Praise Song: "I Need You"

Sharing Donnie McClurkin's song, "I Need You".  A very touching song that no matter what, God is always there when we call.  Our need for Him never diminishes & He's always there.

Until next time.

Thankful in the Storms

Most times, it’s so easy for us to praise God & to be thankful when things are going good. The promotion we prayed for has occurred, the bills are paid, & for the parents, the child(ren) you have been praying for are now on the right track. Yes, things are working out in our favor! This is when we can praise God the loudest, shout the most, & share our testimonies. Of course, there is nothing wrong with any of this, but what happens when the storms are rolling in & the blessings & answered prayers seem far off? How do we act in these storms? Are we thankful?

There are so many of us who are facing trying times & difficult circumstances. The storms, as well as challenges, are coming in full force. It’s as if a hurricane has been building & is set to hit our land (home, family, thoughts, prayers, bodies, etc.) at any moment. Do we praise God in this or do we doubt what He can do? Are we as prepared to be thankful spiritually as we are when preparing for a physical hurricane to hit?
To be thankful in our storms is one of our strengths in fighting & overcoming the storms. In Philippians 4:11, Paul states, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” (NKJV). Contentment in the storms can be unimaginable when everything is happening, but even in physical hurricanes, the eye of the storm passes over & there is calmness in the air—during this time, it’s as if the hurricane isn’t even around us---the bands are whipping around, but nothing can touch us. This is how being thankful during the storms of life can be---praising God & being thankful for what’s occurring & the “why” behind it! For without the storms, we would remain the same: there would be no growth of faith or trust in God, even our praise life could remain stagnant.

The “eye” of life’s storms develop in us that spirit of thankfulness through trials & tribulations. We must praise God at all times & offer to Him the praise of thankfulness regardless of what is going on. For in the storms, we develop into who He’s calling us to be: thankful, faithful, strong, & unwavering.

As Romans 5:1-5 reminds us: 1Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (NKJV)

Give thanks to God at all times, even the storms have a purpose!

Until next time.

Praise Song: "I've Seen Him Do It"

"I've Seen Him Do It" by Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers has been a very encouraging song to me lately!  It's a great one about the reminders of what God can & will do.  We must stay encouraged.  I hope this one helps you through as well!!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 9/27/16

Scripture: Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands. (NKJV)

Nugget: Building & growing, it’s something we all should be doing. However, there are times that we can build up & tear down in the next moment. Just think on the times when you felt encouraged & then someone came along & “burst your bubble”. Rebuilding in the promises of God & His word gets us back to the strong foundation needed.

Don’t allow anyone or anything to deter you from the building up of your house (self, confidence, home, job, etc.); what God has built for you shouldn’t easily fall---He’s too strong for that!

Quote: “It’s not the load that breaks you down. It’s the way you carry it.” –C.S. Lewis

Daily Scriptures 9/23/16

Scriptures: II Corinthians 3:16&18 16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 18So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (NLT)

Nugget: When searching through emails the other day, I came across one that I wasn’t searching for. It was filed away & I’d honestly forgotten about it; the exchange wasn’t a bad one, but not a good one either. In reading the email now, I could see it differently. I could see where the exchange revealed to me that the friendship was winding down & the next part of my journey had already started. Yet, there were things that were unresolved with this individual & I had outgrown the situation, that season was over.

That’s how it is in life; there will be times when we don’t understand why something is happening or why a change is occurring, but God has a way of changing us in areas we don’t realize---He removes the veil that blocked us from Him & at times, from others, who become part of our growing process.

Most times, we don’t realize how much we have changed, becoming more like Him, until something triggers us to reflect on it. I know I’m guilty of thinking I still have so far to go, but fail to recognize how far I’ve come.

Don’t only reflect on what you have yet to do, thank God for the transformation that has already occurred.

Quote: “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new.” -Socrates

Daily Scriptures 9/22/16

Scripture: Daniel 10:12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. (NKJV)

Nugget: God is always there & is the same God He was back then; from generation to generation & century to century, He’s remained consistent. The changing aspect of our relationships with God is us! We’re consistently learning & growing, we go from babes in Christ to children to adults, etc. (& in some instances, we may repeat a few steps in the growth process!)

In this scripture, Daniel had to not only open his mind but his heart to understanding God & His will in order to be heard. It wasn’t that God was absent, it was that Daniel wasn’t open---once this occurred, God’s presence became known.

How many times have we been blind to what’s right in front of us? Whether it be God trying to get our attention & we missing the neon lights that He’s shining, or even that love who’s been present that we chose to ignore. God is waiting for our hearts & minds to open to understanding---He’s waiting to step in, if we would recognize Him.

Quote: “Some people complain they don’t feel God’s presence in their lives. The truth is, God manifests Himself to us every day. We just fail to recognize Him.” –

Daily Scriptures 9/21/16

Scripture: Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (NKJV)

Nugget: We’ve all heard the saying, “God is good!” & for many of us, it’s something that we say on a consistent basis. It’s not that we don’t believe it, but there can be times when we say it out of habit & it becomes routine. Unfortunately, this can easily happen in our day-to-day lives.

Maybe one way we can change the routine up a little is to really think & focus on the goodness of God when we make the statement. Take those moments to reflect on how good He is from waking us up this morning to giving His only Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. Even putting on shoes each day is a blessing! (There are many people all over the world who are unable to do this---they live in poverty, have health issues, etc.)

Let’s not only say that “God is good”, but let’s walk in the truth of His goodness, renewing our “routine” on a daily basis.

