Thoughts on Michael Jackson

Wow, yesterday's news has a lot of us speechless. I cannot believe that Michael Jackson is gone. We are losing so many greats: Luther Vandross, James Brown, Aaliyah, Lefteye, & more. How sad.

For me & my Michael memories, they deal with my family. I remember his "Thriller" album playing in our home. It wasn't a CD, but a tape! I think we played that tape until we wore it out. I was really young at the time, but I do remember watching the entire "Thriller" video thinking it was awesome (although it was a mini movie rather than a video *smile*)

As I got "older" & went to college, I remember Michael's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" playing @ "Grown Folks Friday". What memories!

I know that there's so much more that I can write, but I'll be typing for a while. I pray that he's in a better play & has that happiness that he had been seeking all of his life. I think that he was a very lonely person, although he made such a huge impact on many. Let us pray for the Jackson family; what a tremendous loss.

Live each day as if it's your last; enjoy your blessings. Let your loved ones know what they mean to you. Life is too short.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/26/09

Scriptures: Proverbs 22:25-26: Make no friendship with any angry man; and with a furious man thou shall not go. Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Nugget: In all truth, make no friendship with anyone who consistently exhibits qualities you don't desire to learn - whether it is anger, vulgarity, 419ism (fraudulent behaviour), etc. Because the truth is, you will be impacted - "you will learn his ways and get a snare to thy soul".

Daily Scriptures 6/25/09

Scripture: Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Nugget: If you really want to understand a person, their habits, and likely evolution - then go back to their roots. Go back to their background, how they were raised, the values they were taught, etc. They may not be ascribing to any of those things at the immediate moment......but "when he is old, he will not depart from it".

Daily Scriptures 6/24/09

Scripture: Proverbs 15:2 The tongue of the wise utters knowledge rightly, but the mouth of the [self-confident] fool pours out folly. (Amplified Translation)

Nugget: A wise man knows how to apply knowledge appropriately; while the fool takes the same knowledge, and out of context, just sounds like foolishness.

Daily Scriptures 6/23/09

Scripture: Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger.

Nugget: A soft answer - it is the secret to stopping an argument before it starts. No matter how ticked off the other person is - it is most frustrating to fight on your own. Anger needs stirring; a soft answer is like throwing cold water on fire. You have the ability to determine if an argument will be curbed or if it will become an all out battle - the question is are you willing to give a soft answer?

Daily Scriptures 6/22/09

Scripture: Matthew 1:19 Then Joesph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

Nugget: Joseph was engaged to Mary (the mother of Jesus) only to discover that she was pregnant, and they had never slept together. No one would have judged him if he publicly embarrassed her - I mean, the best excuse she had was the she was pregnant for the Holy Ghost? Yeah right! But Joseph was a just man (thank God for just men) - though he didn't buy her story, he felt the obligation to not make her a public spectacle. He was not going to marry her; but neither was he going to disgrace her. It speaks of the value he placed on Mary; despite the current circumstance. He didn't believe her, because it seemed so out there - but yet he trusted her, and could not reconcile the situation. So he chose to do what he deemed to be right, irrespective of his feelings or other people's opinions. He was more interested in protecting Mary, than protecting his own image.

Good Times!!!!

My friends & I attended an LL Cool J concert last night! What a great time we had. I mainly listened to LL growing up (courtesy of my brothers!), but I've seen a few of his movies too. The concert was good; flashbacks of the songs I heard growing up with a few new ones in there. He performed for about 2 hours, which was no joke considering here it was 90 degrees & felt like 99!!! At one point, he said, "I feel like I'm in a microwave wrapped in aluminum foil & running in biker shorts"!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, but it truly was hot.

LL is definitely someone who has gotten better with age; it's like he hasn't aged! Very attractive, handsome, & fine. LOL :) The pics we've seen on TV & what we've seen in movies don't do him justice. I know his wife has to be a happy woman :)

On another note, it's good to see someone who has been in the industry for over 20 years still doing his thing. I know the industry is a difficult one, so longevity is rare. LL also introduced a new singer, Luther Jackson, who won his singing contest sponsored on Luther did a 2009 version of LL's hit, "I Need Love" & performed his own song, "My Dream". Very talented; he sounded a little like Ne-yo to me. This is what the Metro Times had to say about Jackson, "Jackson won a one-record single deal and the opportunity to perform onstage with LL Cool J. What's especially inspiring is that Jackson was born with only one ear and is partially deaf but he claims he never let his dream of being a musician stop him, even if it meant sacrificing his career in music to stay in Detroit to take care of his ailing grandmother, who recently passed away." I hope that his career continues to grow.
Until next time.

