Praise Song: "God Made Me"

This week’s Praise Song is “God Made Me” by the Mississippi Mass Choir. What a great reminder of the strength we have in God---knowing that He made us exactly as we are to be! He makes no mistakes; know the power you have in Him. Don’t give room to doubt, fear, etc.

Know WHO you are & WHOSE you are!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/28/12

Scriptures: I Kings 10:6-7 6She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. 7But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. (NIV)

Nugget: The queen of Sheba came to visit King Solomon & his kingdom; upon her arrival, she couldn’t believe that she was actually seeing everything she heard about Solomon & his kingdom. Even more so, she saw more than she heard about!

This is how it is with us, at times, as well. There are people who do not believe all that they hear regarding what God has done for you; these same people must see it with their own eyes. But we know that God is in the blessing business; many don’t understand how He can bless us (most times, in spite of ourselves)!

We must keep praising our Lord as He blesses us; when praises go up, blessings come down. There are definitely many who want to witness this!

Quote: “Have faith, knowing tomorrow will hold the blessings of God.” -Robert Schuller, Jr.

Running and Running Some More…..

Photo from:
I’ve always considered myself one who loves to workout, go to the gym, & in the past year, one who loves Zumba! However, I’m in the process of challenging myself in the areas of my workouts by preparing for a half-marathon next year. This is truly a challenge because I’ve never considered myself much of a runner :) But I’m up for the challenge.

Last weekend, my friend & I completed our first 5K run! I was so excited for the event & felt even better once we accomplished the goal of completing the race. This gave us the chance to see where we are & where we need to be by the time of the half-marathon next year. Needless to say, we have a way to go, but I feel that we’re starting off at a good pace.

I challenge you to do something you haven’t done before; do something that will take you to the next level personally. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t have “the time”? Is there something you’ve been putting off until “tomorrow, next year, or next month”? What if tomorrow never comes? What excuses are you (or have you been making) in order not to just get started. Sometimes, the hardest part is to start!!

My friend & are setting out to complete the half-marathon, but not starting at the half-marathon. There are various 5Ks, walks, & other runs throughout our community in which we will start with in order to prepare for it. We set training schedules to stick to as well. What can you do to prepare for your challenge (or challenges)? Again, I’m not much of a runner, but I’m excited about what we are doing!

I look forward to what’s ahead (& will post blogs on our progress from time-to-time). I’m definitely going to use this year as a year of preparation, both physically & mentally. I’m grateful for a friend who wants to achieve this goal as well & am grateful for my friends & family who have provided many encouraging words when hearing of our decision to complete the half-marathon. The words are much needed & right on time.

Now it's your turn.....get started.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/21/12

Scriptures: I Kings 3:7, 9-12 7“Now, O LORD my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. 9Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” 10The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. 11So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies— 12I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! (NLT)

Nugget: King Solomon knew he needed wisdom in order to rule over God’s kingdom; the thing is, Solomon knew this & knew to ask God for this wisdom. God was pleased that Solomon came to Him & asked for the wisdom needed to handle everything that was to come; God granted Solomon this wisdom & more to move forward.

We must do the same; there may be many things you do not understand, know, or have any idea about, but are you seeking God & asking for the wisdom that only He can give?  God grants prayers & goes above & beyond (just look at His response to Solomon); ask God for the wisdom you seek & an understanding heart to receive all that He has in store for you.

Quote: “Start with God - the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.” -King Solomon

Daily Scriptures 2/20/12

Scriptures: I Kings 1:5-6 5About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, “I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him. 6Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome. (NLT)

Nugget: In King David’s old age, his son, Adonijah, was declaring himself king & taking action to make himself king. David didn’t know everything that was going on & definitely wasn’t disciplining Adonijah at any time.

These scriptures make me think about some parents how do not discipline their children; instructing them on how to act, what to say, etc.; basically, instilling values & beliefs in them that will allow them to grow up into productive adults.

I’m not referring to spankings/etc., but words of discipline, instructions for life, knowing a child’s role, etc. Also, words that let the children know about God. For now-a-days, many children are telling the parents what to do; it’s as if some parents have gotten completely away from disciplining all together.

It’s time to instruct children; implant seeds in them in order for them to carry on into adulthood. Don’t be like David, never asking the right questions in order to guide the children. Discipline is needed; God’s word & direction are necessary.

Quote: “Training moments occur when both parents and children do their jobs. The parent's job is to make the rule. The child's job is to break the rule. The parent then corrects and disciplines. The child breaks the rule again, and the parent manages the consequences and empathy that then turn the rule into reality and internal structure for the child.” -Henry Cloud

RIP Whitney Houston

Last week, we lost another great in the entertainment industry, Ms. Whitney Houston. I don’t think it really hit me until I watched Oprah’s re-airing of her interview from 2009 with Whitney this past Thursday evening. While watching the show, many emotions came about, one of them being the feeling of wanting Whitney to achieve all that she set out to do, both personally & professionally. Sadly, as I watched the show, I realized, she wouldn’t get the chance. This is when the tears began.

Today, I like many others, watched her home-going on television. It was an amazing thing to see because everything still felt unreal. Such a beautiful, talented individual---just gone. But I’m reminded, God truly knows His plans. I pray that Whitney has finally found the peace she sought.

She was definitely loved by many; I just wish she saw herself the way we saw her. I mean, one of my first tapes (yes, I said “tapes”) was a Whitney Houston tape. My parents, siblings, & I would watch Whitney on TV! My siblings & I grew up listening to her because of this; everyone wanted to “Dance With Somebody”.  What an impact she's made on so many (& continues to make)!

