GO MAGIC!!!!!!

The Orlando Magic are headed to the NBA Finals after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 103-90 win at home in Game 6 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

This is in the headlines of the Orlando Sentinel today!!!! GO MAGIC!!!!!! The men in blue and white brought it home yesterday at the Amway Arena. I am mainly a football fan, but I learned a lot about basketball this season & even went to a Magic game. They worked so hard & we fans are so excited. This is the first time since 1995 that they've made it to the title rounds. The Finals begin in L.A. on Thursday night versus the L.A. Lakers. I will be watching!!!!
Here's the schedule:
Game 1 - Thu., June 4, Orlando at L.A. Lakers, 9 p.m., ABC
Game 2 - Sun., June 7, Orlando at L.A. Lakers, 8 p.m., ABC
Game 3 - Tue., June 9, L.A. Lakers at Orlando, 9 p.m., ABC
Game 4 - Thu., June 11, L.A. Lakers at Orlando, 9 p.m., ABC
Game 5 - * Sun., June 14, L.A. Lakers at Orlando, 8 p.m., ABC
Game 6 - * Tue., June 16, Orlando at L.A. Lakers, 9 p.m., ABC
Game 7 - * Thu., June 18, Orlando at L.A. Lakers, 9 p.m., ABC

This is a snippet of an article by Brian Schmitz (Orlando Sentinel):

Two summers ago, Dwight Howard — the No. 1 draft pick in 2004 the Magic received after compiling a league-worst 21-61 record — predicted the Magic would win a title."Everybody laughed," Howard said. "I mean everyone."

And last summer, when Dwight Howard joined Cavs megastar LeBron James and others on the gold-medal winning Olympic team, Howard was greeted with similar reactions when he talked up the Magic."They all said, 'Yeah, right, Dwight," he recalls. Dwight was right.

Needless to say, it's no laughing matter now!! Take it all the way Magic. You've earned it!!!!
Until next time.

Okay, I'm so over my computer right now. Is it possible to be on your computer all day, work on your blog, & try to update/change it, & end up right where you started??? I didn't know it was so difficult to add another column to my blog, to change the template, & add tools! It's so crazy.

Needless to say, I updated everything & had it "ready to go", but the blogger system deleted majority of my postings & kept the archives!! AAAAAAHHHHHHH. So, my blog will pretty much remain unchanged at this time. I think I have to laugh at it all! LOL Otherwise, I will be frustrated about it.

If anyone has any tips, please let me know. (The blog template I worked so hard on was so pretty *smile*)

Well, I'm finally logging off. Going to watch the Magic play! Go Magic.

Until next time,

2 Months Later....

I'm so excited. It'll be 2 months tomorrow since I moved into my new home. Today, I finally hung artwork & pictures on the walls. It's coming along nicely. I have more decorating to do, but it will be over time. A few of my newly hung items are shown!! The crosses state, "faith", "love" and "believe" on them. I just love inspirational & motivational things & people around me. I must thank my friend, Ms. R.W., for helping me get these things in order, because she knows a lot about decorating, etc. :) I am proud of myself for the artwork I chose though! AND I still have another piece of framed artwork on its way from Michaels.

It does feel good to be in my own place. I have to get used to a few things, but I can't complain. I actually just unpacked my first box of drinking glasses I purchased!! LOL, I usually use plastic cups!! I have yet to have a housewarming & not sure when or if I will. I think a nice get-together of friends may work for me. Just to celebrate & have a good time.

A few more families are moving nearby, so the neighborhood is growing. I know that they have to be excited as well. There's nothing like having your own.

Guess I'll figure out what my next decorating avenue will be. I'm in no hurry, but I can't wait to see the end product one day.
Until next time.

Lately, I've been focusing more on enjoying this life that God has given me. For we all should know, that nothing is guaranteed. I think that each day, there should be so much to be thankful for that we should have no reason to be down. But unfortunately, this is not always the case.

How do we do this? Enjoy? Be joyful? For some, achieve that happiness???? We have to live each moment! There's so much that I "put off for tomorrow" or "decide to wait" to do, that it turns into months & sometimes years going by!

