Lesson From A Washing Machine

In the past month, my washing machine (which I’ve had less than 4 years) stopped working properly. The machine would run, but the spin cycles were not happening like they used to. I called around to a few repair people & was told that it could be this or that, but in the meantime it appeared that the repair would cost just as much as a new machine. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed that this “new” machine had something wrong with it! However, I had options.

I ended up going to the laundry mat (with the help of a friend to find one!) to do my laundry. This didn’t bother me in the least because I was reminded of where God brought me from. I was reminded of how growing up, our machine broke at some point, & we were going to the laundry mat to do laundry for our entire family. God brought things into remembrance for me to give Him thanks & praise.

I’m beginning to never underestimate the things that God allows me to go through. Everything has a lesson and/or purpose; even if I don’t understand it at the time. In the midst of the storms I’m facing & have faced, I am learning more & more to look back to see where I came from, where I am now, & know that God is always in control. He’s handled things then & He continues to do so now.

The lesson(s) from the washing machine: thank God for where He has brought us from & where He’s taking us. Don’t get so caught up in things because they can be very temporary & will let you down, but God never will. Sometimes, He wants to remind us of just this!

Until next time.

Praise Song: "What's Going On"

This week's Praise Song isn't necessarily a praise song, but is one that is so relevant in today's times as it was when originally written. Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". This song has transcended it's time. Amazingly, we can relate to this song with the events going on today.

With everything that's been recently going on in the U.S. and the mass shootings, may we continue to pray for each other---looking onto God. There may be things that happen that we'll never understand, but we must remember & know in our hearts that God is ALWAYS in control.

May your heart be at peace today & always.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 12/10/12

Scriptures: John 15:18&20 18“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 20Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. (NKJV)

Nugget: Jesus was talking to His disciples in these scriptures. He was letting them know what was to come & what had already passed. The thing is, Jesus reminded them that what they would be experiencing was something He already had been through.

Most times, when we’re going through something, we feel as if we’re all alone or the only one who’s ever experienced it. At these times, I catch myself & say, “If I’m going through this, Jesus definitely went through more & has already experienced it.” These scriptures remind me of this.

No matter what you’re going through, Jesus has been there; He’s “been there & done that”. If they did it to Him & He’s experienced it, why wouldn’t we have some of those same things happen to us? So why not lean on Him, His mercy, & strength to make it through it?

Quote: "Once we recognize our need for Jesus, then the building of our faith begins. It is a daily, moment-by-moment life of absolute dependence upon Him for everything." -Catherine Marshall

Daily Scriptures 12/5/12

Scripture: Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are many things on our “to-do” lists that could be in the process of happening or have yet to happen. Could we be hindering the process of what’s on our lists? Are we being diligent in the things we seek, desire, & dream about accomplishing?

Diligence is the key to making many things happen; most times, diligence & determination go hand-in-hand. If we’re determined enough to make something happen, then we’re diligent enough to get out there with a plan & keep things moving along.

Let our diligent actions lead us to the plenty that God has for us & only for us. Let’s not be hasty or lackadaisical in making things happen!

Quotes: “It's the constant and determined effort that breaks down all resistance, sweeps away all obstacles.” -Claude M. Briston

“The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination.” -Tommy Lasorda

Daily Scriptures 12/4/12

Scripture: Isaiah 49:8 Thus says the LORD: “In an acceptable time I have heard You, And in the day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give, You As a covenant to the people, To restore the earth, To cause them to inherit the desolate heritages (NKJV)

Nugget: Do you ever have the feeling that you’re supposed to be somewhere else? Doing something else? Does it feel as if you’re not exactly where God wants you to be? At least, not just yet; it’s as if you’re in preparation for the next thing to come.

These are feelings that I’ve had in recent months; the hard part is, waiting on God’s timing & allowing preparation to occur. However, God’s timing is just that---His timing. We must know that anything He’s doing is for an intended purpose & plan. There’s nothing that we’re experiencing that He isn’t a part of.

As you pray & wait on God to allow His will for your life to come into being, do not lose faith in yourself & most importantly, in Him. He is preserving us & preparing us for our inheritance to come!

Quote: “Delays are not refusals; many a prayer is registered, and underneath it the words: "My time is not yet come." God has a set time as well as a set purpose, and He who orders the bounds of our habitation orders also the time of our deliverance.” -Anonymous

Running Update: I Did It!!!

Today, I did it---ran my first Half Marathon!!! I’m definitely proud, tired, excited, & then some. I have to admit, at some point during the race I thought, “What did I get myself into?” LOL. But the push of my friends, family, running partner & running group kept me going. I also began to imagine the finish line!

This is definitely encouragement for anyone who thinks they cannot do something, but would like to try. I’m by no means a runner, but one of my friends suggested we train for a Half Marathon (that particular race is coming up next year); I wanted to try to do a race a little earlier to see where I was & where I needed to improve. I thank this friend for bringing up the idea---I’ll continue training for both of us & make us proud! :) (She’s been unable to train due to an injury).

My first Half Marathon results:

Time: 2 hours 55 minutes
Total Miles: 13.8
Prize: Self accomplishment & great achievement!

Daily Scriptures 11/26/12

Scriptures: Psalm 78:3-4 3Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. 4We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. (NKJV)

Nugget: The impact parents & fellow Christian adults have on children is huge. What children learn from these adults can impact their future walk with God & all there is to learn about Him & our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

These scriptures remind me of going to church with my Grandma, going to Sunday School at a young age, & enjoying the words that were taught to me. Those early days of my Christian walk are still with me, as well as the individuals who had an impact on me.

Let’s not be blind to the impact we could & do have on the youth. There’s so much for us to instill in them---teach them, do not hide God’s word from them, & continue to touch future generations with the goodness of God & his strength & wonderful works!

Praise Song: "Something Out of Nothing"

A friend recommended Jessica Reedy's music to me. I've listened to a few of her songs & love them! This week's Praise Song is "Something Out of Nothing". What a beautiful song! This song brings tears to my eyes & I can listen to it over & over!! Thank you, Lord, for touching my life & seeing what You see in me. I'm truly blessed.

May this song touch your heart!

Daily Scriptures 11/19/12

Scripture: Psalm 4:4 Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah (NKJV)

Nugget: Anger can be an emotion that makes us do things we thought we’d never do. The actions behind reacting out of anger usually follow with our regrets, wishing we’d never done something.

Before reacting, we must take the time to be still, meditate, & pray on the direction we should take. We know that “two wrongs don’t make a right”, so it’s best to take a step back, be still, & seek God before reacting.

Don’t allow anger to be a ruling force in your life that brings on regret.

Quote: “How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it.” -Marcus Aurelius

Daily Scriptures 11/15/12

Scripture: Psalm 119:68 You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of us have heard the saying, “God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good.” This is what today’s scripture reminded me of. There’s no limit to God’s goodness. He continues to bless us day in and day out. All we have to do is follow Him, believe in His word, & love & accept His son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord & Savior.