Quote: “Every good thing in my life exists because of God’s goodness.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 9/19/16

Scripture: Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. (NKJV)

Nugget: Life can bring changes & challenges in an instant. This instant can include so many things that change our paths, directions, & even attitudes. The thing is: what is our reaction to these situations & what they entail? Do we remember that God is truly good in the middle of the storms? Do we remember the level of His mercies & grace that have carried not only us, but the generations before us? Or do we give in without acknowledging how He can carry us through?

One of my favorite sayings is, “No matter what God is always working.” We have to keep this in mind regardless of what is going on. Our attitudes & reactions should always lead us to God; don’t let the changes & challenges get you down! God is bigger than these.

Quote: “A test of a Christian’s character is what he does after he comes to the blockade in the road and what his attitude is after everything has left him except Jesus.” -Lester Roloff

Many of us have these dreams & goals that we’ve been putting off “until the right time”. We may find ourselves not even putting them off, but coming back to them time & time again. You know, the one thing that if you didn’t get paid to do it, you’d still do because it’s your God-given gift or talent. I’m finding that this is the “thing” that God has called me to do.

The thing is, it may not come easy! We’ve all heard the saying, “Anything worth having is worth fighting for”, but it’s also worth working for. Most times, dreams & achievements don’t just land on us—there’s a process to getting there---there’s a story behind it. One of the things that I love to do is to hear the story behind the person; meaning, their journey to “getting there”. For example, Tyler Perry has a story!! Before he was known to many, he had serious struggles—from sleeping in his car to using his last penny to put on a production where a small number of people showed up! But he didn’t give up & look at where he is today; there definitely had to be times where he faced discouragement. It’s not that our success is defined in the same manner as his, as we seek different dreams from God, but our dreams are obtainable in Him as well.

Earlier this year, I did a posting on my Anchor Verses. I keep coming back to them & reminding myself of the things that I spoke then to remind myself to keep going forward now. One of the verses:

A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. –Proverbs 18:16

Sometimes we get discouraged with the process or the status of our progress, but we must stay encouraged. As the scripture points out, the gift will make room for us! Sometimes these dreams & goals that God has put in us are what carries us in Him & opens the door that needs to be opened. Don’t underestimate the gifts that God has put in you---if you keep coming back to it (or it keeps calling you), know that God has a way of sending confirmation to you during the trying times of walking into your dreams & goals.

His plans for us will prosper---let’s not give up, but push on. Your dream is calling. Can you hear it?

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 8/10/16

Scriptures: Jeremiah 8:4-5 4“Jeremiah, say to the people, ‘This is what the LORD says: ‘When people fall down, don’t they get up again? When they discover they’re on the wrong road, don’t they turn back? 5Then why do these people stay on their self-destructive path? Why do the people of Jerusalem refuse to turn back? They cling tightly to their lies and will not turn around. (NLT)

Nugget: We’ve all gone down the wrong path or road at some point in our lives. Our journeys have taken us through various trials & tribulations that we’ve had to learn from. We usually learn from these instances & grow from them.

However, as noted in these scriptures, there are times where people can stay on self-destructive paths, reliving them over & over. We may have even found ourselves on some too. “Why?” is what we’ve likely asked when this occurs. This is when self-reflection & a talk with God are needed. In seeking Him, He can help in identifying where we need change & growth.

Are there destructive paths or repeated actions you need to turn back from? Something you’re holding on to tightly that needs to be released? Seek God for growth & change in these areas; He’s always working.

Quote: “No matter how far you have gone on the wrong road, you can still turn around.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 8/8/16

Scripture: Psalm 55:1 God, listen to my prayer and do not ignore my cry for help. (NCV)

Nugget: God hears us; no matter what, His ears & heart are always open when we call upon Him. There are even times when we don’t call upon Him, but He knows that we’re in need of Him & His guidance. Who else would know this? Our God is good!

Release your burdens & heaviness to Him; release the desires of your heart to Him. There’s nothing too big for Him & He’s always there. He recognizes our cries before we even ask. So very grateful that His door is always open.

Quote: “God doesn’t move in your life when you struggle; He moves when you pray.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 8/2/16

Scripture: John 15:5 “I am the vine. You are the branches. Those who live in me while I live in them will produce a lot of fruit. But you can’t produce anything without me.” (GW)

Nugget: Jesus---He’s who we should be connected to, the One we should focus on. In connecting to Him & accepting Him as our Lord & Savior, there’s our source of love & connection to God.

In connecting to Jesus, we have the life source that enables us to produce “fruit”—good things, peace, love, happiness, etc. Without it, we’re likely to go down the path of discouragement, doubt, fear, etc.

If we find ourselves getting off-track, it’s possible that our focus has changed from Jesus to something or someone else. Who are you connected to today?

Quote: “Every day, do something that will lead you closer to God.” –

Daily Scriptures 8/1/16

Scripture: II Corinthians 3:4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. (NKJV)

Nugget: God gave His son, Jesus, to die for our sins. There’s no greater display of love than this. This also represents the trust we have in God through Jesus. Because of Jesus & His love for us, we can go to God in prayer; also, Jesus intercedes on our behalf.

When our faith, confidence, etc. is wavering, Jesus knows when to step in & guide the way. We just have to give it over to Him, allowing Him to work---we have to give up the reigns & utilize the powerful trust that Jesus has. His bond with God is unbreakable.

What areas of your life can be turned over to Jesus? Where does your trust lay?

