Merry Christmas!!

Today, I was out-and-about running a few remaining errands before the stores closed tomorrow for Christmas. There definitely was a lot going on in the stores, which is to be expected; however, at some points, it felt like Black Friday all over again! LOL. But my intent about being out didn’t have to do with Christmas shopping, rather than running regular errands that happened to fall on today.

In the midst of all of this, I began to take in my surroundings & what people were saying. Many conversations & actions focused on last minute gifts that were needed. But somewhere in it all, I began to wonder if people overlooked the real meaning of Christmas---the birth of our Lord & Savior, Jesus. Do we get so caught up on the shopping, that the importance of Christmas is forgotten? Do we thank God for the real gift---our salvation because of Christ? We have the best gift that we can appreciate each & every day we’re alive.

Take time to reflect on Christmas, it’s meaning, & how much God loves us. He gave His only Son for our sins. Take time with loved ones & enjoy every moment, as life is fleeting. Praise more, smile more, appreciate more, & live more. Jesus died for us to live life & to live it more abundantly; He’s the true gift of CHRISTmas.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

Wishing you & your family a Merry Christmas!!!  May God bless you always.

Until next time.

Invest In You!!

For the past few months or so, I’ve learned the importance of investing in me. It’s still a work in process, but I’m getting there. I’ve had close friends & family remind me how important it is to take the time for myself, to take time away with God, & to meditate on His will & way for my life.

I’m one of those people who takes time for other people, whether it’s to listen or to lend a helping hand, my friends & family will definitely describe me as one who’s dependable & there no matter what. However, sometimes, it’s so easy for us to get caught up in other people & their goings-on, that we can forget the importance of us!

There’s definitely nothing wrong with being there for others, but are we there for the #1 individual in our lives---ourselves? As one of my friends tells me, “Lisi, even on the airplane, in the event of an emergency, they ask you to put on your own mask first before helping someone else.” This is so very true!! How can we help someone else, if we ourselves are not in the place where we’ve helped ourselves first?

Take time to begin with you! Work on yourself, take time with God, & grow & invest in YOU!! In all that is going on, don’t forget how important you are.

What’s the one thing you can do today to begin to do this? Check out this awesome word from Joyce Meyer entitled “You Can Enjoy Your Life – Every Day!” (by clicking on the title)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 12/2/13

Scripture: Proverbs 28:25 The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the LORD will prosper. (NIV)

Nugget: Greed, it’s a characteristic that can bring out a side of people that we couldn’t imagine. Most times, it does result in conflict & strife. Greed can destroy relationships & result in issues we’d least expect.

Greed shouldn’t be the thing that drives us to wanting more or better; we should seek God & trust Him in all that He has in store for us. What one receives from God is lasting; anything else is fleeting.

If greed is a driving force for you, this should be re-examined. Allow God to guide you in all things---trust Him.

Quote: “Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.” -Erich Fromm

For this past week, I’ve been taking the time to regroup during the time I’ve had off from work. It’s truly been a relating & much needed time to myself; additionally, time with friends. I’ve had the time to reflect on what & who’s important, time to remember not to take things so seriously, time to reflect on future goals & dreams, & time to reflect on how short life truly is. I can honestly say that during this time, I didn’t spend much time in God’s word, but I did work on being in His presence, trying to be still, trying to pray more/better, & knowing that in this stillness He’s here.

In spite of all of this, today I found myself getting anxious about the upcoming week & the things I’ll have to face. But in the midst of this, I remembered that there’s peace that can only come from God & His word. As I’ve said before, life is precious & today’s has its own worries (& seeing/facing tomorrow is not necessarily guaranteed). Matthew 6:34 (NIV) says: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Today is truly enough for today!

Time with God & time with self are very important. They are a must in our lives & should be taken no matter what is going on with us & around us. What a great dose of medicine & reality I received for myself for this past week.

May you take the time you need to regroup & to refocus as well. Don’t underestimate the importance of these actions & what they mean for you & your relationships with God, yourself, & others.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 11/7/13

Scriptures: Psalm 18:17-18 17He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me. 18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we have so many things & people coming against us that we don’t know where to turn. We get weighed down by this & the challenges that life brings; sometimes, so blinded that we lose focus. Believe me, I know, & we’re all only human!

Despite of this, our God is stronger than the challenges we face, our thoughts, & our enemies. We have to refocus on Him & all that He can do. There’s so much power in Him & His word; we must believe in Him & activate our faith rather than acting in fear or being weighed down by our circumstances.

God is a strong God! He is our continued support & through Him, we can overcome anything. Rather than being overwhelmed (which is what I’ve been lately), be an overcomer!

Quote: “I want to encourage you by letting you know that there’s hope for you and your situation whatever you are dealing with. God is intimately involved with every detail of your future and His desire is for you to be an overcomer.” -Sue Augustine

Daily Scriptures 11/6/13

Scripture: Psalm 3:4 I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah (NKJV)

Nugget: Overwhelmed---that’s definitely one of the words that describes how I’ve felt lately! Literally, there’s a lot going on in my life & in the lives of those around me. Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the challenges & forget to focus. I thank God for those He put around me, His Word, & prayer!

In the midst of the challenges & things we face, we mustn’t forget to call out to God; whether it be through quiet time with Him, prayer, praise, or simply saying, “Thank You”, in spite of what’s going on. God is always there.

In this psalm, David provides a great example of what to do in the midst of challenges, facing enemies, & troubles--cry out to God with your voice--He hears our cries & always answers.

Quote: “Many of us feel stress and get overwhelmed not because we're taking on too much, but because we're taking on too little of what really strengthens us.” -Marcus Buckingham

Daily Scriptures 11/4/13

Scriptures: Psalm 24:4-5 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5He shall receive blessing from the LORD, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we need to do a self-check regarding our thoughts, actions, & character. We’re seeking so much from God, but are we in the right place? What do I mean by the right place? Are we reading the Word, taking quiet time to spend with God, keeping a pure heart & mind (in our actions & words as well)? What are we doing to show ourselves approved for the blessings we seek from Him?

I admit, sometimes, it’s as if I’m always asking God for something; there’s nothing wrong with asking, but am I also doing what it takes to grow in Him---sometimes what we’re seeking is tied to our faith & obedience in Him.

Thanking God for another day & chance to get it right! Take time today to thank God, spend time with Him, get into His Word, & show yourself approved!

Quote: “Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person's seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.” -Elisabeth Elliot

Daily Scriptures 10/23/13

Scripture: Psalm 45:1 My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. (NKJV)

Nugget: This psalm is a song of love; it also discusses the characteristics of a royal daughter of the King. One of the things that stood out for me regarding this verse is a “good theme”. How the writer’s heart was overflowing with this; it made me examine my thoughts & actions a bit.

Are my heart, mind, & soul overflowing with a good theme? How are these lining up with being a daughter of the King? Would my tongue speak songs of praise, even in the midst of challenges? I’ve had the chance recently to do some regrouping; this has helped a lot.

I’ve definitely faced some challenges & struggles recently, but I want to make sure I get back in line with God & have the “good theme” reappear in my life. No matter what you’re facing, seek God & that “good theme” He’s placed in you & around you. It’s important not to lose sight of this during times of difficulty.

