Daily Scriptures 6/28/10

Scripture: Psalm 27:10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me that everyone who has children isn’t necessarily meant to be parents. What happens to the children of these people? God steps up in their places. He’s there no matter what; He’s a constant presence. God already knows their stories from beginning to end!!

For those without parents or parents who aren’t really taking on the role of parenting, know that God’s there for you, regardless of the situation! He’s the father to the fatherless & the mother to the motherless!!

Quote: “Father! - to God himself we cannot give a holier name.” -William Wordsworth

Praise Song: "No Weapon"

This week's Praise Song is Fred Hammond's "No Weapon".  We must remember that all of God's promises will come though: in His time.  Don't lose faith!!  Stay strong & know that God's always working & has your back.  Nothing that comes against you has power over God.

Can't Believe...

I can't believe that it's been one year since Micheal Jackson passed.  It doesn't seem as if a year has gone by.  Just changing the channels on TV and/or reading anything online, we're reminded of Michael, his life, & the impact he had (& continues to have).  May his memory live on.

One of my favorite Michael Jackson songs, "Smooth Criminal".  Love the dancing :)

May we not take life & all that it has to offer for granted.

Until next time.

Calm Down/Shut Up/Quit Trippin'

I received this via email & thought I would post it.  An encouraging word for us all :)

Calm Down/Shut Up/Quit Trippin' -Author Unknown

Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God."

So many times we make situations more than they are due to our anxiety,

God has your life under control; He knows how to handle even the seemingly complex situations with ease.

Stop having pity parties and talking about your business all the time;don't you know that the power of death and life is in the tongue? Stop speaking negative things into existence in yours life and in others.

When you look at your situations through your eyes, you often read more into the situation than what is there.  It's not as bad as you think particularly if God is in your life; Stop over analyzing your life.

Be courageous
2 Timothy 1:7 - "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of Love, and of a sound mind.

Fear is not of God. Have the courage to step out on faith and do the seemingly impossible. Start your own business; go into the ministry; apply for that promotion; anything that you've been afraid to do and you know that God has called you to do - JUST DO IT!

Have confidence
Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

Remember, greater is He that's within you than he that's in the world. You have the power of the most High God working in you, and you have His Son steadily making intercession for you. You have nothing to worry about! Walk with your head up! You say you have low self-esteem; somebody told you that you'd never amount to anything; the devil is a liar! Know that you are somebody not because Jesus said it, but because you are a child of The King!

Walk in the VICTORY!
Romans 8:28 - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."

Does anything else need to be said?

God has already worked it out for you. It may not come the way you think it should come (or when you think it should), but remember - CALM DOWN, SHUT UP, AND QUIT TRIPPIN'! He's working it out for "YOUR" good (in His time).

Do not ask the Lord to guide your footsteps, if you are not willing to move your feet.

Be Blessed!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/24/10

Scripture: Psalm 48:14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. (NIV)

Nugget: God is our God forever & always! He’s consistent & loves us unconditionally. Thank God for being our guide continuously; there’s nothing & no one like Him! Don’t take Him or His love for granted.

Quote: “Somebody loves us, too - God Himself. We have been created to love and to be loved.” –Mother Teresa

Daily Scriptures 6/22/10

Scripture: Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Nugget: Not only should we seek nourishment for our bodies, but nourishment for our souls! This comes by reading God’s word daily. His Word gives us the strength to renew our minds & thought processes. God’s word is what gets us through the tough times & allows us to have “back-up” for the things that come our way.

If you’re not feeding your mind & soul with God’s word, how are you backing up what comes your way?? We cannot live by bread alone!

Quote: “The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.” –A.W. Tozer

Random Stuff

Wow, time is going by so quickly!!!  I can't believe we're already in the Summer season (although it feels as if we've been there for the past month!!).

I got the chance to see "The Karate Kid" (I remember watching the original movies with my brothers & sister).  I have to say, Jaden Smith, did a great job. I love Jackie Chan & Taraji P. Henson too!!  Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith's son definitely has a great career ahead of him!!  You'll have to see the movie if you get a chance :)

Also, one of my favorite shows, "HawthoRNe", returns tomorrow night; Go, Jada Pinkett Smith!!! I really liked the 1st season, so am looking forward to the new one.

My friends & I decided on a vacation spot for later this year; cannot wait to get to the islands :)  A much needed vacation is on it's way!!!!  I'm counting down for sure.

The current term has come to an end, so Professor P. is on a hiatus for a few weeks until the next term begins :)  Yay!!!  My regular job is going good as well; to God be the glory for all that He's done & all that He continues to do.