Daily Scriptures 7/29/16

Scriptures: Psalm 130:1-2 1From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. (NLT)

Nugget: Through the storms & challenges that we face, we must learn to call on the Lord first. Sure, it’s easy to go to the phone & reach out to a friend or family member, but God is closer than the phone—He’s a prayer a way & knows our voices immediately.

Majority of the time, He’s just waiting for us to call upon Him. Go to the One who will always hear your prayer & your cry. Lean on Him & His listening ear. God is always there!

Quote: “Actually, God does not want to just give us strength, He wants to be our strength.” –Joyce Meyer

Daily Scriptures 7/27/16

Scripture: Job 17:9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. (NIV)

Nugget: Doing the right thing can be challenging at times, especially when the “wrong thing” seems like an easier path. Just think on some of the times when doing the right thing caused you to go down a path that put you where you didn’t want to be or face something you weren’t ready to. BUT in the end, you grew from it, developing something you never thought you had in you or something you thought unattainable.

Sure, it can be easier to do what’s least challenging, but in the end, what’s the result? Most times, it’s something short-lived or fleeting. In taking the path that connects us to God’s will, we will experience growth, blessings, & strength that could only come from walking this path. It may not always be easy, but we know that all things are working for our good.

We must not let go of when God calls us to do right, standing with Him, without these moments, we could lose out on something that will strengthen us & carry us into more blessings.

Quote: “Keep a good attitude and do the right thing even when it's hard. When you do that you are passing the test. And God promises you your marked moments are on their way.” –Joel Osteen

Daily Scriptures 7/25/16

Scripture: Psalm 40:11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me. (NKJV)

Nugget: Renewing our minds---this is a daily occurrence as we face the various things, people, & challenges that come our way. Sometimes, it’s easier to feel defeated versus taking the steps to find an encouraging scripture, quote, or prayer to lift us up.

What’s important to remember is that the things we face are temporary in comparison to God. His mercies are new every day, regardless of how we feel, the challenges upon us, etc. His lovingkindness & truth are what preserves us. God’s mercies aren’t withheld from us, even on the days that we don’t recognize them, but it’s still imperative that we seek out God & speak to Him. He continually sustains us.

Daily Scriptures 7/20/16

Scripture: Genesis 1:27 So God created humans in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female. (GW)

Nugget: We can be our own tough & worst critics, spending time & energy wishing we looked a different way or had “this over that.” There’s always something we would want to change about ourselves to make ourselves look “better”. But during these times, have we paused to think that God knew exactly what He was doing when He made us?

God puts thought into everything & makes no mistakes. He took the time to create the Earth & all that’s in it; this also includes choosing our parents to making the last hair on our heads. We’ve been created in His image, therefore there’s nothing out-of-place. We’re God’s masterpieces & reflections of Him.

Don’t be critical of yourself, wishing something was different about you. God’s hands created you & His signature is a part of the finished product! You have His stamp of approval.

Daily Scriptures 7/19/16

Scripture: Psalm 30:2 LORD, my God, I prayed to you, and you healed me. (NCV)

Nugget: We can look all over & seek answers from various places or people, but these answers cannot be found there. They can only be found in God. Are we looking for answers in all the wrong places, or are we seeking God in prayer for healing, peace, direction, etc.?

Seek God in prayer for the answers/etc. that you need. He’s closer to us than anyone we’ll ever meet & He has the power to do all things.

Daily Scriptures 7/18/16

Scripture: Romans 1:17 The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself—that it begins and ends with faith. As the Scripture says, “But those who are right with God will live by faith.” (NCV)

Nugget: God’s word---it’s what lines us up with Him & what He calls us to do. His word allows us to grow in Him & in faith. Without reading His word, seeking Him, & getting to know Him, it’ll be very difficult to live by faith & have His presence in our lives.

I’ve heard someone mention, “We can’t only open our Bibles on Sundays & Wednesdays for service, we must read God’s word daily & spend time with Him.” This includes praying & seeking God on a daily basis. Could you imagine being in a relationship with someone & not spending time with them or getting to know them? There would be little to the relationship. Just an example of why we need to nurture our relationship with God.

Daily, we have the chance to spend time with the one who not only created this Earth, but who created us. This is one relationship we can’t take for granted.

Quote: “One of the best gifts we can give ourselves is time alone with God.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 7/15/16

Scripture: II Corinthians 4:17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! (NLT)

Nugget: Most of us have heard the saying, “The struggle is real!” We really go through some things!! This struggle can be to the point that one thing continues to happen after another; we wonder if it’s ever going to end.

Things to remember: 1) We’re going through the struggles; meaning, at an appointed time, they will end. God is pushing us through. 2) There’s something on the other side of the struggles & troubles; the scripture mentions that they produce a glory for us that outweighs them! So God is always working on blessings no matter what we’re experiencing.

Troubles are a part of life, but they are small in comparison to our big God. And what God has for us, He stamps with His approval & there’s no blessing that can compare to His!

Daily Scriptures 7/13/16

Scripture: II Chronicles 14:11 And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!” (NKJV)

Nugget: Asa cried out to God to help him in battle & what he was facing. Asa realized that God was the only one who could help prevail in this matter. Not only this, Asa spoke that it was nothing for God to help & that those against him did not have a chance with God on his side.

Regardless of what you’re facing & who may be against you (we all have battles on a daily basis), God is more powerful than these challenges & the people that bring them. Sometimes, our victory lies in our obedience & willingness to cast everything on God. Let’s not give over victory to these battles, when victory is with us turning it over to God.

God is God!! There’s nothing He cannot do!

