Daily Scriptures 5/31/11

Scripture: Proverbs 14:3 A fool’s mouth lashes out with pride, but the lips of the wise protect them. (NIV)

Nugget: Pride can definitely be the downfall of a person. Just think on the times that you let pride get in your way---saying things you didn’t mean to say, putting your foot in your mouth, regretting what you said later on, etc.

We definitely must be wise in the words we share & even the thoughts we speak out loud. Wisdom goes further than pride on any day! Think before speaking; this can truly help in eliminating many prideful moments & situations.

Quote: “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.” –Joseph Addison

Daily Scriptures 5/27/11

Scriptures: Psalm 3:1-3 1LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” 3But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. (NIV)

Nugget: It’s amazing to look back over our lives & the things that “people said” about us. We all have had the naysayers cross our paths; bringing both discouragement & negativity. BUT GOD has the final say-so. What God says about us is most important!

People may say you’ll never change, but God has changing power. People may say you’ll never be anything, but God says that we are wonderfully made! I thank God for seeing beyond me & seeing what He intends for me to be & continuing to guide me to be that person!

When you find yourself in the midst of “what people say”, think of “BUT GOD”. Because what He sees is beyond compare.

Daily Scriptures 5/26/11

Scripture: Proverbs 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. (NIV)

Nugget: All of the money in the world cannot get you into heaven; and once you pass on, you cannot take the money or other possessions with you. The most important part of living a righteous life is to accept Jesus as your personal Savior.

Jesus died for our sins; no one else could’ve done what He did for us. In focusing on wealth & possessions, we lose focus on Jesus. It’s okay to have nice things & wealth, as God wants us to live according to His plan; but what is it to have these things without the Lord as part of your life?

Quote: “Jesus Christ is to me the outstanding personality of all time, all history, both as Son of God and as Son of Man. Everything he ever said or did has value for us today and that is something you can say of no other man, dead or alive. There is no easy middle ground to stroll upon. You either accept Jesus or reject him.” -Sholem Asch

Daily Scriptures 5/25/11

Scriptures: James 5:17-18 17Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (NIV)

Nugget: We’ve all heard the saying, “You have not because you ask not.” This is so true in many areas of life, including our prayer lives. Elijah prayed & sought God for what he was seeking; in the process, Elijah received what he requested, according to God’s will.

How many things are we expecting & seeking from God, but it has not been given because of an unrequested prayer? It’s not that your prayer has gone unanswered, but have you even requested these things? I say, try God & see what happens. All things happen according to His will, it all begins by seeking Him, believing, & asking.

Quote: "The main lesson about prayer is just this: Do it! Do it! Do it! You want to be taught to pray. My answer is pray and never faint, and then you shall never fail…" -John Laidlaw

Daily Scriptures 5/24/11

Scripture: Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. (NIV)

Nugget: In today’s times, we’re blessed to have jobs; many times, we find people complaining about work & the jobs they do have. These same people can talk themselves right out of a job.

We must remember that we’re not “lucky” to be working, but BLESSED to have employment & to be able to pay the bills, etc. We must keep those who aren’t employed uplifted in prayer & encourage them.

Don’t complain about what you do have, especially when the alternative could be worse. Thank God for blessing you in today’s times; He thought enough of you (& I) to do this. What a wonderful God we serve!!

Quote: “Let us realize that the privilege to work is a gift, that power to work is a blessing, that love of work is success.” -David O. McKay

Daily Scriptures 5/23/11

Scripture: II Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (NKJV)

Nugget: We’re triumphant through Jesus; no matter what we’re going through & the challenges we face, God always leads us to victory through Jesus. In the victory we receive, our testimonies occur to spread the news to others! This news is the knowledge of God’s mercy & grace that we can share with others.

Don’t let any situation, circumstance, or person get you down; God has prepared us to be the victors & not the victims!

Quote: “Of all the things Christ wants for us, loving Him and focusing our attention on Him are the most important.” –Charles Stanley

With everything that’s going on today, one thing I’ve noticed that changes for some people is focus. Staying focused drives us towards the goals & dreams that God is guiding us into. The challenges with staying focused comes in the form of TV, people, time, the desire to continue on when difficulty arises, & more. How do we stay on track in the midst of it all?