May we not only know that God is good, but may we seek Him & His will daily. Each day is an opportunity for us to experience the goodness of God, but it is also an opportunity for us to learn & to grow in Him as well.

Quote: “A person who wholly follows the Lord is one who believes that the promises of God are trustworthy, that He is with His people, and that they are well able to overcome.” -Watchman Nee

Daily Scriptures 11/14/12

Scripture: Psalm 102:17 He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas. (NLT)

Nugget: We’ve all gone through the times where we feel that God isn’t listening & isn’t answering our prayers. We wonder if He’s up there & what could be going on. It’s as if He’s disappeared on us!

However, God is always there. We may feel that He isn’t, but He most definitely is. God always listens & is always available. He may not answer in the manner or time we expect, but He doesn’t reject the prayers from our hearts & what we send up to Him.

May we continue to seek God in all things; even when we feel discouraged. Our God is not rejecting us, but perfecting something in us that can only come from Him.

Daily Scriptures 11/13/12

Scripture: I Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. (NKJV)

Nugget: In many conversations & during many sermons, we have heard it being stated that, “We are in the last days.” Events, on-goings, & other things we see & experience are showing us that this is true.

It’s so important for us to draw nearer to God, to allow Him into our thoughts, actions, & deeds. We must share His gospel with those we know, for indeed the last days are upon us.

How serious are we about our relationship with God? Our walk with Him? Getting into His word? Our prayers? Do we know Jesus? Let us be serious & become more serious about these things & our prayers.

Quote: “Not only do we not know God except through Jesus Christ; we do not even know ourselves except through Jesus Christ.” -Blaise Pascal

Running Update: The Big 10!!

I’m continuing to prepare for the half marathon that I’m registered for. However, I actually registered for a half marathon in December in addition to the one I want to complete in February.  I’ve been in preparation since this past February.

Well, my running partner & I hit a milestone yesterday! We ran our first 10 miles! Whooo hooo! I haven’t done this before & it’s a great accomplishment for sure! Now, if we can do 10, we can do the upcoming 13.1 (half marathon!)

Our running group has recently completed a run in our town along Pres. Barack Obama Parkway; this is a recently opened street in our town. We completed the run to encourage voting (not to encourage voting for a particular candidate). It was a good time!

Yep, my new running shoes have been getting a workout for sure!!

Daily Scriptures 11/5/12

Scripture: Psalm 47:2 For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. (NKJV)

Nugget: With so many things going on now-a-days, we must take the time to focus & to re-focus on God. No matter what people say, what the news says, & how we may get discouraged, we must remember that our God is awesome. Once we focus on God, & all that He has done, our load can be lighter because we know about His amazing works.

There’s nothing happening that isn’t in His plan to happen. Don’t let things, people, & situations discourage you. Our God is a great King & His awesomeness is cannot be measured.

Daily Scriptures 10/31/12

Scripture: Mark 9:29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, Jesus removed a spirit out of a person. His disciples questioned why they themselves couldn’t get the spirit out of this same person. Jesus’ response, some things come by “prayer & fasting”.

This scripture made me think about how many things we’ve missed out on, or questioned God about, & why they haven’t been received. It is possible that we haven’t received these things because we aren’t both praying and fasting. Most times, we’re probably doing one without the other, but not both. It may take both things happening to bring things into action.

In your prayer life, take time to add fasting to it. This can be a challenging act for many of us, but God calls us to do it as well. It may be the action that allows us to grow into the next level with Him & what He’s preparing us for; some things only come by prayer and fasting.

Quote: “Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.” -Andrew Murray

Daily Scriptures 10/25/12

Scripture: Psalm 66:20 Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me! (NIV)

Nugget: We’ve all gone through the times when we feel that God isn’t listening to us or that our prayers are falling on deaf ears. We wonder, “Is anything happening?”

During these times, I’ve learned, & am continuing to learn, that it’s not that nothing is going on; it’s during these times that God is working things out in my favor. Whether it be that He is preparing me for what’s to come or preparing that place, thing, person, opportunity, etc. for me to receive, He’s still working.

God loves us too much not to listen to our prayers; even if we think that He’s rejecting our desires, He knows what is best. His love for us doesn’t allow for Him to reject us, but allows for His will & ways to be the driving forces to answer our prayers---all according to His plans.

Quote: “Trusting God is the greatest benefit we have as believers.” -Joyce Meyer

Daily Scriptures 10/24/12

Scripture: Proverbs 3:26 For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, we’re reminded not to be afraid & to have peace in our lives. There are many things in life that bring upon the emotion of fear in our minds & hearts. However, these things shouldn’t be what rule us; God knew that we would have fear & face things that would put this emotion in us, but He also knew that He would be there for & with us through it all.

May your prayer today be to trust God through whatever you’re facing; may the fear dissipate & your confidence shine through because of Him. There’s no fear in the Lord, but strength beyond our belief.

Quote: “It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.” -Gordon B. Hinckley

Daily Scriptures 10/17/12

Scripture: John 16:12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (NKJV)

Nugget: In this chapter (& in the ones before & after), Jesus was telling His disciples of the things to come. However, there were some things He didn’t mention during this time. These were either the things that it wasn’t the time for the disciples to hear, or they weren’t prepared to hear & receive these things just yet.

This is how it is with us; there are some things we aren’t ready to hear or to know yet. We are either in preparation for these things or God is waiting for His time to reveal it to us. Sometimes, we may wonder “why this” hasn’t happened yet, or “why that” didn’t work out like I wanted it to? We must realized that there are things we aren’t ready for, they/it could not be in God’s will, or we still need to grow to receive them.

Thank God for the preparation; we don’t want to receive anything, or anyone, before it’s time. God leaves no stone unturned---this includes preparing us for what lies ahead & providing us protection in the process.

Quote: “How often we expect big things from God without preparing for big things from Him.” -Beth Moore

Daily Scriptures 10/15/12

Scriptures: Psalm 121:5-6 5The LORD watches over you—the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. (NIV)

Nugget: Lately, I’ve been focusing more & more on God’s presence in my life. Of course, I know that God is there in the midst of everything, but at times, the human side of me can focus on other things & people. Sometimes, my initial reaction can be to focus on these things, people, & even myself before God, but in recent months, my initial reaction is God.

God is always watching over each & every one of us. There’s nothing that we experience that His hand isn’t a part of in some form (whether it’s to grow our faith or to strengthen us), God is there. He is our Father, protector, healer, & so much more.