Daily Scriptures 7/12/16

Scripture: Daniel 2:22 He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light. (NLT)

Nugget: There are many seasons that we go through in life: seasons of increase, seasons of drought, seasons of change, seasons of growth, etc. We many not understand these seasons when they’re occurring, but there’s something God wants us to get out of each of them. These seasons stretch us & change us, allowing us to be stronger & to change.

God stretches us during these times & pushes us as well; this is when we grow in Him. He understands what lies beneath the seasons & the mysterious things we do not. I’ve learned that the seasons have a purpose; regardless of how difficult they may be.

Don’t underestimate your seasons---grow through them & push (pray until something happens) through them. Remember, even Winter changes to Spring to Summer & back to Fall. Our darkness will change to light & our drought will change to overflow. Our changes are coming!

Quote: “God already knows what we're made of, but perhaps He wants us to learn what we're made of. I think we would all agree that we learn more from our tough times than from our easy times.” –John Bytheway

Daily Scriptures 7/11/16

Scripture: Psalm 25:5 Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. (NLT)

Nugget: God’s truth---most times, this His truth is very different from our own. When we try to lead ourselves, we usually end up going down the wrong road, but when we step back & put our hope & trust in God, where He leads us is limitless.

There shouldn’t be any decision we make or step we take without going through God first. With Him, we learn, grow, gain patience, & so much more. Now God’s timing may be different from our own; however, when He makes things happen, there isn’t room for doubt. God is the God who saved us, so He’ll never lead us wrong.

Daily Scriptures 7/8/16

Scripture: Proverbs 16:7 When people’s lives please the LORD, even their enemies are at peace with them. (NLT)

Nugget: This past year has taught me a lot about challenging people & the processes of dealing with them. Most times, this learning included me speaking up for myself & other times, knowing when to be quiet, allowing God to do His work.

By walking as an example of God, in these situations & in life, I’ve also gained how to have peace with these individuals & even have them be at peace with me (at times). Yes, we cannot change people & only can control ourselves, but there’s something when God’s protection is around us! “Enemies” & the challenges they bring can show us just how strong we are & how to walk in a peace that God can give.

Daily Scriptures 7/7/16

Scripture: John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (NLT)

Nugget: Jesus knows us, regardless of how far we may drift from Him. The thing is, are we listening to & for His voice when He calls us & in our daily lives? It’s easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life & even the other things that may drive us away from Jesus, but He’s still there.

As tough as some things may be & no matter how far away we may go, Jesus’ voice & His call aren’t far away. In what we’re experiencing, we can still hear the voice that’s above all---AND He knows us----in spite of how much time has passed, how many things we’ve done incorrectly, etc.

Listen for His voice, follow Him today---He hasn’t moved & He’s waiting for you!

Daily Scriptures 7/6/16

Scripture: Psalm 118:13 My enemies did their best to kill me, but the LORD rescued me. (NLT)

Nugget: It’s a part of life that we’ll have people that don’t like us. No matter how “good” we may be or how well we treat others, there is someone who will find something to dislike about us. The funny thing is, some of these same people won’t even know us or haven’t even talked to us.

But God has a way of moving these people from our paths, or not even allowing them to cross our paths. God’s ways include fighting the battles for us to rising us to a higher level to go beyond the enemies that exist. This is how we get promoted regardless of what “people may say”; this is how we’ve learned that “favor ain’t fair”. God always has our backs, no matter what.

Daily Scriptures 7/5/16

Scripture: Psalm 136:2 Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. (NKJV)

Nugget: Forever….it’s a long time! How many people or things can we attach this word to?? There are not too many that we can name, but God definitely has this attribute! Along with God being with us forever, He gives us the gift of mercy.

One of the definitions of mercy is “an act of kindness, compassion, or favor” ( Mercy has a lot of other things attached to it, but even if we stop to recognize these three items on a daily basis, we’re able to see just how far-reaching God’s mercy is.

God’s kindness, compassion, and favor are what get us through. With these, we welcome His endurance and presence with us along life’s journey. Thanking Him for always being there no matter what.

Daily Scriptures 7/1/16

Scripture: II Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. (NKJV)

Nugget: Many times I’ve heard that the battle we are in is a spiritual one; definitely not one that’s physical, meaning hands-on, when we come against the devil. If he gets into our minds & our thoughts, pretty much, he can bring us down. We begin to wonder how our thoughts ended up “way over there”, and “way over there” is usually not a good place.

Prayer, seeking God, & having that relationship with Him are what keeps us focused on fighting the battle from a spiritual aspect. We mustn’t let the devil get into our thoughts & we must guard our hearts & mind, staying focused on what God says; even ignoring our own thought processes when we go astray.

Guard your thoughts & heart; don’t allow yourself to give up the battle with your thoughts being in the wrong direction.

Daily Scriptures 6/29/16

Scripture: Romans 15:2 We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. (NLT)

Nugget: I am where I am today because there were people who prayed for me when I didn’t know how to or even knew that I should be praying for myself. These people interceded on my behalf & were crucial in my walk with God & my Christian journey.

As this was done for me, I make sure I take the time to do this for others. We never know how our prayers are impacting them & touching their lives. Remember, someone’s prayers has touched our lives, so there’s no way that God isn’t working through the prayers we’re sending up for others.

Continue to build others up in the Lord---prayer impacts others & changes things.

Daily Scriptures 6/28/16

Scriptures: Psalm 33:6&9 6The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. 9For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. (NLT)

Nugget: When God speaks, things happen! When he created this world, He called into action the heavens, the sky, stars, the sun & moon, animals, people, & everything else. He left no stone unturned. He even went back & realized that man shouldn’t have been alone & created woman!