Quote: “There is no instinct like that of the heart.” -Lord Byron

Happy Birthday To Me!!!

Happy Birthday to me! Thanking God for the blessing of not only another day, but another year. I’m praying that this next year be a great one for me! I’m looking forward to great things from my Father upstairs.

One of my goals this new year is to start a list of things I’ve been “wanting to do” & have been putting off doing (for some reason or another). Some of these items can be “simple” & some a little more than simple, but my goal is to complete the items on the list by my next birthday. I hope to share these experiences with you via my blog!

This is a milestone birthday for me & I feel that change is on the way. This will be a time of regrouping & refocusing for me. There are many things that I need to complete, collectively on a personal, professional, & most importantly, a spiritual, basis.

Thank you all for being a part of my journey & for taking the time to follow my blog, leave comments, & stop by! I hope to be back on the Daily Scriptures soon.

I'm truly blessed by my friends, family, & everything God has allowed to happen in my life.  Without Him, where would I be?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 10/2/13

Scripture: Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. (NKJV)

Nugget: I always say, “Every day I learn something new.” Every day is definitely an opportunity to do so, but do we utilize the opportunities available to us to do just that---accept instruction & increase in learning?

This scripture mentions giving instruction to a wise man; a person who’s willing to grow & to think outside-of-the-box. This is someone who’s open-minded, realizing he/she doesn’t know it all, but yet has the desire to grow beyond his/her current understanding.

Allow God to use your current situation/circumstance, as well as those around you, to show you the something new you didn’t know before; allow Him to enhance skills you’ve already developed to another level. Grow & increase in learning.

Daily Scriptures 10/1/13

Scriptures: Isaiah 49:1&5 1Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name. 5And now the LORD says— he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength (NIV)

Nugget: Sometimes I think we take for granted, or overlook, God’s hand in our lives; meaning, do we think back to how God has had his hands on us from the beginning? Way before we were a thought to our parents, we were a thought to God. Before we were born, God already knew what He had in store for us. If God knew what He was going to do back then, then He definitely knows His plans for us today.

God formed us to be His servants, a representation of Him, & we are His children; God will not let us down. God is our strength & He has called us according to His purpose. Don’t take for granted who God has formed you to be (& to become); take solace in Him, knowing the strength we have in Him.

Quote: “The purpose of our life is to pursue God. It is what we were created to do. God wants us to seek and long passionately in His presence. His presence is real and tangible. It will change our lives completely.” -From http://www.intercessorsarise.org/Intercessors_Arise/Pursuing_Gods_Presence.html

Daily Scriptures 9/30/13

Scripture: Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. (NIV)

Nugget: Pride is the characteristic that can make us stand up for what we believe (ex: our country, our school, our military, etc.). But pride can also be the characteristic that represents a character flaw or a down fall. Most times, the most prideful individual is one who does not listen, especially to wisdom or direction from others. It’s the person who’s “hard to get through to”.

Of course there are times when we must display pride, but don’t let these be the times in which humility disappears & we lose the chance at gaining wisdom, or even displaying wisdom.

These characteristics are ones that we’ll need to balance accordingly.

Quote: “A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” -C.S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 9/25/13

Scriptures: Isaiah 32:16-17 16The LORD’s justice will dwell in the desert, his righteousness live in the fertile field. 17The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. (NIV)

Nugget: Peace is something I’ve been praying about lately (well more than lately!). I’ve been trying to take the time to reflect & regroup, knowing that God is the center of peace. In God, there’s no confusion & He wants His children to lead peaceful & fulfilling lives.

Even in our toughest & most challenging times, God is there. The peace that can only come from Him is what we need to seek. God wants us to walk, live, & be in peace. Why would we allow anything or anyone to take this peace away?

My mom would always say, “A peace of mind goes a long way.” How these words ring true now! In the peace of God, we find quietness, confidence, & so much more, even when things can be hectic around us.

Allow God to come into the places & situations you haven’t given over to Him completely; this is the only way to have true peace. The peace with Him & through Him is never ending!

Daily Scriptures 9/24/13

Scripture: Isaiah 32:18 My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places (NKJV)

Nugget: A good friend pointed out this scripture to me; it’s a great reminder to me about having peace at home. Home should be the one place that we all go to in order to have peace, rest, & calmness. It’s our habitation that should be a reflection of us & more importantly, a reflection of God & His blessings to us.

God says, “My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation.” Do these words describe your home? Or are you bringing the workday home? Carrying the stressors of those around you with you? Your own stressors? If so, what can you do to make your home the “quiet resting place” that God intends for it to be?

Don’t underestimate the importance of having the peaceful place to come home to. I am guilty of bringing the workday/etc. home, but I’m going to do my best from now on to leave work at work, leave other stressors where they are, decorate my surroundings, & focus on making my home the peaceful dwelling that God intends for it to be.

Won’t you do the same?

Quote: “Peace---that was the other name for home.” -Kathleen Norris

Daily Scriptures 9/23/13

Scriptures: Romans 5:3-5 3And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (NKJV)

Nugget: These scriptures speak to me & my current situations; they’ve been ones that I’ve said to myself as I go through challenging times. I’m learning that challenges are what God uses to develop something in us; by testing us, we’re growing in our walk with Him, faith, & definitely within ourselves.

Tribulation produces perseverance (we learn about being steadfast in God & in ourselves); we build character (we develop something in ourselves that we didn’t know we had, further, our character grows to new levels from where they currently are); our hope grows (our hope & faith in God are stronger, this hope that only God can provide does not disappoint us, but shows his unyielding love for us).

In your struggles, challenges, & tough times, God is there. Don’t lose sight of the good that can come out of these instances, because what we’re going through isn’t in vain. It’s to build something that can only come from these situations. The best part is we aren’t alone through any of it! God is always there.

Don’t give up; there’s a blessing in the midst of every storm.

Quote: “While you are going through your trial, you can recall your past victories and count the blessings that you do have with a sure hope of greater ones to allow if you are faithful.” -Ezra Taft Benson

Faith Tested

Have you ever had so much going on that you wondered what God was up to? You’ve prayed your prayers, read your Bible, & even have your favorite Scriptures memorized to help you along the way, but still you wonder what is going on? Well, needless to say, that’s how I’ve felt lately.

For certain, a lot is happening. I feel that last year’s challenging year is carrying over into 2013 far too long. However, my heart knows that God is working on something big for me. Part of that something is knowing in the midst of these tests & trials, there is a TESTIMONY to come. But does it take all of this to get there? LOL. Sometimes, it just may.

I’ve had people ask me “How are you doing?” in the past few months. I can tell you, it’s one of the hardest questions that I’ve had to answer in recent months. The true answer is one that’s hard to formulate, when there’s so much happening, but I’m so grateful for the true family & friends that God has placed in my life. I’ve learned about those who are by my side no matter what.

