Daily Scriptures 8/31/10

Scripture: I Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. (NIV)

Nugget: We must thank God for all things; the things we consider big & small. Each & every day is an opportunity to thank God for all that He’s done & all that He continues to do.

It’s so easy to take things for granted; but in looking at our pasts & what’s to come, we know that we’re truly blessed---no matter the situation!! God is truly good; that’s enough to send up a shout of thanksgiving!

Quote: “I prayed, thanking God, for making it all possible for me, because I knew where I came from.” -Thomas Hearns

Daily Scriptures 8/30/10

Scripture: Leviticus 19:12 Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. (NIV)

Nugget: Many people use the Lord’s name in vain, with no regard to how disrespectful & damaging this action can be. His name is definitely not one that should be taken out-of-context or disrespected. His name is above all names & should be treated as such. There’s no one & nothing like the Lord; His name alone is powerful!

How do you use the Lord’s name? Do you hold it in high reverence or use it in some other manner?

Quote: “People do not know what the Name of God can do. Those who repeat it constantly alone know its power. It can purify our mind completely...The Name can take us to the summit of spiritual experience.” –Swami Ramdas

Daily Scriptures 8/27/10

Scripture: Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. (NIV)

Nugget: “Perfect peace”, this comes from trusting in God. Our part is to stay focused on God & know that He is in control. For us to release control & wanting to be in control is a difficult thing; however, God can do anything better than we can!

Who else can promise us this perfect peace? No one. Trust God & that He’s got it. Seek the peace that only He can provide.

Quote: “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” –C.S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 8/25/10

Scriptures: Colossians 3:23-24 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)

Nugget: For most of us, work has been busy, & can be overwhelming, at times. We have to take each task one task at a time & do what we can. It’s easy to get caught up in the hectic on-goings at work & forget whom we’re working for—the Lord. We must work each day as if we’re working for the Lord, & not men. Our reward comes from Him! Just think about it, the jobs we have are because of His blessings & favor! So why not work as if we’re working onto the Lord?

Don’t forget whom you’re serving daily---God.

Quote: “It is impossible to get exhausted in work for God. We get exhausted because we try to do God’s work in our own way.” –Oswald Chambers

Daily Scriptures 8/24/10

Scripture: Psalm 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works. (NKJV)

Nugget: The best place to be is near God, especially with the things we face on a daily basis! (Not the mention the things we battle on an ongoing basis!). Seeking God’s guidance & continual presence is faith in action.

Having faith in God reminds us & shows us that His works are so amazing; who are you putting your trust in?

Quote: “God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.” –Elisabeth Elliot

Praise Song: "Believer"

This week's Praise Song is Mary, Mary's "Believer".  This song mentions certain situations in life that can happen & in spite of these situations, God brings us through!  We must believe.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/23/10

Scripture: Psalm 94:18 When I said, "My foot is slipping," your love, O LORD, supported me. (NIV)

Nugget: Whenever we’re lost, looking for direction, or losing ground, God is there. His love carries us through it all, both good & bad. In the midst of us slipping, God is the steady rock that holds us together.

Quote: “Many Christians estimate difficulty in the light of their own resources, and thus they attempt very little and they always fail. All giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His power and presence to be with them.” -James Hudson Taylor

Daily Scriptures 8/20/10

Scripture: II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)

Nugget: Knowing Christ for yourself & accepting Him as your Lord & Savior makes you a new person/creation! Having Christ in your heart & doing your best to live according to His will & His ways changes you. This transformation makes the old “you” go away to the point you don’t even recognize who you used to be!!

I thank God daily for changing me & continuing to change me. I thank God when people say “I remember when you used to…” “Used to” are the opportune words here!! “Used to” but not anymore!

Thanking God for changing the old into the new!!

Quote: "All that you touch You Change. All that you Change, Changes you. The only lasting truth is Change. God is Change.” –Octavia Butler

Daily Scriptures 8/19/10

Scripture: Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. (NIV)

Nugget: The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines peace as: “a state of tranquility or quiet” and “freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions.” These definitions remind me of the things that we allow to take peace from our lives: stress, work, people, etc. Imagine the true peace that comes from trusting in God & what His word says.

The scripture notes, “nothing can make them stumble.” NOTHING, not some things, but nothing can make them stumble whose love is in God’s law. What are you allowing to make you stumble? What’s taking your focus? Your peace?

Don’t give away the peace that comes with God!! Take it back & stand firm!!

Quote: “Peace is the deliberate adjustment of my life to the will of God.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 8/18/10

Scripture: Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD. (NIV)

Nugget: There is nothing that can succeed against the Lord!! No matter what may come against you or what people may plan against you, God’s in control. What power & strength we have when we realize this.

This is why it’s so important for us not to lose sight of God when we’re going through the trials & tribulations of everyday life; especially the battles we have with people!