If God spoke things into existence “back then”, He can surely do the same thing for us in our lives today. There are just some things that will not happen without God creating them for us. He may be creating that job opportunity just for you; He may be preparing that spouse for you. His hand is even in putting that home on the market that’s just right for you & your family.

If God made the whole world without missing anything, He can handle what He’s preparing for our lives, especially for us. For when He speaks, it all begins.

Quote: “Whenever you do not understand what’s happening in your life, just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and say, “God I know this is your plan, just help me through it.”” –

Daily Scriptures 6/27/16

Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. (NLT)

Nugget: We have these plans for our lives as we journey into our dreams & goals. A lot of times, things do come to pass & other times they do not. The thing about our plans is that, at times, they don’t line up with God’s plans for us. We may want to go right, but God wants us to go left. We may want this job, but God closes the door. We may see ourselves in a relationship, but God guides us elsewhere, to something we never imagined. The list can go on & on.

There’s nothing wrong with us having the plans & the drive to make them happen; we do know that faith without works is dead. However, we must ask God for guidance & discernment along the way. He’s there speaking to us, even when we don’t think He is or when we choose to go our own way.

We must pay attention to God’s hands in our plans & lives. He does know what’s best---let Him guide the steps for us to get there.

Daily Scriptures 6/24/16

Scriptures: Psalm 107:4-7 4Some people had wandered in the desert lands. They found no city in which to live. 5They were hungry and thirsty, and they were discouraged. 6In their misery they cried out to the LORD, and he saved them from their troubles. 7He led them on a straight road to a city where they could live. (NCV)

Nugget: Even when we go astray, God accepts us back with love. We cannot go too far where His love & forgiveness cannot reach us. Those in these scriptures had wandered into desert lands, were discouraged, called out to God in their misery, & God still saved them. Not only did He save them, He led them to the right place in order to flourish.

God is the same way with us; even if we’ve lost our way, God remains with us. By turning to & seeking Him with our hearts, allows Him to guide us unto the paths that He intends.

Daily Scriptures 6/23/16

Scripture: Psalm 105:41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. (NKJV)

Nugget: Only God can speak to a rock & have water come out. Not only that, the water flowed so much that it was like a river. When we read what God did “back in the day”, we only get a glimpse of the miraculous things that He’s done. So if He did these things back then, why wouldn’t He be able to handle & grant the things we pray for now, according to His will?

I heard the other day, instead of us complaining about our problems, we should be talking about God & our blessings. In doing this, we can see the everyday miracles that He gives us without us even asking. So imagine what He can & will do if we just believe—letting Him do His work. This is someone who caused water to come out of a rock! Surely, He can handle everything else.

Quote: “I believe if you put your trust in God and let all things go through Him, you will be amazed at all the miracles He can perform.” –

Daily Scriptures 6/22/16

Scriptures: I Samuel 18:7-9 7So the women sang as they danced, and said: Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” 8Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” 9So Saul eyed David from that day forward. (NKJV)

Nugget: In the moment where David was receiving praises for his accomplishments, King Saul became jealous of him. Before this, King Saul had moved David into his home & David was a trusted servant; he was even a close friend of Saul’s son, Jonathan.

But something changed in Saul’s heart when David continued to walk in his purpose & received the attention that Saul himself wanted. Isn’t this how things happen sometimes? People who were in your corner when things were on the same “playing field” were okay with you, but when God starts to elevate you, there’s a shift in the friendship/relationship/etc. where jealously can appear. Little do they know that God’s hand is in your life & they are letting the spirit of jealousy or enviousness take over.

Some people who’ve walked with you as part of your journey aren’t meant to be with you the entire journey. Basically, everyone can’t go with you to the next level God is preparing you for. If you see “Sauls” in your circle, examine these relationships & see what God tells you about moving forward without them. What He has next is more than you can imagine.

Quote: “Jealously is the worst trait in any person.” –Adam DeVine

Daily Scriptures 6/21/16

Scripture: Psalm 68:6 God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. (NLT)

Nugget: Someone mentioned this scripture to me the other day & I had to look it up. It’s always amazing how God covers everything & it’s in His word! “God places the lonely in families”; to me, this means that He has a way of bringing people into our lives who are like family to us. Not only are they “like family”, they become family.

There are many who have strained relationships, if not no relationships, with their biological families, but God doesn’t leave these individuals in want or need---He sees to it that they have a friend who becomes that brother or sister, that mature adult who becomes that missing mother or father, & even others who become role models.

God always has a way of making up for what’s lost or missing in our lives. We just have to pay attention! Thanking God for my “family” members & these families that He’s blessed me with.

Being in Midian

Have you ever wondered why you were in a particular situation or facing something that’s challenging you? At these times, you’re praying for the situation to change; any change to occur that will make things better. Believe me, I understand & have been there many times myself. As challenging as these times may be, God has them occur in our lives for a purpose. Maybe, just maybe, we’re exactly where God wants us to be at these times in our lives.

My mind wandered to Moses, after he killed the Egyptian, Moses fled to Midian in fear of his life. Moses thought he would be killed next. But God led Moses to Midian for a purpose. Moses had to go there to grow, learn, & become who God called him to be & then return to Egypt to lead his people to freedom.

So what if the situations & circumstances you’re facing now are your Midian---your preparation for things to come? Without facing them & without being in “your Midian” you wouldn’t get to the next thing God has for you; the growth & development wouldn’t occur. Also, the relationship with God & faith wouldn’t grow.