I’m reminded to not lose sight of God & what I see that He has in store. If God has put something in my heart to do (& yours as well), the desire to accomplish it will stay there; it’s up to us to follow His will & His way. I believe that if these dreams are not accomplished, or at least the attempt to work towards them, that the feeling of “what if” remains in the back of our minds.

Think of the people you have around you; are they for you or against you? It’s sad to say, but the ones who you’d think would understand your drive & focus would be the most supportive; however, this is not always the case. Allow yourself to check your surroundings & those who surround you & determine if they need to be there.

Re-focus: get back on track when you feel that you’ve gone astray; don’t ever feel that you’ve gotten to the point where there’s “no hope”, because as stated earlier, if God put something in you to accomplish, don’t lose sight of the dream & what it takes to get there. Sometimes, re-focusing may include reevaluating your game plan to get to your dream; the route to the dream may be one you didn’t expect. The people God will strategically place in your life to get to the dream may still be on their way into your life!

Focus, pray, dream big, re-focus, seek God!! These definitely are a good game plan to stay focused on what God has in store. Don’t let anyone or anything tell you or indicate otherwise!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/20/11

Scripture: Job 13:5 If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom. (NIV)

Nugget: Job had the right idea--he was surrounded by those constantly offering “advice” & doubting God—and instead of listening, he requested silence. Sometimes, we have to seek this same silence! A lot of talking, gossip, etc. can block what God is trying to tell us & the true advice we seek from Him.

Silence can definitely be a virtue. Although we may feel like there’s “nothing happening”, a lot can be “heard” in silence; most importantly God’s voice. We can also hear ourselves think!!

I’m definitely learning more & more about appreciating the importance of silence.

Quote: “We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...We need silence to be able to touch souls.” –Mother Teresa

Daily Scriptures 5/19/11

Scripture: James 4:3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (NLT)

Nugget: There are things that we pray for & want that God will not give us. These things are usually asked for with the wrong motives & with the wrong intentions (pleasure, envy, jealousy, not in God’s will, etc).

We must seek discernment in the things we’re asking for & check our hearts, as well as motives, in the process. Too many times the things we want aren’t necessarily for us, & if given to us, there are consequences to face.

What we want & what we need are two different things; take time to do a self-evaluation & allow God to lead.

Quote: “Desire only God and your heart will be satisfied.” –Augustine of Hippo

Daily Scriptures 5/18/11

Scripture: II Chronicles 15:7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” (NIV)

Nugget: There are just some things in life that we’re going to have to go through; the things we go through are to get us to where God wants us to be. This is why it’s so imperative not to give up & to keep doing our best, working towards goals, working in our jobs, & aiming to be better in life.

I’ve heard people say, “This is why you say that you’re going ‘through’ something, because God will give you the strength to make it through anything.” What a true statement; with God, comes the strength & determination to make it. We must continue to make it “through” because our rewards are on the way—all in His time & in His way.

Daily Scriptures 5/17/11

Scripture: Romans 4:18, 20-21 18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Nugget: We all face challenges that test our faith; at times, our faith wavers. I began to see the challenges as tests to increase my faith, rather than challenges to allow my faith to waver.

In reading the Bible, we can see many before us who faced similar challenges—Abraham being one of them. But “against all hope” he believed & received what God had in store for him. He allowed his challenges to increase his faith, knowing that through God’s promises & power, he would receive all that God promised.

There are so many people in the Bible who are great examples of faith being tested; we must adopt their attitudes & outcome of these challenges—growth in faith beyond our imaginations.

Daily Scriptures 5/16/11

Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:10 When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, Moses was giving his people reminders on God’s commandments & the things that God had done for them & their ancestors. He reminded them of God’s blessings as well.

One of the important things to remember is that in the midst of God blessing us, we cannot forget Him in the process. We must remember to give thanks & praise for all that God has done. This scripture states “when you have eaten & are full”, thanks should be given. It’s funny how we can go on about our days & sometimes forget the simple things that God has done. To eat and be full is a big blessing within itself!!