So, I've crossed over into the world of owning an iPhone! What a big change for me. LOL. There's definitely going to take some time for me to get used to it (my friend said I'll be okay after a week!).

I'm getting better about change. It's so easy to get caught up in what we always do, be the way we've always been, & many, staying that way. BUT change is definitely good at times. Without change, there's little or no progress. Where does the growth occur if we always do the same thing year after year? day after day?

This year, I've learned a lot about trying new things & thinking outside of the box. We can make the box so little & confined that we cannot see past the borders we've established. With this said, do something new, try that change for the better! Whether it be something as simple as going a different route to work (I've done this & found a quicker way than I've been going) or going to that restaurant you've always wanted to try! Do something.

Change can be good!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/19/09

Scripture: Proverbs 11 v 27: He who diligently seeks good seeks [God's] favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come upon him. (Amplified Translation)

Nugget: You want favour? Consistently apply yourself to seeking good. Note, it's not about "sucking up" to people; it's about seeking good - period. It's about doing what is right because it's right - irrespective of who it affects or does not affect. It's not about man pleasing. It's not a one time flash, "good deed" for the year or month.

Diligent means being constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent; tireless; done or pursued with persevering attention; painstaking. Nuff said.

Daily Scriptures 6/18/09

Scripture: Proverbs 11 v 2: When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. (NIV Translation)

Nugget: Shame comes to the proud because they are unteachable. Wisdom comes to the "lowly" aka the humble, because they are teachable - they can take correction, take advice. The most dangerous man is the man no one can talk to.

Daily Scriptures 6/17/09

Scripture: Proverbs 11 v 1: A false balance is abomination to the Lord; but a just weight is his delight.

Nugget: Rest assured that if your life is spiraling out of control, despite seeming success in one area, that it concerns God. "A false balance is abomination to the Lord". The Bible says the blessings of God maketh rich and addeth no sorrow. It is not God's will that you are prosperous in your career but yet your family life is a disaster; it is not His will that you be extremely intelligent but yet be totally unable to relate with other human beings; that you are very social but generally deemed to be unserious :-) God help us.

Let's pray for grace to have balance in our lives. In addition, let's have balance/fairness in how we operate in our day to day dealings: "A just weight is his delight".

"The Game" Update!!

Guess we'll see what the outcome will be.

Do you ever get to the point where you feel your next set of battles are here?! You know that place after something good happens & then you look & see the "oh no"!! I think that I'm there now. LOL So many things & people have been coming at me, but I know that it's all a part of God's plan to test my faith & strength.

Because in the midst of these battles, good things continue to happen! Sometimes that's how God works. We must stay faithful & strong, knowing that no matter what things may seem like, God has the victory laid out.

I think that God continues to work on us, even when we feel like we're at a stand-still. It may be little things here & there, but there's continuous progress. As I've always said (& heard), little things do add up (just think about saving a little here & there, later realizing that you have a "savings account"!!). Maybe that's what God's doing too: taking the little battles & things in order to make us stronger one step at a time.

I'm grateful for it (not that the process is always easy), BUT GOD is working things out for my good! Always.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/16/09

Scripture: Proverbs 10 v 17: He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. (NIV Translation)

Nugget: A man who knows how to take and follow instructions is very useful. Even more valuable is the man who does not need instructions, but is able to manage himself without being given all the details. However, most valuable is the man who can take correction....."he that refuseth reproof erreth". We are all "work in progress". - so it's expected that no matter how good we are, that we will make mistakes sometimes (no matter how rare). The issue is not that you made a mistake; but are you humble enough to recognize the mistake and take feedback on how to improve or avoid the mistake the next time. Our greatest challenge, especially for the "valuable" or "accomplished" man, is humility.

Daily Scriptures 6/15/09

Scripture: Proverbs 9 v 7: He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame; and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee; rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

Nugget: Be careful who you rebuke - "he that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame; and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot". Even knowing who to rebuke, how to rebuke, when to rebuke requires discernment. Not everyone is willing to receive; at times it's truly best to just mind your own business.

Praise Song: "Pray"

I absolutely love CeCe Winans' song, "Pray". I listened to it during some difficult times. During the times when things seemed like they were going nowhere & everywhere at the same time. Now, I can listen to it w/ a praise & a smile!!!!

We must remember that nothing is bigger than God--nothing. There's nothing He can't handle for us or on our behalf. We must know that He's in control & He continues to work in spite of us & what we think. Our faith must be strong enough to believe in Him & His might!!!