Quote: “All that I have seen teaches me to trust God for all I have not seen.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 10/10/12

Scripture: Isaiah 44:8 Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’” (NKJV)

Nugget: Fear, it can be the thing that consumes us--the thing that we allow to get in the way of our faith. Sometimes, fear can even be the thing that pushes us into the unknown--in the sense that we step out on faith in the midst of our fear(s). Either way, faith in God should be our driving force.

This scripture points out a characteristic that we must all grow in; although our fears differ, our faith in God should still be intact. God says, “Have I not told you from that time and declared it?” Not only has He told us something, but He has declared it will happen! There’s no one like our God who keeps His promises---all in His time.

When the voice (or voices) of doubt & fear come your way, or are even present in your daily thinking, remove them with thoughts of God & what He has declared on your life. If God says something will happen, it will happen. He is our Rock, our promise keeper!

Quote: “A promise is a powerful thing, for it does not usually meet an immediate need but it inspires us to persevere present sufferings knowing something good will eventually come. A promise has the power to transform the present even if it doesn't come into existence until the future. What promises keep you going, are you really standing on God's promises?” -Rev. Dennis Marquardt

Praise Song: "Take Me To The King"

This week's Praise Song is Tamela Mann's "Take Me To The King". Tamela has such an amazing voice! I've loved her music since seeing her in Tyler Perry's plays.

May this song inspire you! Strong words for those of us who are going through things & seeking God's face in the midst of it all!

Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart is torn in pieces
It's my offering Take me to the King
Truth is I’m tired
Options are few
I’m trying to pray
But where are you?
I’m all churched out
Hurt and abused
I can’t fake
What’s left to do?
Truth is I’m weak
No strength to fight
No tears to cry
Even if I tried
But still my soul
Refuses to die
One touch will change my life
Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart's torn in pieces
It’s my offering
Lay me at the throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon
Your glory
And sing to
You this song
Please take me to the King
Truth is it’s time
To stop playing these games
We need a word
For the people’s pain
So Lord speak right now
Let it fall like rain
We just ran
We’re chasing after You
No rules, no religion
I’ve made my decision
To run to you The Healer that I need

Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart’s torn to pieces
It’s my offering
Lay me at the throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon Your glory
And to sing to You this song
Take me to the King
Glory in the way
We keep making mistakes
Glory is not for us
It’s all for You
Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart’s torn to pieces
It’s my offering
Lay me at the throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon Your glory
And sing to You this song
(x3)Take me to the King

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/8/12

Scriptures: Psalm 107:42-43 42The righteous see it and rejoice, And all iniquity stops its mouth. 43Whoever is wise will observe these things, And they will understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to these, the various blessings given to God’s people are mentioned. There are so many things that God had done for His people & these were being acknowledged.

These scriptures are reminders to me to count my blessings daily---no matter what is going on or how the day may seem, God is always present & is always in it. The scripture mentions, “all iniquity stops its mouth”---to me, this means to stop the negative talking & thoughts in order to allow positivity in.

There shouldn’t be any part of our day that we don’t seek God & thank Him for His mercy, grace, & favor. We should be wise & observe the things of God that He has blessed us with. He loves us too much not to provide a blessing (or blessings) in each & every day.

Quote: “A good memory is one that can remember the day's blessings and forget the day's troubles.” -Irish Blessing

Daily Scriptures 10/3/12

Scriptures: Proverbs 3:13&17 13Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding 17Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. (NIV)

Nugget: Wisdom is something we all seek & seek to grow in. There shouldn’t be a day where we don’t learn something new or grow in some area of our lives.

I’m learning that the more wisdom I gain, the more peace I have. With wisdom comes the peace & knowledge that everything will be okay, especially okay according to God’s plans. In this understanding, I’ve learned to step back & get better at taking things as they come.

Today, set out to learn something new or to grow more in some area of your life. It could be starting with something simple, but start somewhere & work to get an understanding in order for your wisdom & peace to grow.

Daily Scriptures 10/2/12

Scriptures: Psalm 86:12-13 12With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever, 13for your love for me is very great. You have rescued me from the depths of death. (NLT)

Nugget: “With all my heart” I should praise God. There should be no reason that I give Him a half-hearted praise. God has done so much for me & within me; He deserves all praise.

Our praise life should be just as strong as our prayer life. Of course God wants us to seek things from Him & through Him, but are we always asking Him for something without acknowledging Him through praise? Just think, if you were (or are) a parent & your children consistently ask you for things without giving you thanks, how would this make you feel?

God’s love for us is so great; no one loves us like He does. Offer God praise & thanks today.

Quote: “It's a poor frog who doesn't praise its own pond.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 10/1/12

Scripture: Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of us can speak words & take actions to justify the things we do. We can do wrong & make a statement or justification as to why it was a “good” thing & in reality it was not. We can see the “right” in anything if we justify it by our thoughts, & sometimes, our desires to make it right.

This can also be said for those we surround ourselves with & those we seek advice from. For instance, have you ever gone to someone for advice because you knew they would agree with your actions, even though you knew your actions would be wrong? You tend to avoid advice from the person who would “tell it like it is” or “call you out” on what you planned to do.

In reality, in any of these scenarios, we know right from wrong; we know good from bad & light from darkness. Plus, if we have to “justify” what we’re doing, most likely it’s something we should step back from.

May we stayed prayed up about our actions & decisions---knowing what’s right & wrong in God’s eyes.

Quote: “It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” -Tony Robbins

Daily Scriptures 9/28/12

Scriptures: Philippians 3:14-15 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. (NKJV)

Nugget: Daily, I remind myself (or am reminded by friends & family) to stay focused on God. So many things & people can be a distraction to remaining focused on God. What’s important is that no matter how much we may lose focus, it’s not difficult to find God & to call upon Him----He hasn’t moved. If we stray, God allows us to refocus on Him & to change our mindset.

If we are going in a different direction, God will reveal this to us. We must seek Him; having the mindset of Jesus---not straying from His will & guidance.

I challenge you to use today to stay focus, or to refocus, on God. Then turn today’s actions into tomorrow’s actions & so forth.

Daily Scriptures 9/27/12

Scripture: Psalm 8:9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (NIV)

Nugget: God is a God of the world; I was reminded of this yesterday. I had the opportunity to see a presentation about my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted all over the world. These fellow Christians are persecuted because of their faith in our Lord, Jesus, & for proclaiming their faith out loud & in public.

We take so much for granted; especially those of us who live in places where we can proclaim our faith & beliefs. Could you imagine not being able to say how majestic & wonderful our Lord is?? Not being able to say His name??

Let us pray for our fellow brothers and sisters; they need our prayers more than anything. God doesn’t just stop here; His name is majestic in all the earth!

Quote: “I have joyfully dedicated my whole life to the object of exemplifying how much may be accomplished by prayer and faith.” -George Mueller

Daily Scriptures 9/26/12

Scripture: Philippians 3:1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. (NIV)

Nugget: We all need the reminder (or reminders) to remain encouraged! Daily, we face many challenges, but an encouraging word comes right on time. Sometimes, the encouraging word is needed over & over again, but it’s needed to keep us going & focused.