There are times when we want to pray these things away, but without them, we wouldn’t become who God is calling us to be. We would remain the same; likely with our faith remaining stagnant too. I’m thinking instead of praying the challenges away, to ask God to show us what we’re to learn in the meantime. There’s something in the midst of it for us.

If you’re journeying through your Midian, allow God to show you what you’re supposed to learn in this place, seek His wisdom & guidance, & He will bring you out of it in His time.

Don’t underestimate your Midian.

Until next time.

The Other Side

Within the past year or so, my life’s journey has led me over walls & mountains to face change. It’s been as if God has orchestrated my journey to take various things head-on; these range from forgiveness to getting outside-of-the-box to doing things on my Bucket List that I’ve been putting off for years.

After “accomplishing” these things (believe me, most of them by God’s grace only---if it were up to me, I’d probably never have done them), I began to wonder what kept me from doing them in the first place. Once they are done, it has been as if a weight has been lifted from me, both physically & emotionally. So, what took me so long to “just do it”, as the old saying goes?

I’ve come to further realization that the root of many of our inactions is one simple word: FEAR. Yes, it’s a “simple” word, but the impact it has is tremendous. Fear keeps us stuck, it keeps some people in their homes afraid to have interaction with others, it even keeps some people from driving, & so much more. So if God tells us not to fear & we’re to trust Him, why do we fear anyways? Most of it is rooted in the unknown, but for me, I’ve realized that it’s attached to wanting to be in control. In wanting to be in control, this showed me that I didn’t fully let go & trust God.

So my journey has led me here…..with a stronger faith in what God can do & has done. There’s nothing He can’t do & won’t do if it’s according to His will for us. God doesn’t withhold the good from His people, but it may take time for Him to develop the good for us & in us. Just think, why would He give us something we aren’t ready for or prepare us for something that isn’t developed for us just yet? In a way, it’s like trying to go from the tricycle to the adult bike without preparation & training. Could you imagine a 3-year old on an adult bike, rather than a tricycle? Preparation & growth had to occur first.

I’m definitely still in the process of my growth journey, but can share this with you: Don’t ignore the uncomfortable places & challenges you may have to face to get to where God wants you to be. He will give you what it takes to make it through to the other side. Whether it be the right people, Bible verse, or encouraging word, there’s a purpose for it all. He’s working it out for our good!

Until next time.

Being Still In God....

God will sometimes put us in situations where all we can do is be still. If anyone knows me, “being still” are not words used to describe me at all! LOL, many have told me over the years that I have no idea what this means, but believe me I’m learning.

In God’s stillness, I’m learning that He’s continuing to work. He works things out in our favor, even when we feel that “nothing is happening”. I’m beginning to think that He does most of His work this way. And with us doing our part about being still in Him, reading His word, & allowing Him to guide us, we are in many aspects “staying out of His way.” So why not let Him do His great work in us & around us?

If there is something or things that you haven’t fully given over to Him, maybe part of this process is being still in Him & listening for Him to tell you want to do. Part of this is not always for you to be “doing something”, but doing the one & only thing that you can---giving it to God.
Stillness can be a blessing in disguise!

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 3/25/16

Scriptures: Psalm 139:4-6 4You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. 5You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! (NLT)

Nugget: God knows us better than anyone---He created us & knew His plans for us before we were in our mothers’ wombs. That’s how detailed our God is; He left no stone unturned when He planned our lives, challenges, journeys, & more.

Not only did God plan all of this, He protects us & blesses us along the way. He’s there with us; going before us & following us. Again, this is how detailed our God is! We may not understand everything He’s doing in our lives or why, but there are things that only God himself understands for our life journeys.

As a dear friend reminds me, “God’s got you!” We cannot be in better hands than His.

Quote: “Know that even in the midst of your worst circumstances, you can be still and calm and at peace….because God’s got you.” –

Daily Scriptures 3/23/16

Scripture: Ephesians 3:13 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. (NLT)

Nugget: In listening to Priscilla Shirer speak in a video recently, she mentioned how we give our peace away. We stress, we doubt, we have anxiety, & these are the opportunities the devil waits for to attack us. There was so much truth in the words she spoke.

So why is it that we hand over the peace that Jesus died to give us in God? Sometimes, it could be out of habit, other times, it can be out of wanting to be in control, but in the end, we know that God has the final say.

Because of Jesus & the faith that we have in Him, we have direct access to God. We can go directly to God in prayer & be in His presence. A lot of times, we do this AFTER we do everything else. So why not put our faith into action & start with the source?

Daily Scriptures 3/21/16

Scripture: Romans 7:21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. (ESV)

Nugget: Have you ever found that when you want to “do the right thing” that there’s usually some roadblock that appears? That day you come into work, promising to get along with the challenging co-worker who insists on being difficult that day; the day you promise to start back on your workout routine, it’s just a day you’re a little “too tired”. Or even the day you promised to start going to church & reading your Bible, you’re somehow sleepy.

This is definitely how it goes sometimes! Such a reminder for us to stay prayed up for the difficulties & evil that can be around the corner. Whatever your “do right” may be, the devil doesn’t like that you’ve made the choice to walk rightly in God & what He’s called you to do.
It’s imperative that we stay prayed up & close to God at every turn; our strength comes from Him, which hinders the acts of the devil. Don’t stop doing the right thing & good that God has called you to do.