I’m learning more & more about the saying, “God doesn’t put more on you than what you can bear.” He does this to test us, to bring something out of us, to develop something in us, & to remind us that He’s in complete control. Most times, our faith isn’t where we truly believe it to be (it’s easier to trust God when things are going good). Also, maybe God wants to take us to the next level, but getting there means experiencing the things that are uncomfortable, challenging, & downright heartbreaking. BUT GOD is always there.

I’m praying for the shift to the next thing He has for me. In the meantime, I must experience these challenging times in order to get there. Continued strength & guidance from Him will get me there; also, having the right people around me who have my back no matter what. In the midst of it all, no matter what, I’m blessed & will remain so.

May we continue to encourage each other & pray for each other during our challenging times as we do during our triumphs.

1I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. -Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. -Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

2My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. -James 1:2-3 (NKJV)

Daily Scriptures 8/26/13

Scriptures: I John 2:15-17 15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (NKJV)

Nugget: Daily I’m reminded that life & what’s in it are temporary. Most days, we can easily start our day thinking that things & life can go on forever. When in reality, each moment, & all that God blesses us with, is temporary. This is why it’s so imperative for us to enjoy the time & life we have. Counting all blessings along the way.

Let us not get so caught up in the material things, dealings of the flesh, pride, & lust. If we truly examine ourselves & these things, we’ll realize that God wants our focus & love to be on Him; not the temporary things of the world. But love for Him, showing & demonstrating that we know our time here is but a precious gift, where all roads lead to Him.

Quote: “The fact that we were created to enjoy God and to worship Him forever is etched upon our souls.” -Jim Cymbala

Sometimes It Is Time

In various conversations with close friends I’ve found a theme: the need for change to occur in our lives. There have been too many things that we’ve put off doing or even situations that we’re in that need to change. As time continues to pass on, we’re beginning to realize the preciousness of time & the fragility of life. Both of these realizations are pressed upon us as life continues on, but some things have taken a backburner to the daily going-ons of life.

I began to ponder on the things that are no longer important, the things & people that are, & the people who have taken a different role in my life. Sometimes this role consists of no role at all (letting go & moving on)

What happens when change is needed? We need to clean house, get rid of some things, lighten our loads, & so much more. There are so many things & people that we continue to carry with us that don’t need to go with us. What is God telling us to do & who is He telling us to hold on to?

Is your closet cluttered?
An analogy that came to my mind was one regarding cleaning out the closet & getting rid of clothing that no longer fit or even clothing that may fit that we no longer want to wear (just because something fits doesn’t mean it’s right for you at this time in your life). For instance, why wear that outfit you wore at 23 at 33? You may no longer go to the club & that “club outfit” should no longer be a part of your wardrobe.

So why do we continue to hold on to the things, people, thoughts, & such that no longer fit into our lives? Why don’t we clean out our lives similar to how we clean out our closets? There are things that don’t fit anymore, because remember as time goes on we should be changing & growing.

• Sometimes it is time to let go; it is time to move on.
• Sometimes it is time to re-examine ourselves to see where we are & where we’re trying to go. Are we on the right track?
• Sometimes it is time for us to clean house, knowing it’s okay to let some people go & lighten our loads.
• Sometimes it is time for us to let go of our current situation & work to achieve the dreams that we’ve been putting off.
• Sometimes it is time to realize that changes occur to make us better.
• Sometimes it is time to clean out our closets of life.
• Sometimes it is time for us to realize that all of the above are okay to do!

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” -Ecclesiastes 3:1(NIV)

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/12/13

Scripture: Jeremiah 1:9 Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are some things that God will ask us to do that we may feel that we aren’t ready for. In this chapter, God was asking Jeremiah to go out & speak to His people. Jeremiah felt that he was too young to perform such a daunting task (in his eyes). But God let Jeremiah know that Jeremiah was being called by Him to perform the task. God would be with Jeremiah from beginning to end; allowing Jeremiah not to act in his own strength, but in the strength of God.

This is how it is with us & God at times. God will ask us to do things we feel we aren’t qualified for, aren’t educated enough to do, or things we feel that aren’t in our “time” to do. But God has other plans. If He’s telling us to do something, calling us out of our comfort zones, & more, God will always be there with us through it & He will give us the gifts, talents, & words to make things happen! Whatever God asks us to do will be completed with Him by our sides.

What is God calling you to do that you’re hesitating about?

"I Am"

A good friend shared this quote with me. It's right on time! May it encourage you as well!!

“I am unique. My journey has been filled with experiences that have built my resiliency, defined my character and made me a better woman.

I am ready to cash in on my greatness, my brilliance, my God-given possibilities and my prosperity.

I will turn my valleys into my mountaintops, my obstacles into my opportunities, my tests into my testimony.

I am a masterpiece of humility, gratitude, godliness and divinity. My beauty is real. My heart is good, and my strength has been confirmed.

I will show the world how to treat me—and it's my job to give the world the best example possible.

I have turned my crawl into a walk, my walk into a run, and I'm now turning my run into my soar.

I am unapologetic about my brilliance, untamed in my quest to discover me.

I am no longer asking for permission to be me. I'm giving notice!”

Daily Scriptures 8/8/13

Scripture: Psalm 24:8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. (NKJV)

Nugget: We spend so much time trying to fight the battles of life, challenges, broken spirits, & more on our own. These battles cannot be won in our own might, but only with God by our side. Just think about the things that we take on for ourselves & how much easier they are when we trust Him.

Every day has its own worries, challenges, & more, but with God we can do all things. If we remind ourselves of what God can do, trust in Him, & lean not onto our own understanding, we can get so much further than we ever expected. God can turn the challenges we face into words of praise & into testimonies of His goodness with blessings.

The Lord is strong when we are weak & mighty in every battle; give your challenges to Him.

Quotes: “Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven't half the strength you think they have.” -Norman Vincent Peale

“No matter how hard they try to keep you down, always remember that, with God you can overcome any obstacle that life throws at you. You just have to believe...” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 8/7/13

Scripture: Hebrews 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens (NKJV)

Nugget: Lately, I’ve had a lot of heavy things weighing on my heart. These things can definitely affect my daily routine & thoughts! I am learning to re-focus on God & all that He’s done & continues to do.

I feel that it’s so easy for us to let things & thoughts consume us; at these times (& at all times), it’s best to lean on God, His word, & promises. Today’s scripture reminds us that we have a High Priest who’s right there with God, our Lord, Jesus! He intercedes on our behalf as we face challenges, struggles, & obstacles. He’s there to offer praise with us as well.

When you get to the point where you feel that life & what it’s bringing to you is heavy or overwhelming, turn to God. Continue to stay uplifted in prayer, the power of His words, & the love we have through Jesus. Better yet, don’t wait until things get so overwhelming to do this---make it a daily habit.

Daily Scriptures 8/6/13

Scriptures: Proverbs 3:1-2 1My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; 2For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. (NKJV)

Nugget: In reading these scriptures, “length of days” & “peace” stood out for me. These stood out for me because they are connected to knowing God’s word & keeping them in my heart. We can go through so many things & experiences, but everything is connected to God & His word. What a reminder for me to set aside time with God each day to stay in His word.

Don’t let life & challenges beat you down; we have a source of strength that can get us through anything: God. We must take the time to develop our relationships with Him, while growing in Him & His word.

