day, he mentioned, "Are you giving God something to work with?" Meaning, we may be praying for something & want something so bad, but what are you doing to get it? Are you praying & sitting around? Or is your blessing right there while you're choosing not to see the possibility right in front of you?

These are just a few thoughts on possibilities. I know there are many things I've possibly not considered, but when they arrived they were true blessings to me. Don't miss the blessing that could be right in front of you or the possibility that will bring it to you!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/9/08

Scripture: Jeremiah 7:8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

Nugget: We know that someone will always talk about us and always have something to say. Some of this talking will consist of lies and other non-truths. The best way to handle a lie is to let it “roll off your back”. I’ve always said, “People should have the tendency to ignore lies, because they already know it’s not true and pay attention to the truth because they know that it’s right.”

Basically, focusing on lies and those that are telling them do not profit in the end!

Quote: “The truth, unlike lies, require no embellishment.” –Michael Mencias

Thoughts for Today

In thinking on yesterday & this week, I'm reminded of my waiting period: waiting for God to bring His promises to pass. Now, if anyone knows me, waiting is not my forte. However, I'm getting more complacent with it. But my test is my job, so I'm praying for God to teach me what I'm supposed to learn during this period while I'm in the current job situation.

If you're waiting on something to happen, pray for what you're supposed to learn in your current situation(s). There has to be some lesson there, some reason for the wait. Sometimes we get so caught up in the negative aspects of the "wait" that we forget there's something positive in it. Believe me, sometimes finding the good side of it all helps to make it through.

On another note, my prior poll results showed Fall/Autumn as the favorite season :) Yay!! As for the poll on reading the Bible, it was 50/50 for "once a week" and "5+ times a week". Okay guys, we gotta get busy getting God's word in us. That's the only way to make it through everything that's going on today!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/8/08

Scripture: Isaiah 25:1 O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

Nugget: God’s hands are working out wonderful things for you. The things He’s already done have come to pass & they were planned out long ago. So whatever He’s planned for you back then will come into play now. It’s all in His timing; He’s faithful & true to His promises.

Words of Encouragement

These past few weeks have been a little tough in the workplace. In reading my T.D. Jakes Woman Thou Art Loosed Bible, I came across this:

"When It Seems Too Late" by T.D. Jakes

God, I have prayed for years. I have done everything I know to do in order to see my dreams come true. I have had seasons of working hard and seasons of "letting go and letting God" and, still, the things I have believed You for seem like they will never happen. I have had one disappointment after another. And it's almost too late.

I feel like Sarah---like it is impossible for me to ever hold the one thing I long for most.

God, do not let me miss my destiny! But do not let me hope for things that are not a part of Your plan for my life. Let me hear Your voice telling me what You really have for me. Give me glimpses of the gifts You have for me so that I might fight with faith to apprehend Your promises. Help me to understand the difference between what I must go after and what I must wait on You for. When it is up to me, give me the strength to demolish doubt and to march fearlessly into the new day You have prepared for me. When I must wait on You, give me grace and patience. Fill me with the holy anticipation that accompanies a perfectly timed present.

They say You are never, ever late. God, in these days when it seems like time is pressing in around me on every side, keep me firm in faith. Save me from giving up. Do not let me stop short of my blessing. Thank You for being faithful. Always faithful. It is never too late with You.

This was right on time for me. I hope it encourages someone. Wait on God and see what He's trying to tell you & what direction He's trying to allow you to go in. Don't give up! Give it to God.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/6/08

Scripture: Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this, the lord/master gave his servants money to make into more. This particular servant doubled what his lord originally gave. Therefore, the lord was pleased.

It’s the same way with God, when He gives us what we consider a little and do well with that, He wants to bless us more. Many don’t appreciate what they currently have or their current status, but expect so much more. Do you want a new car?? Do you keep the current one clean? Do you want a better job?? Do you show up on time for your current job? Do you want a brand new house, but keep your current one in disarray?

God wants us to appreciate our current blessings! Being faithful in small things can definitely produce many things!

Quote: “I remember hearing in a talk that the more we express our gratitude to God for our blessings, the more he will bring to our mind other blessings. The more we are aware of to be grateful for, the happier we become.” –Ezra Taft Benson

"The Game" is Back!!