Enjoy life everyone; it's way too short.  Do not take anything for granted because our days are truly numbered!!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/21/10

Scripture: Psalm 5:12 For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. (NIV)

Nugget: I think that we sometimes take God’s favor for granted. We spend time complaining about different things, that we lose sight of the favor God has given us.

Having a job to go to in this economy: that’s God’s favor. Having a place to live: that’s God’s favor. Getting something that you never thought you’d qualify for: that’s God’s favor. The list can go on & on!!

God’s favor surrounds us daily; it’s the armor that shields us, even when we lose sight of it.

Quote: “Our ‘works’…can never bring us into God’s favor. Only faith, the humble acceptance of God’s offer of salvation, can do so.” –Douglas Moo

Praise Song: "Meditate"

This week's Praise Song is Out of Eden's "Meditate".  This song reminds me to slow down & take time to find that quiet place to meditate on Jesus.  We tend to let the on-goings of everyday life get us so busy that we forget the importantance of quiet time with the Lord.

Happy Father's Day!

Daily Scriptures 6/16/10

Scripture: Psalm 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

Nugget: I wonder how things would be if we aim to be more like the Lord: merciful, compassionate, slow to anger, & filled with unfailing love! Wow, that’s a lot to do, huh? However, we can try daily to be better than we were the day before.

The Lord’s characteristics are good ones to have for sure! Imagine how much easier things would be if we adopt a Christ-like attitude. Where can you adjust your attitude & thought process today?

Quote: “The rule for us all is perfectly simple. Do not waste time bothering whether you "love" your neighbor; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.” -C. S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 6/15/10

Scripture: Proverbs 23:24 The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise. (NLT)

Nugget: Parents who raise their children in the Godly way definitely have to be proud parents! They see the product of what they’ve instilled in their children as the children grow up. I’m sure for these parents, it wasn’t always easy, but the end product is a great gift.

That’s why it’s so important for parents to teach & to impart the right things in their children; many parents don’t know the impact they’ve made on their children until later years. Parents, we’re listening even when you think we’re not :)

Quote: “It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.” -Joyce Maynard

The Law of the Garbage Truck

A friend sent me this a while back; I've shared it with others via email, but thought it would be a good idea to post it here :)

These are very true words!!  It's amazing how some people will call you only with drama (& this will be the only time you hear from them).  No "hey, how are you doing?"; just straight to the drama & the conversation is over.  What's even worse is if they are bringing you someone else's drama as part of this "conversation"!  As this post is saying, don't be anyone's garbage truck!!

The Law of the Garbage Truck -Author Unknown

How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an instant you're probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly they can get back their focus on what's important.

Years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened. I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did.

So this was it: The "Law of the Garbage Truck."

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it anymore."

I began to see garbage trucks. Like in the movie "The Sixth Sense," the little boy said, "I see Dead People." Well, now "I see Garbage Trucks." I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best. Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses.

Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day.

What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?

Here's my bet. You'll be happier. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/14/10

Scripture: Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (NIV)

Nugget: I’m thankful for my true friends. God has definitely given me a good set! True friends are there for you no matter what; they lift you up when you’re down, they tell it like it is, they are the ones who want to see you do better & become a better person. These are the people you need to keep around!!

As time goes on, I value these friendships more & more; because as time goes on, the “friends” list gets shorter & shorter. That’s why it’s so important for us to value the true people God has placed in our lives. “Iron sharpens iron”; that’s what true friendships are all about.

Quote: “Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.” -Unknown

Praise Song: "Who is Like the Lord?"

This week's Praise Song is Israel and New Breed's, "Who is Like the Lord?".  I love it when the Praise Team sings this song in church!  What a great reminder that no one in our life is like the Lord!!!  He's got it all under control!!!

Daily Scriptures 6/10/10

Scripture: Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Nugget: At this point in the scriptures, Joseph had been through a lot: his brothers sold him into slavery, he had been in jail, & more. However, in spite of what his brothers intended for him, God turned it all around for Joseph’s good.

This is how it is with us sometimes, people will do things to us & intend it for evil, but God always has the upper hand. He has the bigger plan! We go through things to come out on the other side; because of God, we will (and should) see the good in every situation.

Daily Scriptures 6/7/10

Scripture: Jeremiah 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Nugget: Our lives aren’t our own; we may make plans, but God is the one who directs our steps into the directions & lives that He’s planned for us. Too many times, we believe that we’re in control, but in reality, He is.

Of course, faith without works is dead, we should always be moving & pursuing our dreams & goals; this prepares us for all that God has in store. God is continually in the process of it all!

