Things 2017 Has Taught Me

A friend posed the question, "What has 2017 taught you?"  It's one of the questions where I took some time to reflect & decided upon the top 3 lessons (in no particular order):

  • That I Am Stronger Than I Know: 2017 brought upon many personal challenges that I had to realize, face, & walk through.  It's one thing to think about something, but it's another to acknowledge it, deal with it, & walk the journey to what it entails to grow from it.  These all contain different growing pains, even crying times, & sleeplessness.  However, once I began to pray, release things & people over to God (including myself), the path became lighter & a little easier.  I still have 'my days', but these are becoming less & less.  If there is something you're facing or afraid to face, seek God, pray, & see what He's guiding you to do.  It may not be easy, but the end results are worth it.
  • That God Loves Me Unconditionally: Okay, so this may seem like something that I should already know, but I began to walk in this as well.  Most times, it's easier to say something, but a whole different journey begins when it is taken to heart, soul, & mind.  Once these aligned, I got the chance(s) to open my eyes to God's unconditional love & receiving it completely.  Sometimes, it's something that we say, but must feel too!  May your heart, soul, & mind be open to all that God sees in you, has for you, & is doing in your life!
  • Who My True Peeps Are: When the journey was tough, & the road was hard to see, God showed me who would stand by my side no matter what.  One of the 'funniest' things is that some of the ones who I thought would be there until the end were the ones who faded away & the ones who I didn't know would be there, stood by me, prayed, & were (& are) unconditional. I learned that God gives me continuous blessings in people I didn't initially recognize.  Or if I did recognize them, I did a better job of showing my appreciation to them.  Be sure to be open to who God may bring into your life; your answers may come in the packages you least expect; & for those who are there & have hung in there with you, don't forget to let them know that you love & appreciate them.
2017 was a year of growing pains, but I wouldn't be where I am at this moment without it or them!  However, I can say, that I'm looking forward to 2018 & growing throughout it.

Keep your heart & mind open to God's will for you!  I'm praying for you & your journey.

Until next time.

Happy Birthday To Me!!!

Happy Birthday to me!! I am so grateful for the blessing to see another birthday. It’s amazing what the past year has brought me. I feel that it’s been one of my toughest, but best years in the terms of growth that I’ve had. I pray that I am able to apply what I’ve learned & continue to grow in God. He has shown me so much about Him & about myself.

As I reflect today, I’m reminded of God’s plans for my life. When I was born, the doctors told my parents that I wouldn’t live, BUT GOD had other plans-----I’m still here & seeing Him reveal what He has called me to do, while developing me into who He wants me to be. So no matter what someone may say about you, what does God say? What do His words reveal to you? Because if my parents & family went by what the doctors said on my birthday those years ago, I wouldn’t be typing this for you to read.

This year has taught me that things go, people go, I’ve stressed about things & people I can’t change, & so much more. But as I wind down this last quarter of 2017, one of my most important lessons & revelations is to LIVE. Live the life that God has called me to, knowing that He has EVERYTHING under control. I think the act of completely surrendering everything we are & all that we wish to be to God is a tough thing for many of us---but I believe that God has a way of putting us in the mindset & situations to do so, especially when we’re seeking Him with all our mind & heart.

So for this upcoming year, I’m looking for amazing things; the things that only God can do. For these things happen for us to give Him all the honor, credit, & glory---they bring us closer to Him. There’s nothing He won’t do for us according to His will.

Here’s to another amazing Born-Day! I’m grateful for the blessing of it & all that these years have taught me.

God’s plans are amazing! Don’t let anyone (even doctors) speak otherwise over your life.

Until next time.