Daily Scriptures 3/18/16

Scripture: Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed. (ESV)

Nugget: Giving back is one of the best things that we can do. There’s something in helping others that should touch our hearts & spirit. In reality, most of us live in excess (I’m not saying everyone does!), but usually there’s that something we can give to help another individual in need (whether it be time, money, clothing, assistance going to the store, etc.). Also, at times, we don’t realize how blessed we are until we see the plight of others.

In what ways has God put it on your heart to help someone? Have you taken the steps to do so?

Daily Scriptures 3/17/16

Scriptures: Psalm 81:10-11 11“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. (ESV)

Nugget: One thing is for sure, God gives us free will! He will step back & let us do our own thing, especially when we choose to ignore His direction. I can attest to this! God will close a door, I’d still want to walk through it. God will remove someone out of my life, it’s easy to want to hold on. The list goes on! But God allowed me to walk in my decisions---mostly, there were a few lessons for me to learn along the way—some very hard ones at that. Oh, but if I’d listened to God’s guidance, it would’ve saved a lot of time.

In what areas can you see God guiding you in one direction, but you want to go your own way? He will step out of the way & allow you to act in free will, but He’s also there giving you His input. The decision is yours, but God is always there to pick up the pieces with open arms.

Daily Scriptures 3/16/16

Scripture: Psalm 81:10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. (ESV)

Nugget: When we’re going through various challenges & struggles, we have to remind ourselves of what God has already brought us through. In looking back over our lives, God has kept us from many things, carried us through much more, & continues to do so. So why can’t He handle those things we’re facing now? These things may seem big to us, but they aren’t big to our Lord.

God brought the people out of Egypt & carried them on to the blessings that He had for them. There’s no struggle, challenge, or void that God can’t fill.

God hasn’t given up & never will. We mustn’t either.

Daily Scriptures 3/15/16

Scripture: Ephesians 4:24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. (NLT)

Nugget: In walking with God & for Him, there should be a change in us. We shouldn’t be the same as we were before we knew God. Of course there are things He’s still working on within us, but daily, there should be a shift in us—our thoughts, actions, deeds, etc. There should be that something “different” that happens on the inside, which is reflected outward.

Put on your “something new” that comes from your relationship with God. Praise Him for the things that He’s changed within you & pray on the things He’s continuing to work on.

Daily Scriptures 3/7/16

Scripture: Ephesians 4:23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. (NLT)

Nugget: Change, for some, can be seen as a bad thing, but for others, it can be seen as good. There shouldn’t be a day that goes by where we shouldn’t be better in some area or way than we were the day before. Much of this is attached to our attitudes & thoughts.

Why go a day without growth?  Is your mind being renewed daily? Have you turned the things over to God that you want to change, but haven’t been able to? Are your thoughts & attitude in check? These are the things to ask if you’re feeling stagnant & stuck.

There’s nothing God can’t do, but it begins within us, admitting change is needed, opening our hearts to God, & allowing Him to renew us----daily.

Quotes: “You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” – John C. Maxwell

Daily Scriptures 3/4/16

Scripture: II Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. (NKJV)

Nugget: There are many things & people around us that aren’t as they appear to be. Most times, we’re unable to recognize them because we see them through emotions, feelings, intuitions, past experiences, etc. But even Satan transformed himself into an angel of light! He was deceiving & cunning (think about his words to Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden & what this led them to do!).

There’s an old saying to “be aware of wolves in sheep’s clothing.” This awareness to can take us so far, but we must also add God & His word to it---these can reveal so much more.

Be attentive to what’s around you, who’s around you, & what disguises exist. Through God & His word, we’ll be able to see more clearly.

Daily Scriptures 3/3/16

Scriptures: Mark 10:50-52 50And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. 51And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. 52And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to these, blind Bartimaeus was sitting by the highway begging. When he heard that Jesus was going by, Bartimaeus began calling out to Jesus, in order to be healed. He was making so much noise that many were telling him to be quiet. This didn’t stop Bartimaeus. He got Jesus’ attention.

What stood out for me about Bartimaeus is that he didn’t care what people were telling him, he kept calling out, he cast away his garments, & he came to Jesus. Then Jesus questioned him about what he wanted & Bartimaeus didn’t hesitate to say “Lord, that I might receive my sight”. Jesus didn’t waste any time & immediately healed Bartimaeus.

This is how we must be, having that unwavering faith & be so zeroed in on Jesus that nothing can take or shake our attention. How often do we get side tracked by others, our own thoughts (that are in the wrong direction), or even our circumstances?

Even Bartimaeus “saw” Jesus before he received physical sight. What’s hindering us from seeing Jesus too?

Daily Scriptures 3/2/16

Scripture: Luke 4:22 Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. “How can this be?” they asked. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” (NLT)

Nugget: When Jesus was speaking to this crowd, He amazed them. Some people were shocked at the words that Jesus spoke; even questioning if Jesus was indeed Joseph’s son, who they’d seen before. They couldn’t believe their eyes & ears.

Many of us have had similar experiences….the experiences of if we are who we say that we are to if we are who God has changed us to become. Most times, people will remind us of how & who we used to be. BUT GOD has done a work in us so that we are transformed into who we are in Him---going in the direction He’s set for us, shocking others along the way.

Don’t allow your past or the opinions of others to keep you from continuous growth into who God’s created you to be. Let them be astonished & shocked as you walk & change in God---the only thing they should have left to talk about will be God’s goodness.

Daily Scriptures 3/1/16

Scripture: Colossians 2:4 I say this so that no one can fool you by arguments that seem good, but are false. (NCV)

Nugget: We have to know God’s word & Jesus for ourselves. These are imperative to our relationship with God. They also guard us against false words or arguments that others can bring our way or speak to us.