Friday is here & one of my favorite shows, "The Game", is back on tonight!! I've been waiting for this since the season finale. For those who haven't seen the show, it stars Tia Mowry (of "Sister, Sister") & Pooch Hall as Melanie & Derwin. The basis of the show is their relationship & the trials that come along with it & the football industry. Last season they went through some stuff, so this season should be very interesting. You may be able to catch past episodes online!

Also on the show are Wendy Raquel Robinson (of the "Steve Harvey Show), Brittany Daniels (she played one of the twins on the "Sweet Valley High" TV Show), Hosea Chanchez, & Coby Bell.

So if you like football, the twists & turns of relationships, & laughs along the way, check out the show. It premieres tonight @ 8:30p (eastern) on the CW.

You can check out the show's website here

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/3/08

Scripture: Proverbs 11:1 The Lord detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: Have you ever gotten on a scale that has been completely off or not in balance??? Imagine how that made you feel, especially if it added more weight on! God is the same way; He doesn’t want us off balance in the things we do, the way we act, the things we say, etc. He looks for accuracy.

What are you doing to get off balance & what are you doing to stay in balance?

Quote: “Balance is the perfect state of still water. Let that be our model. It remains quiet within and is not disturbed on the surface.” -Confucius

October is Here!

Yes, my favorite month has arrived. Okay, it's my birthday month, but it's also the time when the weather changes a little more & if I were up North I would see the leaves changing. That's nothing but beautiful.

So yesterday was the 1st & what a crazy day it was. The day before, my signals (or as I call them "blinkers") went out on my car. A few months ago, a friend backed into my car in the parking lot, so I figured this new glitch could have something to do with the repair that was completed by the shop. Needless to say, it didn't. Therefore my check I just received (refer back to previous blog "A Paid Writer") is now gone due to paying for the repairs. Aaaaahhhhh. I was too frustrated with the turn of yesterday's events. I really wanted to save the money, give to church, & get myself something (at least one thing) nice! As one of my friends once said, that's why they call it "cash flow". Yes all, it comes & goes. Mine definitely went out as fast as it arrived.

During my frustration, I spoke to a few sista friends & my cousin. And that truly helped. I try to be positive most days, so for me to have this crazy day, I was trying to hold onto that. But we're all human! However, they were able to help me see the good in the situation. I had the funds to get the repair done & have other blessings to count.

Wednesday night is Bible Study, so once I got home I was contemplating not going because of the day's events. But I went, and everything Pastor spoke on was speaking right to me. The songs sang by the Praise Team were right on time. I absolutely needed Bible Study! A bit of advice: if you're feeling down, don't have a pity party for too long. Do something &/or talk to someone that will help bring you up. Because in the midst of "crazy" days, there is at least one blessing. I know when the craziness is going on, it's hard to see, but it's so very true & most times, things work out.

Maybe the 2nd day of October will be better than the 1st!! But I'll accept the 1st for what it was & keep moving on. Today wasn't guaranteed & I want to make the best of it :)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/1/08

Scriptures: Isaiah 57:20-21 20“But those who still reject me are like the restless sea, which is never still but continually churns up mud and dirt. 21There is no peace for the wicked,” says my God. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: We know that evil exists along with the good. However, with evil there will be no peace; there’s a constant feeling of instability and restlessness. At times it may feel like the wicked and evil are getting away with everything, but those who experience God’s peace know that there’s nothing like it! We have a source of peace that surpasses everything; even the wickedness of these times.

Quote: “The hardest fact in the world to accept is the inevitable mixture of evil with good in all things.” –Austin O’Malley

A Paid Writer

Yes, got the check for my first freelance writing gig!!! Thanks Black America Web. There's nothing like getting paid for what you love to do because I would've done it for the writing credit alone. I'm definitely praying for more open doors because we all know it's rough out there!!!

So my next step is to continue working on my book. This is no easy task because, at times, the writing bug hits me & then it goes away (I know, you wouldn't think this from my blog posts!!), but it's true. I guess it depends on what my writing mood is & the topic. I just want to do the best I can. Having a published book is on my "bucket list".

Now what is a "bucket list" you may ask. It's the list of things you want to do or really would like to do in your lifetime. It's the things you've been putting off until "later" or "when you have the time". Well all, get to it & start checking off the dreams, desires, & wishes on that list because the next day is not guaranteed. Also, check out the movie, "The Bucket List" with Morgan Freeman. It's great!!

Daily Scriptures 9/30/08

Scripture: Proverbs 14:5 An honest witness does not lie; a false witness breathes lies.

