Daily Scriptures 2/28/13

Scripture: Psalm 17:3 You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say. (NLT)

Nugget: I have to admit, there are times in which I’ve had conversations with God that are similar to this scripture. In these conversations, I’m basically telling God, “I’ve done all You’ve asked me to do. I’m doing things in order & trying to align with You; just trying to do the right thing.” But sometimes I feel that nothing is happening or, not necessarily that God has forgotten about me, but that wondering if He hears me.

But with all of this said, I’m overlooking one of the facts indicated in this scripture: God examines my heart; this is a continuous occurrence. In this examination, God may find things that are incomplete, inconsistent, or just simply, things that I need to continue to grow in or grow from.

I don’t feel that there’s anything God wouldn’t give me that isn’t in His will for me to have, however, His will & timing are so different from mine because He knows what I’m ready for & where I still need to grow.

My encouraging word to you today: Continue to do what’s right according to God; His plans will happen, just as sure as our Savior is Jesus, God is working all things out.

Quote: “Dear God, teach me the wisdom of your timing. Let me use the time that I need to wait for the answers to my prayers to develop my confidence and trust in you.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 2/27/13

Scripture: Psalm 18:20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes we may wonder why God hasn’t answered a certain prayer or granted us this or that; however, these things may not or have not occurred because of us. Meaning, what are we doing to demonstrate to God that we are worthy of the things we seek from Him? Are we on the right track? Are we aligned with His word? Or could it be that there’s something we need to learn & to grow from in order for us to be ready for the thing(s) that we seek? Sometimes our blessings to come are tied up not only in God, but in us!

This scripture mentions “according to the cleanness of my hands”, basically, how “clean” are our hands? Are we positioning ourselves to receive what God has for us? Sometimes, we may think that we are ready for something & truth be told, we are not.

I’m striving daily to work on myself, but not only that, to work on my relationship with God. I’m certain there are things that I can do better to grow in Him; I want to be aligned with Him & His will in order for Him to reward me according to my righteousness!

Running Update: Goal Accomplished--Disney Princess Half Marathon Completed

I’m so proud!! Last year, a friend & I challenged ourselves to complete the Disney Princess Half Marathon! Yesterday, I completed it. It was both challenging & fantastic. There’s nothing like accomplishing a goal you’ve set for yourself.
The run itself was not an easy one; there were so many people out there. Our registration books indicated that there were over 24,000 people registered; however I saw bib numbers over 32,000! And also, I am still recovering from being sick & having injuries. My overall goal was to finish the race & accomplish this goal that I’ve set for myself.

I completed majority of the race by myself, but was able to text my cousin & my friend along the way to let them know how I was doing. My running group was also at the finish line to support as well.

Overall, I’m glad that I accomplished this goal in which last year I thought could never happen. Next up, another Half Marathon in April; I figure I can make up the time on this one & be back at 100%.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/21/13

Scripture: 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many of us face many health issues; some of these issues can be small (from having a cold) to large (facing cancer or other illnesses). Lately, I’ve learned the importance of praying over my health just as I do with other concerns; as this appears to be something I didn’t do as earnestly as I did with other prayers.

A friend reminded me of the importance of seeking God regarding health matters based upon something she was facing. When she made this statement, I was surprised this wasn’t something I’d be doing before; because, aren’t we to take everything to God in prayer?

God is a healing God, just as He was all those centuries ago. He can heal now just as He did then. Don’t allow any health issues that you’re facing to overcome you to the point where you forgot to pray earnestly about these issues, allowing God to step in & to heal you. He always answers right on time.

Quote: “An affirmation to say everyday: The healing power of God is working in me right now. Every day I get better and better in every way.” -Joyce Meyer

Daily Scriptures 2/19/13

Scripture: Psalm 9:10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes things happen in life that make us re-examine our faith & who (or what) we’re putting our trust in. We face many challenges & some of them cause us to waiver in our faith. I’m not saying this is the way it should be, but it does happen.

For instance, there are things that we pray for that we know are going to happen. But what about those extraordinary prayers that we have some doubt about? Why do we even doubt or falter in our faith, if we have the God that we do? He can do all things!

I’m thanking God for the challenges that I’m facing; I’m not saying it’s always easy, but it does allow me to see where I am in my faith. It allows me to learn & to grow in Him. I will continue to seek Him in all I do & trust Him with all my heart. I pray & encourage you to do the same!

Running Update: Still Running 1-Year Later

Today is officially my 1-year running anniversary! Last year on this date, my friend & I decided to complete our 1st 5K Run cold turkey. Very little training was involved; we wanted to see “where we were starting from” in order to begin training for our 1st Half Marathon (which is later this month by-the-way). I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by!

I’ve made great improvement & achieved great goals over this past year. I’ve definitely done more things that I thought I could never do! Including completing my 1st Half Marathon before the initial 1-year date I gave myself.

So the Half this month will show me the improvement that I’ve had since this December; I’m praying that I complete it a little sooner, but if I don’t, I’ll still be happy with finishing! So in the past month, I’ve learned more about listening to my body & allowing it to recuperate from any injuries that may occur during running. I didn’t realize the surface that I ran the 1st Half Marathon in December would impact me so much, but again, I’m learning to listen to my body & to pay attention.

I have a few goals set for this year’s running as well! I’m already signed up for another half marathon in a few months as well as our running group’s goal of 1013 total miles by the end of 2013. I do feel that I’m behind in this goal though as I haven’t been able to run as much in the past month. However, EVERY mile counts!

I’m grateful to my family, friends, & running group sisters who have helped & encouraged me this past year. I also have a great running partner/friend that I’ve met through the group. I’m blessed to have good people in my life!