Quote: "A man with God is always in the majority." –John Knox

Daily Scriptures 8/17/10

Scriptures: II Corinthians 10:17-18 17As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” 18When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. (NLT)

Nugget: Nothing we have or do is by our own might, but by God’s! We should not boast about what “we” have, do, or accomplish; it’s all because of God. He gives us the knowledge to achieve the goals & dreams He’s instilled in us; He gives us the jobs to live according to our needs (& sometimes wants!), & so much more.

If you boast, boast about what the Lord has done for you; His role in your life! Acknowledge His presence & power. Thank you, God! Where would we be without You?!

Quote: “You are not mature if you have a high esteem of yourself. He who boasts in himself is but a babe in Christ, if indeed he be in Christ at all. Young Christians may think much of themselves. Growing Christians think themselves nothing. Mature Christians know that they are less than nothing. The more holy we are, the more we mourn our infirmities, and the humbler is our estimate of ourselves.” –Charles Spurgeon

For My Singletons, Pt. 14

Hey Singletons! Long time no “talk” to. Not too much new on the horizon; however, more & more people are becoming “experts” on why there are so many single women out here. My friends & I’ve come across various articles stating why the single numbers are going up: women don’t go where the men are, women are too picky, the church is keeping women single (what!), & so on & so on. There are also movies out there saying why women are single!

To me, it’s sad, because many of these people don’t address that fact that some of us Singletons have standards; both single women & men have standards. I’ve come across the single males out there who say that there aren’t any “good women” out there & the single women who say that there aren’t any “good men” out there. I really believe that we somehow met the wrong people first in this dating process!! LOL. But it’s all a part of the process leading up to what God has planned, not what society has planned for us.

In her article, ”Still Single? What’s the Matter with You?”, Karin Anderson answers the question simply: “It just hasn’t happened yet”. Ms. Anderson couldn’t have put it more plainly! In her article, she does note some of the same things I’ve mentioned above as to why people state that she’s single. However, why do they have a problem with her being single, if she doesn’t?! I know I don’t have a problem in my singlehood & neither do my friends. AND a few of my married friends will continue to say, “Wait, don’t rush into anything.”

Life doesn’t stand still while Singletons are in the single part of our lives: we’re living, learning, & enjoying life. Don’t put yourself in “wait” mode!! Live. Also, don’t listen to those who aren’t in your shoes and who don’t know what God has revealed to you about your life & path.

I think God continually prepares all of us for what He has next in our lives; we just have to pay attention! If we go out of His sequence, we can truly learn a few things the hard way. As God works on you, He’s working on “the one”.

So, if someone approaches you with the question as to “why are you single?”, simply answer, “It just hasn’t happened yet.” –Karin Anderson

Until next time.

Praise Song: "God is Good"

This week's Praise Song is Deitrick Haddon's "God is Good".  It's an upbeat song that makes you want to thank God for everything :)  Thank God for being so good to me; especially when I don't even deserve it!!

Put your hands together
Well I said put your hands together now

Listen Y'all
Let me take a minute and testify
Tell the word what God has done in my life
Let me tell you that he took away the hurt and the pain
And now I gotta give him praise
I'm sayin'

(Ohhh) God is good [God is good all the time yeah]
All the time [And I wonder can I get a witness I'm sayin']
All the time
God is good
[He's a good God]
He's a good God [good God]

Now if the Lord ever came through for you
Let me see you lift your hands and praise him too (Yeah)
And when I was weak You made me strong
Gave me strength to carry on

God is good [You better act like you know God is good yeah]
All the time[Yeah]
I'm sayin ohh All the time [Ain't no doubt in my mind he's Good yeah]
God is good
He's a good God, good God
God is good [I wonder can I get a witness God is Good. Early in the Morning God is yeah]
All the time
I'm sayin ohh All the time [And late in the midnight hour God is]
God is good
He's a good God, good God

Can I say it like this y'all
He's a doctor [Yeah]
In the sickroom [Yeah]
He's a lawyer [Yeah]
In the courtroom [Yeah]
He's a friend [Yeah]
When you're friendless [Vocalizing]
Oh yes He's so Good yeah

God is good
All the time, God is Good
All the time
(repeat until end)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/16/10

Scripture: I Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Nugget: This scripture is a reminder to avoid evil. This includes everything from evil thoughts to evil actions to evil people. It’s definitely not easy to do some of these things; for instance, if someone treats you badly, the first reaction may be to lash out in return. The thing is, we must learn to control our reactions to people & things that affect us in a negative way. One way to do this is to change our surroundings & those who surround us.

Check your heart & the things that affect it in a negative way; it may be time for change!

Quote: “All concerns of men go wrong when they wish to cure evil with evil.” -Sophocles

Daily Scriptures 8/13/10

Scripture: Proverbs 18:1 An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment. (NIV)

Nugget: We must be careful of those we surround ourselves with & those who we allow into our lives. Selfish people can drain you & definitely get you off track. They are the ones who focus on the “me” & not the genuine friendship/relationship you have; in turn, rarely listening or seeking sound judgment.

Examine the people around you; see who’s truly for you or for themselves. Check your surroundings & those who surround you!