Letting Go

Years ago, when I left home for college, I was leaving a lot behind. From a crazy home life to family members to friends, college was an open door for me. By no means am I saying the college journey was easy; I would always tell people that, “College is more than about the classes; you learn more about yourself than anything.” The sad thing is, many of us who have gone to college & made it out, didn’t have much support from those back home. What I mean by this is that many of us were the first in our families to go to college, to seek the degrees, & had to ‘figure out’ how to make it in this new world that no one in our families were ever exposed to. There was no way I could go & call my parents to ask them for help in the Calculus class that they never took.

I loved my college years (not that the classes weren’t HARD or that I didn’t cry many tears), but they made me who I am today. In the midst of not having the full support, or understanding of the college journey, of those at home, God gave me awesome people along the way who have helped me through it all & many of whom I am in contact with today. I wouldn’t have made it through those years without them or God. He knew exactly what I needed & what He was doing!

But with being the ones who have ‘gotten out’ of the past situations at home & being the ones who’ve ‘made it’ there are many expectations that we didn’t see coming. For instance, various family members, & maybe even some friends, may think that ‘you’ve got it.’ Fill in the blank for whatever the ‘it’ may be for these people & their expectations. However, most of the time, IT is MONEY. They are looking for you to bail them out of some situation that they have gotten themselves into or that they have always been in for years. Little do they know, or care, that you may have bills of your own, or even college loans that you are paying back because you had to do what you needed to do in order to ‘make it’ through college because there was no help back home.

Somewhere along the lines, the hard work that many of us did in order to make a better lives for ourselves became the saving of everyone else who saw the dreams of doing better for ourselves their rescue. I’m not sure why or when this began to happen, but I do see it as an on-going pattern for many of the people in my circle.

Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, I am one of the people who will give & give until I can’t give anymore, but a line has to be drawn & an awakening occurs when this giving or ‘helping’ is at your expense (whether it begins to impact your health, budget, or own household). When do you know when to take the step back & stop, or even for some, what I call the “Survivor’s Remorse” of getting out not to impact you? Believe me, God will show you. You cannot feel guilty for being ‘the one’ who made it through your tears, late night studying, paying back student loans, & living the life you prayed for & worked for to keep pulling up those who won’t change or are doing the same thing year after year, looking for you to help them. In letting go, we truly have to let God step in & do His will in the lives of the people we love & care about. We also have to get out of His way in order for Him to help us. (I’m praying about this daily!! I’m still a work in process)

A few scriptures on letting go & moving forward:

  • God will give you the peace when you step back and let go: “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” –Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
  • Look forward & stay focused on God & His calling on your life. He’s established everything for you & will continue to do so: 25Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. 26Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. –Proverbs 4:25-26 NKJV
  • Look to God: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” –Colossians 3:2 NKJV
  • God’s plans for you were established long before you were born. There is a reason He chose you for your journey! God’s plans are amazing: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” –Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV

I pray that this helps someone!!

Until next time.

Silent Periods

Sometimes we can’t hear God because we have too many things going on. These things include people who take our focus away from or off of God. God does have a way of changing our focus, especially when we’re seeking Him. However, if we aren’t seeking Him, He does have a way of “tapping us on the shoulder” to get our attention.

I’ve learned that God getting my attention comes with silence. It could appear that “nothing is happening”, but yet God has a way of showing us Himself in the silent areas of our lives. In the silence, God redirects our focus. There’s usually nothing to focus on & what’s around you can’t remove the silence: there’s no TV that can drown it out, no Social Media page that can take precedence, & no phone call that can supersede it. The only solution is God. It’s Him that just wants a moment or two with us to show us what only He can. Maybe He wants to give you an answer to that prayer you think He’s ignoring, but you’ve been clouding His response with clutter.

Yes, God talks to us, but we can miss His voice. His voice can be in a scripture, a still quiet whisper, a sermon, but we miss it, because it’s not coming in the manner we expect. God’s voice will bring confirmation, but don’t think that the confirmation may not include the responses of “not now” or “wait for Me”, because He will say these too!

Know that God is working, my friends. If He has you in a silent period, His silent periods come with PURPOSE. He’s bringing something out of you & developing you. Seek Him in all seasons---including those of silence.