Nugget: We’ve all heard that honesty is the best policy. I take this as, “Honesty will get you further than lying”. We all know that one lie turns into another at some point; it’s a snowball effect. Try honesty & see how far it goes; there’s nothing like it.

Daily Scriptures 9/29/08

Scripture: II Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Nugget: So many of us open our Bibles on Sunday or Saturday &/or at Bible Study only. We must study to show ourselves approved to God; we should be feeding ourselves God’s word daily!! It’s the only way to fight the battles that arise in our lives. Keep God’s word as a constant flow of information into your mind & heart.

Looking Back to Look Forward

The past....there's so much to say about it. It molds who we are, it molds who we become, it hinders some, it allows some to grow..... What is it for you????

I've had a few conversations with friends & family about past experiences. I've learned so much, but one of the things at the top of the list is that your past does not have to become your future. We think that we may become our parents or a not-so-good product of the environment we grew up in. It's the reality that we knew & came to expect. However, how are you using the past to help you in your future? Because if you're letting your past continue to use you, then where's the growth? The self-improvement?

So many people hang on to the past & it gets them nowhere. BUT if you can look at the past & learn & grow from it, then that's a good thing. If you can look at the past hurts, pains, & people who hurt you, then you can move on.

Only in America can you come from a background of proverty or one that seemed "rough" & become "something" or "someone". You can get that education you seek, that dream job you want, that house-on-the-hill. Yes, even with the economy the way it is!!! Because, believe me, I know people who are still doing all of this in the midst of this ecomonic downfall!

You may ask, "Where do I start?". "Somewhere" is the answer. Check yourself & realize the things/people that have hurt you or continue to hurt you, think on the things you've overcome & learned from, where are the areas that you can still grow, write a letter to the person who's hindering/hurt you to let it go. (I've tried it, & you may be doing it more for yourself than for the person because they may have no clue as to where you're coming from!). But DO YOU & see what happens. Don't let the past hold you back from the something better in your life.

Start somewhere & see what happens.

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.

Until next time.

Next Movie: "The Secret Life of Bees"

"The Secret Life of Bees" is on the list of my next must-see movies. It stars Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, & Sophie Okonedo. What a talented cast!! We've all seen Dakota grow up; so much knowledge in a young person.

The movie's synopsis is:

"The moving tale of Lily Owens, a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna."

The movie trailer:

The release date is October 17th.

Until next time.

What's Going On??

What exactly is going on with the world today?? Here in America alone, we face job losses, a down economy, & more. What exactly will happen to make things get "back to normal". Personally, I believe it will take a lot of time. However, a lot of what is happening is stated throughout the Bible. We must remember to put our faith in God & not in man.

No matter who becomes president (off subject, this is one of the presidential races that will go down in history), we must know that God has control of all. That's why we have to stay prayed up in the midst of all that's going on, otherwise these various things (economy, job losses, etc.) will drive us crazy.

Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

God is in control & has the final say-so. This is what keeps me going during these hard times!

Until next time.

A Bit Discouraged...

I mainly try to keep positivity in my grasp. However, there are those few moments when I allow the wrong thoughts to come into my mind. I say "allow" because we are in control of what we think & what we do, so yesterday was my day to get discouraged about my job hunt for better employment.

However, I had to catch myself & find out where this thought came from. Someone I know said, "You've been saying that for years" when I mentioned seeking a better job. Hmmmm. Yes, I have & that's why I went to school to get an advanced degree: for opportunities for the better. Now we know not to let people speak negativity to us, now don't we? I'm so glad that I have positive thinking to combat the negative that people will bring.

Also, we must always "call things that be not as though they were" (Romans 4:17). So if you're seeking something, keep praying, stay steadfast, & if you're the only one seeing the vision, then so-be-it. You have to hang onto mustard seed faith in many situations because that's the only thing that will get you through.

There's a song one of my friend's sings @ church (thanks Alysha!!) called "Encourage Yourself" by Sheri Jones-Moffett. Here's a video of Sheri singing the song:

It's an awesome song!! Be encouraged & faithful.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/25/08

Scripture: Psalm 120:6 I am tired of living among people who hate peace. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: Once you get to the point where you are seeking continual peace in your life, you don’t want to be surrounded by anything or anyone to the contrary. Being at peace clears your mind for prayer, guidance, direction & more; examine those things that take peace from you & focus on those things that bring you peace.