Let’s aim to obtain the “length of days” & “peace” that come from Him & Him alone.

Quote: “So long as we are occupied with any other object than God Himself, there will be neither rest for the heart nor peace for the mind. But when we receive all that enters our lives as from His hand, then, no matter what may be our circumstances or surroundings--whether in a hovel or prison-dungeon, or at a martyr's stake--we shall be enabled to say, "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places" (Ps. 16:6). But that is the language of faith, not of sight nor of sense.” -A.W. Pink

On a recent episode of Iyanla Vanzant’s show, Iyanla: Fix My Life, she interviewed Real Housewives of Atlanta former cast-member, Sheree Whitfield. The show focused on Sheree’s life & various aspects of it. One thing that stood out for me about Sheree’s interview was Iyanla’s statement regarding the incomplete aspects of Sheree’s life. Iyanla brought this up in order to point out how the incomplete elements of life can reflect on other areas of life as well. This was interesting to me because it allowed me to ponder on the things I hadn’t completed & why.

Why are there things that we don’t complete, but keep coming back to? Maybe there’s a dream or goal that you’ve set for yourself; although it hasn’t happened yet or you’ve procrastinated on it, you keep coming back to it? Why is this? For me, I began to focus not only on the incomplete aspects, but the “Why?” behind them. What is really keeping me from doing the things I really want to do? (Especially if these things are to promote God, allow personal growth, & to help others)

We can truly be the ones to get in our own way, or to put it another way, to get in the way of what God has for us. We can let our own doubt, lack of confidence, & our own self-induced roadblocks keep us from our God-given gifts & dreams. We have to get out of our own way!

I’m in the process of reading Joel Osteen’s I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life. Today’s reading stated, “You can still become everything God created you to be.” -Joel Osteen. It’s never too late for us to do this; however, what are we doing to become that man or that woman God has called us to be? Are we working on ourselves? Are we growing in Him? Are we living life & enjoying the journey? OR are we accumulating a growing list of “Incompletes”, allowing time to pass us by?

It’s time. Don’t wait to do what God has called you to do, especially when you’re able to begin doing this now. As long as we have breath in our bodies, we should be aiming to be who God has called us to be.

How can you begin today to complete the incompletes in your life?

Until next time.

God Believes In Us

A good friend of mine emails these very encouraging quotes on a daily basis. One day last week, she emailed the quote:

"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” - Mahatma Gandhi

Very powerful words, right? And what a reminder of the power of words & what we speak into our lives. We must speak life into ourselves, those around us, & into the dreams, etc. that we may have.

In response to this quote, a friend of mine wrote me back after I sent it to her. Her response was, “How great it is to know that God believes in us.” I was surprised by her response, as I didn’t initially view the quote this way, but as I began to ponder on it & the further meanings it could have, this became apparent.

Most times, we don’t think about how much God truly believes in us. We know & think about how much He loves us (He gave His son, Jesus, to die for our sins), but do we focus on how much God believes in us to?

He’s instilled gifts, talents, knowledge, & so much more into us; these various elements are to glorify Him. He loves us enough to equip us with so much to do on His behalf; so He has to believe in us in order for us to use these gifts. It’s amazing how God sees us, even when we don’t see ourselves this way. We have an amazing Father!

So in the midst of all my deep thoughts & prayers regarding how much God believes in me, further confirmation was received. My friend sent another quote (unbeknown to her my thoughts on the first quote). The next quote/thought was the following:

God is Cheering for You - Max Lucado

If your God is Mighty enough to ignite the sun, could it be that He is mighty enough to light your path?

God is for you. Not “may be,” not “has been,” not “was,” not “would be,” but “God is!” He is for you. Today! At this hour! At this minute! As you read this sentence. No need to wait in line or come back tomorrow. He is with you. He could not be closer than He is at this second. His loyalty won’t increase if you are better nor lessen if you are worse. He is for you.

God is for you. Turn to the sidelines; that’s God cheering your run. Look past the finish line; that’s God applauding your steps. Listen for Him in the bleachers shouting your name. Too tired to continue? He’ll carry you. Too discouraged to fight? He’s picking you up. God is for you. God is for you. Had He a calendar - your birthday would be circled. If He drove a car - your name would be on His bumper. If there’s a tree in heaven, He’s carved your name in the bark. We know He has a tattoo, and we know what it says. “I have written your name on my hand,” He declares…

My goodness! Not only does God believe in us, He’s cheering us on! He’s continuously in our corner, being our #1 cheerleader. He loves us just that much.

Be encouraged my friends; don’t let something or someone else tell you differently about how God feels about you. Do you believe in yourself & what He’s given you? Who He sees you to be & who you’re becoming? He loves you & believes in you. Enough said!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/23/13

Scripture: Psalm 135:5 For I know that the LORD is great, And our Lord is above all gods. (NKJV)

Nugget: God is God, period! There’s no one or nothing like our God. Sometimes, it’s so easy for us to get caught up in our day-to-day routine, & the busyness of life, that we need to take a few moments (or more!) & reflect on the goodness of God.

It’s so easy for us to say that “God is good!”, but do we do this out of routine, or out of reflection on how good He’s been to us? I’m learning more & more about breaking routine, slowing down, reflecting on life, & enjoying the journey. Yes, God is truly great & above all!

Quote: “God is good. God is great. We need to stop what we are doing. And thank Him each day. AMEN!” -Jennifer Vickers

Fear Doesn't Live Here

During my undergraduate college years, I was a part of this program to enhance my leadership skills. For some reason, recently, I began to reflect on my experiences in the program; it’s funny how God will bring some things back to us.

As part of this program, we took various classes regarding leadership, service, etc. At the end of one of the classes, we were to give a summary of what we’d learned during the term. I remember trying to figure out what I would discuss with my fellow classmates regarding this; I mean, what would I have used to summarize the term & my experience? One thing stood out for me, & this thing was: FEAR.

I brought up to my classmates how fear can be the thing that either hinders us or pushes us forward. It can propel us to step outside of our comfort zones or stay where we are. At the time, I was still growing in my relationship with the Lord, so I didn’t fully understand how lack of faith allowed the presence of fear to step in, but it did.

As I ponder on my thoughts back then today, it’s amazing how something will come back up when it’s time for me to step outside of my comfort zone. Of course, I’m more mature in my faith today than I was at that time, but sometimes our initial reaction is fear, & definitely fear of the unknown. But the Bible says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy 2:17) What peace this brings!

I’m happy to be in a place where I’m working more & more to replace any fears with faith. I’m happy to be reminded of where God has brought me from, knowing He can take me further than I’ve ever dreamed. Getting there will be a journey, but prayerfully & faithfully, I will lean on God’s understanding for the journey. I feel that He’s trying to teach & to tell me something; now it’s time to step out on His word & promises.

My prayer for us today is to not let fear have reign over our goals, dreams, & lives. Our God is bigger than any fear or challenge could ever imagine. So what’s holding you back?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/15/13

Scripture: Isaiah 60:5 Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come. (NIV)

Nugget: This scripture reminds me of things to come; the things that will come after the darkness, after the crying, after the frustration, etc. We all face many things that weigh us down, sometimes, we get so caught up in the things & the difficulties that we forget there’s another side to the coin. This is the side of the things to come.