Until next time.

Accepting Change

Myself, along with many of those in my inner circle, are going through the process of changing; whether it be things that we’re seeking to change about ourselves, professions, walk with God, & even relationships, these changes are occurring.

This thought came to me today regarding change: what happens when the changes we’re praying for come about in a different manner than we’re seeking? For example, there are changes that we want to happen, but God may make these changes happen in such a way that is difficult or challenging for us. We usually want something to happen the way we want it to, at the time we want it to, but we know that God doesn’t work this way.

Think of those who want to lose weight; sure it sounds like a great idea, but what about the hard work that comes with it? Many do not want to get up & hit the gym at 5am to get it done, but if there is some magical way for the weight to fall off, this route would occur in high numbers!

God has a way of forcing change to happen, getting us in that uncomfortable place that puts us out of the comfort zones what we’ve created. You may have outgrown your job & now it’s time to apply elsewhere, but when you prayed for the change, it seemed that the answer would come in the next promotion---God is stretching you to try something new. You may have been praying on certain relationships to turn out or work out in a certain way, but the relationship could now be hindering you from the next step God is directing you; it’s time to let go & move on.

Someone once told me that “sometimes we want the blessings without the sacrifice.” Well, sometimes we want the change & growth to occur without the sacrifice, but, at times, it’s part of the process. God’s forced changes could be the only way we can get to where He wants us to be.

Yes, be open to change, but also open to seeing that it may come in a manner you least expect. Be open to God’s will in the forced changes, knowing that He already has the outcome in His hands.

Until next time.

Take Care Of Yourself

One of the things many of us do not do well is taking care of ourselves. We’ll run, volunteer, work, & over-commit ourselves to everything & everyone, but ourselves. Does this sound familiar? Believe me, I know. This got me to thinking about being on an airplane & how they make the announcement regarding in the event of an emergency, put your own mask on before assisting someone else. Wow, how rare this is in other areas of our lives.

Of course there will be times in which we won’t have a choice in helping someone before ourselves (ex: I know many who are caring for elderly relatives). But are more of your times helping someone else before checking on yourself, your health, your home, etc.? Many are so stressed by what’s going on around them & their full plates that the warning bells are being ignored until that doctor’s visit with some news that opens eyes.

Also, take a step back to see if you’re the only one or the main one in movement in these situations and/or relationships. For example, are you the main one going here & there, investing your time & energy? Are you the only one calling, making the effort? Are you bone-tired, or drained, after doing all of these things? If yes, you’re likely on the road of not putting your own mask on first; & very likely the only one investing in these situations or people. Don’t let people take advantage of you & especially do not ignore your own well-being in the process.

On the seventh day, even God rested & said let there be rest: And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. –Genesis 2:2 (NKJV)

In the midst of being there for everyone & everything else, be sure to take care of YOU! If you don’t, no one else will.

Until next time.

Live Fully

Throughout the past year, I’ve read Shonda Rhimes’ “Year of Yes”. The book journeys readers through Shonda’s year of saying ‘yes’ to the things she normally would’ve said ‘no’ to. In many ways, I found it to be a journey of self-discovery for Shonda & what are some of the things that can hold us back from what we really want to do or really fear to do. Soooooo, I decided to make this past year, my “Year of Yes”. Not that my journey was like Shonda’s, but there seems to be a similar thread that prevents us from stepping out of that comfort zone. What is that thread?

Fear. Yep, it’s the thing that can keep us from the yeses in life. I’m not saying that this is the case for everyone, but it appears to be the case for many. Fear of rejection. Fear of not being good enough. Fear of the unknown. Being scared. You name it, the roadblock that keeps us from moving forward is most times attached to fear. There were many things I faced this past year that in previously saying ‘no’, I wouldn’t have taken many steps forward. This includes applying for a promotion at work to dealing with past issues attached to certain relationships. It was very eye-opening to see many things begin to unfold that in my mind I had made to be the biggest obstacles & fears ever. I’m definitely not saying the journey was easy, but on the other side of those fears, were blessings & at times, a bit of calm. These things & journeying into them weren’t as ‘bad’ as I made them out to be. At times, I could say that the individuals in the relationships I had a bit of fear attached to them as well.