Pastor mentioned the other day in Bible Study, that there is a difference between happiness & joy. He said, "Happiness is how we feel based upon what happens to us, but joy is peace in God". This is so very true because many people put their happiness in things, people, & circumstances, but joy in God is knowing that we KNOW that God is in control & that our peace comes from Him.

With this being said, don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today. Don't do anything or have anyone in your life that is taking away from the joy that God wants you to have.

LIVE!! Enjoy, today is now. Tomorrow may not come.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/28/09

Scripture: Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Nugget: We all know that wrath & anger are a powerful combination; we can do some things we thought we’d never do when we’re angry. But jealousy is a whole entity by itself; just think of the times when someone was jealous of you & what they did during those times!!

We must pray always--certain emotions can be the driving force for evil. We must continually stay in God’s presence.

Quote: “In jealousy there is more of self-love, than of love to another.” –Duc de La Rochefoucauld

Daily Scriptures 5/27/09

Scripture: Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. (NIV)

Nugget: The Apostle Paul did what God called him to do: preach the gospel of Christ. He did this until his last day. We must also spread God’s word and do what He’s called us to do. This also includes using the gifts that He has placed in us.

We must finish our races, complete our tasks, and live each day like it’s the last one filled with opportunities.

Quote: “Men and women who turn their lives over to God will find out that he can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace. Whoever will lose his life to God will find he has eternal life.” –Ezra Taft Benson

Why You Should: Go on a Cruise!!!!

I went on a cruise this past weekend to celebrate a sista friend's birthday!! My first cruise. It was an awesome time on the Carnival Imagination. The staff was friendly, the food was great (I really have to find out where the fruit came from!!!), the entertainment was nice, & the whole experience is one that I will remember.

I am one that suffers from slight motion sickness, but it was nothing a little Bonine couldn't cure!!! We stopped over in Nassau, Bahamas & spent $ at the Straw Market. (I just love the Caribbean & the atmosphere). We got a chance to go on the Glass Bottom Boat Tour where we saw what the ocean floor looked like: there's such beauty there. The starfish and the various colored fish that I couldn't tell you the names of!

The one thing that I'm still laughing about is one woman who "sang" Karyoke ("Staying Alive"); I will never hear that song the same way again. She was saying, "AAAHHH AAAHHH AAAHHH Staying Alive" in some high pitch note that Mariah Carey would wonder what it was!!! It was too funny.

We got served breakfast and dinner; there was nothing like it. AND, I'm one who's glued to her cell phone, so with International Rates being a part of this trip, I had my phone off for 3 days!!! I survived though!!!! By the end of day one, I didn't miss it. This cruise was a true opportunity to get away, relax, enjoy, get caught up on sleep, & enjoy the presence of friends.

I tell you, go on a cruise: you'll love it. I'm planning my next one for next year.

Until next time.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Please let us remember the importance of today. Let us remember those who have died for us & for our country, those who continue to fight for us, & those who have fought. These veterans deserve so much more than what we give.

I think that it's so easy for us to get caught up in today being a "day off from work", that we forget what it stands for. Let us focus on the importance of recognition, prayer, & reflection.

God bless!!!

Until next time.

"The Game" Update

Word has it that CW cancelled my show, "The Game". I'm disappointed & hope that it gets picked up by another network. I know that many people will be disappointed as well.

I guess that CW is definitely aiming for another audience with the remaining shows. I am tired of the shows that are remaining on the air; there are few and far between. Guess I will definitely be at the library getting more books because I love to read!

I'm just glad that "The Game" got a Season Finale that could be the end of the show or the beginning of another season. There are so many shows that didn't receive this.

Until next time.

Yay!!!!!!!!!! I mailed the final payment for my credit card today. What a great feeling. It has taken me a little bit of time, but I am not complaining now. It's good to see that zero balance. I will definitely be saving the $ elsewhere.

I am now no longer obligated to pay the credit card company! Now with the whole credit card reform bill begin passed by the Senate, maybe others will have the feeling of being debt-free. It's just not a good feeling owing the credit card company (or companies), especially with all the craziness that they're doing with the interest rates, etc.

So I'm a walking testimony, it can be done!!