Although there’s nothing wrong with hearing the encouragement as needed, don’t take the words & do nothing with them---put them in your mind, actions, & thoughts. This is how safeguards & faith are built.

Thanking God for all those who encourage me!

Stop Stopping Yourself

Stop Stopping Yourself…
Stop stopping yourself. Stop holding yourself back.

Yes, the world throws all sorts of difficult challenges your way. And you can find a way to transcend every one of them.

Yet you must choose to do so. You must make the commitment, deep within yourself, to live with richness and purpose and fulfillment.

Many events, people and situations will challenge you and impede your progress. However, the only limitations that can stop you completely are the limitations you place on yourself.

See that the doubts and limiting beliefs are of no use to you. Choose to simply and effortlessly let them go, just like that.

Your dreams are calling to you right now, calling for you to begin living them in this very moment. Stop holding yourself back, and let yourself be all you know you can be.

—Ralph Marston

Daily Scriptures 9/25/12

Scriptures: Psalm 130:3-4 3If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. (NIV)

Nugget: No one has forgiveness like God; He continues to forgive us over & over again. In looking back over my life, there are many things that I’ve done that people wouldn’t & haven’t forgiven me for, but God has. If God kept a record of this, the list would never end, BUT God’s forgiveness---there’s nothing like it.

God forgiving us allows us to forgive ourselves & others, to make room to serve Him. If we continue to hold on to unforgiveness, of both others & ourselves, where would we be? We wouldn’t be able to grow & to serve God with our whole hearts. Harboring unforgiveness weighs us down & hinders us.

Let us work to be more forgiving of others & of ourselves; let us adopt God’s attitude regarding this.

Quote: "Forgiveness is God's invention for coming to terms with a world in which, despite their best intentions, people are unfair to each other and hurt each other deeply. He began by forgiving us. And he invites us all to forgive each other." -Lewis B. Smedes

Daily Scriptures 9/24/12

Scripture: Romans 9:16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. (NIV)

Nugget: We sometimes have the desire or want for certain things or people in our lives; however, these desires may not be in God’s will for us. We can pray & pray on these wants, but nothing appears to be happening. The thing is, this could be God’s way of keeping these wants/desires out of our lives as His intended purpose and/or promise is for something or someone else for us.

We must keep in mind that if God doesn’t have something for us, then it will not be. Even if we receive it temporarily, if it’s not in God’s will for it to stay, then it will not be. God’s mercy & grace supersedes anything that we can imagine or think---our request to receive His promises are based upon His will.

Praise Song: "Life and Favor"

This week's Praise Song is John P. Kee's "Life and Favor". I heard this song on the way to church today & it touched my heart. Sometimes we have to look back & remember where God has brought us from. We may not be where we want to be, but God's favor has allowed us not to be where or who we used to be!!

As long as we live, we have life, & by God's mercy & grace, we have His favor!! Thank you, Lord.

May this song touch you as well!

Until next time.

Running Update: Summer 2012

I’m sticking to running! It’s interesting because I didn’t realize I’d like it as much as I do. Maybe it’s the challenge or maybe being around positive & encouraging people (I’m part of a good running group, you’ll have to check out Black Girls Run! to see if there’s a group in your area), but either way, I’m making great progress.

For the Summer, the running group issued a challenge to us---to complete 100 miles running/walking/treadmill/elliptical/etc. by the end of the Summer (June-August). I actually completed 133 miles total! Definitely proud of myself. We have a new challenge for the Fall months---120 miles for September-December! I know I’ll do it.

On another note, I did sign up for to complete a Half Marathon in December; I hope to make it!! LOL. This will be preparation for the “big one” in February!

Keep cheering me on!! Hitting the pavement this week too.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. -Philippians 4:13

Until next time.

God's Timing

Do you ever feel that God is trying to tell you something? At first, you’re uncertain, but as time goes on, He continues to send confirmation, reaffirmation, & more concerning the things you’re seeking from Him. Whether it’s making a “small” decision to a “big” one, He’s continuing to tell you something through your doubts & uncertainties. I’ve been feeling this way lately.

I think that every few years or so, we undergo a change or a shifting (as my Pastor is preaching on). This change could actually come every few months or so, but I believe that it’s necessary to remind us to keep moving forward & to keep growing in our faith & in life. There should be no reason we should be in the same situation month after month, year after year. God has instilled in us to do more & to be more, especially in our walk with Him & in utilizing the gifts that He’s put in us.

Lately, I’ve felt like I’ve been sitting on my gifts; allowing other things & people to supersede the things that God has put in my heart to do. I’ve been doing self-evaluations (some of them forced self-evaluations!) to recheck myself & the direction that I’m going in. This can be a good thing for us to do because before we know it, time has gotten away from us & we’re no closer to the dreams we originally set out to accomplish.

Time is waiting for no one; furthermore, the next moment isn’t guaranteed. We must not forget this as we’re “waiting for the right time” to get things done & to step out on faith. Sometimes, probably most times, the “right time” is now. Stop putting off the dreams that you have, stop waiting for the “right time”; focus on God’s time & what He’s guiding you to do. There’s so much left for us to get done during the precious time we have here on Earth.

What are we waiting for?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/6/12

Scripture: Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (NIV)

Nugget: Today, I woke up challenging my thoughts of anything negative by combating them with positive affirmation & words. I began to reflect on the power of positive words & how these words can take me further than any situation I am facing.

These same words & action of positivity are what I do my best to show others. At some point, we all need the encouragement of a friend, family member, spouse, etc. to help us along the way. We are here to help & encourage each other; for most times, what we’ve experienced has the underlying purpose of us encouraging & helping someone else.

Take time today to encourage someone; this could make a world of difference for that person.

Quote: “Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” -Mahatma Gandhi

Daily Scriptures 9/5/12

Scripture: Psalm 3:5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. (NIV)

Nugget: Daily, I’m reminded of how precious life is. By watching the news, & even within our own families, we learn of the loss of lives. Each day is definitely not guaranteed.

It’s imperative that we appreciate the gift of each day; no matter what the day brings, you’re living! Don’t forget to live each day as if it’s your last.

When we went to sleep last night, there was no promise that we would wake up today. By God’s grace & mercy, his sustained us through the night---allowing us to see another day. He even woke us up clothed in our right minds with the ability to move! Use this day wisely!

Quote: “If you need something to be grateful for then check your pulse. Remember to always be thankful for the gift of life.” -Unknown

Rest and Sleep

Lately, I’ve been having various conversations about rest & sleep. The origination of these conversations dealt with my extreme tiredness due to many events that have been going on. To be honest, the events include an accumulation of things that have been going on over a long period of time. I feel that many of these things have caught up with me. Yet, I’m reminded of the importance of rest & sleep.