Praise Song: "Rough Side of the Mountain"

I'm going back with this week's Praise Song!  This week's song is "Rough Side of the Mountain" by Rev F.C. Barnes and Rev. Janice Brown.  This song reminds me of my Granddaddy (may he RIP)!  He used to listen to this song on Sundays.  At the time, I didn't understand what the song was talking about; I knew it was a "church song".  LOL!  Now I can look back & know what this song meant to him.

We all go through things in life; this song is a reminder to hang in there & know that God's in control!!  He's in the battle with you.

Verse 1:
Oh Lord, I'm strivin',
tryin' to make it through this barren land,
but as I go from day to day,
I can hear my Savior say,
"trust me child, come on and hold my hand."

I'm comin' up on the rough side of the mountain,
I must hold to God, His powerful hand.
I'm comin' up on the rough side of the mountain,
I'm doin' my best to make it in.

Verse 2:
I'm comin' up Lord, although my burdens
sometime they press me down,
but if I can only keep this faith
I'll have strength just to run this race;
I'm lookin' for my starry crown.

Verse 3:
This old race will be soon be over,
there'll be no more race for me to run.
And I will stand before God's throne,
all my heartaches will be gone,
I'll hear my Savior say, "welcome home".

Until next time.

Wise Advice

Have you ever had someone give you an encouraging word or advice that you immediately had to use? This happened to me the other day. A friend reminded me that some things in life require us to remain “mature in Christ”. To me, this includes the various challenges we face in dealing with people, especially those who have “done us wrong”.

Amazingly, the advice my friend gave me had to be used later that day! A situation arose where I reflected on where God has brought me from & not wanting to go back into the craziness of friendships gone wrong. God will truly remind us that we’ve “been there and done that.” I’m a firm believer that if God shows you how certain people are, believe Him.

God will bring you full circle to face things in your life; this will show you if you’re truly over a situation, especially if it’s a situation where someone hurt you. I have been faced with this in the past few months. I do see the growth in myself with this; because the situation doesn’t affect me like it used to. I see it as a lessoned learned & to keep moving forward. Yep, that’s the maturity of Christ in me. Thank goodness! :)

The Bible states in Matthew 18:21-22 about forgiveness: 21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" 22Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. (NIV)

We all have to keep working on being mature in Christ, because the advice given above definitely takes maturity to accomplish! Forgiveness remains a tough thing to do, but it’s a part of life.

Lastly, some of the best advice I’ve heard is in Tyler Perry’s play, “Madea Goes to Jail”. Madea is giving relationship advice, but also touches upon friendship. Tyler Perry has his own way of putting a twist on advice giving! Enjoy :) View the clip HERE

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/4/10

Scriptures: I Chronicles 29:11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. (NLT)

Nugget: God is definitely the only One who can be great, powerful, victorious, glorious, and majestic all at the same time! What a great God we have!!!

May we thank God for being the One who oversees everything, in the heavens and on the earth. Part of this is allowing us to see another day. To see another day is truly a gift; I’m reminded of this daily! As we live to see another day, don’t lose sight of God & His power.

Quote: “Exercise daily. Walk with the Lord!” -Author Unknown

Daily Scriptures 6/3/10

Scripture: II Peter 1:3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. (NLT)

Nugget: We should always be growing in God; it’s a continuous process. We have everything we need to continue this journey in Him. As we grow, we learn more & more about God’s glory & what He’s equipped us with.

With God, life’s journey makes sense; keep Him first in all things.

Daily Scriptures 6/2/10

Scriptures: II Samuel 5:9-10 9David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the supporting terraces inward. 10And he became more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him. (NIV)

Nugget: Prior to these scriptures, David had experienced a lot. We can all relate to him for sure. The thing is, in spite of David’s battles and struggles, he became powerful because God was with him.

We must also remember that no matter what’s going on, God is with us as well! We can become stronger in the midst of our storms, battles, and struggles too! Stay focused on God and know that He’s with you. The end product of struggles can be a powerful outcome.

Quote: “There is a place in you where the strength of God abides.” –From “A Course in Miracles”

Daily Scriptures 6/1/10

Scripture: Matthew 14:13 As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. (NLT)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me of the importance of silence. Jesus went away from multitude to be alone & to find silence. Also, notice in this scripture that the crowds went looking for Him in the midst of His desire to seek solitude. That’s how it can be with us; just when you find the silence, someone calls you (& this could include the drama-filled calls that you don’t need!) or someone is looking for you as well.

If Jesus needed solitude, so do we. Silence is something we shouldn’t take for granted. Don’t forget the importance of silence in your life & all that it brings!

Quote: “Silence is a source of great strength.” –Lao Tzu