Gleefully happy!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/20/09

Scriptures: John 4:36-38 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! 37 You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. 38 I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.” (NLT)

Nugget: There are so many things that people have done before us where we are now reaping the harvest! They laid the foundation for what we see & have today. Just think of your grandparents & what they instilled in you. Some of our grandparents worked cotton fields, some built up farms, some migrated; the list goes on. But, we are the ones who are seeing the things they didn’t & receiving some of the things they worked so hard for.

Make them proud!!

Let's Talk Travel

Okay all. My friends & I were supposed to go to Cancun for Memorial weekend. Now, we've been planning this trip for months: have airline tickets, resort booked, etc. The resort had no problem refunding our money, but Mexicana Airlines was not giving full credits past May 15th purchase dates. So now, we have to pay a cancellation fee & a rescheduling fee when we decide to book again. Needless to say, after all of this is done, there's barely enough left to travel on.

I have to say, my experience w/ the Mexicana Airlines Customer Service Department has been less than stellar. I asked the guy why in the world are they not giving full credits for the whole month of May; he replied that they are doing full business. Now those who know me well know that I told this "gentleman" that the whole reason they are doing this is to make $ off of the Memorial weekend because the whole swine flu epidemic is stopping cruise ships from going to Cancun. He said that all businesses are operating differently. Again I went on about the swine flu having a high number of cases in Mexico, he informed me that it started in Wisconsin!!!!

I would relay the rest of the conversation, but it's pointless. These people are not about to give any full credits towards future purchases after the 15th, regardless of how you feel about your safety & health.

I will not be using this company ever again after I redeem my "credit".

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/18/09

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10-12 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (NLT)

Nugget: We should be so strong in God’s word that we’re standing firm in Him & His promises. We are in constant battle against the things we see & the things we don’t see. There’s so much going on & so many things coming at us that we have to believe in God & His might!

God’s word is our promises & our shields. Knowing His word is the only way to combat the things we know & the things we don’t know. This is why it’s so important to spend time in His word daily; strengthen your armor!!!

"The Game"

As most of my friends know, I'm a football fanatic. Love the sport. So one of my favorite shows is "The Game", starring Tia Mowry Hardrict and Pooch Hall (Melanie and Derwin). The Season Finale aired yesterday! It was good!!!!

However, word has it that "The Game" is up-in-the-air for renewal & it may get cut from the CW Network for the Fall Lineup. Other word states that it will come back on BET. Why is it that only reality shows made up of pretty much nothing are lasting, but TV Shows are getting the boot?! I really miss the days of "The Cosby Show" and "A Different World" (only to name a few).

I hope that my show comes back; I really want to see what happens next. It was given a Season Finale and not a Series Finale, but we'll have to see. We see how they got rid of "Girlfriends" without an ending, so you never know!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/14/09

Scriptures: Psalm 27:1-2 1The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. (NIV)

Nugget: God has your back! There’s nothing like having God on your side. No matter what comes up against you, God always prevails. That’s why it’s good to leave your battles to Him; He can handle anything & everything better than we can.

Quote: “Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God and he is instantly free. If we understand our first and sole duty to consist of loving God supremely and loving everyone, even our enemies, for God's dear sake, then we can enjoy spiritual tranquility under every circumstance.” A.W. God's Work is Never Done

I'm a firm believer that we all are a work in progress. God continues to work on the things within us that we pray about & the things we don't even know He's fixing! On top of all of this, He is in the blessing business!

I've been thinking on how His work never ends. He's constantly working on us & for us. With this being said, I'm counting my blessings & learning to count the blessings during my trials & tribulations as well. I can't help but think that God is working on the next big thing for me. I don't know what it is, but I know that He's not finished yet!! I can tell this by the things & people that are coming my way; by the trials that I am trying to pass & the trials that are before me.

I am glad that I'm learning not to get so complacent & comfortable within certain situations. I think this is good because it serves as a reminder that God has that something else in store. Just when I think I got things down, He comes with the next thing. LOL, God knows how to get our attention for sure!

I continue to pray through everything & know that God's work is never done! We are, after all, a work in progress!!