What’s on this other side? Blessings, continued life, happiness, joy, peace, & God’s love that was always there. “You will look and be radiant, your heart will swell with joy.” These are the things that I’m looking forward to after experiencing some difficulties; I am beginning to focus on these things.

Don’t dwell on your problems, hurt, pain, etc. too long. Think about the great things that are coming on the other side of these situations. I continually remind myself that God’s plan is for me to prosper & to have hope! Thanking Him in advance for the joy & happiness that’s on the other side!

Quote: “And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” -Haruki Murakami

Cleaning House

Not too long ago, actress Jada Pinkett-Smith shared great advice about Cleaning House on her page. What she usually shares is very wise & brings clarity to situations that we may be facing & to other situations that we may not know of. I wanted to share it with you:

Cleaning House

I have been setting new boundaries and CLEANING HOUSE. I have often made the mistake of giving too much of myself, of my space, and of the things around me. So much so...I had created a circle of entitlement that had me STUCK. I'm in the process of creating psychic change, taking more responsibility for what I CREATE, and removing those from my space who have no desire to change with me.

It's hard to let go, but we have to remove old ways of thinking and people who won't gravitate to the new in order to make room for new friendships, new experiences, and a more fulfilling life.

What a great reminder for us to clean house every now-and-then. We must be mindful of who we surround ourselves with, what we're holding on to, & what/who we need to let go of.

May you be blessed by these words as well.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 7/9/13

Scripture: Psalm 18:19 He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of us are facing things, or have faced things, in which we find ourselves being overwhelmed. This has been the case with me lately; however, I’m learning that being still in God’s presence & seeking Him are the best ways to handle the situations before me. Because once I begin to focus on the situations only, I can lose sight of what God is trying to do & what He will do.

The scripture above reminded me of these situations; “He brought me out of a broad place”. This makes me think about all the things I have on my plate & I face daily, but during the day & at the end of the day I can reflect on God bringing me through it all. He never promised that everything would be easy, but He loves me that much to be there for me regardless of what is going on.

God is a deliverer of many things; we just have to move out of His way to allow Him to step in. Let God bring you out of the broad place (or places) today. He loves us so much & doesn’t want us to stay there.

Quote: “No matter what looms ahead, if you can eat today, enjoy the sunlight today, mix good cheer with friends today, enjoy it and bless God for it. Do not look back on happiness -- or dream of it in the future. You are only sure of today; do not let yourself be cheated out of it.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/5/13

Scripture: Jude 1:24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless, Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy (NKJV)

Nugget: Yesterday I took some quiet time to reflect over things I’ve accomplished & the things I still want to accomplish in life. At some point, I can say that I became a little overwhelmed with remaining items on my list of dreams & goals. For some reason, I began to think about the things that have affected my confidence over time. It’s amazing how the mind can be!

In this process, I also began to think about the things that God has brought me through, the goals & dreams He’s helped me to achieve thus far, & how He can continue to do the same in the future. God is the one who will keep me from stumbling; He will do the same for you as well!

There are times in life where we will feel that we just can’t get to where we are trying to go; however, this feeling is one that we’ve probably had before, but God helped us to make it. As the saying goes, “What God has for me is for me.” He will continue to be there through our good times, trying times, days when we’re up & days when we’re down; helping us to reach what He intends for us to have, with great praise & a joyful heart.

Daily Scriptures 7/3/13

Scripture: Psalm 107:29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. (NKJV)

Nugget: In thinking of hurricane season & the various daily rain storms we’ve had recently, there has been some very tough weather. It’s as if the sky opens up & God is sending down His tremendous rain showers. But as soon as the storm is over, the clouds have rolled away, & most times, the sun comes back out. This is how it is with life.

Although we face challenges & “stormy weather” in life, the sun does come back out. We do see light again. God allows us to face storms, but He also allows us to see the goodness after the storm & what we experienced.

In life, we face many ups & downs; good times & bad times. In the midst of life’s challenges God is there. No matter how things may seem & what is going on, God is in complete control. In spite of the storms we face, He’s there during the storms & afterwards. Instead of looking at what you’re facing, look to Him to bring you through it all.

Quote: “God has not promised you smooth sailing, but a safe landing.” -John Hagee

Daily Scriptures 7/1/13

Scriptures: Habakkuk 3:17-18 17Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— 18Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (NKJV)

Nugget: There may be times in our lives where we feel like nothing is going right. We try to get this done, try to achieve that goal, it can even be something as simple as wanting to clean the house, & yet, our “to-do” list still goes uncompleted. But regardless of how things may seem or what is going on, there’s still a reason for us to praise the Lord & to thank Him for wherever we are right now.

I’ve had a tough couple of weeks regarding certain things I’ve been praying on; it seems as if nothing is happening. But as I’ve learned in past situations, God is consistently & always working. Our “nothing” means God is up to something. We may not know what that something is right now, but all things will come to pass! I don’t doubt that.

Don’t complain about where you are right now; these scriptures mention many things that were not happening & it would’ve been easy to get down about this. However, Habakkuk rejoiced in & praised the Lord anyways!

In the midst of your situation & circumstance, praise God, rejoice in Him. Everything is working out if you only believe.

Praise Song: "Bethel"

A few weeks ago, at church, this awesome youth group came to peform at our church.  This group, Make a Joyful Noise Performing Arts Youth Outreach Ministry, was awesome.  The children performed skits, sang, & danced.  What an amazing group of young Christians.  The group itself is funded by donations only & travel throughout the States to promote Christ; it was an awesome feeling to see the youth do this from their hearts.  Please see their site for more information by clicking HERE.

This week's praise song is Shana Wilson's "Bethel".  This is one of the songs the youth mimed to during their performance & let me tell you, it was powerful!! They definitely did some ministering to us.

May we aim to be the place where God lives; in heart, mind, body, & soul!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 6/28/13

Scripture: Isaiah 65:23 They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many times when you ask someone how they are doing, the answer will be “I’m blessed”. It’s awesome that they know this & are speaking it aloud. Because at times, many others do not know how blessed they are.

One of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s definitions of blessed is, “bringing pleasure, contentment, or good fortune“. So understanding & feeling we’re blessed means we have pleasure, contentment, and/or good fortune in the Lord. These are all things that a relationship with Him brings.

In the scripture prior to this one, it’s mentioned that God’s people will enjoy the work of their hands; we won’t labor in vain. Our children are blessed because of our actions & how we’re blessed. We’re blessed because of those who came before us.

This scripture doesn’t say that we might be blessed due to those who came before us; it says that we shall be blessed! The same goes for our children. Don’t ever go around thinking that you aren’t blessed or do not having blessings in your life. It is written, so walk in it! When someone asks you how you are doing, reply “I’m blessed” & mean it.

Quote: “The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.” -Eric Hoffer

Daily Scriptures 6/26/13

Scripture: Psalm 18:28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. (NIV)

Nugget: We all have good days & bad days. Definitely, the good outweighs the bad; however, some of the bad days can seem endless & have lasting effects on us (ex: stress, restlessness, etc).