It’s easy for us to get caught up in the wrong things, even thoughts & ideas that appear to be good, but are far from it. No one can fool us if we’re guarded in God & His word. Strength comes from Him, along with the knowledge that He provides.

The List

We all have it---The List. The List of things we really “want to do”. You know, The List that keeps growing or the one that has stayed the same for years---it addresses the things we haven’t “gotten to yet.” We want to find a better job, accomplish certain goals, talk to the friend we haven’t spoken to in a while, see the friend we haven’t seen in a while, visit family, go on vacation, & The List can go on & on!

As the 1st month of 2016 quickly passes by, have we taken the chance to examine the things that we’ve carried over from 2015 into 2016? I’m not referring to the Resolutions List for the New Year, but the items that never tend to go away?

I began to think of why The List continues to be with many of us; definitely myself included. What are the things that keep us from tackling those things that we carry over & leave on The List? Some realities of this include, many are afraid of success, some are fearful of everything, some are comfortable “exactly where they are”, there are hectic schedules we can’t get past, & so forth.

But the thing is, if these are the things that are keeping us from what we want to accomplish, how hard is it to really face them? What is the attachment that we have to keep The List going & putting off for another day what can be done now or sooner? A lot of the revelations that we need to realize will come through prayer & deep soul searching. We can’t wait forever to do these things & also, if we’re waiting & not doing, something to consider is if these are things we really want…..tough but true, but most times, we go for the things we really want to do—no matter the circumstances or challenges.

Take time to examine The List you have in your life. Take time to do the soul searching & praying to see if these are things you really want & what it is that’s keeping you from beginning & completing The List. God will reveal to you what & how to begin.

Don’t let time continue to fly by with The List either growing, not changing, & no movement occurring.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 1/7/16

Scripture: Philippians 2:2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. (NLT)

Nugget: Having a clear mind & a clear heart are difficult to accomplish at times. Just achieving the balance that results in this is an ongoing process. However, along the way, the process can assist us in being on one accord with those around us---making us “check our attitude”, resulting in things we could only imagine.

This verse mentions to agree, love, & work together with one mind & purpose. But this begins with us, our attitudes, thoughts, & actions. We don’t exist on the planet alone, but can control ourselves & how we react to things—being our piece of the puzzle to contribute to being better & to doing better.

Daily Scriptures 1/6/16

Scripture: Proverbs 15:14 A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash. (NLT)

Nugget: Something I continue to realize is that I learn something new each day. Every day is an opportunity to grow from where we were the day before. We just have to be aware & open regarding the opportunities around us.

This is why it’s so important for us to be careful of who we surround ourselves with, what we take in, & who we allow speak into our lives. The wrong things & the wrong people can have us feeding on the wrong things—bringing feelings & actions we didn’t intend on having or taking.

Continuous wisdom reflects growth; don’t become stagnant.

Daily Scriptures 1/5/16

Scripture: Genesis 7:5 And Noah did according to all that the LORD commanded him. (NKJV)

Nugget: God gave Noah specific instructions when Noah was told to build the ark. Noah did what God told him to do; regardless of what people, family, or friends said. Noah had to stay focused on God & the task at hand.

Many times God has given & told us to do something, but we’ve chosen to do what we wanted. Or at times, listen to people rather than to God. We modify God’s direction in order for it to fit our own agendas. However, with Noah as an example, we can see his results in following God’s directions specifically.

In following & listening to God, we cannot go wrong. He will always lead us to where we need to be---according to His will.

Daily Scriptures 1/4/16

Scriptures: Mark 2:3-5 3Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. 5When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” (NKJV)

Nugget: In the scriptures prior to these, it’s mentioned that Jesus was preaching & word was getting out that Jesus was present. This, however, drew a large crowd that made it difficult for the 4 men to get through with the paralytic who needed healing. These 4 men took another route & broke through the roof to get their friend into the house where Jesus was preaching. Because of their faith & persistence, Jesus healed the man.

These actions made me think of the friends & family who’ve carried me when I couldn’t carry myself. A lot of times, it’s the people around us that both push & carry us through life’s most difficult challenges & circumstances. Where would we be without their faith, encouragement, & persistence? Looking back, there are definitely things that could’ve played out differently.

Sometimes our blessings can be found in those around us & their ability not to give up on us.

Happy 2016 & Anchor Verses

Wow, where did 2015 go? It was a blur of a year! It definitely was a year that presented challenges, loss, & blessings to me. As with many of us, I could’ve done without the loss, but am realizing that God makes everything happen for a reason. This by no way belittles or takes away the pain, struggle, etc. I felt, but I am growing through it---most times one day at a time.

A few years ago, I began to select an anchor verse to reflect on throughout the year. This would be the verse that I would go back to when things were getting away from me or challenges would come up; also one that would encourage me for the year. Last year I selected two. For 2016, 2 verses have also resonated in my heart & mind. These are:

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. –Jeremiah 29:11

A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. –Proverbs 18:16

It’s time for me to start refocusing on God & His plans for me. It’s truly time for me to grow in my purpose & the gifts He has placed in me. So many times, it’s easy to get sidetracked or brought down by things & people, but these shouldn’t be the things that any of us allow to keep us from the goodness & blessings that God has for us.

Someone told me a few weeks ago, “The thing that will make 2016 different is YOU. It will be different because you’re different.” I agree completely.

How can your 2016 be different? How are you different?

May 2016 be YOUR year to grow in God, to be a better you, & receive your heart’s desires.

Until next time.