May God rest her soul as our prayers go up for her family, friends, & fellow fans. Ms. Houston, you’ll truly be missed, but your music & those you touched will live on.

Enjoy life, Everyone.  It's truly a precious gift from God.

Until next time.

This week's Praise Song is James Huey's "When I Think About the Lord".  This song has truly been on my heart.  I've been reflecting on my life and all that the Lord has done for me.  I couldn't & wouldn't be here without Him.  He's too good to me.  Praise Him!!!  Thanking Him for His mercy, grace, & unconditional love!!

Until next time.

I recently heard a quote from Joel Osteen stating, “Beauty is being who God made you to be, with confidence.” The quote spoke volumes. Many of us don’t know how to just be who God made us to be & accept that God knew what He was doing when creating each & every one of us.

Sometimes we focus on others around us; wanting to be more like “him or her”; wishing we had his or her “hair, look, weight, body type, life, etc.” It’s amazing that we can get so caught up in comparisons, while not focusing on the individual right in front of us---ourselves.

At the same time, there are many people who wish that they were “us”. Wishing for our “hair, look, weight, body type, life, etc.” What some people would give to be “you”, you may find astonishing. It’s truly why we have to be happy & love ourselves & everything about ourselves. From the mole on the face, to the stretch marks from giving birth, to the kinky or straight hair we have, & so on. God makes no mistakes.

I’m one to admit, it’s an ongoing challenge to appreciate who I am, as we all have things we want to change. However, the challenge is one that doesn’t have to exist as it’s one that most of us create on our own. There’s no reason not to appreciate, love, & accept who God made. We are His masterpieces & should act as such!!!

Be who God made you to be----with ALL the confidence possible. Hold your head up, look at yourself in the mirror each day & remind yourself of who God made!! “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” -Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

I leave you with Christina Aguilera’s song, “Beautiful”:

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/10/12

Scripture: Psalm 70:5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay. (NIV)

Nugget: How many times have we heard the saying, “You have not because you ask not”? In so many instances, all we have to do is ask & we shall receive; in others, we may ask, but there may be a time in between receiving the request. Either way, the first step was to ask.

In many cases, it’s the same way with God. We must ask, pray, & let our requests be made to Him. There will be times when our prayers are answered in no time & other times where there will be a delay. However, God is an on time God!

The psalmist in this scripture he had a need & he knew God was his helper & deliverer; do you know God is yours as well?

Daily Scriptures 2/7/12

Scripture: Psalm 97:10 You who love the LORD, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. (NLT)

Nugget: God definitely knows the difference between those who are wicked & those who love Him. Sometimes, we may feel that the wicked are getting ahead, while daily, we work to be better people, living as God has called us to do.

But do not fret, God is always there to protect us & show us the way. His hands are in everything we do; this includes guiding us around those who are against us. God always has everything under control; don’t give your power or thoughts to anyone else!

Daily Scriptures 2/6/12

Scriptures: II Samuel 6:14&16 14And David danced before the LORD with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. 16But as the Ark of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she was filled with contempt for him. (NLT)

Nugget: David celebrated & danced before the Lord, regardless of what people said or thought about him; he danced regardless of his clothing & environment. David danced, shouted, & praised the Lord for all that He had done. Even David’s wife, Michal, had complaints about David’s praise, but no matter what, David danced anyways!

How do you praise God, both when people are around & when they aren’t? When they offer up criticisms, how do you praise God? Do you praise Him anyhow? Do you stop your praise?

Give no one power over your praise! Dance anyhow!! Our God is worth all the praise. If someone thinks or acts otherwise, ignore them & dance like David danced!! Praise like he praised! Our God definitely deserves to be praised!

Quote: "The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance." -C.S. Lewis

Praise Song: "When the Spirit of the Lord"

This week's Praise Song is Fred Hammond's, "When the Spirit of the Lord" (I Will Dance Like David Danced).  We must learn to dance like David danced! No matter what is going on in our lives----praise God through it!  God is worth every praise, every dance, every shout!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/2/12

Scripture: I Peter 1:13 So prepare your minds for service and have self-control. All your hope should be for the gift of grace that will be yours when Jesus Christ is shown to you. (NCV)

Nugget: Focus: we definitely have to work daily to do this. So many things occur & can blind us to what God is trying to get us to see. Being prepared and having self-control are what we should strive for.

Our hope should be in Jesus & the gift of grace that He gives us. There’s nothing that should get in the way of this. Take time today to focus on the Lord; don’t give so much power to your problems, obstacles, challenges, etc. The grace of the Lord is sufficient for all things.

Quote: “Before me, even as behind, God is, and all is well.” -John Greenleaf Whittier

Daily Scriptures 2/1/12

Scripture: Proverbs 5:21 For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths. (NIV)

Nugget: God knows everything; He planned out our lives before we were even thoughts to our parents. He outlined our lives before conception & His plans for us continue to come to pass.

There is nothing that we go through or experience that isn’t a part of God’s plan. True enough, we may get off track, but God’s plan always prevails. His plans are predestined. Our ways are always in God’s view---He works daily to examine what we do & where we are going.

This is why it’s so important for us to stay focused, knowing that we are never alone. No matter how things may seem, God’s view is limitless, He continues to examine our paths, & allows us to always walk with Him.

Quote: “God has wisely kept us in the dark concerning future events and reserved for Himself the knowledge of them, that He may train us up in a dependence upon Himself and a continued readiness for every event.” -Matthew Henry