The scripture above indicates God keeps our lamps burning & turns darkness into light. I love the words here; I think of the days where I felt as if I couldn’t go on & was able to do so. Most people would say to us, “Look for the light at the end of the tunnel”. Sometimes we don’t think about that light being God!

God’s way of turning darkness into light is demonstrated through His love for us; a love that is so great that He gave His only son, Jesus, to die for us & our sins. What a love this is!

On your dark or darkest days, do your best not to focus on what you’re facing that could be overwhelming: focus on the best source of light we have during these dark moments.

Daily Scriptures 6/25/13

Scriptures: Esther 4:13-14 13And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. 14For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (NKJV)

Nugget: Esther was Queen (married to King Ahasuerus) at the time much turmoil was going on in the land. Her people, the Jews, were being plotted against & killed. Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, came to warn her of what was occurring. Although Esther was Queen, she was still a Jew & Mordecai reminded her that she would still face the same fate as the rest of their people.

It was up to Esther to realize that God put her in a certain place at a certain time to perform a certain action. She had to decide whether or not to do something to help her people, regardless of her title. She acted upon the steps to take in order to help her people.

How many times have we doubted we’re here for a purpose or for a particular reason? Little did Esther know she would become Queen one day & be the one to save her people. Just as Esther, we were created for such a time as this! God has us all here for a specific reason at this specific time in history. It’s up to us to seek His wisdom & understanding regarding our lives.

Don’t ever underestimate your gifts, talents, purpose, & life. You’re here for a reason---God says so.

Quote: “God has a great plan for your life! You are here not just to take up space or make a living. You are on this planet at this time in history for a unique purpose.” -Olga Hermans

Daily Scriptures 6/21/13

Scripture: Proverbs 29:9 If a wise man contends with a foolish man, Whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace. (NKJV)

Nugget: One of my friends often reminds me of how “like attracts like”. For instance, we may wonder why someone is friends with a certain person, or in a relationship with a certain person--most times feeling that they have nothing in common. However, there is usually something that bonds the individuals together.

We must not take lightly the relationships we have. The above scripture mentions wise men contending with foolish men; in situations such as this, peace usually cannot be found. Just think on the times you’ve argued or disagreed with someone who had foolish actions or thoughts; the discussion usually ends up going nowhere.

Our associations in life are really important; go in the direction of peace. Don’t allow anything or anyone to steal your peace.

Quote: “Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 6/20/13

Scriptures: Psalm 106:24-25 24Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe His word, 25But complained in their tents, And did not heed the voice of the LORD. (NKJV)

Nugget: Moses was doing as God called him to do in leading the people to the Promised Land. However, along the way, Moses faced many challenges, especially those coming from the people in form of overall complaining. This truly was not an easy task; especially while staying focused on what God had called Him to do.

So many times we complain & complain about our situations or circumstances. How many times do these complaints take us further away from God & all that He has blessed us with? The other day, I asked a friend how he was doing, his response was, “I can’t & won’t complain.” This stuck with me; I can’t & won’t complain, instead I will focus on God & the blessings, as well as lessons, He has for me.

Regardless of what we see & face on a daily basis, don’t let your complaints overshadow or supersede any praises that you can give to God. Your complaints could be the things that are keeping you from hearing God’s voice.

Challenge for today: When you find yourself complaining, counter this with a statement of praise about a blessing!

Quote: “Life is better when it's spent being grateful that you're alive instead of complaining how bad it is.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 6/19/13

Scripture: Judges 13:1 Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years. (NKJV)

Nugget: Obedience; this is something that many individuals struggle with. I remember growing up, when being disobedient, getting punishment for my actions. Those definitely were hard lessons learned, but ones I haven’t forgotten!

The children of Israel were being evil in the sight of the Lord, & faced the consequences of their actions---they were in the hands of the Philistines for 40 years. We may look at them and wonder, “Why in the world did they act that way & face 40 years for their actions?”, but in reality, there are things we do & actions we take that we have let entrap us as well. It may not have lasted 40 years, but it has had a lasting impact on us.

If you’re praying about something & God is giving you direction on it, be obedient & follow Him; He will guide you to what it is you’re seeking. If God is telling you not to move, don’t move; stay put until He tells you want to do next. Obedience is stepping out of God’s way & making room for Him to step in.

Quote: “God's commands are designed to guide you to life's very best. You will not obey Him, if you do not believe Him and trust Him. You cannot believe Him if you do not love Him. You cannot love Him unless you know Him.” -Henry Blackaby

Daily Scriptures 6/18/13

Scripture: Proverbs 18:16 A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of my recent prayers have been about using the gifts that God has blessed me with in order to achieve dreams & to help others. I want to make sure I’m in God’s will & am not sitting on the gifts that He has placed in me. Too many times I believe that we let things, life, people, etc. get in the way of this.

In this process it’s easy to get caught up in what I may or may not have, but truth be told, what God has put in me (& in us) will make room for doors to open. This scripture speaks about our gifts making room for us. It’s funny because I don’t remember seeing this scripture before!

The first step is having the dream that God put in you, the next step includes acting on this dream & having faith in God regarding the gifts in you. These gifts will make room for you to meet the right people, for doors to open, & for you to do things you never thought possible. God will not give you the dream & gifts without allowing the path to achieve them to be present. Of course there may be bumps along the way, but faith in God & in yourself will get you there.

Quote: “God gives hope to those who dream. Gives miracle to those who believe. He never lets down those who trust and never leaves those who walk with Him.” -Nishan Panwar

Daily Scriptures 6/6/13

Scriptures: Genesis 12:4-5 4So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the Daily Scriptures from 6/4/13, it was mentioned that Abram stepped out of his comfort zone to do what God asked him to do---leave his country, his home, & the people he knew. Abram did follow God’s command, but he partially followed it---Abram took Lot, his brother’s son, with him. This wasn’t a part of God’s request.

There are so many times that I feel that I’m obeying God, but am I partially obeying Him? Am I picking & choosing what I want to do? I can admit, at times, I’ve fallen short in this area. Then I’m reminded of a saying I’ve heard numerous times, “Everyone cannot go with you.” And maybe this is what God wanted Abram to learn; Lot was not to be a part of God’s plans for the next phase of Abram’s life.

If God is telling us to do something, there is definitely purpose & meaning behind it. We may not know the whole plan, but He does. Don’t hold on to things, people, etc. that God is asking you to let go of. When it’s time for you to “depart” & move forward, know that God has blessing coming your way.

Daily Scriptures 6/4/13

Scriptures: Genesis 12:1-2 1Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family, And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2I will make you a great nation; I will bless you, And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. (NKJV)

Nugget: During my Bible reading time today, I was looking for confirmation regarding stepping out in faith---stepping out of comfort zones. How many times have I read the scriptures above & overlooked one of the important meanings here? God asked Abram (Abraham) to leave the place he knew, to get away from the people he knew, & to leave his home. Abram did just this & went to where God asked him to go.