Daily Scriptures 9/24/08

Scripture: Jeremiah 6:10 To whom can I give warning? Who will listen when I speak? Their ears are closed, and they cannot hear. They scorn the word of the Lord. They don’t want to listen at all. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: How many times have you been given advice & you just wouldn’t listen? Or if you were listening, you weren’t truly hearing what was being said? We tend to let good advice fall on deaf ears when we “want to do what we want to do”! However, a “hard head makes a soft behind” as my mom would say.

Take heed to good advice, seek it, & try to implement it into your life. You know those who are truly trying to give you the advice you need (& sometimes the advice you may not want to hear).

Big Blessings in Little Bundles

I'm experiencing a lot of friends who are becoming first-time mothers & fathers. I got to hold one of my oldest & dearest friend's son today. He is too adorable!! I know that she's wanted to be a mother from day 1, so this little bundle is a tremendous blessing to her, her husband, family, & friends.

For my other mommy-to-be & daddy-to-be friends, I know that a lot is on the way for them. They are truly good people with experiences that will mold them & prepare them to be good parents. Too many times today we hear about teen pregnancies, people abandoning their children, & more. We seldom hear the good in the parenting realm.

It's good to be surrounded by people who see the blessings in what they have. It allows me to see that there are better examples than I was faced with in my parents. The past does not determine the future & we truly don't have to be our parents. I don't know if I will be a parent, but if God has this in store for me, I'm grateful to the concrete people I have in my circle & will wait for the good man God has for me to take this journey with me.

Congrats, guys & gals. May God continue to bless you. You are a blessing to me for allowing me to be a part of this next journey in your lives. Auntie/Cousin/Sister-in-Christ (insert name here) is here for the little ones & you :)

Until next time.

This year is flying by....Fall is here!

My goodness, can you believe that it's the 1st day of Fall!! Although we don't see the weather changing too much in Florida, I love this time of the year! It gets to the point where it's not too hot or not too cold :)

But yes, it's already September. I look back on the goings-on for this year and I can say that's it's been good so far. It's been crazy too (as far as the economy, etc.), but I have to count my blessings: food, clothing, water, somewhere to live, friends, family, etc.

For those who made New Year's Resolutions, double check your lists; time is running thin. LOL. But seriously, enjoy each day. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Happy Fall!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/22/08

Scripture: Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Nugget: God did not design man to be alone. He created a woman just for Adam. He has the same plan for most of us; those who are waiting for their other half, continue to do so. Allow God to bring them your way. As Pastor says, “They may come in a package you least expect”.

Do You Know Jesus???

Today & every Sunday you'll find me in church. It wasn't always this way, but now it is. I pray for everyone to get to know Jesus!!! He died for us when He didn't have to. God sent Him down to die for our sins in order for us to be saved.

John 3:16-17 states: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The Christian walk is an on-going process. So many people think that they have to be perfect before coming to the Lord (I thought this!). I wanted to get this right & get this out of the way before I accepted Him into my life, but that's not how it works. We must come to God as we are & He continues to work on us. We are all a "work in progress"!! He will start the process for the changed person you wish to be.

If you are in doubt about what direction to take, Pray. God could be calling you, but are you listening? If you think you have to be perfect, no one really is: come as you are. If you are trying to find a home-church, don't give up. If you need prayer, there are many who will pray for you & are praying on your behalf right now.

Continue to seek God, He is not lost. He is in range & is waiting with open arms for you.

May God bless all you do & your walk with Him. I'll keep you uplifted in continual prayer :)

Until next time,

For My Singletons....

Why is it that so many people feel that they can say anything to single people? I know what my pregnant friends feel like, in a sense. For those who are expecting or have given birth, they hear some strange stuff: "Can I touch your belly?", "How much weight have you gained?", "Are you having twins?" (When you aren't!).

Yes, being single gives people what they consider "free reign." We hear everything from: "When are you getting married?" to "Why are you single?" What I've learned is to ignore the ones who are negative & to enjoy this time in my life. Yes, this is the season I'm in & is exactly where I'm supposed to be. Once this season passes, I cannot go back & the next one will start.

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Be content with who and what you are before you can be with someone else. Many people want the relationships & the marriage, but they aren't completely happy with who they are; they do not love themselves. They feel that another person will complete them, but aren't we all complete individuals? Don't 2 separate, but complete, individuals come together to make a couple???