I know that I’m not one who gets “enough sleep” at night, but most times, I feel that I’m sleeping. However, friends have pointed out to me that I need to get rest! (Thank God for good friends who tell it like it is) It wasn’t until their advice that it clicked to me that there’s a difference between rest & sleep. Being the person I am, I had to look this up……..

My trusty reference, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, states the following:
• Rest: peace of mind or spirit
• Sleep: a state resembling sleep: as a state of torpid inactivity

Rest, it seems that I’m struggling to get this. My mind is always going, I’m working to alleviate this & have been praying on it. But peace of mind & spirit is something that I want. Because I’m learning that with this, sleep is better. There’s no way to sleep with my mind always going.

Sleep, inactivity. Hmmmm, something that I’m not good at. Inactivity?? Wow, I don’t know how to do this, but I’m learning that inactivity is just as important as activity.  Sleep comes with inactivity; otherwise, our minds & bodies are constantly going. And believe me, no rest & no sleep will catch up with you! (It has definitely happened to me)

So what do I do now? I am praying on it, putting my quest for peaceful sleep & rest to the forefront. All things come from God----I know this is achievable through Him. There are many lessons He’s teaching me & this one has truly opened my eyes.

May your rest & sleep be great---don’t take for granted the importance of these elements in your life as God wants us to have the balance we need in order to lead the lives He’s intends for us.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/28/12

Scriptures: Isaiah 66:1-2 1This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? 2Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the LORD. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word. (NIV)

Nugget: God has made everything; there’s nothing we see that He hasn’t created. He sits on His throne & can see all that He’s made. He didn’t just make us & leave us here to fend for ourselves; He made us, continues to love us, & continues to watch over earth until our day comes to be with Him in Heaven.

Thanking God for continuing to look on us with favor; we must continue to possess the humbleness in our spirits & respect for God. We must keep His word in us & continue to display His love daily. Don’t think or feel that God isn’t with you. He is always present.

Daily Scriptures 8/15/12

Scripture: Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment. (NIV)

Nugget: Most times, when you ask someone what they would like to achieve in life, the response is, “To be happy.” This would also be one of the answers I would provide for myself. One of the main challenges we face is how to get to this happiness we seek.

Our purpose in life should be to obey & serve God. In doing this, our relationship with Him is strengthened & we obtain the joy that can only come from Him. In this joy, our happiness lies.

Serving God opens the doors to prosperity & contentment. As long as we are focused on Him & His ways, our lives will be according to His plan.

Quote: “Spread out your petition before God, and then say, "Thy will, not mine, be done." The sweetest lesson I have learned in God's school is to let the Lord choose for me.” -D.L. Moody

Daily Scriptures 8/14/12

Scripture: Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture makes me think about the song, “This Little Light of Mine”, & how our lights should be shining always. This “light” is the God in us that people see on a daily basis. Because He is in us, there’s no reason we should be going around showing anything other than His love, patience, actions, etc.

“The glory of the Lord rises upon you”---wow, do we know the power we have in Him? Can we even grasp how good God is to us; how big His light is & should be in us? This light should have people coming to you; there should be “something about you” that people want to be like & to be around. This “something” is our Lord.

Is your light shining today?

Quote: "There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." -Edith Wharton

Daily Scriptures 8/13/12

Scriptures: Psalm 18:25-27 25To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. 26To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the wicked you show yourself hostile. 27You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud. (NLT)

Nugget: In reading these scriptures, I’m reminded that people cannot fool God. These scriptures point out that what we put out there is what we get in return. God shows us the same measure of faith & actions that we put into the atmosphere. “The the faithful”, He shows Himself faithful. To the wicked, He shows Himself hostile, & so forth.

This is why it’s imperative for us to have the heart & mind to act in the manner that’s pleasing to God; we cannot allow the action or inaction of others to impact our desire to please God. He sees all & knows all---He will handle everything according to His will.

How are you showing yourself to God? Is it according to His will or your own?

Quote: “Doing the will of God leaves me no time for disputing about His plans.” -George MacDonald

Most of us have heard the saying, "Time heals all wounds." Isn't it amazing how easy this saying rolls off of our tongue until we're in a situation where we have to face it?

I recently posted that my Grandpa passed away. It's still surreal to me. At first, I thought I would be able to handle my feelings well; meaning, I would be able to handle things & continue to move forward. However, what I've learned is that the grieving process brings on a different set of emotions. These emotions can range anywhere from remembering the happy times to crying about the happy times & the conversations my Grandpa & I have had. I also find myself crying out of nowhere. Something will trigger tears. This has shown me the importance of letting my feelings out & allowing the emotions to run their course.

What I've learned during this all: you never get over someone passing on. You learn to keep going, but the person will always be a part of you, both in your heart & in your spirit. Additionally, the person would not want us to be sad about them leaving us, but would want us to enjoy the time we have left on Earth, while remembering & rejoicing in the good times we've had with them.

God has also presented me with other realities I must face; these aren't good or necessarily bad, but things that God intends for me to grow from. I can't say that it is an easy process, but I'm definitely not where I used to be!

I usually write about time in the context of appreciating each moment & how precious it is (I definitely believe in this), but I also want to point out the importance of time & how we must allow ourselves time, period. It can be anything from the time to grieve, to the time to take time for ourselves, to time to do absolutely nothing. Whatever this "time" is for you, use it & know the purpose behind it.

In the midst of everything, God is always working everything out for our good.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/9/12

Scripture: Psalm 73:24 You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory. (NKJV)

Nugget: God is seeking those who trust Him & those who love His son, Jesus Christ. In doing these things, God knows our hearts & minds are focused on Him. In living our lives for Him, in the end, He promises us a place in His kingdom.

Our lives should be a continuous representation of Him & preparation for our place in glory. Our Father expects nothing less.

Quotes: “When we die and go to Heaven, our Maker is not going to say, “Why didn't you discover the cure for such and such?” The only thing we're going to be asked at that precious moment is “Why didn't you become you?”” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 8/8/12

Scripture: Isaiah 26:12 LORD, You will establish peace for us, For You have also done all our works in us. (NKJV)

Nugget: There’s something about peace, especially the peace that comes from our Lord. The peace that comes from Him brings us joy, direction, & so much more. Even on the days where we feel that peace is far away, God establishes the peace that we need.

God leaves no stone unturned; we must know that if He’s establishing peace for & in us, that He’s continuing to work to develop something in us---we’re a continuous work in process.

My mom always says, “A peace of mind goes a long way.” This is something that I take with me on a daily basis. Of course, there are days where I have to remind myself, but it’s imperative not to lose sight of it.