Thanking God for all things!

Daily Scriptures 5/12/11

Scripture: Proverbs 19:4 Wealth makes many “friends”; poverty drives them all away. (NLT)

Nugget: Some people are your “friends” for the things you have & what they can obtain from you. Once the things you have are gone, they are gone too. It’s so important to pray about the relationships we have in our lives; pray for discernment & God’s guidance regarding those in our lives.

True friends are there no matter what your situation may be; not for what you have & not for what you don’t have. True friends see the heart & not the material possessions. Thanking God for the great people He has placed in my life!

Quote: “I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let's face it, friends make life a lot more fun.” -Charles R. Swindoll

Daily Scriptures 5/13/11

Scripture: Job 33:4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Nugget: What an example of unwavering faith Job is for us. He never lost sight of God & all that God had done for Him. In the midst of his storm, Job continued to praise God. We definitely can follow this example when we’re facing what comes our way.

We were made by God & He has given us the breath that we breathe. All that we have, including life, is because of Him. If God knew enough to take care of all the little details that we take for granted (& the big ones too), we definitely should know that God is in control & never will stop working on our behalf.

Daily Scriptures 5/11/11

Scripture: Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (NIV)

Nugget: Forgiveness is something that I continue to work on; I believe this is definitely a characteristic of God that many of us struggle with. Because as we all know, God is a forgiving God, without any conditions attached to His forgiveness.

What I’ve learned so far on this prayerful road to forgiveness is that peace comes with forgiveness. If we truly forgive someone, we’re able to move on (with or without the person) & have peace about our decisions. By no means am I saying let someone take advantage of you, but I am saying once the decision is made to forgive, move on from the hurt, pain, etc. & continue towards God’s direction of peace (please keep in mind, peace may include removing the person or people from your life).

Thanking God for always being a forgiving God & for His work to instill this characteristic in me!

Quote: “Forgiveness is not saying the offense never happened. It did.
Forgiveness is not saying that everything is okay. It isn't.
Forgiveness is not saying we no longer feel the pain. We do.
I still feel the pain, but I am willing to let go of your involvement in my pain.
Forgiveness is an attitude of faith whereby you are able to turn over to God the business of how the other party is doing.
Forgiveness is saying, "I’m okay, and I am willing to let God deal with whether you are okay, and I am willing to let go of my need to be the instrument of correction and rebuke in your life.”” -Len Sweet

Daily Scriptures 5/10/11

Scripture: I Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people. (NLT)

Nugget: Daily, I strive to seek peace in God. I can admit this can be challenging due to the events of the day & the various things that come my way. However, to find the peace that only God can provide is a blessing. He wants us to have peace in Him.

God is definitely a God of peace; wherever you have disorder or confusion in your life, allow Him to step in & do His work. Do not let these things or people supersede the peace that God can provide.

Quote: "God wants you to have a good life, a life filled with love, joy, peace, and fulfillment. That doesn’t mean it will always be easy, but it does mean that it will always be good." –Joel Osteen

Daily Scriptures 5/9/11

Scripture: Deuteronomy 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you. (NIV)

Nugget: Moses was providing instruction from the Lord to the people of Israel. In the scriptures to follow, he provided specific commands that were not to be diverted from.

When reading this scripture, I focused on the words “do not subtract from it”; this reminds me of how people can add & subtract from God’s word. In doing this, conforming the word as to how they see fit. The thing is, this is not what God intended; His word is His word, period.

Be mindful of how you interpret God’s word & who you receive instruction from; pray for discernment & understanding. God will truly provide this!

Happy Mother's Day!! To all the mothers, grandmothers, dads who are mothers, godmothers, etc. Today is your day!! Wishing you a blessed day!!!!

Daily Scriptures 5/6/11

Scripture: II Timothy 1:5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. (NIV)

Nugget: In Paul’s words, he points out the faith of Timothy’s mother & grandmother that lived on in Timothy. What a foundation the women in our lives have set before us. Because of their faith & what they’ve passed on to us, their faith in God continues on for generations.