For Abram, he needed to leave what he knew in order to get to where God wanted him to be. In order to grow, Abram had to go to new places, experience new things, & to let go of what he knew. How many times has God tried to tell us to do the same thing? Sometimes, we try to hold on to the things & people that God wants us to let go of in order to get to that next level. AND we even say we’re moving forward while looking back.

I’m not saying that you have to move to another place to get to where God wants you to be; this stepping out will be different for all of us. But we all know what God is asking us to do in order to move forward in life.

I continue to pray for change & growth; I pray that we not to miss what God is trying to show us regarding stepping out in faith & moving forward! Doing this without looking back; our blessings are tied to our obedience.

Daily Scriptures 5/28/13

Scripture: Psalm 136:4 To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures forever (NKJV)

Nugget: There are so many things that happen in life that we can get caught up in the negativity we see & hear on a daily basis. The one thing I try to remember is to not lose sight of God in the midst of it all.

God alone does great wonders---it’s amazing the things we overlook on a daily basis while the negativity surrounds us. These great wonders can come in the smallest of things to the largest of things. Sometimes, I sit outside & listen to the birds singing & going along like they have no worries--this to me is a great wonder; it’s as if their faith is intact from the moment they wake up each morning. At other times, great wonders come in the form of healing--the loved one who is released from the hospital after recovering from an illness.

God’s great wonders; let us embrace them as we continue to embrace & seek Him.

Quote: “The world will never starve for want of wonders.” -Gilbert Keith Chesterton

Daily Scriptures 5/24/13

Scriptures: Jeremiah 33:1-2 1Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 2“Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is His name) (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we feel that we’re praying & praying & cannot hear God. We feel as if our prayers are getting nowhere. I began to reflect on the times when I felt this way; I began to think about what I was doing during these times. Was I being still? Was I missing what God was trying to show me? Did He send me an answer through someone & I overlooked it?

In these scriptures, God came to Jeremiah a second time to speak to him & Jeremiah was in prison; it appears to me that God finally had Jeremiah in a situation where Jeremiah could both 1) listen to God & 2) be still! It’s amazing what God will do to get our attention. Yes, sometimes it takes all of this!

Jeremiah was finally in a place to accept what God was saying; our God who made everything, formed everything, & allows things to happen. If you’re currently not hearing God, is He trying to speak to you a second time as well?

Quote: “Normally my mind is racing a mile a minute thinking about my next move, the future, this and that...but today I'm choosing to be still and focus on the now. This moment. Thanking God for it and thanking Him for having already gone before me to work out the next scene in my life.” -Unknown

You Are Here

Have you ever been at the mall, not knowing where the store you were looking for was located? You stop at one of the directories in the mall, in search of the store. But first, on the map, you locate the “You Are Here” symbol. This is the beginning to finding where you are going to get to the store. I began to think about this in my Christian walk & my search for God when I feel that He’s not here.
There are so many times that we go blindly in search of things, people, & ourselves, not realizing that God is there, even when we feel that He’s far away. However, God is very much near, we are just unable to find the “You Are Here” spot in our daily walk. God is around, but we are lost. Just think of the times when you’ve stared at the directory in the mall & the store you were looking for was around the next corner. That’s how it is with God---He’s right there.

Are you looking for God in the midst of your circumstances, challenges, daily walk, etc.? Have you checked the “directory” & are unable to see that He’s right there? He’s waiting for you to “find” Him in the midst of being lost. He’s waiting for you to call upon Him in Jesus’ name. Don’t miss that He’s right there looking at you to seek Him.

It’s definitely overwhelming (& at times frustrating) to be lost, looking at a map, & being unsure of where you are going! However, “You Are Here” & able to find God in the midst of being lost--He’s right there waiting for you to find Him in what you’re going through. Similar to when we find that store we’re looking for on the directory & how relieved we become---how much more relieved we’ll be when we realize that God is a consistent part of our map of life, & is right there waiting for us, loving us unconditionally?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 5/21/13

Scriptures: I Samuel 2:6-7 6“The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. 7The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. (NKJV)

Nugget: God is both a restorer & one who will remove things from our lives. Although He may remove certain things & people, this most likely serves the purpose of bringing us higher than we were before. Of course, some sort of lesson may be involved, but God’s purpose will prevail.

God does nothing without meaning behind it; even when we don’t understand all the details, we must trust Him. Just think on the things that He removed from you & brought something to you 100 times better than what you had before. God makes no mistakes!

Stand back & allow God to remove & restore aspects of your life that can only be done by Him.

Quote: “As we come to know God better, we will also find it easier to know, follow, and accept His will for our life.” -Elizabeth George

Daily Scriptures 5/20/13

Scripture: Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Nugget: One of the ministers mentioned in his sermon yesterday, “You may know God, but do you trust Him?” Such a profound statement; many of us state that we trust God, but do we really? What do we do when the challenging times arise? When we have some form of doubt? Do we lean closer to Him, or do we question what we’re going through? I can say that I’m guilty of faltering! But thank God He is a forgiving God, a just God.

God is consistently consistent! He knows when we trust Him; He knows when we are in doubt. Sometimes what we are going through is for the purpose of building trust & faith in Him---to experience growth in our relationship with Him.

No matter what you may have going on, no matter what doubt you may be experiencing, your strong hold, our Lord, is there with you. Put your trust in the most consistent part of your life! You can’t go wrong with Him!

Quote: “Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.” -George Mueller

Daily Scriptures 5/15/13

Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 12:9-10 9And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. 10The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth. (NKJV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like being a part of church where God’s word is PREACHED & TEACHED. It’s a great feeling to be able to be a member of a church where both of these are occurring; we want to be somewhere where the word is being given to us in order for us to grow, to be fed, & to learn God’s word to face the issues of life & to be witnesses to those around us. I can say that my church is this type of church, & my Pastor is this type of Pastor!

We should all feel that our Pastor is the best Pastor there is (I know mine is)! We want a leader who not only walks the walk, but preaches the gospel of God’s word---someone who challenges us in our actions, thoughts, & growth in the Lord. When he/she preaches, you can say, “Ouch” because he/she is talking directly to you without even knowing it.

May you find this type of church family for yourself (if you haven’t already!). God will guide you there; seek Him & He will point you in the right direction.

Quote: “Give me 100 preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God; such alone will shake the gates of hell.” -John Wesley

Daily Scriptures 5/14/13

Scripture: 1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (NKJV)

Nugget: I’ve always believed that actions speak louder than words. For instance, we can say that we’ll do various things & then do the opposite. This speaks volumes. This scripture reminds me of the exact same thing; are what I’m saying & doing lining up with each other? Most days, I believe this to be the case, others, I admit I still struggle.

As we continue on this Christian journey & draw closer to God, we will experience changes & growth we thought we could never reach. This fellowship & relationship with Him allows us to grow & to seek the truth that can only be found in Him. There will be no more darkness, only the light that comes from Him which will shine in us! Thank you, Lord!