Pray for me as I continue on this journey; being somewhat “injured” has discouraged me some, but I will continue on (with any doctor’s orders to follow, of course!)

For 2013’s running, as my running partner & I say, we plan to “Keep It Moving”.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 2/14/13

Scripture: James 4:15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” (NKJV)

Nugget: Ironically, I mention the saying, “Lord willing” on a regular basis. Little did I know this saying was referenced in the Bible. (I’ve always heard that there’s nothing new under the sun & everything is in the Bible, so I don’t know why I’m surprised!)

There’s so much that we take for granted. Many times, we assume that the next moment, day, week, or month are guaranteed, but they aren’t. It’s only if God wills them to be that this is so. How many times do we automatically think that we’ll “Do something tomorrow”? But what if tomorrow never comes?

We must do everything in the Lord’s will; knowing that what He wills to happen will happen, but not to take the gifts that He’s given us for granted, for the time we have is a precious commodity.

Quote: “There are no 'if's' in God's world. And no places that are safer than other places. The center of His will is our only safety - let us pray that we may always know it!” -Corrie ten Boom

Daily Scriptures 2/12/13

Scripture: Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (NKJV)

Nugget: Grace----something that is given to us daily by God & something that we don’t deserve. I believe it’s a gift that we truly take for granted. Just think about it, where would we be without His grace & mercy? We would be awake right now, clothed in our right minds & able to move our limbs!

At no point-in-time should we ever think of ourselves more highly than we should; it’s only because of God & His endless love for us that we are here. This should be something we reflect & pray on everyday---thanking Him for loving us enough to give us grace.

May our faith continue to grow & our actions continue to show humbleness in our gratitude & love for our Lord.

Quote: “We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that He should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at His love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.” -Brennan Manning

Daily Scriptures 2/11/13

Scripture: Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (NKJV)

Nugget: Heaven----the place that many of us obtain to reach one day! And what a place it will be. No more tears, no more pain, no death---goodness, we can only imagine what God has in store for us!!

As we live the gift of each day, remember that what we have here on Earth is temporary; our final home is Heaven. May we look to God during our difficult & challenging times, knowing that day by day, all of our former things will pass away---He continues to prepare us for our final destination.

Quote: "Heaven is going to be like this life, only better. It will be like this life with all its joys and beauties and pleasures, but without the drawbacks -- with all the assets but none of the liabilities.” -David Brandt Berg

Daily Scriptures 2/7/13

Scriptures: Isaiah 43:6-7 6I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth—7Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (NKJV)

Nugget: Sometimes, I am still amazed at just how much God loves me. There’s nothing that He wouldn’t do for any of us. I mean, He gave his own son for us. That in itself was more than enough, but on top of all of that God doesn’t give up on us & continues to love us in spite of ourselves & the things we do & don’t do.

These scriptures remind me that God continues to call for us & doesn’t give up on the love He has for us. God created us for His glory & knows what He put inside of each of us---so why would He give up on us? He created us for His goodness & glory & won’t let us go. It’s our free will if we decide to go in another direction, but why would we? As one Gospel song says, “Don’t give up on God because He won’t give up on you.”

He loves us just that much & more!!!

Quote: “If you took the love of all the best mothers and fathers who ever lived (think about that for a moment)--all the goodness, kindness, patience, fidelity, wisdom, tenderness, strength and love--and united all those virtues in one person, that person would only be a faint shadow of the love and mercy in the heart of God for you and me.” -Brennan Manning

Daily Scriptures 2/6/13

Scripture: Isaiah 43:4 Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. (NLT)

Nugget: Do we think about those who came before us? Our grandparents, parents, loved ones, & even those in the Bible days who gave their lives for us. So many people came before us & gave their lives for something bigger than we can imagine. Most of these same individuals prayed for us, taught us about God, Jesus, & the love that comes from them.

Not only are we precious to those who came before us, but we’re so precious to God. No one loves us like He does---He gave His son for us!!  Don’t ever think you’re not worth it!! The love that exists for us goes back generations & continues to this day. What an everlasting love we have!

Quote: “Be encouraged, child of God. He loves you even in the midst of your pain. He loves you even when you don't love Him. He loves you when you feel utterly alone. He loves you with an everlasting love. Your suffering can take many things away from you, your health, your happiness, your prosperity, your popularity, your friends, your career, even your family. But there's one thing suffering can't take away: it can't take away the love of God.” -Ray Pritchard

Daily Scriptures 2/5/13

Scripture: Colossians 3:3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. (NLT)

Nugget: When we accepted Christ as our Lord & Savior, we died to our old lives & old selves. Our new lives are in Him. The more we seek Him and grow closer to Him, the closer we become to God.

There’s no other way to God, but through Jesus. As we strengthen our relationships & open our hearts to Jesus, we continue to allow God to take residence in our hearts as well. We can’t have one without the other!

Quote: “The greatest joy of a Christian is to give joy to Christ.” -Charles H. Spurgeon

Daily Scriptures 2/4/13

Scripture: Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. (NIV)

Nugget: Do you feel that you’re growing in Christ? Or do you feel that you’ve pretty much been at a standstill? We should be growing in Christ on a daily basis. I’m not saying that we’re supposed to know everything, but each day is a chance for growth in some area of our lives, so why not let this area be in our relationship with our Lord?

In growth comes wisdom, in wisdom comes maturity---we should aim to be no longer as babes in the Lord, but as adults who’ve established a solid foundation in Him. In achieving each level of our relationship with Jesus, we become stronger & stronger---no longer affected by the waves & demands of everyday life & people.

Quote: “One of the marks of spiritual maturity is the quiet confidence that God is in control - without the need to understand why He does what He does.” -Anonymous