As Mother’s Day approaches, reflect on the love of mothers, aunts, grandmothers, godmothers, fathers who are mothers, friends, etc. Their unconditional love & faith will always be a part of us.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Daily Scripture 5/5/11

Scripture: Psalm 75:7 It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall. (NLT)

Nugget: God is the only one who can judge us! He decides who will rise & who will fall. This is why it’s so important for us to remember that all gifts & blessings come from Him.

This particular scripture usually is referenced with the saying, “Promotion comes from the Lord.” In reviewing the words here, I’m reminded of why this scripture & the saying go hand-in-hand. Because no matter what comes up against us, whatever God intends will come to pass. He has the final say so. He’s the one who continues to prepare us for what’s next.

There’s nothing like God’s promotion; it all comes in His time & what He has for us, no one can take it away! Thank you, Lord.

Thanking God....

Seven years ago today, I was Baptized. What a journey to get me to the point of taking that big step those years ago! I look back & thank God for each & every trial & tribulation that I experienced which led me closer to God.

God is a great God! He kept me back then & He continues to keep me know. What a blessing it is to know that our Father is in control of everything. What a blessing it is to know that even before I knew Him, He knew me & had His hands on me. I really don’t think that there’s enough breath in me to tell Him “Thank You” enough.

So as I celebrate today & look at the years passed, I have no regrets; I am grateful for His love, grace, & mercy!! I love the Lord & am so happy that He’s chosen me.

The Bible says, “It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.” (Psalm 75:7 NLT). This is the scripture that usually refers to the saying “Promotion comes from the Lord.” What true words these are. After a little over two years on my job, God has blessed me with a promotion! God has guided me along this journey & continues to do so!!

I always look back (& aim towards the future), knowing that all He has done is not because I’m so great, but because He is so great to me. He’s equipped me, prepared me, tested me, & kept me through the entire journey (& continues to do so)!

Our God is a great God; we must keep the faith through everything we face. There’s nothing He cannot handle for us. Most times, we’re in a place of preparation for what’s to come! Thanking God for preparing me & never giving up on me!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/4/11

Scripture: Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. (NIV)

Nugget: It’s okay to have a plan, but a well thought out & well advised plan is a good one. There is definitely importance in having a great adviser (or advisers) when working towards your goal or plan.

Thinking back, I reflect on those who God has brought into my life to help me to achieve a goal, plan, dream, & more. There’s no way these could’ve been achieved on my own.

Sometimes the plans we pray to achieve are based upon the counsel of others; the road to success includes other people who are placed in our lives in order to help us along the way.

Daily Scriptures 5/3/11

Scripture: Proverbs 20:24 A person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way? (NIV)

Nugget: Have you ever ended up somewhere and asked yourself, “How did I get here? How did I get to this place?” I believe we all can answer “Yes” to these questions! However, when looking back, this answer is derived because of the actions taken that were outside of God’s will.

We truly have to learn to get out of God’s way & let Him lead us. The human in all of us want to step out & most times, speed things up. The Holy Spirit in us knows that God’s got it all under control.

Whose will & whose directions are you following? Yours or God’s?

Daily Scriptures 5/2/11

Scripture: Romans 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (NIV)

Nugget: What’s in our hearts usually comes forth in what we speak; this includes the faith we have in our Lord. Just think on the love you have for your children, spouse, etc. If anyone asked you if you loved these people, you would provide an answer without a doubt! This should also be our reaction to the love we have for Jesus!

From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. May we continue to share the good news of our Lord, our faith, & all that He’s done for us.

Praise Song: "Speak into the Atmosphere"

This week's Praise Song is Myron Butler & Levi's "Speak into the Atmosphere".  There's so much power in the words we speak to ourselves & to our situations.  We must have the faith to call things that be not as though they were (Roman 4:17).  We must have the faith to see the vision that God has put in us to complete or achieve.

Do your words line up with your faith?  Do your words speak to your vision?  Do the words you speak mean anything??

Until next time.