This “Year of Yes” brought upon another thought (among others): Do I/we live fully?? Living fully---enjoying the journey without hindering ourselves. Releasing ourselves from the things, people, or past that keep us complacent or even attached to the fear that paralyzes us. I don’t think that I’ve been living fully, but am on the continuous journey to do so. It’s as if the realization started with saying ‘yes’, & even this saying ‘yes’ included “saying ‘yes’ to saying ‘no’” as Shonda states. My Pastor C. Jones has even mentioned, “Saying ‘no’ is not a bad word.” To live fully encompasses many things, but to begin with a single step is what kicks things off! Maybe, you can start by saying ‘yes’ to at least one thing that you fear the most. That first step is difficult, but believe me when you take it, on the other side of it you’re likely to find, “That wasn’t so bad.”

Live fully for yourself. Take the journey to saying ‘yes’ to the next thing God is guiding you too; keep in mind that the next thing may include facing a few past things & people, but it’s going to be okay!

It all has to start somewhere; don’t let fear keep you from living fully. There’s a ‘yes’ around the corner with your name on it.

Until next time.

Daily Scriptures 4/4/17

Scriptures: Proverbs 7:1-3 1My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. 2Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. 3Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. (NKJV)

Nugget: God’s word & wisdom go hand-in-hand. The more we seek God’s word & the clarity it brings, the more they change us & our hearts. We begin to see things & people through God’s eyes. Yes, some things may take time to understand, but as we look to Him, His promises, & guidance through His word, we have to admit there are days when things get a bit easier.

Are God & His word where you seek wisdom to bind within your heart & mind; or are these coming from elsewhere? There’s nothing like living for God & His word. There’s no way for the ‘changing effect’ not to occur—it’s binding.

Quote: “The best way to gain wisdom is by applying God’s word to your life.” –Dr. James Dobson

Daily Scriptures 3/27/17

Scripture: Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. (NIV)

Nugget: We are blessed beyond measure! Even during our toughest days, there is always something & someone to be thankful for. The blessings that God has given us go beyond what we can see & feel. Jesus dying for us was the ultimate gift, but also the most timeless blessing we could’ve received.

I can definitely admit there are days that I struggle with getting out of bed (we’ve all had the Monday ‘blues’), but then I think of all of the blessings that occurred while I slept throughout the night: I slept through the night, in a bed, in a home, & then God even blessed me afterwards! I woke up, clothed in my right mind, & then moved my arms & legs without an issue!

God continues to bless us in every area of our lives. Our blessings reach to heavenly realms! Just watch & see what God can & will do!

Quote: “Thankful every day. Blessed beyond measure.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/24/17

Scripture: Romans 1:6 And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. (NLT)

Nugget: We are God’s children & belong to Him! He gave His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. We definitely know that there are many who wouldn’t do this to demonstrate their unconditional love!

On those days where we feel down & defeated about what’s going on around us, & even the things that are occurring in our own lives, reflect on God’s love & Jesus’ sacrifice for us. With this love on our side, nothing can keep us down & defeated for long!! We are more than conquerors through Him!

Quote: “The world’s love says, “I love you IF”, but God’s love says, “I love you EVEN IF”. -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/23/17

Scriptures: Daniel 6:4-5 4Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy. 5So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.” (NLT)

Nugget: Daniel, along with two other administrators, were chosen by the king to lead the empires, but Daniel showed himself more capable than the other two, & the king wanted to promote him to be over the entire empire (the favor of God was on Daniel!). Daniel’s new appointment didn’t sit well with the other two administrators & they plotted against Daniel, looking to find fault in him, when there wasn’t one; however, they decided to attack Daniel based upon his religion.