Quote: "The selfish man suffers more from his selfishness than he from whom that selfishness withholds some important benefit." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Daily Scriptures 8/12/10

Scriptures: Hebrews 4:9-11 9There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. (NIV)

Nugget: With crazy schedules and hectic lives, many of us need to learn the importance of rest (myself included)! Rest is just as important as anything else. Our bodies are our temples & if we don’t take care of them, what does show God about how we treat our temples?

Take time to rest; our bodies & mind need rejuvenating. Rest, in turn, feeds your spirit—it all goes hand-and-hand.

Quote: "The time to relax is....when you don't think you have time for it." -Sydney J. Harris

Daily Scriptures 8/11/10

Scripture: Psalm 119:14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. (NIV)

Nugget: We should rejoice in following God and His word. Just as if we won any prizes or riches, we should shout more unto the Lord for His word, mercy, & grace. Many of us do the opposite, shout for material things & then think about God.

Rejoice in the Lord always! He & His word never fail.

Quote: “To be rich in admiration and free from envy, to rejoice greatly in the good of others, to love with such generosity of heart that your love is still a dear possession in absence or unkindness - these are the gifts which money cannot buy.” –Robert Louis Stevenson

Daily Scriptures 8/10/10

Scripture: Proverbs 21:20 In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me to “prepare for later”. We’ve all heard advice from the wise about “preparing for a rainy day”, but we probably didn’t take heed to it.

This scripture states that in the house of the wise, there are stores of food & oil, but a foolish man basically spends all he has. The wise person was in preparation, while the opposite was occurring elsewhere.

Think about & put into action ways you can be prepared; have your mind, home, spirit, etc. in order. This doesn’t necessarily mean monetary preparation only, but overall personal preparation. If self is right, everything else tends to fall into place.

Quote: “To be prepared is half the victory.” –Miguel De Cervantes

Daily Scriptures 8/9/10

Scripture: I Corinthians 10:26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

Nugget: The earth is the Lord’s & everything in it! Nothing we own or have is truly ours. It all belongs to God. We tend to get this backwards; we think that it’s ours & we’ve done everything to get it. We must remember who’s in control of everything & who the true owner is: God.

Don’t take anything God has blessed you with for granted: job, family, health, home, & more. He’s made you a steward over these things; He trusts you to do well with all He has given you.

Quote: “In the total expanse of human life there is not a single square inch of which Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare, “That is mine!”” –Abraham Kuyper

Praise Song: "You Never Left Me"

This week's Praise Song is Ramiyah's "You Never Left Me".  A beautiful song with a lot of meaning!  This song reminds me that no matter what I've been through, God is always there.  No matter the path it took me to find God, He was always there from the beginning.  He was never lost, but I was.  Thank God for His mercy & grace; for saving me.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/6/10

Scripture: Psalm 33:11 But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. (NLT)

Nugget: God’s plans for us are concrete; forever. What and whose other plans meet this criteria?! Nothing & no one! This is why we must stand firm in knowing that God will always come through; if He’s given you a vision, He’ll give you what it takes to make this vision come through. If He’s given you a plan, He’ll show you how to execute the plan. The list continues on! The main ingredient: God. We cannot do anything without Him in it & expect it to prosper.

Stand on God’s intentions & not your own. A foundation in God cannot be shaken.

Be encouraged, my friends!

Quote: “Faith isn't the ability to believe long and far into the misty future. It's simply taking God at His Word and taking the next step.” -Joni Erickson Tada

Sunday, August 1, 2010

For the past few years, I’ve reminded myself to complete a self-evaluation. This self-evaluation could include everything from friendships, to work, to dreams, and more. Where am I now and where am I trying to go? Who’s in my life? Who am I surrounding myself with? Who’s no longer to be a part of my life? And the list goes on.

I think that if we do this, we tend not to lose sight of the things we need to work on; the things that need improvement. This allows us to constantly work on changing the things within us & those around us (if need be). With so much going on in our everyday lives, it easy to get caught up & lose focus of the things & people that truly matter.

We put so much off for “later”. Dreams that do not get started or completed, the vacations that we “need to take”, that class we’ve been waiting to take, & so much more. What is it that you haven’t started, but wish that you had? What have you been trying to change, but haven’t taken the steps to do so? Who are the people & things you need to let go of in order to move to the next level God has for you? What is the one dream that if today was your last day that you wish you would’ve set out to do?

This current posting is filled with a lot of thought-provoking questions driven to push you (& me) into the things God has in store. We truly can’t get there sitting still or “waiting for later”. These questions are intended to start something; to ignite a fire that hasn’t been started :)

We must get to work, for sure!! No point in putting things off any longer.

Until next time.

Praise Song: "Never Would Have Made It"

This week's Praise Song is Marvin Sapp's "Never Would Have Made It".  Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of God's constant presence in my life & all that He's done!!  I thank God for always being there (even when I lost sight of Him, He never lost sight of me)!  Stay encouraged everyone.  God's in control.