CeCe Winans' "Pray"

I know that you think you can't pray after that mistake
but I know it's the only way you can make it better
And I know situations get too much for you to take
and you feel like you're gone break and it makes you say

I can't take it
When will things get better?
I'm so frustrated, but it's gonna be okay cause
you’ve got someone in your corner
Who's gonna be there for yaJust fall on your knees, say a prayer and receive

When the world feels like it's on your shoulders (I pray, you pray, we pray)
When your life seems like its upside down (I pray, you pray, we pray)
When your lonely nights are getting colder (I pray, you pray, we pray)
I pray, you pray no matter how dark the day

I know you think you've gone too far and you waited too late
But I know that He loves you and there's no love greater so
And I know that it's hurting and you want your pain to end
And you feel like you can't win and it makes you say

Our Father which art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
All you gotta do is say
[Pray Lyrics on]

Be encouraged!!!

Until next time.

Hey out there!!

Wow, it's Thursday already! The week has flown by. Tonight is Game #4 for the NBA Finals. Go Magic!!!! I'm cheering on the team.

As for my child-cat & the catbed; Cat 1, Woman 0. To no avail, he has yet to sleep in the bed. LOL. Oh well, good thing I kept my receipt. I will see what happens after the month goes by!!! I give you moms much cheer as you guys handle the things us children do to you during our "formative" years which continue on to adulthood!!!

Lastly, I've been seeing a lot on the news! Why is there never "good news"?? We must stay prayed up in all we do & all that's surrounding us. I think that I sometimes go around as if I'm in a bubble or something, but it's time to take heed & look at what God's trying to show us. There's seriously a lot to pray about & a lot that we must let Him handle. AND let's not forget about getting souls saved!

Until next time.

Praise Song: "Back II Eden"

A guest choir visited my church yesterday. They sang the Donald Lawrence song, "Back II Eden". Thought I'd share it with you! The lyrics & video are below:

When God made man,
He made a spirit
It was His plan that we live blessed
The tempter came we were distracted
The tempter came and we fell
We were deemed to live a life that's beautiful;
a life that's full; a life that's rich and plentiful
It is my goal to remind you of this principle
You're redeemed; a newborn soul
Let's get back to Eden; live on top of the world

Well now it's time we change our thinking
Know our design, our Father's plan
Oh yes it's time, we get back to kingdom
Now is the time, we take our stand
We were deemed to live a life that's beautiful;
a life that's full; a life that's rich and plentiful
It is my goal to remind you of this principle
We're redeemed; a newborn soul
Let's get back to Eden; live on top of the world

Our families blessed; finances blessed
Our mind and spirit; our bodies blessed
We were tempted and we fell
Jesus came now all is well
Let's get back to Eden; live on top of the world

Live (repeat)
Live, Live on top of the world (repeat)
Live on top of the world (repeat)

An awesome praise song! Enjoy!!

Until next time.

This week....

Wow, this week has come to an end. It has flown by!! I don't know where the days went, but I'm glad it's Friday.

My mission this week has been to get my child-cat to sleep in the new catbed I bought for him. Needless to say, my mission has not been accomplished as of this date! My latest trick is to put his cat treats in the catbed to make him get into the bed. I guess this will be a continuous work in progress. LOL I know that cats will sleep in the catbeds because my friend's cats do!

So the Magic lost last night. On to Game 2. I hope that they redeem themselves. I would love to see them win, especially since they've eluded a title for so long! But they will have to play a lot better than they did last night!

Again, glad it's Friday & the weekend is upon me!

Until next time.

Mondays are usually difficult due to us trying to get past the weekend being over. However, today flew by!!

On another note, I received a big kudos from my boss today. I am so happy! It definitely feels good, especially since I'm the newest person on the team. I truly needed that though; I am glad that I'm learning & making progress with my new job. I am liking what I do & love the opportunity for growth.

Started back my Taebo regimen over the weekend! Love Taebo & Billy Blanks is motivating. Oooohhh, I just went to and see that a new version of Taebo is out. I'll have to check that out.

Okay, my child-cat just sat on my arm & it's hard for me to type. What a brat!!

Until next time.

Wow, it's June 1st already! Time is flying by. I decided to try to do a mid-year check to see what I've worked on so far this year.
  • God blessed me w/ a better job & a new place.
  • Getting myself in order & continuing to be the best person I can be.
  • Learning more about "letting go & letting God".
  • I've definitely learned more about discernment & when God reveals stuff to me to take heed as to what He's trying to get me to learn & to see.
  • Went on my first cruise!
  • Working on getting tickets to my first NFL game!

So far so good; prayerfully, the rest of the year will go smoothly.

Well, with June 1st being here, we must also remember it's the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. I'm not looking forward to this! With all the rain we've had recently, I think this hurricane season will be a hard one. We must stay prayed up!!!

Until next time.