There are some people who will not be happy for you when you’re promoted, doing well, & moving forward in the blessings God has given you. Most won’t understand that it’s God’s hand, calling, & favor that elevated you to where you are! But while some aren’t happy for you & are looking for fault, God keeps blessing you! In spite of what the administrators plotted for Daniel, Daniel prevailed through God! God was with him the entire time.

If someone isn’t happy for you & want to find fault, that’s their issue—keep walking in God’s favor. No one can take away what God has blessed you with & no one can remove you from where He’s placed you.

Quote: “Grace carried me here and by grace I will carry on.” –

Daily Scriptures 3/22/17

Scripture: I Corinthians 13:12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. (NLT)

Nugget: There are just some things that we won’t find out until later. We worry, stress, & even have anxiety over things that God has already worked out in our favor. While going through these situations, we will have questions & be puzzled about what’s happening & why, but one day, we’ll see ‘everything with perfect clarity’.

There are things that will take time to happen---God’s time. Where we are now isn’t the end of the road, but the path that we must take to get to the clarity & understanding that will only come with time, living, growth, & God working it out.

One day, we’ll know exactly what we’re supposed to know, at that time. God knows us & His plan will be completed for what He has in store.

Quote: “You are where God wants you to be at this very moment. Every experience is part of His divine plan.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/21/17

Scripture: Isaiah 41:13 For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ (NKJV)

Nugget: There’s nothing like a friend who’ll be there & who has been there with you through thick-and-thin. We all have at least one who’s been there with us no matter what. Not only do we have at least that one person, but we have our God who’s been there with us always. No matter the fear, circumstance, or situation, God’s there holding our hand along the way. He’s not just holding our hand, but walking beside us & will carry us further than we can carry ourselves.

Don’t waste time & energy in fear or worry; God promises to help us & to be there for us.

Daily Scriptures 3/17/17

Scripture: Psalm 5:3 Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. (NLT)

Nugget: Anytime is a good time to talk to the Lord, but there’s something about starting the morning off with prayer & time with God. It sets the tone for the day. I think about the days where I started in a hurry, rushing through my morning routine, even saying a quick prayer before heading out the door. Most times, this results in the rest of my morning (& day) feeling hurried.

Not only does this scripture mention talking to God in the morning, but also giving our requests to Him & waiting with expectation! Who else would get up in the morning hours, listen to us, & then bless us too!? No one, but our God!

Don’t forget to make God a part of your morning.

Quote: “Mornings are better when you talk to God first.” –

Daily Scriptures 3/16/17

Scriptures: Jeremiah 18:4-6 4But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. 5Then the LORD gave me this message: 6“O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand. (NLT)

Nugget: In the verses prior to these, God instructed Jeremiah to go to the potter’s house & that God would speak to Jeremiah again there. Upon arrival, Jeremiah found the potter at work, but the jar the potter made did not turn out as planned; thus, the potter crushed it & started over.

God let Jeremiah know that we’re in His hands & He has the ability to do the same for & with us. After all, we are God’s creations & He had plans for us before we were in our mothers’ wombs. There nothing we can do that will get is so far away from God that He wouldn’t be there for us; even in our ‘mess’, He wants to make us a message for Him. Even when we stray, He always has a way of finding us (God’s GPS system is the best!).

Yes, God broke each mold when each of us were created, but He has the power to recreate each mold! Making designer’s originals every time!

Quote: “The Potter’s hands mend many broken things. Broken things can become blessed things if you let God do the mending.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/15/17

Scriptures: Ezekiel 37:4-7 4Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the LORD! 5This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’” 7So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. (NLT)

Nugget: In the valley of dry bones, there was no life present; everything was literally & physically ‘bone dry’. God asked Ezekiel to speak a prophetic word to the bones to make them alive again. He did as God instructed, & suddenly there was rattling about the land & the bones came together. The broken pieces attached themselves, there was movement, & action in what was once a dry place.