Quote: “Blessed are the single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace. If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from that clearness of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness you will know what His will is.” -Amy Wilson-Carmichael

Daily Scriptures 8/7/12

Scripture: Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD (NIV)

Nugget: In all areas of our lives, God is present. Lately, I’ve been praying about following God’s direction & plans for my life. I came across this scripture & it’s so fitting. We have wisdom, understanding, counsel, & knowledge in the Lord. All of these things come from respecting Him & His plans for us. Everything we need is in God. We must turn to Him & His word to show us where to start.

If you are praying for direction & guidance for the next phase of your life, or any decision for that matter, turn to God first. Don’t let the things that could overwhelm you about changing your direction or plans get in the way of you seeing God’s presence in all things. Everything we need is in Him.

Take Time

Last Monday, I sent the following message to my friends & family in an email:

"Take time for the people God has put in your life." -Joel Osteen. Everyone, life is so short; let us not forget the blessings God has placed in our lives. Who do you need to call today? Who haven't you seen or talked to in a while? Who are you waiting "until tomorrow" to call? Make time for the things & people who are important. We never know when our last day will be. Blessings!"

This message definitely hit home, because on Wednesday, I loss my Grandpa. I'm glad he knew I loved him; I'm grateful for our almost weekly conversations & the time I had with him. I will miss him, but know that he's with the Lord.

My Grandpa was my only living grandparent. A few years ago, I told myself that I would make & take the time to get to know him (I didn’t meet him until my late teenage years). Although I missed some years with him, the time I had with him will always remain in my heart & be precious to me. Let us take & make the time for loved ones & the people that God has blessed us with. Time is fleeting; life is short. Don’t waste any of it.

Love you, Grandpa! Always in my heart.

Please pray for my family during our time of bereavement. It’s greatly appreciated :)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/25/12

Scriptures: Psalm 119:59-60 59I thought about my life, and I decided to follow your rules. 60I hurried and did not wait to obey your commands. (NCV)

Nugget: There have been many times when I’ve reflected on my life & the question of “What’s next?” At these moments, I realized the magnitude of following God & His will for my life. However, the “me” in myself wants to step in, losing patience with myself & the time it will take for things to happen. I end up wanting to step in front of God.

I thank God for the lessons learned during the times I want to get in front of Him. There’s no point in hurrying God, because everything will happen according to His plans. Most times, we are in preparation for the “What’s next?” in our lives. Let us remember to wait on Him & follow His will for our lives.

Quote: “The most important lesson that I have learned is to trust God in every circumstance. Lots of times we go through different trials and following God's plan seems like it doesn't make any sense at all. God is always in control and he will never leave us.” -Allyson Felix

Daily Scriptures 7/24/12

Scripture: Isaiah 45:3 I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. (NIV)

Nugget: Everything we have is because of God; He’s made everything & everyone on this Earth. However, as humans, many think that what they have & what they’ve accomplished are out of their own will, but it’s not--God has given us all blessings, especially the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, dying for our sins.

I believe this scripture is a reminder of the times where we can get above ourselves & lose sight of God--thinking we’ve done it all ourselves. God reminds us that there are things that only He can do---He gives us those “hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places”. When this happens, we can attribute it to no one but Him!! Just think on the times that God answered a prayer that you didn’t even pray! He blessed you in spite of yourself; that’s God providing “hidden” blessings & treasures!

What a great & mighty God we serve!!! Keep an eye out for the hidden blessings of God.

Daily Scriptures 7/23/12

Scripture: Psalm 131:2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. (NIV)

Nugget: The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines contentment as: “the quality or state of being contented” (feeling or showing satisfaction with one's possessions, status, or situation). Contentment is difficult for most of us to achieve. For me, I tend to stay “on the go” most days, rather than slowing down & smelling the roses. To me, contentment includes having peace in my life; sometimes, the “on the go” of my day & the stressors of life, remove the peace & contentment that I am seeking.

What do you need to do or remove from your life to achieve the contentment God wants for you? What do you need to do to calm & quiet yourself to have the peace that you’re seeking? The first step is believing God for it; the next step is taking action to get there.

Quote: “Contentment is not satisfaction. It is the grateful, faithful, fruitful use of what we have, little or much. It is to take the cup of Providence, and call upon the name of the Lord. What the cup contains is its contents. To get all there is in the cup is the act and art of contentment. Not to drink because one has but half a cup, or because one does not like its flavor, or because someone else has silver to one's own glass, is to lose the contents; and is the penalty, if not the meaning of discontent. No one is discontented who employs and enjoys to the utmost what he has. It is high philosophy to say, we can have just what we like, if we like what we have; but this much at least can be done, and this is contentment,--to have the most and best in life, by making the most and best of what we have.” -Maltbie Davenport (Mattie D) Babcock

Daily Scriptures 7/17/12

Scripture: Proverbs 10:8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. (NIV)

Nugget: There’s so much importance in listening & hearing what someone is telling us. Notice that I’ve stated “listening & hearing”, because to both listen & hear, it takes action. If you do one without the other, most times, nothing gets accomplished.

Let’s not spend so much time talking that we’re missing the lessons that God wants us to learn from those around us. We definitely do not want to be “foolish” as stated in this scripture. To be wise, learning, & growing shows progression in the right direction!

Quote: "There is no such thing as a worthless conversation, provided you know what to listen for. And questions are the breath of life for a conversation." -James Nathan Miller

Daily Scriptures 7/11/12

Scripture: Isaiah 49:4 I replied, “But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the LORD’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.” (NLT)

Nugget: There are many times we feel the words expressed in this scripture; we feel that we’ve done our best, given everything to the work we complete, the jobs we have, & the people we help, & it seems as if it’s all in vain. During these same times, it’s as if we’ve worked ourselves until we couldn’t work ourselves any more.

I’m learning that there’s nothing in our lives we cannot turn over to God; this includes matters of work (whether this be in our professional or personal lives). There’s nothing God can’t handle for us---we must seek His guidance through prayer, meditation, & spending time with Him. This allows us to trust Him & to leave everything in our Lord’s hands. There’s nothing we shouldn’t seek from Him!

Quote: “All God's revelations are sealed to us until they are opened to us by obedience. You will never get them open by philosophy or thinking. Immediately you obey, a flash of light comes. Let God's truth work in you by soaking in it, not by worrying into it. Obey God in the thing He is at present showing you, and instantly the next thing is opened up. We say, I suppose I shall understand these things some day. You can understand them now: it is not study that does it, but obedience. The tiniest fragment of obedience, and heaven opens up and the profoundest truths of God are yours straight away. God will never reveal more truth about Himself till you obey what you know already. Beware of being wise and prudent.” -Oswald Chambers

Daily Scriptures 7/10/12

Scriptures: Obadiah 1:3-4 3The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’ 4Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD. (NIV)

Nugget: When reading this scripture, the saying, “The same people you see on your way up, you’ll see on your way back down” comes to mind. Pride & loftiness can be the downfall of man; especially those who believe they have received everything they’ve worked for “on their own”. When in reality, all that we have & all that we do is because of God’s mercy & grace.