Thank God for the next big blessing on it's way: no matter the current situation.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/13/09

Scripture: Revelations 4:11 “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” (New King James Version)

Nugget: I think we sometimes get so caught up in life that we neglect to give God all the glory, honor, & praise He deserves. Everything we have & all that we are is because of Him. He created everything that we see.

So in the midst of the crazy day & all the on-goings, stop & give God a moment of thanks & praise!

Daily Scriptures 5/12/09

Scripture: Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Nugget: This scripture reminds us that the man finds the wife. Not the other way around! I know a few single people who have claimed that “that’s my husband” & it never came to pass. At times, God does reveal things to us women & we have that “feeling”, but if God reveals it to you, He will reveal it to the man as well.

He who finds a wife finds a treasure & has the favor of God; the union of marriage is serious! Let God work on the man, while He works on you. When God brings it, it’s never wrong.

Daily Scriptures 5/11/09

Scripture: Proverbs 21:6 Wealth created by a lying tongue is a vanishing mist and a deadly trap. (NLT)

Nugget: As we’ve seen, many people lie & cheat their way into wealth. The thing is, they think that it will be something that lasts, but it’s only temporary. We later read of jail sentences, etc. for these individuals. Of course God wants us to prosper, but in the right way & at the right time. This way, we know that it comes from Him, not from our own devices.

The best way to prosper is God’s way!

Movie Watching

Most of us have that one movie we can watch over & over again. The one movie that no matter how many times you watch it, you still see something you never saw the million of other times you put in the DVD! That movie for me is Tyler Perry's "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". (The movie & not the play).

The movie is about Helen & Charles McCarter & their marriage. Kimberly Elise plays Helen & Charles is played by Steve Harris. We must not forget the fine Shemar Moore, who's thrown in the mix (he plays Orlando). Then there's the ever-wise Madea, played by Tyler Perry himself.

I think the things I like the most about the movie are: understanding that God's plan is bigger than ours, understanding the concept of forgiveness, learning that people can change, & learning to let go of the things & the people that are hindering growth & peace in your life. Of course, there's the "happily ever after" feeling too, but there's a process to get there.

Here's a clip of the movie. Catch it on DVD if you get the chance:

Until next time.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there. May you enjoy your day, your families, & the blessings God has given.

God has blessed me with many Proverbs 31 mothers in my life. I pray that I can one day be the same mother to my future children that they have been an example of. There's nothing like having Christian women in your life who can guide you & show you the direction you should be going.

For my friends who are first-time mothers, I know you are basking in the glory of your first-born & the title of "mom". I'm so happy for you.

Thank God for Mothers!!

Daily Scriptures 5/8/09

Scriptures: Colossians 4:5-6 “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture makes me think of visitors to my church. We want to make them feel at home, not as if they are really visiting. We must also consider that this could be someone’s first time coming to church, so we want them to understand what’s being said & walk away with knowledge of Jesus!

This scripture doesn’t necessarily have to apply to church only, it applies to life. Allow outsiders (new people on the job, new family members (there’s a lot of weddings going on!), & more to feel like they’re a part of what’s going on without being overwhelmed.

Quote: “Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God and he is instantly free. Life is Busy.....

For the past few months, I have been very busy. Time has definitely gotten away from me! The thing is, we usually let this busyness comsume us & then we look back & wonder where the time went.

I've always said, that we make time for what we feel is important. So no matter how busy I've been, I've made the time to be in touch with friends & family, also to take some time for myself. The thing is, I'm putting aside time for people, but when I look around for the same, the first answer is, "I've been so busy". I'm a firm believer that no matter how busy I get, I'm going to reach out to those who need me. Maybe I've always made myself the person to do that, but that's what a good friend/etc. does, right?

I know that things get busy, but don't get so busy that you overlook yourself, what's going on around you, & those who need you. You never know what someone is going through & when they will need that kind ear. I'm not saying be someone's garbage can by taking in numerous problems, but be the friend to them that they are to you.

Make time for what & who you feel are important.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/7/09

Scripture: Psalm 13:1 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

Nugget: How many times have we asked God if He’s forgotten about us?? I know my count is endless! The thing is, God doesn’t forget; He answers prayers in His time. Sometimes, He doesn’t answer prayers in the way we want, but He makes no mistakes.