This is how it can be with us! We may think a situation is dead, a relationship is long over, that we are at a standstill in life, but God may be asking us to speak a prophetic word to these dry situations & relationships. What we speak into existence out of faith could be what brings these things to life again---God is looking to breathe life into us & to make us live again in these areas of our lives.

Are you speaking life & faith into the ‘dry bones’ of your life or are you sitting on them, being discouraged? Your outlook could determine your outcome!

Quote: “Hope is putting faith to work when doubting would be easier.” – Thomas S. Monson

Daily Scriptures 3/14/17

Scriptures: Psalm 140:1-2 1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, 2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. (NLT)

Nugget: God is on the job, every moment of every day. We face dangers seen & unseen, but one thing is for sure: God & His angels are on guard, protecting us along the way.

This scripture asks God to rescue & protect from those who are evil & who are continuously plotting---we face these types of people at work, on the highways, shopping, etc. Our prayers are answered daily; we can’t forget that God is always our protector & has His hands on us.

Quote: “If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer – His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable.” –John Newton

Daily Scriptures 3/13/17

Scripture: Exodus 14:8 The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. (NIV)

Nugget: Most of us have heard the story of Moses asking the king to ‘let my people go.” Moses was doing what God told him to do in leading the Israelites to the Promised Land. However, we can overlook that God hand His hand on Pharaoh too; God had hardened Pharaoh’s heart towards Moses & the Israelites. This definitely brings upon questions: Why would God not just free Moses & his people? Why have them go through all of this? God could have easily changed the situation & eliminated all that Moses & the Israelites experienced, but He didn’t.

We can ask God the same questions about our own experiences, challenges, etc. But without most of these occurring, we wouldn’t grow, get into the word, or even know God as much. There are some things that God is allowing to happen for us because without these ‘growing pains’, we have to admit, we wouldn’t be as far along in our faith walk or in our relationship with Him.

Daily Scriptures 3/10/17

Scripture: Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (NIV)

Nugget: There are some things that we’re praying for (& have been praying for) that will not happen overnight. Honestly, these things may not happen in months & may take years to occur, but we have to stand firm in our faith, knowing that God is working it all out for our good.

We may need to pray a little harder, fast a little longer, believe like we’ve never believed before---while all of this is going on, God has His own way of turning our hearts towards Him, preparing us for what He sees for us, & even preparing the things & people who we’ve prayed for.

Continue to call those things that be not as though they were; believe that you have what you’re seeking---in God’s will & timing, He makes all things happen according to His plan.

Quote: “God is making things happen for you. Even when you don’t see it, even when you can’t feel it, even if it’s not evident. God is working on your prayers.” –ImForeverFaithful.tumblr

Daily Scriptures 3/9/17

Scripture: I Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (NIV)

Nugget: God loved us so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. God’s unconditional love was shown not only in His giving up of Jesus, but also in Jesus knowing His purpose & not backing down from what He was put here to do. We can say that not many, if any, would give up their child to die for another or if we were in Jesus’ shoes would’ve went through with it.

This is one of the reasons why love is one of the greatest experiences one could have. We have an example of what unconditional love is. In loving others, we have the opportunity to be an example of the love that God shows to us. Love doesn’t have to have conditions attached; it’s accepting people unconditionally as they are. Now don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean to be taken advantage of or to put ourselves in anything unhealthy, but to love others as God loved us---this could mean loving some people from a distance!

Quote: “God’s love is unconditional, unlimited, and complete.” -Unknown

Daily Scriptures 3/8/17

Scripture: Romans 13:11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. (NIV)

Nugget: Most times, we think that we have until “later” to give our lives to God & accept Jesus as our Savior. There’s even that feeling that we have to be perfect or doing things completely right in order to walk with Him (this is definitely what I thought for a long time). However, God accepts us just as we are. He made us & knows where we need improvement & also knows His plans for us; the plans that cannot happen without Him in our lives.