God can give & He can take away; don’t let pride be your downfall. Give thanks to God in all things; acknowledge His blessings & presence. Don’t take for granted what He’s done, because just as God’s blessing is like no other, God’s wrath is just as strong!

Quote: “The wrath of God is a way of saying that I have been living in a way that is contrary to the love that is God. Anyone who begins to live and grow away from God, who lives away from what is good, is turning his life toward wrath.” -Joseph Ratzinger

For My Singletons, Pt. 19

During my devotional time today, I was reading my T.D. Jakes Woman Thou Art Loosed! Bible. (This is one of the best gifts I’ve ever received). I came across this message for my fellow Singleton sisters (this message can also apply to the single male).

God’s Handmaidens

Some of you do not understand the benefits of being single. In reality, while you're not married, you really ought to be involved with God. Single women often forget some very important advantages they have. At five o'clock in the morning, you can lie in bed and pray in the spirit until seven-thirty. You can lie prostrate on the floor and worship the Lord without having to answer to anyone. This time in your life is for you to charge up the battery cells. It's time to pamper-time to take luxurious baths in milk and honey. You can lie there in the bath , praising and worshiping the Lord for as long as you want.

Before you ask the Lord for another man, take care of Him. If you are not ministering to His needs, and yet you are always before Him asking Him to send you one of His princes to minister to, your prayers are not being heard because you are not being faithful to Him. When you become faithful in your singleness, then you will be better prepared to be faithful with a husband.

If you disregard the perfect husband, Jesus, you will certainly disregard the rest of us. The Lord wants you to come home at the end of a day and say, "Lord, I went through so much today. I am so glad You're here. I just couldn't wait to get alone and worship You and praise You and magnify You. Tonight is our night. I'm not so busy that I don't have time for You." If you don't have time for God, you don't have time for a husband.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be married. Simply take care of the Lord while you're waiting. Minister to Him. Let Him heal you and loose you, and worship Him. Single women ought to be the most consecrated women in the church. You are the ones whose shadows ought to fall on people and they be healed. You are in a position and posture of prayer. The Lord has become your necessary food. While some married women are dependent on their husbands, single women learn to be dependent on the Lord. God told Joel, "...and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit" (Joel 2:29). There is a special relationship between God and the single believer. God has a special anointing for the woman who is free to seek Him. Her prayer life should explode in miracles!

-T.D. Jakes Woman Thou Art Loosed! Bible

I pray this word touches your heart & spirit!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/9/12

Scripture: Ephesians 2:22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me that I’m a continuous work in progress. Although I’m not where I want to be in many areas of my life, I’m not where I used to be!

We “are being built” to become better for God, to be better examples of His spirit here on earth. As a friend reminded me the other day, “As long as we have breath in our bodies, there’s still time.” There’s still time for us to grow, to learn, & to become the dwellings in which God’s spirit lives.

Utilize this time wisely; God is working on you!

Quote: “Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.” -Denis Waitley

Daily Scriptures 7/5/12

Scripture: Proverbs 14:6 The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning. (NIV)

Nugget: There are some people, who no matter what we try to teach them & instill in them, they are not willing to learn & to grow. Most times, these are the people who can make us frustrated by their actions & words. Time after time, we listen to their problems, attempt to advise them, & they continue to end up in the same situations day after day, year after year.

This is why it’s so important for us to continue to learn & to grow. God gives us the power of discernment, allowing us to learn more & to do more. We shouldn’t be in the same situations that we’re dealing with currently next year. We should seek to do better, learning more.

Are you seeking knowledge & growth?? Or are you at a standstill? It’s time for a self-check.

Quote: “Discernment is the ability to grasp, comprehend, and evaluate clearly. It means we can see the true nature of things; it allows us to distinguish between what is real and what is imitation.” -From

Running Update

Today I completed another 5K run! I beat my old time by a lot; I’m so proud. I’m definitely continuing to prepare for the half-marathon next year. I can’t believe my progress, but I’m happy for sure! Yay!

I’m learning through this preparation that we must continue to challenge ourselves to grow in many areas of our lives; I don’t think that there should be a time where we aren’t looking to better ourselves & work to make ourselves into better people. Growth is a necessity in life. God continues to prepare us & to work within us to make us into the people that He wants us to be.

Never did I think I would take up running (I’m more into aerobics, light weight lifting, Zumba, the elliptical machine, etc.), so running was outside of my element---but I’m doing well in it & enjoying the journey & challenges it presents! Sometimes it’s good for us to think outside-of-the-boxes that we put ourselves in. You never know what you can do unless you try.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/2/12

Scripture: Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. (NIV)

Nugget: Many times, when we’re stressing or going through things, we find it difficult to rest & to sleep. It’s difficult to clear our minds from all the thoughts & stressors that seem to overcome us.

In reading this scripture, I’m reminded of God’s power & how we must turn everything over to Him---even our own thoughts. When your thoughts, actions, & stressors seem as if they are going to consume you, even putting a good night’s sleep in jeopardy, pray & seek God’s power. He is our refuge of safety & peace.

Quote: “There may be those on earth who dress better or eat better, but those who enjoy the peace of God sleep better.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 6/25/12

Scriptures: Jeremiah 23:23-24 23“Am I only a God nearby,” declares the LORD, “and not a God far away? 24Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD. (NIV)

Nugget: There are times when we go through so many things, that we feel that God is not near us or that He cannot hear us. There are other times, that we’ve done so many things & feel that we can hide the things we’ve done; sometimes, we attempt to block these things out or even hide them from God.

In a recent conversation with a dear friend, we were discussing just how much God loves us---not matter what, He loves us. God is not so far away that we can’t reach out to Him; He hasn’t moved, He hasn’t gone anywhere, & He knows our every move.

There are no secrets or secret places with God---He’s ever present. If you focus on nothing else today, remember that God loves you.

Quote: “Even while confined to this earth, you can be confident that your Father is watching over you. The devil took away Job's purse and left him temporarily destitute, but Job had a God in heaven who replenished his account. As a saint, you have some collateral: your stock of faith, and your deed of inheritance as a citizen of heaven. These are great security both now and for the future. Satan knows it, and will do his best to snatch them away from you. But no matter how hard he tries...he cannot annul your faith, make void your relationship with God, or dry up the spring of your comfort though he may dam up the stream for awhile.” -William Gurnall

For My Singletons, Pt. 18

Most times, as Singletons, we have a list of the qualities we seek in our future mates. The lists can range anywhere from tall, dark, & handsome to having good credit & more. The funny thing is, lately, I’ve been thinking on those who say they want certain qualities in their mates, but in turn, do they possess the qualities themselves? And on the other hand, there are some people who want a mate who do not know what they want. They just want “somebody to be there.” It’s an interesting predicament for sure.