Don’t think that God’s forgotten about you. Remember, He knows the number of hairs on your head!! Be steadfast in prayer, knowing that He’s working. Patience is the key.

Daily Scriptures 5/6/09

Scripture: James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: One of the best things in life is to have praying people around you. These people are the ones who you can ask to pray for you & you know they will do it; sometimes they pray for you more than you do for yourself.

You cannot have everyone praying for you because not everyone has your best interest at heart, but those who you know have your back & are righteous are your prayer warriors. What a powerful combination.

Quote: “The real purpose of prayer and meditation is to travel deeply enough within yourself to attract the presence of God.” –The Lady

Happy Spiritual Birthday to Me!

5 years ago today I was Baptized!!!! Time has flown by! One thing's for sure, I wouldn't change a thing about my Christian walk. Everything that has happened, has helped me to become who I am.

The thing is, I think that most of us know that God is calling us & we don't listen. Because once I got Baptized, I remembered signs beforehand showing that it would happen. I believe that I put it off for months, but God doesn't give up on us!!! Thank goodness.

There's still so much to learn, but the growth I've experienced keeps me going. I am glad to have a great group of friends, a loving church, strong Christian people surrounding me, & a wonderful Pastor.

For those contemplating giving their lives to the Lord, pray, seek His wisdom & guidance, & give yourself to Him. Believe me, there's nothing like it. You won't be the same & your life won't be the same. There will be challenges, of course, but the way you handle them & deal with them will be so completely different. People will even tell you that you aren't the same person anymore; you will have a complete change in attitude!!! That's God.

One of my favorite songs is "Jesus, You're the Center of My Joy", by Richard Smallwood. It was sung in church on this past Sunday (by Brother Larry), but here's a video of Richard Smallwood singing it, very touching:

May God bless you!!

Until next time,

Daily Scriptures 5/5/09

Scripture: Proverbs 20:1 Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those led astray by drink cannot be wise. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: Alcohol will make you do things you thought you’d never do. Just think of the situations you or people you know have gotten into because of alcohol. People don’t think clearly, and act out on what drinking is leading them to do. Many people feel that they can “hold their liquor”, but can’t.

This scripture reminds us to think twice about drinking and becoming intoxicated!

Daily Scriptures 5/4/09

Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. (New Living Translation)

Nugget: It’s always good to have a plan, for we know faith without works is dead. However, no matter what plans we have, God determines our steps. We can be way out in left field or on the wrong path for ourselves, but God puts us back on track.

I always say, have a plan, pray, & know that God is always working. I think that we sometimes forget this, especially if we are headstrong! God is our director!

Catching up....

Yesterday, the thought came to me to reach out to the positive people who've made an impact on my life. You know, the people you haven't heard from in a while & you would like to say "HI" to. I sent out a few emails & heard back from a few. So that's good. But, out-of-the blue, someone I hadn't heard from in a while contacted me & said it was on her heart to say "HI". How ironic, huh?

I guess from time-to-time we want to touch base & wish everyone the best. I'm not talking about reaching out to those negative & draining people who meant you no good, but just a hello to those where nothing went wrong, they were positive, & time got away from you.

It's not that this can be done with everyone who's crossed your path, because we know that some people are for a season, reason, or a lifetime, but there are others who stood out in the crowd & impacted you where it made some positive change.

Who do you need to say "HI" to today? An old friend, a family member, an old co-worker??????

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/1/09

Scripture: Hebrews 13:15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. (New International Version)

Nugget: One thing used to confuse me about this scripture. I would ask myself, “Why would someone feel praise is a sacrifice?” Also, “What is the sacrifice of praise?” In Bible Study, my Pastor referenced this scripture.

The reason it’s considered a sacrifice is that no matter what’s going on & how hard things are, we must praise God always. We cannot let situations or circumstances block our desire to praise & to thank God. That’s why this scripture states sacrifice; the sacrifice is us sacrificing how we feel in the bad times, moving past it, & overcoming it with praise.

Quote: “Blessings we enjoy daily, and for the most of them, because they be so common, men forget to pay their praises. But let not us, because it is a sacrifice so pleasing to him who still protects us gives us and content.” –Izaak Walton