Quote: “Remember: He WANTS your fellowship, and He has done everything possible to make it a reality. He has forgiven your sins, at the cost of His own dear Son. He has given you His Word, and the priceless privilege of prayer and worship.” -Billy Graham

Daily Scriptures 5/7/13

Scriptures: I Corinthians 12:1, 4-6 1Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. (NIV)

Nugget: Gifts, lately my thoughts & meditations have been about the gifts that God has instilled in me. These same gifts are ones that I’m using, ones that I’m trying to use, or ones that I haven’t even tapped into yet. Then I came across these scriptures! What confirmation God has given me.

There are so many things that we sit on & do not even activate. Meaning, what is that dream that you had that you haven’t achieved yet (or haven’t even stepped out of the box to begin to achieve)? It’s most likely that you’re sitting on the gifts that God has in you; these are the God-given gifts that only can be activated once you tap into what God has put in you. For me, it’s my writing; I need to continue on the path that God has for me--utilizing the gifts that He’s put in me.

One of the main things that could be hindering you from stepping out & achieving your dreams is that you haven’t tapped into the gift(s) God has in you; your dream & getting started is connected to Him. Most likely, there’s no other way to achieve it until you tap into Him, activate your gifts, & walk in faith.

Take some time today to talk to God, meditate & pray about your gifts; don’t sit on them. Allow God to show you how to walk in Him; don’t sit back on what He’s put in you.

Quote: “The gift is not something we learn. It is something God gave us. It is something we need to discover and then stir up. No one else can activate your gift for you.” -Dr. Myles Monroe

Daily Scriptures 5/2/13

Scriptures: Jonah 4:9-10 9Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “It is right for me to be angry, even to death!” 10But the LORD said, “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to this one, it is apparent that Jonah is angry with God for relenting in His actions to bring disaster upon the people of Nineveh. The people had turned from their evil ways, believed in, & followed God. Jonah’s anger stemmed from God changing His mind about overthrowing Nineveh.

Following God’s decision, Jonah had built up anger as he felt action still needed to be taken on the people of Nineveh; so much anger was built up that he took it upon himself to make shelter on the outside of the city to be by himself. God provided shelter & shade to Jonah during his time in self-imposed isolation; later God took this away, which heightened Jonah’s anger.

Overall, God was trying to teach Jonah the lessons regarding holding anger. Jonah was holding on to anger that he didn’t need to. God reminded him that the things & people he was holding anger towards, weren’t even for him to do. This reminded me of how we sometimes do the same thing; there’s so much that we hold on to that we don’t need to (anger, hurt, pain, etc.), but God is trying to tell us that it’s not for us to do so!

What is God trying to show you regarding the things (& people) that you need to let go of? What are you holding on to that isn’t yours to do so? It’s amazing what we could have if we just let go.

Quote: “Holding anger is a poison...It eats you from inside...We think that by hating someone we hurt them...But hatred is a curved blade...and the harm we do to others...we also do to ourselves.” -Mitch Albom

Daily Scriptures 4/30/13

Scripture: Proverbs 23:9 Don’t waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice. (NLT)

Nugget: There are just some people who will not heed to wise advice. You can speak to these individuals & be the best person to listen to their issues/problems, but the bottom line is they will not take wise counsel.

I’ve learned over time, the best thing to do is to pray for these people; God can definitely handle things better than we can. Of course, He knows the person’s situation better than we do & can lead the individual in the right direction.

Don’t waste any precious time on the people who will not listen, instead allow God to do His will & His work.

Quote: “The true secret of giving advice is, after you have honestly given it, to be perfectly indifferent whether it is taken or not, and never persist in trying to set people right.” -Hannah Whitall Smith

Daily Scriptures 4/24/13

Scripture: Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes our struggles & problems can become overwhelming. For me, when this happens, of course I pray, but then I begin to think on the power I have in Jesus; the power He has to change things to work in my favor. I also begin to reflect on the fact that there’s “nothing new under the sun”. Whatever we may be facing, Jesus has faced too (or has faced something similar or relatable). This scripture points out that He was to be tempted by the devil.

Yes, Jesus faced temptations & other struggles; however, it’s how He handled these instances that we must focus on. He had faith that God would bring Him through; He had knowledge of & knew God’s word in order to combat what He was facing. Jesus knew the power He had & acted on this power.

Most times we don’t know the power we have in God & His word; we forget the example that Jesus set for us. Let us not so easily give up or get discouraged---God loves us too much for us to be discouraged by the challenges we face. Don’t relinquish the power & praise you have to these challenges, use power & praise to face them & to overcome them.

Quote: “Jesus spoke the Word of God throughout His ministry. When faced with the devil's lies and temptations, He countered with the truth of God's Word. The spoken Word of God is like a living, powerful sword in our mouths (Hebrews 4:12), and if Jesus depended upon it to face challenges in life, so can we.” -Mary Fairchild

"YOLO": You Only Live Once

This past weekend was a great one for me! I truly enjoyed the time with my friends & even got some “me” time in as well. It became a reminder to me not to take this precious gift we call life for granted.

Although this weekend was a great one for me, there were some difficult moments as well. Six months ago, my hairdresser lost her life being a bystander to domestic violence. Her business partner was involved in a relationship in which the boyfriend came into their salon & took revenge out on everyone who was in the salon. This story made national news & headlines. It definitely is difficult to think about, let alone talk about. Needless to say, I have been doing my hair on my own for the past 6 months. Well, this past weekend, I returned to the original shop my hairdresser worked at before going out on her own. God truly worked it out where He put familiar faces into my return visit, making it one that I could both cry at, laugh at, & remember my hairdresser in the way that I want to remember her. Although the visit was difficult, it was therapeutic. I will always remember my beloved hairdresser & the place she had (& continues to have) in my heart & my life. She is truly missed.

As part of my weekend, I had the chance to run & spend time with my running group sisters! They are truly amazing. During this time, one of the mentioned to me the saying, “YOLO”. I can tell you, I never heard this saying before; thank goodness in the next sentence she said what it meant without me even asking: You Only Live Once. Wow. How fitting this was for the day I had before me (I went to the salon after my morning run). I think that the encouraging words given to me by my friends, family, & by my sister-in-running helped me in my decision to return to getting my hair done & visiting another hairdresser at the original salon (for you see, my hairdresser had been the only one who has done my hair for me, except for one visit as she was on vacation. The hairdresser from the one other visit is who I saw this weekend). So it was a very difficult trip for me.

With all this being said, the next day, I heard the saying “YOLO” again. It’s amazing how God works. I think that this was truly His message for me for this weekend. In the midst of the great times, the tears I shed at the salon, & spending time with friends, God reminded me that life is so short; there’s nothing or no one I should take for granted. He also reminded me of the gift of time, which is just as precious as this life we have.

I know I’ve blogged about this before, but don’t take anything or anyone for granted. Let people know what they mean to you while they’re still here walking this earth. There are many things I wish that I could’ve said to both my Grandpa & my hairdresser, both of whom I lost last year; but I carry them with me in my heart, prayers, & memories, remembering & feeling all that they mean to me.

Enjoy life---don’t put anything off until tomorrow---work to achieve your goals & dreams; allowing God to use you for His glory & all that He has in store. There’s so much to life; we must do our best to remember this & to live life this way.

Remember You Only Live Once.

Until next time.