There’s so much going on in today’s time that we can sense that our ‘salvation is nearer now’ than ever before. The need to pray, walk with God, & seek Him are necessities to make it through the days & experiences that come upon us.

We don’t have to be perfect to accept God & His calling for us. Instead of thinking the time is later, consider that the time is now.

Quote: “When I put my faith in Jesus Christ as my savior, and I asked Him to forgive and to come into my life, and He does - from that moment forward I have established a personal relationship with God that I have to develop, you know, through Bible reading and prayer, and living my life for Him.” –Anne Graham Lotz

Daily Scriptures 3/7/17

Scripture: Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. (NKJV)

Nugget: This scripture mentions some very important truths: to owe no one anything & to love. However, there are many who owe others something (whether it be money, time, etc.) & expect love in return, but this isn’t how it’s meant to be.

Things shouldn’t be borrowed that can’t be returned or paid back, & we shouldn’t expect love in return for the things that we do; especially concerning the things that God has put on our hearts or has told us to do. The importance of any action should be a reflection of God & His love---this includes the things, money, jobs, etc. that He’s blessed us with.

Is the unconditional love of God & for others the motivation for your actions (including loving, borrowing without repaying a debt, etc.)? If not, a self-check should occur to align with Him. Being a reflection of God & His love shouldn’t include actions that are unlike Him or have conditions attached.

Quote: “Instead I ought to be grateful to Him who never owed me anything for having been so generous to me, rather than think that He deprived me of those things or has taken away from me whatever He did not give me.” -RenĂ© Descartes

Daily Scriptures 3/6/17

Scripture: II Corinthians 13:8 For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth. (NLT)

Nugget: Many of us have heard the saying, “The truth will speak for itself.” Basically, the truth will come through loud & clear; also, it has a way of coming out when some want it hidden. Although it can be difficult for many, it’s usually best to walk in the truth from the beginning rather than to hide behind a lie/etc.

The ‘truth’ in this scripture can relate to so many things in our lives: the truth of God & His word, the truth about things that are hard for us to face, the truth about our situations & circumstances, & the list can go on and on. But when we walk in the truth, face it with God on our side, things have a way of coming together in our favor---even with the road being tough at times, don’t underestimate the power of the truth & how you can grow from it.

Quote: “The best evidence of our having the truth is our walking in the truth.” –Matthew Henry

For My Singletons, Pt. 23

A friend shared this message with me! Such a reminder about how God works everything out in HIS timing. Being in a season of His preparation is part of the journey. Don't underestimate each season; there's a purpose behind them.

By St. Anthony of Padua

Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone,
To have a deep soul relationship with another,
To be loved thoroughly and exclusively.

But to a Christian, God says, "No, not until you are satisfied,
Fulfilled and content with being loved by Me alone,
With giving yourself totally and unreservedly to Me.
With having an intensely personal and unique relationship with Me alone.

Discovering that only in Me is your satisfaction to be found,
Will you be capable of the perfect human relationship,
That I have planned for you.
You will never be united to another Until you are united with Me.
Exclusive of anyone or anything else.
Exclusive of any other desires or longings.
I want you to stop planning, to stop wishing, and allow Me to give you
The most thrilling plan existing . . . one you cannot imagine.
I want you to have the best. Please allow Me to bring it to you.

You just keep watching Me, expecting the greatest things.
Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I am.
Keep listening and learning the things that I tell you.
Just wait, that's all. Don't be anxious, don't worry
Don't look around at things others have gotten
Or that I have given them
Don't look around at the things you think you want, Just keep looking off and away up to Me,
Or you'll miss what I want to show you.
And then, when you're ready, I'll surprise you with a love
Far more wonderful than you could dream of.