There’s a Lyfe Jennings song called “Statistics”; one of the verses in the song states, “Don’t be a nickel out there looking for a dime.” This basically means, “Are you looking for the qualities in someone that you don’t have in yourself?” Are you putting requirements on someone that you don’t have yourself? For instance, are you looking for someone with good credit, but your credit isn’t where it need to be? Are you seeking someone who’s physically fit, but need improvement in this area yourself?

Regarding the list of qualities that you’re seeking in someone, have you reviewed your list lately? Are updates needed? There may be things you need to compromise on. Please note, I’m not stating to settle, but compromise. You may be seeking someone who’s 6 feet tall, but God has someone who’s 5 feet 9 inches tall. You may want a doctor, but God has a manager in store for you.

Relationships definitely aren’t easy, & I’m not one who will take on the attitude of having on rose-colored glasses when God brings my mate to me, but I want to make sure that I’m in preparation for this person. I want to be the best person I can be for him; because I want him to find his future wife in me, just as I’m seeking my future husband in him.

Complete a self-examination, re-evaluate your list of qualities. Seek God in all things regarding your future mate & be specific about what you’re seeking. We are in preparation, just as our future mates are.

Until next time.

Praise Song: "Time to Believe"

This week's Praise Song is Forever Jones' "Time to Believe". This song contains powerful, yet simple, words regarding believing in God & all that He's promised. Do you believe Him for what you're praying for? Is your faith in tact? Do you have the patience of Job to allow God to bring to pass what He's promised?? Just believe; have faith! God can do & will do all things!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/21/12

Scripture: James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (NKJV)

Nugget: Daily, we’re in the battle of our lives. We may not realize this, but it’s very true. The devil is always on the prowl, looking for ways to get to our hearts, minds, & souls. The wonderful thing is----God is always on His job too!

Don’t give room to the devil; He comes in many forms---the co-worker who “gets on your nerves”, the child who doesn’t want to obey, the tough boss who’s critical, those negative thoughts that sometimes just “pop into your mind”, & the list goes on & on.

One thing I always say is, “Don’t give room to the devil; if you give an inch, he’ll take more.” (Lisi P.)  Stay focused---submit all things & all people to God. The devil will surely flee.

Quote: “I often laugh at Satan, and there is nothing that makes him so angry as when I attack him to his face, and tell him that through God I am more than a match for him.” -Martin Luther

Daily Scriptures 6/20/12

Scripture: Job 12:13 To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. (NIV)

Nugget: There are many things I’ve tried to do & have tried to understand in my own might; at these times, my focus was on everything & everyone but God. I can say, during some of these times, I’ve sought counsel in the wrong people. It’s funny how we can turn to everyone but God in many circumstances in our lives.

God is all powerful & all knowing; there’s nothing we cannot go to Him for. Let us remember where our strength & understanding are--no one can handle our circumstances better than our Father.

Quote: “Every uplifting of the heart is a looking up to The Father.” -George MacDonald

Daily Scriptures 6/18/12

Scriptures: Psalm 37:5-6 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. (NIV)

Nugget: God is a good God! He really doesn’t ask too much of us: trust Him, love Jesus, give tithings, follow Him, adhere to His word, & to love others just to name a few. In doing these things, we are demonstrating our love for Him as well as showing His continuous presence in our lives.

The things that God rewards us with far exceed anything that He could ask of us. Commit yourself to God & trust Him---His reward to you is endless.

Quote: “God rewards those who seek Him. Not those who seek doctrine of religion or systems or creeds. Many settle for these lesser passions, but the reward goes to those who settle for nothing less than Jesus himself. And what is the reward? What awaits those who seek Jesus? Nothing short of the heart of Jesus.” -Max Lucado

Time for Change

I'm one of those people who feels that change can be difficult at times. I mean, most of us view the idea of change as scary & against the normalcy of our every day lives. However, in recent years, months, & days (yes, this is an ongoing process), I've come to realize that change can be good.

Not that I'm against the routine of life that I've established; I just feel that the time has come to make adjustments in various areas of my life. Just think about it, if we didn't experience change, there would still be children riding bikes with training wheels attached, right? Could you imagine still being on the bike you had when you were younger, rather than advancing to the "big bike" you later grew into?? LOL

This post is a reminder to not go against God & the change that He's trying to make happen in your life. Allow His will & work to be done. There's so much more for us to grow into; we just have to step back & allow God to do what He intends for us. Our part---follow Him without reservation.

What change are you resisting? What are you blocking from happening in your life due to fear? Where are you not allowing God to step in?

It's time for change---the change that God is planning.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/14/12

Scripture: Proverbs 30:32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth. (NKJV)

Nugget: We’ve all had the instances where we’ve been prideful and/or exalted ourselves. At times, this included “putting our foot in our mouths”---as the saying goes. There have also been instances where people have used their words to devise evil. In either case, we must learn the skill of keeping our mouths shut; there are definitely times when things should be said, but there are also times when our prideful, or even deceitful, words can get us into trouble.

There’s power in words & the intent behind them; we must weigh our words heavily & use them wisely.

Quote: “Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.” -Pearl Strachan

Daily Scriptures 6/13/12

Scriptures: Luke 9:59&62 59He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 62But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” (NLT)

Nugget: Following Jesus---how difficult is this for some of us to do? Jesus asked the man in this scripture to follow Him, but the man wanted to do something else first (in the scripture following this one, the other man mentioned wanted to do something else first as well). How many times have we done the same? I remember before giving my life to the Lord, I wanted to “get right”. Whatever “right” was, I could never obtain it without Him in my life!

Let’s examine our walk with the Lord; are we completing following Him? Have we truly let certain things & people go---giving ourselves to Him? We cannot follow Him & look back at the same time. We should be following Him & God; we shouldn’t be straddling the fence.

Quote: “Christ is not valued at all, unless He is valued above all.” -Augustine

Daily Scriptures 6/12/12

Scriptures: Psalm 22:9-10 9Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. 10From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God. (NIV)

Nugget: I once had a co-worker tell me, “God has His hands on some people from the womb, and you’re one of them.” Little at the time did I know of today’s scriptures. God is truly amazing! He knew us before our parents knew us, before we were even a thought to them!

In saying this, God’s hands were on us before we were even born; His plans for us began way before we can imagine. These scriptures tell us that He made us to trust in Him; in His eyes & through His love, we were Christians before we were in earthly existence!

Our God is so magnificent that He left no stone unturned---so if He knew to instill all of this in us before we came to be, then He truly can handle all things now. God made us to “trust in Him”. Let’s do this---without reservation.

Quote: “To trust Him means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice. Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him. But trying in a new way, a less worried way.” -C.S. Lewis