Another bit of advice, seek wisdom from older people who have been there & done that. Those who have experience & can lead you in the right direction. I have this in my adoptive mothers & my male role models (love you guys!!). But DO NOT seek advice from someone who has a bad track record & continues to make the same bad choices over & over & tries to speak "wisdom" in your life. I repeat, keep walking!!

Enjoy the time of your life that you're in. Once it passes, there's no going back. If you're a Singleton out there, get out, date, spend quality time with the ones you love & yourself, travel, volunteer...... DO SOMETHING. Don't waste the time you have because it can be the most enjoyable time of your life!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/18/08

Scripture: Haggai 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

Nugget: So many times people get caught up in material possessions and the things they own. How soon they forget that God is the one who invented everything; if He didn’t invent it, then He’s definitely the one who gave people the gift to invent it!

Material possessions are temporary; get to know the Creator of all things.

Quote: “To reach the System of GOD, one must let go and get beyond all systems ever invented by human. Then you realize so much nonexistence is existent. And so much existence is nonexistent.” –Rinon Hoxha

Jury Duty, Part 2.....

Okay all, I just returned home from doing my civic duty: jury duty. It was an all day thing! I wasn't chosen for the jury. However, I was not too upset about that. What a day: legal jargon, hard benches to sit on, security checks & more. I did meet some interesting people though :) I can say this for sure, there are only a few reasons I want to visit the courthouse in the future: my marriage license, for a Passport renewal, or adoption (if I chose to adopt one day). I don't feel that jury duty is my thing. But that doesn't mean "they" won't find me again.......

Also, I give the judicial system some credit. At least we get the opportunity to a trial by jury & one w/ an outcome that entails us to give our side of the story. Yes, in the midst of this crazy, long, exhausting day, there is a silver lining. God bless America!!!

Until next time.

Jury Duty!!!!

Oh guys, "they've" found me. I've been under the "jury duty radar" for years!! Yes, I got the summons in the mail to report & today is the day. They call it our civil duty; okay, we'll see how this goes.

I remember when I was little most people didn't register to vote because they thought they'd get jury duty. Funny, those same people feel that way now. However, "they" will find you by your driver's license, car registration, etc. So, if you haven't registered to vote because of this, please register!! Call 1-866-MY-VOTE-1 to do so. Every vote counts. AND don't forget to do your research on the candidates; vote with knowledge on your side.

Wish me luck on this experience. Maybe my # won't come up today :)

Until next time.

Uplifting Thoughts.....

As you can see, I've began publishing the "Daily Scriptures" on my blog. I usually send them out in emails, but everyone needs an uplifting word!!! I pray that you check them out & they help somehow during your day/week/etc.

There is so much power in the words that we speak & think. You know how far negativity can get you; you think one negative thought & it snowballs into more. I find that one of the most difficult things to do is to not complain when things are going a certain way (yes, I had the Monday Blues yesterday, so I had to combat that!). With this said, there has to be more positive to combat the negative.

Regardless of the situation going on, music does help. I find that my "fighter" songs are "Survivor" by Destiny's Child (yes, I'm a fan!), a few of Mary, Mary hits like "Incredible", & the whole Kirk Franklin "Hero" CD (you have to check this one out!).

Speaking of Kirk Franklin, if you're a fan in the Central Florida Area, he will be in concert on Nov. 7, 2008 @ Northland Church in Longwood, FL. You can find more info here

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/16/08

Scripture: Jeremiah 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Nugget: Many people believe that they are “self-made”; they don’t believe that someone else is in control of their lives. Too bad they don’t know that God is the one who directs everything: our steps, paths, and plans. Of course we have to be working (faith without works is dead), but God is the one who leads us into what He’s called us to do.

Quote: “There is a gift available to all of us-the gift of looking to God for direction. Here is an avenue of strength, comfort, and guidance. . . . "Look to God and live." This is the wonderful promise given so often in the scriptures. . . . Our capacity to see and comprehend is increased only in proportion to our willingness to look. God becomes more approachable as we look to him.” –Marvin J. Ashton

Daily Scriptures 9/15/08

Nugget: We’ve all been through something or are going through something where all we can do is call on God. In these situations, we want Him to rescue us or show us some sign of deliverance in a hurry! There’s nothing wrong with calling on God during these times; most times He is the only one who can help.

If there’s something going on that you are looking for answers/etc., have you tried God?

Quote: “If we seek first the Kingdom of God and live as we should, all the rest of life seems to fall into place and wonderful things happen.” –David B. Haight