You see, until you are ready, and until the one I have for you is ready,
I am working even at this moment
To have both of you ready at the same time.
Until you are both satisfied exclusively with Me
And the life I prepared for you,
You won't be able to experience the love that exemplified your relationship with Me.
And this is perfect love.

And dear one, I want you to have this most wonderful love, I want you to see in the flesh a picture of your relationship with Me. And to enjoy materially and concretely the everlasting union of beauty, perfection and love that I offer you with Myself. Know that I love you utterly. I AM God. Believe it and be satisfied"

Until next time.

The Moments

There are so many moments in our lives where we look for the next thing to happen. That promotion, the vacation, the next birthday, the holiday, etc. You name it, we expect it. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the gift of expectation in what we’re praying for & seeking from God, while enjoying what He has blessed us with---but what happens in the moments where we realize that we’re where God wants us to be---for now, as part of our life’s journeys. Most times, the next “thing” won’t happen until His timing comes & with His timing comes change as well.

You could be in your current position at work to be a blessing to someone else. You could be the voice of God that they hear daily; they can even see God in you when you walk, talk, & act according to how He wants you to be. Handling the tough situations that arise with what may appear to be “ease” to others, but it’s really God in you, stepping in to intercede on your behalf. But what happens if you handle the job with the looking forward to the next thing, without handling your current season the way that He wants you to? There could be that missed opportunity to reach someone for God.

Sometimes we underestimate the gifts of timing & change by missing the now & living in the tomorrow. Think of the things that you prayed for that didn’t come until His timing. If God gave it to you before you & “it” were prepared, the end result could’ve been something you definitely didn’t need or want---at that time. But in the waiting came preparation, in the waiting came change in you for growth & faith, in the waiting God created open doors & blessings that could only come from Him.

So what happens in those moments where we realize that we’re where God wants us to be? We live in the now---His now---without hesitation, but with the expectation that His timing is always on time & that the changes He’s putting us through are part of His plan for us. The moments aren’t meant to be rushed through at a high speed, but truly LIVED with appreciation for what they are & for who they are developing us to be.

Until next time.

Happy 2017!!!

Happy New Year!!! 2017 is upon us. It’s such a blessing to see another day, yet alone the start of a brand new year! I’m excited about the journey & blessings on the way for 2017. God already has His plans mapped out for us; we just have to step into them!

I look back on 2016 & realize that it wasn’t a “bad” year, but a year of transition & growth for me. It’s a year that brought about change for me & my life’s journey. A part of me sees it as the stepping stone of what’s to come, but at the same time, another part of me sees it as the year that began to show me myself. It’s been some journey; however, both challenging & rewarding on the personal level. I know that 2016 was just the beginning of what God will continue in 2017!!

The foundations of 2016 have taught me that God is developing my faith & trust in Him, my ongoing personal growth, the ability to see myself & things through His eyes, & a stronger relationship with Him. I’ve found that these all come together due to a relationship with Him, based upon faith & trust. I’m not referring to the “drive-thru” relationship where we can quickly say a prayer & roll on through the day, but the relationship where depth is there—time & investment are made to get to know Him, talk with Him, listen to Him, & know that He’s our source for everything! There are so many blessings in our lives that only He can give & I don’t want to look back leaving any blessing or stone unturned. God wants great things for me & for you!

Every year I choose Anchor Verses to guide me throughout the year; they are verses that I focus on, pray about, & have as reminders to help me along the way. I believe these are God’s way of giving me that “gentle nudge” when my focus & thoughts can drift elsewhere. For 2017, these are the Anchor Verses that God has put on my heart to carry with me, walk in, & to further develop me as an individual, but more importantly, my relationship with Him:
  • “Pray without ceasing” -I Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)
  • “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” –Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
  • “5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” –Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
This year will be a great one & there’s so much in store. Let your light shine as we begin this journey today—let nothing or no one dim this light. God has already stepped out ahead of us, now it’s up to us to follow, grab His hand, & say, “Hello 2017! Here we come!”

Until next time.
